Summary In the present paper the Author has described three new genera ofPteromalidae, two new species of the genusEnaysma Del. and one of the genusEpilampsis Del. (Euloph. Entedontinae). The first Pteromalid genus,Stenoselma, is closely related to the well knownAnisopteromalus Ruschka; the second new genus,Apelioma, has been proposed forDinotiscus (Dinotus) pteromalinus Thomson; the third,Aggelma, has been described for the new speciesabdominalis, collected in Central Europe onPinus montana. Summary A strain ofHaplosporangium parvum has been isolated from Italian soil. It has been comparatively studied with six North American and a Korean strain. Two American and the Italian strains are thermophilic (opt. about 35° C) while the other four grow better at temperatures around 20° C.The assimilation of nitrogen sources has been comparatively studied. In addition to peptoneH. parvum metabolizes urea and most aminoacids, whileH. bisporale assimilates peptone, leucine, alanine, glutamic acid and proline only. On the basis of N assimilation and thermophily, a key of the studied strain is established.A comparison ofH. bisporale withH. parvum, confirmed that the former species is a Phycomycete, while the latter is a Moniliaceous, aleuriosporic fungus. All the strains are feebly pathogenic, but the virulence of the Italian soil isolate is equal to that of the most virulent strains isolated from animal lungs (Alberta, Canada).The taxonomy ofH. parvum has been studied in relation to the more or less allied generaAleurisma, Glenosporella, Geomyces andStaphylotrichum.It is concluded thatH. parvum may be better classified as a new genus, and the monotypic genusEmmonsia withE. parva (Emm. etAshb.) n. comb. is proposed, although the entire group of aleuriosporaceous fungi needs revision.  相似文献

Summary The stability in the soil of a new penicillin (methicillin) which is resistant to staphylococcal penicillinase, has been investigated. The results revealed its inactivation in both sterile and non-sterile soils of p H 7.4–7.6, with indication of biological inactivation in the latter.Three strains identified as Pseudomonas spp., were isolated by enrichment technique from the soil, and were found able to inactivate methicillin through production of an exocellular enzyme destructable at 90°C. Such an enzyme proved to be a type of penicillinase that inactivated benzyl penicillin more actively than methicillin.  相似文献

Summary Human fibrin film has been used as an additional substratum to trap zoosporic fungi in watered soil samples. This semi-transparent film is prepared from human plasma proteins by fractionation and is used as a substitute in dural surgery.Three new species ofRhizophlyctis, R. lovetti, R. fuscis, andR. hirsutus, as well asPhlyctorhiza variabilis and numerous other water molds have been trapped on this substratum in watered soil samples from India.This study has been supported by the U. S. Program in Biology, International Indian Ocean Expedition, and conducted at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Mandapam Camp, Madras State. I am very grateful to Dr.S. Summary A new variety of Gloeocapsa, G. crepidinum Thuret var. ghazipurensis n. var., has been isolated from enrichment cultures of paddy field soils of Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, India. The alga has been studied in detail. The form is especially interesting since it showed certain growth-stages recorded in G. alpina Naeg.The authors are thankful to Rev. Dr. H. Summary The soil fungi from an agricultural field in Allahabad where sugarcane is being grown for many years, have been isolated from various depths during different seasons and were identified. The inter-relations of chemical composition of soil and distribution of fungi is also being shown here.The techniques for the isolation and the study of the fungus flora was that ofGoddard modified bySaksena &Mehrotra. Soil samples were examined from 1–6 depths in three seasons of the year and were mechanically and chemically analysed.For the isolation, soil dilution plate method, a modification ofMenzies' method, direct method ofWaksman, Rossi Cholodny Burried slide technique, and screened immersion plate method, were followed Fifty five different species of microfungi belonging to Phycomycetes, Ascomycetes and Fungi — Imperfecti were isolated and identified. The moisture contents, hydrogen-ion concentrations, carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and iron, etc., of the soil samples from 1–6 inches depths, were also studied.Out of these 12 species covering 9 genera belonged to the Phycomycetes, nine genera of Ascomycetes and nine genera of Fungi Imperfecti were recorded.P. multicolor Grigorieva-Monoilova &Poradielova, andP. roqueforti Thom.,Gliocladium vermoesoni (Biourge)Thom. andMasoniella grisea (Smith)Smith were recorded for the first time from Indian Soil. We report a model system for plasmid transfer analysis using the regulated lambda phage right promoter, λPr, fused to luc and lucOR as repoter genes. We have demonstrated that the systems cI857-λPr::luc and cI857-λPr::lucOR are temperature-inducible in Escherichia coli but not in other Gram-negative bacteria analyzed, enabling detection of luminescence when plasmids were mobilized from E. coli to those Gram-negative backgrounds. Using light for the detection, we have observed plasmid transfer from E. coli harboring RK2 and R388 derived plasmids to Pseudomonas putida KT2440 (co-introduced with donors) and to indigenous microorganisms, in vitro and in nonsterile soil microcosms. The importance of nutrients for an efficient plasmid transfer in nonsterile soil microcosms has been confirmed. When plasmid transfer experiments were carried out into nonsterile soil microcosms, significant populations of indigenous transconjugants arose. This system provides efficient marker genes and avoids the use of antibiotics for the selection of transconjugants.  相似文献

Summary The namePseudoeurotium globosum Rai andTewari n. sp. has been given to a fungus isolated from soil collected from the banks of a stream in village Harchandpur, District Rae Bareli, (U.P.) India. This form is distinguished from any other described so far in this genus, in having multisporous asci with large globose ascospores. P.globosum n. sp. inhabits a specialised habitat, and this along with the fact that it was isolated only byWarcup's Soil-plate Method, makes it an ecologically interesting form.  相似文献

A gram-positive, mesophilic bacterium which assimilated l-phenylalanine but which failed to utilise l-tyrosine was isolated from soil. The isolate, identified as a strain of Bacillus carotarum, converted l-phenylalanine to phenylpyruvate with the initial step catalysed by an inducible, intracellular enzyme which possessed l-phenylalanine oxidase activity. Phenylalanine oxidase has not been previously reported in Gram-positive bacteria, although there are a few examples of non-specific l-amino acid oxidases with activity towards l-phenylalanine. The isolate grew abundantly on complex media but failed to synthesise significant amounts of the enzyme in the absence of l-phenylalanine. The highest enzyme levels were achieved in a chemically defined minimal salts medium containing the amino acid at 10 g/l as the primary carbon and energy source.  相似文献

Summary The genusDactylococcopsis Hansg. 1888 (Cyanophyceae) is based on the typeD. rupestris, which was later identified as a green algae. Most of the many species described later were also placed to other groups of algae. Several authors even doubted about the existence of the genus. As, however, some species of Cyanophyceae correspond to the original generic diagnosis, the name Dactylococcopsis Hansg. ex R. et F.Chod. 1925 has been proposed as a nomen conservandum, and a new type (D. smithii R. et F.Chod.) has been defined. Further speciesD. linearis Geitl. 1935 and D.Planctonica Teil. 1942 has been unambiguously described till now.  相似文献

Plants have the ability to take up organic nitrogen (N) but this has not been thoroughly studied in agricultural plants. A critical question is whether agricultural plants can acquire amino acids in a soil ecosystem. The aim of this study was to characterize amino acid uptake capacity in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) from a mixture of amino acids at concentrations relevant to field conditions. Amino acids in soil solution under barley were collected in microlysimeters. The recorded amino acid composition, 0–8.2 μM of l-Serine, l-Glutamic acid, Glycine, l-Arginine and l-Alanine, was then used as a template for uptake studies in hydroponically grown barley plants. Amino acid uptake during 2 h was studied at initial concentrations of 2–25 μM amino acids and recorded as amino acid disappearance from the incubation solution, analysed with HPLC. The uptake was verified in control experiments using several other techniques. Uptake of all five amino acids occurred at 2 μM and below. The concentration dependency of the uptake rate could be described by Michaelis–Menten kinetics. The affinity constant (K m) was in the range 19.6–33.2 μM. These K m values are comparable to reported values for soil micro-organisms.  相似文献

Summary A new protocol has been developed for the highly efficient somatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration of 10 recalcitrant Chinese cotton cultivars. Calluses and embryogenic calluses were induced on MSB1 medium containing the optimal combination of indolebutyric acid (IBA; 2.46 μM) and kinetin (KT; 2.32 μM). Up to 86.7% of embryogenic calluses differentiated into globular somatic embryos 2 mo. after culture on MSB2 medium containing double KNO3 and free of growth regultors. Up to 38.3% of the somatic embryos were converted into complete plants in 8 wk on MSB3 medium with l-asparagine (Asn)/l-glutamine (Gln) (7.6/13.6 mM). The plants were successfully transferred to soil and grew to maturity. With the protocol described here, we have obtained hundreds of regenerating plantlets from 10 recalcitrant cultivars, which is important for the application of tissue culture to cotton breeding and biotechnology.  相似文献

Using the Braun-Blanquet approach, five associations of boreal forests were distinguished in central Yakutia, the most continental part of eastern Siberia. Ecological features of the syntaxa were explained with the use of the DCA ordination of 50 relevés. All available data from eastern Siberia were involved in the study for syntaxonomic analysis. Central Yakutian boreal forests were classified into two classes:Rhytidio-Laricetea sibiricae Korotkov etErmakov 1999 — ultracontinental light coniferous hemiboreal forests, andVaccinio-Piceetea Br.-Bl. inBr.-Bl. et al. 1939 — typical coniferous taiga forests of northern Eurasia. A new concept of higher syntaxonomic units of the classVaccinio-Piceetea in eastern Siberia has been developed. Three orders represent the diversity of taiga forests: (1)Cladonio-Vaccinietalia Kielland-Lund 1967 (with alliancesHieracio umbellati-Pinion sylvestris Anenkhonov etChytry 1998 andSaxifrago bronchialis-Pinion sylvestris all. nov.) — light coniferous boreal forests occurring in dry and moderately dry oligotrophic sites in various climatic sectors of Northern Eurasia; (2)Lathyro humilis-Laricetalia cajanderi ord. nov. (with alliancesAulacomnio acuminati-Laricion cajanderi all. nov. andRhododendro daurici-Laricion gmelinii all. nov.) — zonal boreal forests with xeric elements, which are typical of regions of northern Asia with cold, dry ultracontinental climate; (3)Ledo-Laricetalia cajanderi ord. prov. (with allianceLedo-Laricion cajanderi prov.) — North Eurasian boreal forests occurring in cold sites with excessive soil moisture, sometimes water-logged. Phytogeography and ecology of these orders are discussed in comparison with other regions of northern Asia.  相似文献

Summary P. symploci Pat. is a new record to India andP. dalbergiae Niessl. a new addition to the Fungi of Bombay.
