The testis is especially sensitive to pollutants, including radionuclides. Following the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident, several of these radionuclides were emitted and spread in the environment. Subsequently, children presented some disruptions of the endocrine system. To determine whether these disruptions were due to 137 cesium (137Cs) exposure, the effects of chronic contamination with low doses of 137Cs in utero or from birth on testicular steroidogenesis in rats were studied. Contamination was continued for 9 months. No modification was observed in circulating level of hormones (17β-estradiol, testosterone, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone) following in utero or post-natal contamination. Expression of several genes involved in testicular steroidogenesis was affected (cyp19a1, fxr, sf-1), without modification of protein expression or activity. Our results suggest that growing organisms may be affected at the molecular level by 137Cs contamination at this post-accidental dose.  相似文献

Dynamics of 137Cs transfer factors to plants and the effects of protective measures on this radionuclide accumulation in the agricultural production is estimated on the example of the south-western regions of Bryansk District. Three periods in decreasing the 137Cs content in plants during 20 years after the Chernobyl accident are identified. The contribution of radionuclide decay, natural biogeochemical processes and protective measures aimed at reduction of the 137Cs accumulation in agricultural plants during various periods after radioactive fallout is shown. Maximum permissible levels of 137Cs contamination of cultivated lands, where crop products meeting current standards may be obtained, at different scopes of protective measures on radioactive-contaminated territories are forecasted. Periods after radioactive fallout, when crop and forage products meeting radiological standards are obtained, are assessed.  相似文献

The radionuclide content was measured in mushrooms collected in different sites situated in the zone of the radiation influence on the Mining-and-Chemical Combine at Zheleznogorsk and on the control site, near Krasnoyarsk, in 2002-2004. The analytical investigations of fruiting bodies of 12 mushroom species have revealed three gamma-emitting radionuclides: 7Be, 40K (natural) and 137Cs (artificial). It was found that only three species contain 7Be; activity concentration of 40K is not species- and site-dependent, averaging 1600 Bq/kg. All collected samples contain 137Cs, and its accumulation by mushrooms is species-specific. Suillus concentrates more 137Cs activity than other species and can be used as a bioindicator of soil contamination with radiocesium. The average activity concentration of 137Cs in Suillus granulatus collected in the sites subjected only to aerosol discharges of the MCC is more than twice higher than 137Cs content of the mushrooms collected in the control site--"Krasnoyarsk". The maximum activity concentration of 137Cs in Suillus samples collected in the sites that receive 137Cs with the flood water is an order of magnitude higher, amounting to 8624 Bq/kg. The analysis of the radionuclide distribution in a mushroom shows that 40K activity concentration is the same in caps and stems of Suillus, and 137Cs concentration in Suillus caps is 1.7-2.3 times higher than in stems. Binding of radionuclides by mushroom biomass was determined by chemical fractionation; it was found that the highest activities of 137Cs and 40K are in the exchange-adsorption fraction (56 to 71% of the total content of a radionuclide) and in the organic fraction (23 to 37%). Calculations were made for determination of the coefficients of 40K and 137Cs transfer from the soil to the fruiting body of Suillus.  相似文献

The accumulation levels of anthropogenic 90Sr and 134Cs and 137Cs radionuclides in the marsh frog have been studied in the areas of the Beloyarskii water-storage reservoir (an industrial storm-water discharge channel of the nuclear power station) and the Verkhnii Tagil water-storage reservoir (the Tagil River down-stream of the dam). No significant distinction in the radionuclide accumulation (90Sr and 137Cs) depending on the amphibian sex and age is detected. Comparable levels of the accumulation of radionuclides in the marsh frog, when compared to the other representatives of the water ecosystem, are estimated. An assumption of the presence of some unidentified source of radioactive contamination of marsh frogs has been made; cesium-137 may be transferred from it to the Tagil River by the frogs.  相似文献

The single injection of levulinic acid oxime (250 mg/rat) or α-ketoglutaric acid oxime (250 mg/rat) on rats, carrying radioactive cesium, promoted both urinary and fecal excretion of this radionuclide. The administration of levulinic acid oxime (sodium salt) decreased the cesium retention by liver. The administration of the oxime did not have influence on the urinary excretion of sodium and potassium in normal rats. The toxicity of the oxime was low. The LD50 of α-ketoglutaric acid oxime was 3500 mg/kg (mice, intraperitoneally). (The LD50 of levulinic acid oxime has already been indicated as 2040 mg/kg (mice, intravenously).  相似文献

The regularities of 137Cs distribution and accumulation in organs and tissues of sheep on a farm located in the Chernobyl accidental zone were experimentally estimated. The distribution pattern of 137Cs concentration in organs and tissues is found to depend on the duration of the radionuclide uptake with the ration. During the first 24 h the highest 137Cs concentration is reported in the parenchymal organs; starting from day 30 muscular tissue and kidneys rank first, whereas in the other organs and tissues 137Cs concentration is 1.5-2 times lower. By 137Cs content and accumulation rate the study organs are arranged in a declining order as follows: muscles > > skin > liver > kidneys > heart > spleen. The mathematical models were devised describing the dynamics of increasing with time in 137Cs concentration in muscles, liver and skin. The methodology is suggested for the prediction of levels of 137Cs contamination of the muscular tissue of sheep. The time periods were regulated for sheep feeding with 137Cs contaminated fodder that ensure the production of mutton the radionuclide concentration in which meets the sanitary-hygienic standards.  相似文献

Following the Chernobyl accident, the most significant problem for the population of the former Soviet Union for the next 50-70 years will be chronic internal contamination by radionuclides. One of the few experiments carried out in this field reported that neurotransmitter metabolism in the central nervous system of the rat was disturbed after feeding with oats contaminated by 137Cs for 1 month. The present study assessed the effect of chronic contamination by depleted U or 137Cs on the metabolism of two neurotransmitters in cerebral areas of rats. Dopamine and serotonin were chosen because their metabolism has been shown to be disturbed after external irradiation, even at moderate doses. Dopamine, serotonin, and some of their catabolites were measured by high-pressure liquid chromatography coupled with an electrochemical detector in five cerebral structures of rats contaminated over a 1-month period by drinking water (40 mg U.L -1 or 6500 Bq 137Cs.L -1). In the striatum, hippocampus, cerebral cortex, thalamus, and cerebellum, the dopamine, serotonin, and catabolite levels were not significantly different between the control rats and rats contaminated by U or 137Cs. To determine recent sediment movement, we measured the levels of 137Cs (an artificial radionuclide produced during nuclear weapons testing) of 118 southern Lake Michigan samples and 27 in Green Bay. These samples, taken from 286 grab samples of the upper 3 cm of sediment, were collected in 1975 as part of a systematic study of Lake Michigan sediment. 137Cs levels correlated well with concentrations of organic carbon, lead, and other anthropogenic trace metals in the sediment. 137Cs had a higher correlation with silt-sized than with clay-sized sediment (0.55 and 0.46, respectively). Atmospherically derived 137Cs and trace metals are being redistributed by sedimentary processes in Lake Michigan after being incorporated in suspended sediment. We determined a distribution pattern of 137Cs that represents areas of southern Lake Michigan where sediment deposition is occurring.  相似文献

A dynamic model was developed for evaluation of the fish contamination by 137Cs. The dynamics of the accumulation of the radionuclide and the elimination is calculated taking into account the ecological and physiological characteristics of the fish, such as growth and metabolic rates, its position in the food chains of the aquatic ecosystem. The biological elimination of 137Cs from the freshwater fish is proportional to the metabolic rate of the fish. The dimensionless coefficient of the proportionality is equal to epsilonA = 0.3 +/- 0.1. The model was applied for the reconstruction of the long-term dynamics of 137Cs in the food chain "goldfish-pike" from Lake Kozhanovskoe (Bryansk Region, Russia). In 1990-1999 the specific activity of 137Cs in goldfish (generation of 1990) varied in range about 5-20 kBq/kg, whereas the specific activity of 137Cs in pike (generation of 1989) varied in range about 20-40 kBq/kg. The comparison with the data of the observations confirmed that the presented method allows to evaluate adequately the levels and the dynamics of 137Cs accumulation by the freshwater fish.  相似文献

The contamination levels and spatial distribution of 90Sr and 137Cs in the soil cover of the Eastern Ural State Radioactive Reserve and neighboring areas have been studied. Situated in the Chelyabinsk region, the Reserve embraces the frontal part of the Eastern Urals Radioactive Trace. This Trace emerged in 1957 as a result of the nuclear accident at the Production Association "Mayak". In the studied areas, the content of radionuclides in soils decreases exponentially as the distance from the source of contamination increases. 90Sr received by the soil cover as a result of the accident in 1957 has remained the main contaminant of the Reserve central part (97% of the total contamination). Its contribution throughout western neighboring areas reduces up to 67%, which decreases the effect of 90Sr on the environment. Within eastern neighboring areas, soil is mainly contaminated by 137Cs received as a result of the wind disseminated dried sediments from the shores of Lake Karachay (1967) that was used for dumping high-level radioactive waste. Also observed was enrichment of forest litters with this radionuclide due to current atmospheric fallout.  相似文献

A model of 137Cs vertical soil transport by a tree root system is presented. As distinct from other models the radionuclide root uptake is described as a reversible process and depth distribution of roots is given as a function of time. The model was used for prediction of 137Cs release from a surface disposal site located in a territory with conditions similar to that in the Chernobyl NPP exclusion zone. Prediction indicates that during several decades 137Cs transport from the waste layer by the root system of pine can lead to significant contamination of the soil surface due to needles fallout and, probably, ionic leakage from roots.  相似文献

Biodiversity of phytocenose was studied and species-indicators of radioactive contamination were revealed. The analysis of the content of radionuclides 90Sr, 137Cs, 238Pu, 239 + 240Pu and 241Am in water vegetation of flood plain reservoirs has allowed studing features of radionuclide accumulation by various species of macrophytes and revealing bioindicators of radionuclide contamination. Thus species-specificity of radionuclide accumulation can essentially change the contribution of different species to a percentage ratio of the radionuclide content in phytomass of reservoirs in comparison with fund of higher aquatic plants.  相似文献

In response to contamination from the recent Fukushima nuclear accident, we conducted radionuclide analysis on bamboos sampled from six sites within a 25 to 980 km radius of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Maximum activity concentrations of radiocesium (134)Cs and (137)Cs in samples from Fukushima city, 65 km away from the Fukushima Daiichi plant, were in excess of 71 and 79 kBq/kg, dry weight (DW), respectively. In Kashiwa city, 195 km away from the Fukushima Daiichi, the sample concentrations were in excess of 3.4 and 4.3 kBq/kg DW, respectively. In Toyohashi city, 440 km away from the Fukushima Daiichi, the concentrations were below the measurable limits of up to 4.5 Bq/kg DW. In the radiocesium contaminated samples, the radiocesium activity was higher in mature and fallen leaves than in young leaves, branches and culms.  相似文献

For prognosis of accumulation of 137Cs and 90Sr in forages harvested in radionuclide contaminated sod-podzolic soils, it is suggested to use transfer factors (TF9a) (Bq/kg)/(kBq/m2)) established not only by the content of mobile potassium (137Cs, r = -0.53) and the value of exchange acidity (90Sr, r = -0.73), but also by the index of agrochemical soil cultivation I(cd) (137Cs, r = -0.69; 90Sr, r = -0.64). The possibility of obtaining forages conforming to the state standards on the haymaking and pasture areas with high density of radioactive contamination of soils was shown by the example of "Sudkovo" collective farm. The approach is based on achievement of a high degree of cultivation (l(cd) - 0.81-1.0) due to a complex of protective measures, which resulted in a 10-fold decrease in the specific activity of 137Cs and a 4-fold decrease in the activity of 90Sr, compared to the soils with a low degree of cultivation (I(cd) - 0.41-0.60).  相似文献

Certain patterns have been established for 137Cs accumulation dynamics in the female rats and their progeny during 30 days of suckling. Comparison of sediment cores collected in 1999 and 2013 from shallow Lake Harris, Florida, USA showed that the sediment maintained stratigraphic integrity despite multiple hurricanes passing through the area in 2004. Sediments less than 50 years old displayed small losses of organic matter (OM), total phosphorus (TP) and heat-extractable (HE-P) through time that are unrelated to hurricane impacts. Nevertheless, sediment that accumulated between the two core collection dates contained 4-fold more TP than was lost from the sediment over the 14-year period, indicating that sediments in Lake Harris are a net sink for water-column TP. Persistent, elevated 137Cs activity in sediments deposited since the mid-1960s indicates protracted cesium input to the lake from this subtropical watershed. There is also evidence for downward transport of 137Cs in the sediment profile between core collection dates. Prolonged export of 137Cs from the watershed and downward mobility of the radionuclide in the sediment profile diminish the utility of 137Cs as a dating tool in Lake Harris.  相似文献

Cytogenetic monitoring was carried out on a group of children from Gomel (Belarus), one of the areas most severely affected by radioactive contamination following the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, in 1986. We performed the micronucleus test (MN) in binucleated lymphocytes of 42 children (mean age: 11+/-2.34 years), 16 of whom were affected by thyroid gland tumor. Thirty healthy children living in Pisa (mean age: 14.96+/-2.17 years) were enrolled in the study as controls. Thyroid tumor affected children living in Gomel showed a statistically significant increase in the frequency of micronucleated cells as compared with the healthy children from Pisa. Moreover, a significant correlation was found between MN frequency and both the presence of tumor and higher 137Cs contamination. In addition, higher 137Cs contamination was more frequently observed in tumor affected children. These results suggest that the increased MN frequency is attributable more to 137Cs contamination rather than to the presence of the tumor itself.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to obtain new data on the effect of age, route, dose and time of metal and chelating agent administration on the efficiency of chelation therapy. The experiments were performed on 1-2 and 6-week-old rats which received radioisotopes of metals--203Pb, 115 mCd, 203Hg and 141Ce intraperitoneally or orally. Chelating agents calcium ethylenediaminetetraacetate (CaEDTA), calcium and zinc diethylenetriaminepentaacetate (CaDTPA, ZnDTPA), 2,3-dimercapto-propane-sulfonate-1 (DMPS), dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) and sodium N-(4-methoxybenzyl)-D-glucamine dithiocarbamate monohydrate (MeOBDCG) were administered twice by intraperitoneal or oral administration as early (immediately and 24 hr after metals) or delayed treatment (24 and 48 or 48 and 72 hr after metals). The animals were killed six days after metal administration and the retention was determined in the whole body, carcass and gut. After intraperitoneal administration of metals and chelating agents chelation therapy had much lower efficacy in younger than older animals. After ingestion of metals oral chelation therapy was more effective in younger than older animals. In suckling rats the treatment effectively reduced metal retention and this was mostly due to decrease in gut retention. This treatment in sucklings was also very effective in condition of late administration. In older rats early oral DMPS treatment after 203Hg ingestion is contraindicated since it increases significantly mercury retention while DMSA and ZnDTPA treatments reduced mercury retention. Delayed oral treatment with ZnDTPA and DMSA caused increased cadmium retention in older rats and decreased retention in sucklings. Opposite to results with CaDTPA, MeOBDCG was effective in reducing cadmium retention also when given as delayed treatment.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Biological impacts of the Fukushima nuclear accident have been reported in various organisms but have not been evaluated sufficiently. Here, we collected the pale grass blue butterfly, Zizeeria maha, in September 2016, 5.5 years after the accident, from ex-evacuation zones in Fukushima Prefecture to evaluate the remaining biological effects of the accident. Although the morphological abnormality rate was not high, it was significantly positively correlated with the initial 131I and 137Cs deposition levels (as of March 2011). The capture rate was negatively correlated with the initial 137Cs deposition level at the borderline of significance. Neither the abnormality rate nor the capture rate was correlated with the ground radiation dose (as of September 2016). Generalized linear model (GLM) analysis also indicated contributions of the initial 131I and 137Cs deposition levels but not the ground radiation dose. These results suggest that the butterflies present in the ex-evacuation zones in 2016 were still affected, although not severely, mainly because of the initial high-dose exposure to radioiodine, radiocesium, and other radionuclides. We conclude that transgenerational effects of radioactive contamination have successively manifested in the 5.5 years since the accident, possibly through genetic mutations, although potential contributions of other modes of damage cannot be ignored.  相似文献
