A population of Himantoglossum hircinum (L.) Spreng. (lizard orchid) has been monitored since the 1940s at a site in the south-east of Great Britain. A map of the site showing the number and position of flowering plants has been produced in most summers between 1978 and 1994. The maps have been digitized on a 25 times 25 m scale. In the summer of 1995 the whole site was surveyed for habitat suitable for the growth of the orchid and this information was also digitized on to the 25 m grid. The spread of H. hircinum around the site can now be demonstrated with a program, SCATTER. Population biology parameters for SCATTER have been calculated from data from two permanent 10 times 10 m plots. These data were collected annually between 1987 and 1994, and give information on the size and position of all H. hircinum plants within the plots. Two dispersal models were employed and compared with SCATTER. The first was a diffusion model and the second a tilted plume model. The tilted plume model describes the expansion of the population of H. hircinum and also the number of flowering plants in the population more satisfactorily than the diffusion model. 相似文献

In Britain, where it reaches the north-westerly limit of its European distribution, Orchis militaris L. is extremely rare. Well-established and persistent populations of O. militaris are known to exist at only two sites. The largest extant population of O. militaris occurs in a disused chalk pit in Suffolk. A preliminary demographic analysis of this population, covering the period 1975 to 1991, along with estimates of key life stage transition probabilities are presented here. From 1975 to 1986 the number of separate identifiable plants in the population declined substantially. Until 1986 recruitment of rosettes was poor. The largest cohort of new plants, recorded in 1976, was 35. Approximately 48% of new individuals recruited between 1976 and 1985 failed to flower. Of those flowering, approximately 55% flowered during their first year above ground. Of the original population recorded in 1975, 67.8% flowered at least once during the study. The reproductive performance, i.e. the frequency of flowering and the period between episodes of flowering, varied considerably between individuals. Some plants flowered every year while others only flowered once during the study. Few plants remained below ground for more than one year, while several apparently persisted below ground for more than 6 successive years. Although the number of plants that can be identified as separate individuals has declined, the total number of rosettes in the population has, from 1986, increased dramatically. Because of the dense clumping of these recruits it is not possible to determine whether they are derived from seed or vegetative propagation. When post 1986 recruitment is combined with the number of plants that established before 1986 and survive, the apparent number of plants present at the site has more than doubled between 1975 and1991. 相似文献

Abstract The paucity of information on the moulds in Indian pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) led to the studies that were conducted at ICRISAT, India to evaluate (a) 447 germplasm accessions of 32 countries for mould reaction in rainy season, (b) threshed grain mould rating (TGMS) and mycoflora on grains of each accession, and (c) mould scores in field and in vitro. Post physiological maturity evaluation showed that 16% of the accessions secured a mould rating of 2. In TGMS, 18% were mould free and 57% secured a rating of 2 on a 1 – 9 scale. Assessment of twenty representative accessions in vitro against individual and mixed conidial suspensions (1 × 10(6) conidia ml(?1)) of Fusarium moniliforme, F. pallidoroseum and Curvularia pennisetti indicated significant correlation (r = 0.97) between the overall field and in vitro scores of mixed spores inoculations. The mycoflora for TGMS in blotter test revealed that Fusarium moniliforme, F. pallidoroseum, Curvularia pennisetti, Helminthosporium spp., Alternaria spp. and Colletotrichum spp. to be the major fungi affecting pearl millet grain. It is advisable to harvest panicles at the physiological maturity stage to obtain better quality grains. A strong negative correlation between TGMS and % GS (r = 0.4601) and positive correlation between TGMS and % UGS (r = 0.4654) indicated that, the lesser the threshed grain mould rating higher the % seed germination. 相似文献

Population dynamics of the Oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) (Diptera: Tephritidae), were monitored year‐round using methyl eugenol‐baited traps in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 in Baoshanba, Yunnan Province, China. Environmental factors including air temperature, rainfall and host‐plant species were analyzed with respect to the population dynamics. This species occurred only during April–November, with one yearly peak in August. The population fluctuation patterns with respect to season were identical in all study years. Correlation analysis and stepwise regression analysis indicated that air temperature, rainfall, sunlight hours and relative humidity were the major climatic factors that correlated with changes in the size of the fly population, and that monthly mean temperature, monthly sunlight hours and monthly relative humidity were most important. The seasonal increase in population size coincided with the fruiting period of the fly's host plants, but host fruit availability influenced the population size only when temperatures were sufficiently high. Cold temperatures may explain why there was no trap capture in the winter months. We believe that air temperature is the key factor explaining the seasonal occurrence of the fly population at Baoshanba. 相似文献

Callus cultures were established from immature embryos of Calotropis gigantea (Linn.) R. Br. on a modified basal medium of Murashige & Skoog supplemented with 1 mgl-1 2,4-D. In addition to 0.1 mgl-1 of NAA the optimal BAP concentration for promoting shoot bud formation and growth was 2 mgl-1. 通过水稻幼穗培养,1991-1992两年间,在5个品种(珍汕97B、红源A、包源A、W6154s,和南广占)中共获得了50株雄性不育变异株,其中R_1代有48株,R_2代有2株。在R1代,共获得5268株再生植株,雄性不育变异的平均频率为0.91%(0.83-1.08%);在R_2代(珍汕97B)发生雄性不育变异的频率为2%。本文报道了多种花粉败育类型之间可以相互转变现象,此外不育和可育之间亦可以相互转变。对离体培养产生的雄性不育变异株用一批现有CMS(Cytoplasmicmalesterile)不育系的典型保持系、恢复系进行测交,结果表明,W6154s产生的雄性育性变异株仍保持核不育的特性;红源A产生的雄性育性变异株有的可能是嵌合体,有的其败育花粉类型虽发生了变化,但其恢保关系并没有改变,有的则可能已转成类似WA型的不育材料;南广占产生的典败变异株,其恢保关系类似WA型,可能属核不育转成CMS的首例发现。 相似文献

Annual monitoring of the population dynamics of the oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) (Diptera: Tephritidae) using methyl eugenol-baited traps was conducted throughout the year during 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2004 in Ruili, Yunnan Province, China. Temperature, rainfall and host-plant species were analyzed with respect to population fluctuation of the fly. During the study periods the fruit fly occurred throughout the year. Its population remained low from November to January and increased steadily from February until it reached a peak in June. Afterwards, the population declined until October. The results of stepwise regression analysis indicated that monthly mean temperature, monthly mean maximum temperature, monthly mean minimum temperature, monthly extreme maximum temperature, monthly extreme minimum temperature, and monthly raining days were the major climatic factors influencing populations. Path and decision coefficient analyses indicated that the monthly mean temperature was the crucial factor influencing population fluctuation, the monthly mean minimum temperature was the crucial limiting factor indirectly influencing increase in population, and the comprehensive factors influencing fly population dynamics, namely, the monthly raining days were the strongest of all the other factors. Generally, the monthly mean temperatures fell within the ranges of temperatures suitable for development and reproduction of the fly. But the monthly mean minimum temperatures from November to January seemed to be lower and were suggested to be responsible for the low populations in this period. Monthly rainfall and rainy days steadily increased from February through June, and this explained the increase in population observed during this period. During periods of continuous heavy rain from July through August, the fruit fly population showed a remarkable decrease. Host plant species was another essential factor influencing the population fluctuations. Abundant fruit and melon species formed the food and breeding materials for the fly during the study periods. 相似文献

马鞍藤(Ipomoea pes-caprae(L.)R. Br.)是甘薯的近缘野生种之一,为热带、亚热带海滩生长的多年生藤蔓植物,作为沿海地区的园林绿化植物之一,具有较强的耐盐性。马鞍藤基因组学的研究可为耐盐甘薯种质创制提供信息参考。本试验调查了马鞍藤基因组大小和特征概况,为后续全基因组精细图谱绘制打下基础。研究以已知基因组大小的三裂叶薯(Ipomoea triloba L.)为对照,运用流式细胞术对马鞍藤基因组大小进行初步预估;使用二代高通量测序技术(Illumina Hiseq2500)对马鞍藤基因组进行survey评估,测序深度30×,利用生物信息学方法估算马鞍藤GC含量(即鸟嘌呤和胞嘧啶所占比例)、杂合率、重复序列等基因组概况。结果表明:流式细胞术估算马鞍藤基因组大小为1012.704±17.37 Mb;经全基因组Survey测定获得马鞍藤有效数据为21.71 Gb,基因组大小经修正后估算为1041.65 Mbp;通过K-mer分布曲线估算马鞍藤基因组中重复序列所占比率为74.52%,杂合率为0.99%;经初步组装后,GC平均深度及含量分布存在异常,出现分层的现象,这可能与马鞍藤基因组杂合率较高有关。本试验首次报导甘薯属耐盐植物马鞍藤基因组大小及特征信息,为马鞍藤进一步的全基因组深度测序和甘薯耐盐基因挖掘打下基础。 相似文献

Decomposition and nitrogen dynamics of fine roots of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) at different sites 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Long-term decomposition and nitrogen dynamics of Norway spruce finest (<1 mm in diameter) and fine (<2 mm in diameter) roots were estimated using the root litter-bag techniques. The seasonal decomposition of the finest roots was investigated in a 40-year-old high site quality stand grown on brown lessive soil at different depths as part of productivity studies. The fine root decomposition studies were conducted on 8 permanent plots in the Estonia with the aim to describe the site variation. The initial material was collected from one of stands (high quality site) and incubated at the depth of 10 cm in 1989 (at one site 1990). The bags were collected once or twice a year except for one site, where the seasonal dynamics was investigated. In all initial and decomposing root samples oven-dry weight, ash and energy content and nitrogen concentration was determined. After five years the finest roots had lost 40% of their initial dry weight, half of it during the first year. The initial concentration of nitrogen was 1.29%, the mean concentrations varied during the incubation from 1.47 to 1.78%. After the first year fine roots had lost 21.0 to 32.7% of their initial dry weight, after two years the weight loss was 22.5 to 43.2%. The initial N concentration in fine roots was 0.73% and in the first years it varied from 0.97 to 1.40% at different sites. 相似文献

This study compared the behaviour of six autochthonous pear millet ecotypes collected through the Tunisian territory under salt stress from germination to maturity. It showed that salt has little effect on germination rate and coleoptile emergence. However, this effect is more significant for radicular growth and between ecotypes. Salinity did not influence plant height, which seems to be a varietal characteristic, but revealed a positive effect on the foliar expansion. On the productivity level, salinity did not exert a prejudicial effect over the length of the principal candle, but improved the yield component. This adaptation to salinity is mainly due to its root system. This effect varied according to stress intensity and ecotype. Vegetative growth and yield of high-straw ecotypes was decreased by severe salinity, while ecotypes with low or medium height appear very stable on the productivity level. Such ecotypes can play an important role in the conservation and development of fragile grounds, and also be useful as a source of desirable genes for genetic improvement in salinity conditions. 相似文献

Elevated UV-B radiation (12.2 kJ m–2 d–1) as against the ambient level of 10 kJ m–2 d–1 affected flowering, productivity and biomass partitioning of green gram [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek cv. KM-2]. UV-B stress delayed flowering initiation and achievement of 50 % flowering, reduced flower retention by 25 %, potential yield by 18 % and all yield attributes such as pod number (25 %), pod mass (41 %), seed number (32 %) and seed mass (45 %). Harvest index and shelling percentage were also reduced by 31 and 7 %, respectively. Application of triadimefon (20 mg dm–3) to unstressed plants accelerated flowering and enhanced flower retention (21 %), potential yield (15 %) and yield attributes (7 to 44 %). The partitioning of biomass between plant parts also showed improvement over the control plants. In UV-B-stressed plants, triadimefon treatment compensated the inhibitions to varying extents. 相似文献

Transient GUS (-glucuronidase) expression was visualized in whole and sectioned embryos of Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br. (pearl millet) after microprojectile bombardment with pMON 8678 DNA. Strongest GUS expression occurred in cells located in the center of GUS positive spots with decreasing intensity in surrounding cells. GUS positive cells could be seen up to 12 cell layers beneath the epidermis. Needle-like crystals of the GUS assay product were found throughout the cytoplasm of GUS positive cells. The number of GUS positive spots was correlated to the microprojectile spread pattern on the medium surface. Shorter bombardment distances (6.6 and 9.8 cm) and the standard accelerator speed gave the best results for transient expression but also caused maximum tissue damage. The speed and distance, however, had little influence on the ability of bombarded embryos to form compact callus. The developmental stage of the bombarded immature embryos was the determining factor in the formation of compact callus, from which plants were regenerated. 相似文献

Abstract: In plants, the developmental dynamics of telomere length have only been studied in a few species to date. Contrasting results have been reported. To search for the pattern(s) operating in plants, a study of the telomere length was made in pearl millet. Telomere length in cells representing different developmental stages: a) embryo, b) leaves of 1-week-old seedlings, 1-month-old plants and boot leaf and c) germ cells (pollen) were compared. The presence of the consensus plant telomere repeat sequence (5'-TTTAGGG-3') in pearl millet telomeres was first ascertained; the sensitivity of the sequences hybridizing with (TTTAGGG)4 oligonucleotide to time course Bal 31 exonuclease digestions were studied on dot blots and gel blots. The exonuclease digestion kinetics revealed the presence of the consensus telomere repeat sequence in pearl millet telomeres. The average telomere length (ATL) was measured from autoradiograms of Hae III digested DNA, hybridized with labelled (5'-TTTAGGG-3')4 oligonucleotide using "UVI band" software. No significant difference in the average telomere length was observed between the embryo, leaves of 1-week-old seedlings, boot leaf and pollen. The ATL in leaves of 1-month-old plants was slightly higher. The results of the present investigation and analysis of the reports in the other plants suggest that there is an occasional increase in telomere length in some telomeres but no significant decrease due to loss during DNA replication. 相似文献

Two Dutch heathland sites Hoorneboeg (HB) and Ede, dominated by Deschampsia flexuosa and differing in nitrate production, were sampled for an entire growing season. A large number of soil and plant parameters were monitored in an attempt to assess the contribution of nitrate in the N supply and its assimilation by Deschampsia.Average NO3
– and NH4
+ concentrations (mg kg–1) in the top 10-cm depth were 0.03 and 2.2, respectively, for HB, and 2.1 and 6.7, respectively, for Ede. Laboratory incubations of intact cores and experiments with FH-layer suspensions showed significantly higher mineralization and nitrification rates for the Ede site during most of the season. Nitrification was largely controlled by the rate of net N-mineralization, which in turn was highly affected by soil moisture. Nitrate production was virtually zero at HB and accounted for 25% of the net N-mineralization at Ede.Shoot chemical composition showed no essential differences for the two sites, but mean in vivo (current) foliar NRA was almost 2-fold higher at Ede than at HB, indicating some utilization of nitrate at the former location. At the HB site with essentially no nitrate production, however, enzyme activities were clearly higher than basal constitutive levels in NH4
+-fed plants. Apparently, shoot NRA at the HB site became positively affected by factors other than nitrate availability and/or showed disproportional increases in response to atmospheric nitrate inputs. Root NRA displayed the same low basal level at the two sites. Nitrate fertilization (100 kg N ha–1) yielded maximally induced foliar NRAs similar to levels found in hydroponic nitrate plants. Although no accumulation of free NO3
– was observed in shoots from fertilized plots, increases in foliar concentrations of both organic N and carboxylates clearly indicated nitrate assimilation. Root NRA showed no response to nitrate addition.It is concluded that current NRA measurements in Deschampsia at heathland sites are of limited value only, especially when interpreted in isolation. Five simple and rapid methods for evaluation of sorghum and pearl millet transgenics resistant to herbicide phosphinothricin (used as selectable marker) were studied. For rapid in vitro selection, three assays (establishment of sensitivity curves for embryogenic calli, determination of lethal doses for seed germination, and a rapid screening of cut young leaves based on the colour change of the medium) were established. For rapid screening of transgenic progeny, effects of in vivo Basta leaf spray and dip tests were studied at three different morphological stages. For all the above assays, LD50, and LD100 values were higher for pearl millet than sorghum. However, in both the crops, genotype effect was not significant. The assays standardized in the study were found to be effective for rapid, economical and mass-scale identification and characterization of transgenic plants of sorghum and pearl millet. 相似文献
