Due to the advantage of improving the sensing performance, narrow-band metamaterial perfect absorbers (MPAs) have attracted much attention in the sensor field. Here, we propose an ultra-narrow-band infrared absorber (UNBIRA) based on localized surface plasmon resonance. The peak absorption of the UNBIRA exceeds 99% with the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 1.94 nm and 6.32 nm for transverse electric (TE) wave and transverse magnetic (TM) wave in 1.5–1.8 μm. The corresponding Q-factors for TE wave and TM wave are 817 and 266, respectively. When used as an infrared refractive index sensor, the sensitivity of UNBIRA is as high as 1632.5 nm/RIU for TE wave and 1647.5 nm/RIU for TM wave. Accordingly, the figure of merits (FOMs) of 816.2/RIU for TE wave and 260.7/RIU for TM wave are achieved. This UNBIRA possesses a simple geometry structure and an excellent sensing performance, implying a great potential for application of ultra-narrow infrared sensing or detecting.

Extremely low frequency magnetic fields interact with an animal by inducing internal electric fields, which are in addition to the normal endogenous fields present in living animals. Male rats weighing about 560 g each were anesthetized with ketamine and xylazine. Small incisions were made in the ventral body wall at the chest and upper abdomen to position a miniature probe for measuring internal electric fields. The calibration constant for the probe size was 5.7 mm, with a flat response from at least 12 Hz to 20 kHz. A cardiac signal, similar to the normal electrocardiogram with a heart rate of about 250 bpm, was readily obtained at the chest. Upon analysis of its spectrum, the cardiac field detected by the probe had a broad maximum at 32–95 Hz. When the rats were exposed to a 1 mT, 60 Hz magnetic field, a spike appeared in the spectrum at 60 Hz. The peak-to-peak magnitudes of electric fields associated with normal heart function were comparable to fields induced by a 1 mT magnetic field at 60 Hz for those positions measured on the body surface (where induced fields were maximal). Within the body, or in different directions relative to the applied field, the induced fields were reduced (reaching zero at the center of the animal). The cardiac field increased near the heart, becoming much larger than the induced field. Thus, the cardiac electric field, together with the other endogenous fields, combine with induced electric fields and help to provide reference levels for the induced-field dosimetry of ELF magnetic field exposures of living animals. Extremely-low-frequency (ELF) magnetic fields interact with an animal by inducing internal electric fields, which represent the internal dose from an external exposure. In this study, an electric field probe of approximately 2 mm resolution was used to measure fields induced in rat carcasses by a 60 Hz magnetic field at 1 mT. With the rat lying on its side, the probe was inserted through a small hole in the body wall, and scanned at 5 mm increments from the side with frontal and axial exposure (field horizontal) and from the front with lateral exposure (field vertical). The induced electric field declined from a maximum at the entrance to the abdomen and crossed zero to negative (180° phase shift) values within the body as expected. In general, the magnitudes of the measurements inside the abdomen were less than expected from whole-body calculations that used homogeneous-ellipsoidal models of a rat in the three orientations. The low measurements did not appear to be explained by perpendicular field components, by conductivity differences between the tissue and the probe path, or by air in the lungs. The low measurements probably result from inhomogeneities in actual rats that include conductivity differences between tissues and biological membranes. For example, an alternative model considered the abdominal cavity to be electrically isolated from the body by the diaphragm and the peritoneum and calculations from this model were in better agreement with the measurements inside the abdomen (than were the whole-body calculations). Therefore, inhomogeneities in conductivity and biomembranes such as the peritoneum should be considered in order to fully understand ELF-induced field dosimetry. © 1996 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献

The propagation of a nonlinear right-hand polarized wave along an external magnetic field in subcritical plasma in the electron cyclotron resonance region is studied using numerical simulations. It is shown that a small-amplitude plasma wave excited in low-density plasma is unstable against modulation instability with a modulation period equal to the wavelength of the excited wave. The modulation amplitude in this case increases with decreasing detuning from the resonance frequency. The simulations have shown that, for large-amplitude waves of the laser frequency range propagating in plasma in a superstrong magnetic field, the maximum amplitude of the excited longitudinal electric field increases with the increasing external magnetic field and can reach 30% of the initial amplitude of the electric field in the laser wave. In this case, the energy of plasma electrons begins to substantially increase already at magnetic fields significantly lower than the resonance value. The laser energy transferred to plasma electrons in a strong external magnetic field is found to increase severalfold compared to that in isotropic plasma. It is shown that this mechanism of laser radiation absorption depends only slightly on the electron temperature.  相似文献

We present a computational study of reentry wave propagation using electrophysiological models of human cardiac cells and the associated magnetic field map of a human heart. We examined the details of magnetic field variation and related physiological parameters for reentry waves in two-dimensional (2-D) human atrial tissue and a three-dimensional (3-D) human ventricle model. A 3-D mesh system representing the human ventricle was reconstructed from the surface geometry of a human heart. We used existing human cardiac cell models to simulate action potential (AP) propagation in atrial tissue and 3-D ventricular geometry, and a finite element method and the Galerkin approximation to discretize the 3-D domain spatially. The reentry wave was generated using an S1-S2 protocol. The calculations of the magnetic field pattern assumed a horizontally layered conductor for reentry wave propagation in the 3-D ventricle. We also compared the AP and magnetocardiograph (MCG) magnitudes during reentry wave propagation to those during normal wave propagation. The temporal changes in the reentry wave motion and magnetic field map patterns were also analyzed using two well-known MCG parameters: the current dipole direction and strength. The current vector in a reentry wave forms a rotating spiral. We delineated the magnetic field using the changes in the vector angle during a reentry wave, demonstrating that the MCG pattern can be helpful for theoretical analysis of reentry waves.  相似文献

Videofilm images of the heartbeat in the living embryos of the waterstrider, Gerris paludum insularis, were analyzed to demonstrate successive changes in the width of the contractile heart at the different developmental stages. This information is graphically represented and termed structural cardiogram. Onset of the embryonic heartbeat characterized by anteriorly spreading peristaltic movement of the heart wall occurs at about 55% HL (percent heart length) as early as at about 81 h after katatrepsis (K+81 h embryo). This peristaltic wave occurs almost always following swinging movement of abdominal tip observed exclusively at this stage. Similar peristaltic wave of the heart wall may also be observed at later stages, exclusively in the anterior two-fifth of the heart. Conduction velocity of the peristaltic wave estimated from structural cardiogram of K+81 h embryo was approximately 0.57 mm/s; it was approximately 1.33 mm/s in the K+102 h embryos. In the posterior three-fifth of the heart, however, rhythmic movement was not peristaltic. Development of heartbeat generator in the specific region of the heart was discussed in relation to the onset of embryonic heartbeat.  相似文献

The propagation of MHD plasma waves in a sheared magnetic field is investigated. The problem is solved using a simplified model: a cold plasma is inhomogeneous in one direction, and the magnetic field lines are straight. The waves are assumed to travel in the plane perpendicular to the radial coordinate (i.e., the coordinate along which the plasma and magnetic field are inhomogeneous). It is shown that the character of the singularity at the resonance surface is the same as that in a homogeneous magnetic field. It is found that the shear gives rise to the transverse dispersion of Alfvén waves, i.e., the dependence of the radial component of the wave vector on the wave frequency. In the presence of shear, Alfvén waves are found to propagate across magnetic surfaces. In this case, the transparent region is bounded by two turning points, at one of which, the radial component of the wave vector approaches infinity and, at the other one, it vanishes. At the turning point for magnetosonic waves, the electric and magnetic fields are finite; however, the radial component of the wave vector approaches infinity, rather than vanishes as in the case with a homogeneous field.  相似文献

The mitochondrial ATPase inhibitor proteins--the Pullman-Monroy inhibitor (PMI) and the Ca(2+)-binding protein (CaBI)--have a wide distribution, both being present in mitochondria of bovine heart and kidney, rat liver and brain, two mitochondrial populations of rabbit skeletal muscle, and mitochondria from human fibroblasts and the human breast cancer cell line T-47-D. The ratio of CaBI to PMI was highest in heart and skeletal muscle mitochondria. The subsarcolemmal fraction of skeletal muscle had 2.6-times as much CaBI as did the intermyofibrillar. The ratio of CaBI to PMI in the mitochondria of the other normal tissues and fibroblasts was close to 1. In contrast, mitochondria from T-47D cells had 1.5-times as much PMI as CaBI whilst mitochondria from fibroblasts from a patient with Luft's disease showed a virtual lack of PMI. The specific ATPase, ATP-synthetase and succinate dehydrogenase activities of the Luft's mitochondria were, however, in the normal range. The specific ATP synthetase activity of the T-47D cells was significantly higher than normal. We conclude that tissues like heart and skeletal muscle which experience wide fluctuations in intracellular Ca2+ have a greater need for CaBI. Why lack of PMI could lead to 'loose' coupling of oxidative phosphorylation in skeletal muscle of Luft's patients, but not in fibroblasts is discussed.  相似文献

AimAiming at analysing the signal conduction in muscular fibres, the spatio-temporal dynamics of the magnetic field generated by the propagating muscle action potential (MAP) is studied.MethodIn this prospective, proof of principle study, the magnetic activity of the intrinsic foot muscle after electric stimulation of the tibial nerve was measured using optically pumped magnetometers (OPMs). A classical biophysical electric dipole model of the propagating MAP was implemented to model the source of the data. In order to account for radial currents of the muscular tubules system, a magnetic dipole oriented along the direction of the muscle was added.ResultsThe signal profile generated by the activity of the intrinsic foot muscles was measured by four OPM devices. Three OPM sensors captured the spatio-temporal magnetic field pattern of the longitudinal intrinsic foot muscles. Changes of the activation pattern reflected the propagating muscular action potential along the muscle. A combined electric and magnetic dipole model could explain the recorded magnetic activity.InterpretationOPM devices allow for a new, non-invasive way to study MAP patterns. Since magnetic fields are less altered by the tissue surrounding the dipole source compared to electric activity, a precise analysis of the spatial characteristics and temporal dynamics of the MAP is possible. The classic electric dipole model explains major but not all aspects of the magnetic field. The field has longitudinal components generated by intrinsic structures of the muscle fibre. By understanding these magnetic components, new methods could be developed to analyse the muscular signal transduction pathway in greater detail. The approach has the potential to become a promising diagnostic tool in peripheral neurological motor impairments.  相似文献

This investigation studied the effect of 50 Hz electric and magnetic fields on the human heart. The electrocardiograms of 27 transmission-line workers and 26 male volunteers were recorded with a Holter recorder both in and outside the fields. The measurements took from half an hour to a few hours. The electric field strength varied from 0.14 to 10.21 kV/m and the magnetic flux density from 1.02 to 15.43 μT. Analysis of the ECG recordings showed that extrasystoles or arrhythmias were as frequent outside the field as in the field. In some cases a small decrease in heart rate was observed after field exposure. © 1993 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献

Phosphomannose isomerases (PMIs) in bacteria and fungi catalyze the reversible conversion of D-fructose-6-phosphate to D-mannose-6-phosphate during biosynthesis of GDP-mannose, which is the main intermediate in the mannosylation of important cell wall components, glycoproteins, and certain glycolipids. In the present study, the kinetic parameters of PMI from Streptomyces coelicolor were obtained, and its function on antibiotic production and sporulation was studied. manA (SCO3025) encoding PMI in S. coelicolor was deleted by insertional inactivation. Its mutant (S. coelicolor?manA) was found to exhibit a bld-like phenotype. Additionally, S. coelicolor?manA failed to produce the antibiotics actinorhodin and red tripyrolle undecylprodigiosin in liquid media. To identify the function of manA, the gene was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3). The purified recombinant ManA exhibited PMI activity (K(cat)/K(m) (mM(-1) s(-1) = 0.41 for D-mannose-6-phosphate), but failed to show GDP-D-mannose pyrophosphorylase [GMP (ManC)] activity. Complementation analysis with manA from S. coelicolor or E. coli resulted in the recovery of bld-like phenotype of S. coelicolor?manA. SCO3026, another ORF that encodes a protein with sequence similarity towards bifunctional PMI and GMP, was also tested for its ability to function as an alternate ManA. However, the purified protein of SCO3026 failed to exhibit both PMI and GMP activity. The present study shows that enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism could control cellular differentiation as well as the production of secondary metabolites.  相似文献

Aortic dissection and atherosclerosis are highly fatal diseases. The development of both diseases is closely associated with highly complex haemodynamics. Thus, in predicting the onset of cardiac disease, it is desirable to obtain a detailed understanding of the flowfield characteristics in the human cardiovascular circulatory system. Accordingly, in this study, a numerical model of a normal human thoracic aorta is constructed using the geometry information obtained from a phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging (PC-MRI) technique. The interaction between the blood flow and the vessel wall dynamics is then investigated using a coupled fluid–structure interaction (FSI) analysis. The simulations focus specifically on the flowfield characteristics and pulse wave velocity (PWV) of the blood flow. Instead of using a conventional PC-MRI method to measure PWV, we present an innovative application of using the FSI approach to numerically resolve PWV for the assessment of wall compliance in a thoracic aorta model. The estimated PWV for a normal thoracic aorta agrees well with the results obtained via PC-MRI measurement. In addition, simulations which consider the FSI effect yield a lower predicted value of the wall shear stress at certain locations in the cardiac cycle than models which assume a rigid vessel wall. Consequently, the model provides a suitable basis for the future development of more sophisticated methods capable of performing the computer-aided analysis of aortic blood flows.  相似文献

A theoretical analysis of electric and magnetic fields of the heart, based solely upon the scalar multipole expansion, is carried out in order to gain an insight into the interrelation of the data contained in electro- and magnetocardiological measurements. The usual multipole expansion is applied for the electric field, however corresp[nding equivalent multipoles are formulated as idealized generators, having not only flow sources, but also vortex sources of the field. Furthermore, the magnetic field in a homogeneous infinite volume conductor is expressed as a sum of two series, the first being the usual multipole expansion of the nonvortex component of the magnetic field, and the second being a sequence of magnetic fields set up by the aforementioned electric multipole generators reduced to axial form. The former term is uniquely defined by the electric multipole components, but the latter reflects properties of the cardiogenerator that can be revealed only by means of magnetic measurements. Features of the electric and magnetic multipole components as integral characteristics of the cardiogenerator are discussed and concepts of the magnetic centre and magnetic axis of the cardiogenerator are proposed. The analysis is illustrated by examples of simple generator configurations.  相似文献

A mechanism is proposed that can lead to radial ion acceleration in a plasma discharge excited by an electron beam in a relatively weak longitudinal magnetic field. The mechanism operates as follows. The beam generates an azimuthally asymmetric slow potential wave, which traps electrons. Trapped magnetized electrons drift radially with a fairly high velocity under the combined action of the azimuthal wave field (which is constant for them) and a relatively weak external longitudinal magnetic field. The radial electron flux generates a radial charge-separation electric field, which accelerates unmagnetized plasma ions in the radial direction. The ion flux densities and energies achievable in experiments with kiloelectronvolt electron beams in magnetic fields of up to 100 G are estimated.  相似文献

This study was designed to assess the effect of exposure to long-term extremely low-frequency electric and magnetic fields (ELF-EMF) from a 500 kV transmission line on IL-1 and IL-2 activity in sheep. The primary hypothesis was that the reduction in IL-1 activity observed in our two previous short-term studies (10 months) was due to EMF exposure from this transmission line. To repeat and expand these studies and to characterize the components of EMF responsible for the previously observed reduction in IL-1 activity, the current experiment examined not only the effect of exposure to electric and magnetic fields, but also the magnetic field component alone. In the current study, IL-2 was examined to characterize the effects of EMF exposure on an indicator of T cell responses. 45 Suffolk ewe lambs were randomized into three groups of 15 animals each. One group of animals was placed in the EMF pen, located directly beneath the transmission line. A second group was placed in the shielded MF (magnetic field only) pen, also directly beneath the transmission line. The third group of animals was placed in the control pen located several hundred meters away from the transmission line. During the 27 month exposure period, blood samples were taken from all animals monthly. When the data were analyzed collectively over time, no significant differences between the groups were found for IL-1 or IL-2 activity. In previous studies ewe lambs of 8-10 weeks of age were used as the study animals and significant differences in IL-1 activity were observed after exposure of these animals to EMF at mean magnetic fields of 3.5-3.8 microT (35-38 mG) and mean electric fields of 5.2-5.8 kV/m. At the start of the current study EMF levels were reduced as compared to previous studies. One interpretation of the current data is that magnetic field strength and age of the animals may be important variables in determining whether EMF exposure will affect IL-1 activity.  相似文献

Results are presented from experiments on the acceleration of electrons by a 2.45-GHz microwave field in an adiabatic mirror trap under electron cyclotron resonance conditions, the electric and wave vectors of the wave being orthogonal to the trap axis. At a microwave electric field of ≥10 V/cm and air pressures of 10?6–10?4 Torr (the experiments were also performed with helium and argon), a self-sustained discharge was initiated in which a fraction of plasma electrons were accelerated to energies of 0.3–0.5 MeV. After the onset of instability, the acceleration terminated; the plasma decayed; and the accelerated electrons escaped toward the chamber wall, causing the generation of X-ray emission. Estimates show that electrons can be accelerated to the above energies only in the regime of self-phased interaction with the microwave field, provided that the electrons with a relativistically increased mass penetrate into the region with a higher magnetic field. It is shown that the negative-mass instability also can contribute to electron acceleration. The dynamic friction of the fast electrons by neutral particles in the drift space between the resonance zones does not suppress electron acceleration, so the electrons pass into a runaway regime. Since the air molecules excited by relativistic runaway electrons radiate primarily in the red spectral region, this experiment can be considered as a model of high-altitude atmospheric discharges, known as “red sprites.”  相似文献

Increased oxidative stress and reduction in antioxidant enzymes have been suggested to be involved in the pathophysiology of congestive heart failure subsequent to myocardial infarction (MI). The objective of the present study was to characterize changes in the mRNA abundance and protein levels for the enzymatic antioxidants, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSHPx) and catalase during the sequelae of congestive heart failure in rats. MI was produced by the ligation of the left coronary artery and hearts from controls and 1, 4 and 16 week PMI groups were analyzed. Losartan treatment (2 mg/ml in drinking water, daily) was started at 4 weeks and continued for 12 weeks. The mRNA levels for SOD were reduced by about 40% at 1-week PMI, were near to the control levels at 4-week PMI and at 16 weeks PMI, the levels were reduced by about 73% below the controls. GSHPx mRNA levels remained unchanged at all time points. The mRNA levels for catalase remained unchanged at 1 and 4 weeks PMI and were significantly reduced by about 44% at 16 weeks PMI as compared to the controls. The protein levels for MnSOD, CuZnSOD, GSHPx at 1 and 16 weeks remained unchanged in treated and untreated PMI groups. However, the protein levels for catalase was significantly increased in the control and PMI groups treated with Losartan. It is concluded that changes in the SOD and catalase activities during severe heart failure correlated with changes in mRNA for these enzymes. The precise mechanism/s for the improvement in antioxidant reserve and protein levels after Losartan treatment is/are unclear at this time.  相似文献

A study is made of the parametric excitation of potential surface waves propagating in a planar plasma-metal waveguide structure in a magnetic field perpendicular to the plasma-metal boundary. An external, spatially uniform, alternating electric field at the second harmonic of the excited wave is used as the source of parametric excitation. A set of equations is derived that describes the excitation of surface waves due to the onset of decay instability. Expressions for the growth rates in the linear stage of instability are obtained, and the threshold amplitudes of the external electric field above which the parametric instability can occur are found. Analytic expressions for the saturation amplitudes are derived with allowance for the self-interaction of each of the excited waves and the interaction between them. The effect of the plasma parameters and the strength of the external magnetic field on the saturation amplitude, growth rates, and the threshold amplitudes of the pump electric field are analyzed.  相似文献

Ketamine-anesthetized Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to far-field 1200-MHz continuous wave radiofrequency radiation in both E and H orientations (long axis of animal parallel to electric or magnetic field, respectively). Power densities were used that resulted in equivalent whole-body specific absorption rates of approximately 8 W/kg in both orientations (20 mW/cm2 for E and 45 mW/cm2 for H). Exposure was conducted to repeatedly increase colonic temperature from 38.5 to 39.5 degrees C in both orientations in the same animal. Irradiation in E orientation resulted in greater colonic, tympanic, left subcutaneous (side toward antenna), and tail heating. The results indicated a more uniform distribution of heat than that which occurred in previous experiments of 2450-MHz irradiation in E and H orientation. A lack of significant differences in blood pressure and heart rate responses between exposures in the two orientations in this study suggest that greater peripheral heating, as was seen in the earlier study of 2450 MHz, is necessary for these differences to occur.  相似文献

Reentrant spiral waves can become pinned to small anatomical obstacles in the heart and lead to monomorphic ventricular tachycardia that can degenerate into polymorphic tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation. Electric field-induced secondary source stimulation can excite directly at the obstacle, and may provide a means to terminate the pinned wave or inhibit the transition to more complex arrhythmia. We used confluent monolayers of neonatal rat ventricular myocytes to investigate the use of low intensity electric field stimulation to perturb the spiral wave. A hole 2-4 mm in diameter was created in the center to pin the spiral wave. Monolayers were stained with voltage-sensitive dye di-4-ANEPPS and mapped at 253 sites. Spiral waves were initiated that attached to the hole (n = 10 monolayers). Electric field pulses 1-s in duration were delivered with increasing strength (0.5-5 V/cm) until the wave terminated after detaching from the hole. At subdetachment intensities, cycle length increased with field strength, was sustained for the duration of the pulse, and returned to its original value after termination of the pulse. Mechanistically, conduction velocity near the wave tip decreased with field strength in the region of depolarization at the obstacle. In summary, electric fields cause strength-dependent slowing or detachment of pinned spiral waves. Our results suggest a means to decelerate tachycardia that may help to prevent wave degeneration.  相似文献
