Enzymatic preparations from king crab hepatopancreas were shown to be capable, in principle, of producing protein hydrolysates. Hydrolysis of protein-containing waste of deep-water prawn and king crab occurs most successfully at pH 8.0-8.5 and 50-55 degrees C for 5-6 h in the presence of 6 g enzyme per kg substrate. The total chemical composition of the hydrolysates, the molecular weight distributions of proteins and polypeptides, and the contents of free amino acids were studied in dry hydrolysates.  相似文献

Ocean acidification, a decrease in the pH in marine waters associated with rising atmospheric CO2 levels, is a serious threat to marine ecosystems. In this paper, we determine the effects of long-term exposure to near-future levels of ocean acidification on the growth, condition, calcification, and survival of juvenile red king crabs, Paralithodes camtschaticus, and Tanner crabs, Chionoecetes bairdi. Juveniles were reared in individual containers for nearly 200 days in flowing control (pH 8.0), pH 7.8, and pH 7.5 seawater at ambient temperatures (range 4.4–11.9 °C). In both species, survival decreased with pH, with 100% mortality of red king crabs occurring after 95 days in pH 7.5 water. Though the morphology of neither species was affected by acidification, both species grew slower in acidified water. At the end of the experiment, calcium concentration was measured in each crab and the dry mass and condition index of each crab were determined. Ocean acidification did not affect the calcium content of red king crab but did decrease the condition index, while it had the opposite effect on Tanner crabs, decreasing calcium content but leaving the condition index unchanged. This suggests that red king crab may be able to maintain calcification rates, but at a high energetic cost. The decrease in survival and growth of each species is likely to have a serious negative effect on their populations in the absence of evolutionary adaptation or acclimatization over the coming decades.  相似文献

Chipped tobacco stalks were subjected to steam pretreatment at 205 °C for either 5 or 10 min before enzymatic hydrolysis. Glucose (15.4–17.1 g/l) and xylose (4.5–5.0 g/l) were the most abundant monosaccharides in the hydrolysates. Mannose, galactose and arabinose were also detected. The hydrolysate produced by pretreatment for 10 min contained higher levels of all sugars than the 5 min-pretreated hydrolysate. The amounts of inhibitory compounds found in the hydrolysates were relatively low and increased with increasing pretreatment time. The hydrolysates were fermented with baker's yeast. Ethanol yield, maximum volumetric productivity and specific productivity were used as criteria of fermentability of the hydrolysates. The fermentation of the hydrolysates was only slightly inhibited compared to reference solutions having a similar composition of fermentable sugars. The ethanol yield in the hydrolysates was 0.38–0.39 g/g of initial fermentable sugars, whereas it was 0.42 g/g in the reference. The biomass yield was twofold lower in the hydrolysates than in the reference. The fermentation inhibition caused by the tobacco stalk hydrolysates was less than that caused by sugarcane bagasse hydrolysates obtained under the same hydrolysis conditions.  相似文献

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) primers for three trinucleotide and three tetranucleotide microsatellite loci were developed for red king crab (Paralithodes camtschaticus) to aid in studies of genetic population structure in Alaskan waters. Number of alleles ranged from six to 18 alleles (N = 562), and locus heterozygosities ranged from 0.505 to 0.839. Six primers were cross amplified with golden king crab (Lithodes aequispinus); five primers with blue king crab (P. platypus); and one primer with the splendid hermit crab (Labidochirus splendescens), the ‘missing link’ between pagurid and lithodid crabs. No cross amplification occurred with Tanner crab (Chionoecetes bairdi) or Aleutian hermit crab (Pagurus aleuticus).  相似文献

Summary Eucalyptus globulus wood hydrolysates were concentrated by vacuum evaporation to increase their xylose contents, treated with activated charcoal, supplemented with nutrients and used as culture media for xylitol production by Debaryomyces hansenii NRRL Y-7426. The susceptibility of hydrolysates to fermentation was strongly dependent on the initial cell concentration: media containing 58–78 g xylose/l were hardly consumed in batch experiments starting with 16 g cells/l, whereas 39–41 g xylitol/l were achieved in fermentations carried out with similar concentration of the carbon source and initial cell concentrations of 50–80 g/l).  相似文献

  • 1.1. Juvenile king crabs were more tolerant of reduced salinities than adult crab; juvenile crab were better volume regulators at reduced salinities than adult crab.
  • 2.2. Adult female king crab hemolymph was hyperosmotic to full seawater (30 ppt) and isosmotic to dilute seawater. Juvenile king crab (2 years old) were hypoosmotic at the same concentrations.
  • 3.3. Lower osmotic concentration of juvenile hemolymph is at least partially due to lower sodium concentration.
  • 4.4. Juvenile king crab can tolerate some dilution and survive for short periods in the reduced salinity of the lower intertidal zone.

Low-molecular-weight (3–6 kDa) water-soluble chitosan was obtained by enzymatic depolymerization. Hydrolysis of crab chitosan was induced by O-glycoside hydrolase (EC 3.2.1), the extracellular chitinolytic complex from Bacillussp. 739. The optimum conditions for hydrolysis were found (sodium–acetate buffer, pH 5.2; 55°C; and an enzyme/substrate ratio of 4 U per g chitosan; 1 h).  相似文献

The seas around Alaska support (or have supported) some of the most commercially significant crustacean stocks in the world, spread over an overwhelming array of extensive and diverse coastal and open shelf areas. Major resources include three species of king crab (Paralithodes spp. and Lithodes aequispina), Tanner and snow crab (Chionoecetes spp.), Dungeness crab (Cancer magister), and five species of pandalid shrimp (Pandalus spp. and Pandalopsis dispar). Excluding the Bering Sea, the resources from the Greater Gulf of Alaska (ranging from the Aleutian Chain to the state's south-eastern panhandle contiguous with British Columbia) supported rapid expansion of several crab and shrimp fisheries during the 20 year period 1960–1980. Since then, most of those fisheries have collapsed. While some of the stock declines have been well documented and discussed (most prominently the dethroning of red king crab on the shelf around Kodiak Island), it has been less apparent that the demise of Alaskan crustace an stocks is a process on a much larger scale, and is still unfolding. Here we examine trends in catch, recruitment and abundance (when possible) and discuss existing evidence of overfishing and management options. We emphasize the importance of recognizing the multi-scale spatial structure of crustacean stocks, and suggest the need to consider spatially explicit strategies, particularly the creation of reproductive refugia  相似文献

Synopsis Sagittal otoliths from 50 king mackerel 2.9–13.0 mm SL and 72 Spanish mackerel 2.8–22.0 mm SL collected off the southeast U.S. were examined whole at 400 × using a compound microscope-video system. Otoliths of both species had visible, presumably daily, growth increments as well as finer subdaily increments. Otolith growth was directly proportional to growth in standard length for king (r2 = 0.91) and Spanish mackerel (r2 = 0.86). Spanish mackerel were estimated to be 3–15 d old with a mean absolute growth rate (SL/number of growth increments) and 95% confidence interval of 1.15 ± 0.07 mm · d–1. The least squares linear equation: SL = –1.30 + 1.31 (age in days), with r2 = 0.67 and p < 0.001, described the relationship between length and age. There was a significant positive relationship between absolute growth rate and fish length. King mackerel were estimated to be 3–15 d old with a mean absolute growth rate of 0.89 ± 0.06 mm d–1. The least squares linear equation: SL = 0.37 + 0.82 (age in days), with r2 = 0.77 and p < 0.001, best described the relationship between length and age. The relationship between growth rate and fish length was not significant. The growth rate of king mackerel was slightly higher for fish from the Mississippi River plume than from all other locations combined, while Spanish mackerel growth rates were not significantly different.  相似文献

The causes of the appearance of large blue king crabs (Paralithodes platypus) in Peter the Great Bay for the last decade are discussed. This species is an important commercial resource in the waters of Russian Far Eastern seas, and its general concentrations are related mainly to the sublittoral and upper bathyal zones of the northwestern Bering Sea and the northern Sea of Okhotsk. Until recently, this species has been observed in areas along the continental coast of the northwestern Sea of Japan up to the Peter the Great Bay, where it incidentally showed up in red king crab (P. camtschaticus) and snow crab (Chionoecetes opilio) catches but was also commercially used. This area was considered as the southern periphery of the species range. Since the late 1990s, both male and female blue king crabs have been recorded in trawl and trap catches during research works conducted within the Peter the Great Bay. Since 2002, any commercial catches of shelf crab species are prohibited in the waters south of 47°20′ N because of a dramatic decline in their populations. Since then all the illegally caught crabs, including blue king crabs that are seized live from poachers, are released back into the water in certain places of the bay. In total, at least 29 503 blue king crabs, including egg-bearing females, were released within the period from 2002 to November 2009. At present, the overall blue king crab abundance in Peter the Great Bay, estimated based on the trap catches over an area of 7048 km2, is 50500, the abundance of commercial-size males (with a carapace width over 130 mm) is 7500, and the male to female ratio is 1.00: 1.35. The increase in the blue king crab population observed in the bay is the result of the immigration of mature and viable individuals from other areas of its range. After this “uncontrolled introduction” blue king crabs adapted to new conditions, and then began breeding and spreading over the entire area of the bay.  相似文献

The protein hydrolysates of two types, fodder and for microbiological medium, have been obtained in vitro, using protein containing wastes of Iceland scallop fishery (WSF) and enzyme preparation from the red king crab hepatopancreas. The degree of protein degradation and composition of obtained hydrolysates were analyzed. Intensive protein hydrolysis was necessary to obtain the microbiological diagnostic cultural media that fit trophic requirements for 12 microbial test-cultures. Addition of the fodder protein hydrolysate to diet of juvenile salmons Salmo salar during mixed feeding produces a positive effect on their survival; the 5 and 20% replacement of fish flour by the fodder hydrolysate results in a reduction of fish mortality by 21 and 57%, respectively. The living weight of chickens increased by 15% after substitution of the 10% fish flour by the fodder WSF hydrolysate in their diet. The results obtained can be explained by a more effective assimilation of partly hydrolyzed proteins in comparison with native ones.  相似文献

Various fish protein hydrolysates (FPH) from sardinella (Sardinella aurita) were used as nitrogen sources for the production of extracellular lipase by the filamentous fungus Rhizopus oryzae. The best results were obtained with defatted meat–fish protein hydrolysates (DMFPH), indicating the presence in the lipid fraction of some constituents which may repress lipase synthesis. Furthermore, it was found that the extensive hydrolysis of fish proteins resulted in a higher lipase production. The use of 40 g DMFPH l–1 for the growth of Rhizopus oryzae in medium R1 resulted in a lipase production of 394 U ml–1, higher than the yield obtained with standard soy peptone as nitrogen source (373 U ml–1). The most appropriate medium for the growth and the production of lipase is composed only of 24 g DMFPH l–1 and 10 g glucose l–1, indicating that the strain can obtain its nitrogen and salts requirements directly from fish substrate.  相似文献

Summary Previously steam explosion had been used to enhance the enzymatic hydrolysis of lignocellulosic substrates to glucose. The conditions for pretreating aspen wood chips were optimized so that highest amounts of undegraded hemicellulose could be obtained after washing the steam exploded chips. The hemicellulose rich water soluble fractions showing highest pentosan yields were then acid hydrolysed to their composite sugars. Approximately 65–75% of the total reducing sugars detected in the wood hydrolysates were in the form of monosaccharides with D-xylose being the major component. Klebsiella pneumoniae was grown in media containing these wood hydrolysates as the substrate and 2,3-butanediol yields of 0.4–0.5 g per g of monosaccharide utilised were obtained.  相似文献

The red king crab (Paralithodes camtschaticus) is a highly valued delicacy on the international market and currently contributes significantly to the income from fisheries in the regions where it is harvested. Russian income from red king crab export is $200–250 million per year. We review both the biology and fishery of the two largest populations of this species in Russia, i.e., in western Kamchatka (Sea of Okhotsk) and in the Barents Sea. The latter was established in the mid-1990s after introduction of red king crab to the area in the 1960s. The Barents Sea crabs are larger, grow faster and mature earlier than the crabs from the Sea of Okhotsk owing to more favorable temperature conditions in the Barents Sea. Additionally, we provide fishery information for the Prymorie population of red king crab (Sea of Japan) that remains depressed and closed for commercial fishery at present. Although the fishery period of red king crab in western Kamchatka is much longer than in the Barents Sea (1930–present time vs. 2004–present time), similar patterns were observed for the exploited king crab populations. High annual landings led to a pronounced decrease in population density and total abundance that, in turn, led to closures or some limitations of fisheries. Subsequent rehabilitations of the populations provided an opportunity for reopening of the fisheries and further exploration of red king crab populations under sustainable management. The main reason explaining a decline in red king crab populations both in the North Pacific and in the Barents Sea is high, mainly illegal, fishing pressure. Sustainable harvest strategies for the fisheries could prevent negative scenarios (overfishing) in the future.  相似文献

We studied the infestation level of the coastal crab Hemigrapsus sanguineus by a cirripede barnacle Polyascus polygenea in Peter the Great Bay (Vostok Bay, Sea of Japan) in 1998–1999. It is shown that the externae of the parasite usually appear on the surface of the host’s body at the time when the crab attains sexual maturity (at a carapace width of 14–15 mm). More often we encountered infested crabs of a medium size, with a carapace width of 25–29 mm. The level of crab invasion did not depend on the sex of the host. In the summer period the proportion of infested crabs in different habitats ranged from 7 to 84%. The greatest number of crabs bearing the externae of the parasite was registered in an area with a boulder-pebble surface and small surf waves.Original Russian Text Copyright © 2005 by Biologiya Morya, Korn, Akhmadieva, Rybakov, Shukalyuk.  相似文献

The species composition of organisms associated with the red king crab Paralithodes camtschaticus (Tilesius, 1815) was investigated in Sayda Inlet of Kola Bay in 2004–2005. Nine fouler species and three symbiotic species were found on the carapaces of the red king crab. Balanus crenatus Bruigere 1789 barnacles were the most abundant fouler species and were found on 14.8% of the crabs. Symbiotic amphipods Ischyrocerus commensalis Chevreux, 1900 were found for one-tenth of all the crabs studied. The mean intensity of the amphipods was significantly greater for September, when the reproduction period of this species occurred. Male and female crabs were hosted with the same intensity. The number of host crabs increased accordingly to the crab size. The proportion of hosted crabs was three-fold less in Sayda Inlet than in the less polluted areas of the Barents Sea.  相似文献

Antioxidant properties of chitosan from crab shells   总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0
Crab chitosan was prepared by alkaline N-deacetylation of crab chitin for 60, 90 and 120 min and its antioxidant properties studied. Chitosan exhibited showed antioxidant activities of 58.3–70.2% at 1 mg/mL and showed reducing powers of 0.32–0.44 at 10 mg/mL. At 10 mg/mL, the scavenging ability of chitosan C60 on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radicals was 28.4% whereas those of other chitosans were 46.4–52.3%. At 0.1 mg/mL, scavenging abilities on hydroxyl radicals were 62.3–77.6% whereas at 1 mg/mL, chelating abilities on ferrous ions were 82.9–96.5%. All EC50 values of antioxidant activity were below 1.5 mg/mL. With regard to antioxidant properties assayed, the effectiveness of chitosans C60, C90 and C120 correlated with their N-deacetylation times. Overall, crab chitosan was good in antioxidant activity, scavenging ability on hydroxyl radicals and chelating abilities on ferrous ions and may be used as a source of antioxidants, as a possible food supplement or ingredient in the pharmaceutical industry.  相似文献

The morphological transformation of hermit crabs into crab‐like king crabs in the evolution of decapod crustaceans represents a remarkable case of carcinization or evolutionary shaping into a crab‐like form. In this study, we focus on internal organs such as the hemolymph vascular system and adjacent anatomical structures of several Recent hermit crab (Paguridae) and king crab (Lithodidae) species. There are various correspondences in the morphology of the arterial systems in the dorsal cephalothorax of the two taxa, especially with regard to the anterior aorta, anterior lateral arteries, and hepatic arteries. In the pleon, the posterior aorta in both taxa displays a proximal bifurcation and follows an asymmetrical course. The ventral vessel system, on the other hand, which mainly supplies the limbs, differs significantly between the taxa, with pagurids displaying the plesiomorphic condition. The pattern of the ventral vessel system in Lithodidae is influenced by morphological transformations of integumental structures during carcinization. One of these transformations was the broadening of the sternites, which resulted in a widening of the space between the endosternites. In addition, changes in the morphology of the endophragmal skeleton in Lithodidae led to an increase in the potential for intraspecific variability and interspecific variation in the arterial branching pattern. The intentional introduction of a species for the enhancement of stock or establishment of new fisheries, often has unforeseen effects. The red king crabs, Paralithodes camtschaticus, which was introduced into the Barents Sea by Russian scientists, has established a self-sustaining population that has expanded into Norwegian waters. As top benthic predators, the introduced red king crabs may have possible effects upon native epifaunal scallop (Chlamys islandica) communities. These benthic communities may be a source of prey species in late spring, when the red king crabs feed most intensively. Foraging rates (consumption, killing or severely damaging) of red king crab on native prey organisms were measured by factorial manipulation of crab density (0.5, 1.5 and 3 per m 2), size classes (immature, small mature, and large mature crabs), and by evaluating prey consumption after 48 h, in order to extrapolate a scenario of the likely impacts. Foraging rates of the red king crab on scallops ranged between 150 and 335 g per m2 within 48 h. These rates did not change when crab density was altered, though an increased amount of crushed scallops left uneaten at the tank floor, were correlated with high density of small mature crabs. Foraging rate changed significantly with crab size. Consequently, the susceptibility of native, shallow water epibenthic communities to red king crab predation in the early life history stages, and during the post-mating/molting spring period, must be considered significant when foraging rates are contrasted with natural scallop biomass between 400 and 1200 g scallops per m2.  相似文献
