This study aimed to assess AMF diversity in various plant species in lakes with low and relatively high P concentrations to elucidate possible correlations with environmental factors in order for better understanding the functioning of mycorrhizal fungi in submerged plants. A considerable diversity of AMF communities was observed in the lakes with low dissolved P concentrations, especially in the roots of Littorella uniflora. Glomus group A, Archaeospora and Acaulospora were the most frequent and diverse AMF lineages with eight, seven and four phylotypes at Littorella uniflora in at least six lakes with low dissolved P concentrations. In theses lakes, AMF were for the first time observed in the roots of J. bulbosus, a member of a family previously thought to be non-mycorrhizal. In the lakes with relatively high dissolved P concentrations, the frequency decreased from Acaulospora, found at three locations, to Archaeospora at two locations and Glomus group A and Paraglomus at one location.All chemical parameters of the surface water layer, except pH, revealed significant (p ≤ 0.01) differences between the lakes with low and relatively high dissolved P concentrations. Mean Mg2+, Ca2+, K+, NH4+, CO2, o-PO43− and HCO3− were 3, 13.5, 15.7, 19.5, 31 and 42.6 times higher, respectively, in the lakes with relatively high dissolved P concentrations compared to the lakes with low dissolved P concentrations. AMF occurred more abundantly with low phosphate and high redox values in the lakes than with high phosphate and low redox values. The pH-value, the total-calcium and total-phosphorus concentrations were strongly correlated with the occurrence of Glomus phylotypes 4 and Archaeospora phylotypes 5 and 8, and a bit less with Acaulospora phylotype 4 and Archaeospora phylotype 3. In such lakes the presence of a diverse AMF community still enables the uptake of sufficient P for isoetid plant species despite the prevailing ‘ultra-oligotrophic’ conditions. As a consequence, macrophyte plant communities in lakes with relatively high dissolved P concentrations are less dependent on AMF colonization for their development. 相似文献

Biodiversity in extreme aquatic environments: Lakes, ponds and streams of the Ross Sea sector, Antarctica 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The Ross Sea Sector (RSS) of Antarcticallies between the lines of longitude 150°E and 150°W and contains diverse landscapes with a variety of lakes, ponds and streams. Neither insects nor crustacean species have been recorded in these ecosystems but most contain planktonic and/or benthic communities that are composed exclusively of microscopic organisms. Microbial brodiversity is low with a small number of species (e.g. filamentous cyanobacteria of the family Oscillatoriaceae) occurring under a broad range of environmental conditions throughout the region. There is no evidence to date of microbial endemism in the RSS; however, there is a need to apply molecular and cellular techniques to compare biodiversity and genetic characteristics with assemblages elsewhere in Antarctica and with comparable communities in the north polar zone. A series of hypotheses are advanced to help guide further work. These derive from the conclusion that environmental extremes plus biogeographical isolation control the biodiversity of RSS communities, and that biological interactions (competition, grazing, predation, parasitism) are weak and play a minor role by comparison with temperate latitude ecosystems. 相似文献

To investigate the effects of Procambarus clarkii on macroinvertebrate diversity, we conducted a mesocosm experiment simulating small pools in rice field pads after the rice
season. We hypothesized that crayfish predation would negatively impact macroinvertebrate diversity, and the magnitude of
this impact should vary with the size of P. clarkii. We conducted a short-term mesocosm experiment to determine macroinvertebrate diversity in the presence of three size classes
and in the absence of crayfish, as well as the diet composition of crayfish from the three size classes. At the end of the
experiments, the diet of crayfish was composed of the most available taxa (Culicidae, Chironomus, Tanytarsini and Orthocladinae). These results also show evidence that, in confined areas, crayfish are important predators
of major rice pests such as rice Chironominae larvae. Macroinvertebrate diversity was negatively affected by crayfish presence,
but the effect was inversely proportional to crayfish size. The highest diversity index was obtained in the absence of P. clarkii, and juvenile crayfish significantly reduced macroinvertebrate diversity. Thus, the impact of P. clarkii on aquatic macroinvertebrates is size dependent and may be relevant in small pools formed in rice field pads from early autumn
to late winter. Overall, our findings suggest that the negative effects of P. clarkii on macroinvertebrate diversity may be particularly strong in local natural assemblages confined to puddles of water or small

Unsown fallow plots, commonly referred to as ‘lapwing plots’, are widely promoted within the English agri-environmental programme, but remain unstudied outside of England. We tested Lapwing plots in an industrialised agricultural landscape in Central Europe from 2010 to 2015. Lapwings (Vanellus vanellus) and other birds as well as plant species were mapped. Factors influencing the success of the plots were modelled to obtain information on how to design a well-working agri-environment scheme (AES).Lapwings were present at 65% of the 61 lapwing plots studied, whereas colonisation of untreated control sites was significantly lower (37%). 64 lapwing pairs bred at 26 lapwing plots, but only 18 pairs at nine untreated sites. Hatching success was significantly higher than without treatment (24 pairs at 11 lapwing plots vs. 3 pairs at 2 control sites). Other species which benefitted from the measures were Eurasian Skylark (Alauda arvensis) and Yellow Wagtail (Motacilla flava).The modelling of key factors showed that a successful lapwing plot should be: (1) large (at least about 2 ha); (2) located at a traditional breeding site; (3) sparsely vegetated; and, (4) equipped with a shallow pool of water. Placing them in winter cereals improved hatching success.Lapwing plots at damp sites are a promising AES for lapwing conservation in industrialised agricultural landscapes in Central Europe. 相似文献

1. The Riparian, Channel and Environmental (RCE) Inventory has been developed to assess the physical and biological condition of small streams in the lowland, agricultural landscape. It consists of sixteen characteristics which define the structure of the riparian zone, stream channel morphology, and the biological condition in both habitats. 2. The inventory is based on the view that in landscapes where non-point source pollution and agriculture dominate, the environmental condition of small streams can be assessed by an appraisal of the physical condition of the riparian zone and stream channel. It is assumed that disturbance of this physical structure is a major cause for reduction of stream biological structure and function. This assumption is supported by a case study using fifteen Italian stream locations in which the RCE was found to be positively correlated to the benthic macroinvertebrate community as measured by the Extended Biotic Index (r = 0.80, P < 0.001) and the Shannon Diversity Index (r = 0.73; P < 0.001). 3. The inventory is designed for quick use to cover a large number of streams in a short period of time. When used it generates a numerical score which can be used to compare the physical and biological condition between different streams within a region. The numerical score is divided into five, colour-coded classes to facilitate use in streammonitoring programmes and to allow comparison with biological indices. 相似文献

Aquatic oligochaetes are abundant in polluted areas and are, therefore, commonly used as bioindicators to study organic pollution
in rivers and streams. In order to develop a species-level oligochaete biotic index to reflect the River Pollution Index (RPI)
in the Taichung Water Basin in Taiwan, we conducted a systematic sampling scheme to collect aquatic oligochaetes from the
sediment samples of watercourses in the Taichung Water Basin, Taiwan. We evaluated the relationships between aquatic oligochaetes
and the sewage pollution using statistical methods. The distribution of aquatic oligochaetes in relation to environmental
variables, such as water quality and sediment characteristics of the regional urban contaminated streams was expressed by
Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA). We identified 17 species of aquatic oligochaetes (Annelida, Clitellata) including
3 species of Tubificidae, 13 species of Naididae, and 1 species of Enchytraeidae from the watercourses of an urban region
in the Taichung Water Basin in Taiwan, during the summer and winter of 2005 and 2006. A positive correlation was found between
the total abundance of aquatic oligochaetes and the RPI (r = 0.58, P < 0.05). However, only population density of the most abundant tubificid, Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri, increased with increasing RPI values and a significantly negative correlation was found between the population density of
the naidid, Nais
communis, and RPI values. The results of CCA indicated that certain naidids, such as Aulophorus furcatus and Allonais
gwaliorensis also tolerated extremely polluted environments in upper stream or stony habitats, implying that tubificids should not be
the sole representation of simple biotic indices but should also include pollution-tolerant naidids. We found that the community
structure of aquatic oligochaetes was influenced by short-term variations in microhabitat rather than according to seasonal
factors in our study region. The results proved that aquatic oligochaetes were sensitive enough to provide a supplement for
the regional urban pollution assessment applications for biotic indicators at the species-level. 相似文献

Agroecosystems have traditionally been considered incompatible with biological conservation goals, and often been excluded from spatial conservation prioritization strategies. The consequences for the representativeness of identified priority areas have been little explored. Here, we evaluate these for biodiversity and carbon storage representation when agricultural land areas are excluded from a spatial prioritization strategy for South America. Comparing different prioritization approaches, we also assess how the spatial overlap of priority areas changes. The exclusion of agricultural lands was detrimental to biodiversity representation, indicating that priority areas for agricultural production overlap with areas of relatively high occurrence of species. By contrast, exclusion of agricultural lands benefits representation of carbon storage within priority areas, as lands of high value for agriculture and carbon storage overlap little. When agricultural lands were included and equally weighted with biodiversity and carbon storage, a balanced representation resulted. Our findings suggest that with appropriate management, South American agroecosystems can significantly contribute to biodiversity conservation. 相似文献

Using multivariate analyses, we evaluated the roles of landscape position and human development in the presence, composition, and abundance of freshwater macrophyte communities among 60 study lakes located in Vilas County, Wisconsin. These lakes varied in their position in a drainage network and surrounding land use as well as size, maximum depth, chemistry, and clarity. We used non-metric multidimensional scaling ordination, cluster analyses, and classification tree analyses to assess the multivariate relationships among macrophyte communities and environmental variables including an index of human development. Macrophyte communities in lakes high in the landscape were found to be dominated by isoetids while lakes low in the drainage network were dominated by elodeids due to the difference in bicarbonate concentrations. The presence of the human-introduced crayfish, Orconectes rusticus, had a high and significant correlation with the absence of macrophytes. An increase in human development correlated with a decrease in macrophyte abundance. 相似文献
