Studies on the reproduction, longevity and life table parameters of Iphiseius degenerans (Berlese) were carried out under laboratory conditions of 25 ± 1 °C, 75 ± 5% RH and 16L:8D h. As food sources for the predatory mite, Ricinus communis L. pollen, all stages of the spider mite Tetranychus urticae Koch, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) larvae, and Ephestia kuehniella Zeller eggs were selected. All diets were accepted as food by the adult mites. Female longevity ranged from 29.5 to 42.4 days, the highest value was recorded on a diet of Ephestia eggs. The highest percentage of females escaping the experimental arena was observed on the diet consisting of thrips larvae. The highest oviposition rate (1.9 eggs/female.day) was recorded when the predator was fed on spider mites on an artificial substrate. For other diets, oviposition rates ranged from 1.0 to 1.3 eggs/female.day. The intrinsic rate of natural increase (r m) of I. degenerans varied between 0.015 and 0.142 females/female.day. The diet consisting of castor bean pollen resulted in the highest population growth whereas the diet on spider mites brushed off onto a bean leaf arena resulted in the slowest population growth. This can be explained by the inability of the predator to cope with the webbing of T. urticae, and the high escape rate of the progeny when reared on spider mites. Development and reproduction of the predatory mite Parasitus consanguineus Oudemans et Voigts (Acari: Parasitidae) reared on a diet of first and second instars of Megaselia halterata (Diptera: Phoridae) or Lycoriella ingenua (Diptera: Sciaridae) were studied. Mites were allowed to feed on these diets until death. The developmental time of immature stages of P. consanguineus was significantly longer when reared on L. ingenua than on M. halterata larvae (8.3 vs. 7.9 days, respectively). Survival to adulthood of P. consanguineus reared on L. ingenua or M. halterata larvae was 63 and 49%, and mite fecundity was 17.8 and 12.3 eggs/female, respectively. Adult females reared on L. ingenua lived on average 6.9 days, whereas those reared on M. halterata lived for 5.7 days. Mite survival, female longevity and fecundity were significantly different among the two diet types.  相似文献

The effects of cassava exudate and prey densities on reproduction and survival of the predatory mite, Typhlodromalus limonicus (Garman & McGregor) (Acari: Phytoseiidae), were investigated in the laboratory. Females were provided either cassava exudate ad lib. daily, low or high numbers of the cassava green mite prey, Mononychellus tanajoa (Bondar) (Acari: Tetranychidae) daily, or exudate for 5 or 10 days before switching to a low or high prey diet. Females fed only exudate laid no eggs. Females fed exudate before prey experienced a significant decrease (30%) in the number of eggs laid compared to females fed high numbers of prey daily. The reduction in fecundity was the result of prolonged preoviposition periods (2.0 days on prey daily vs 4.0 days on exudate before prey) and reduced number of eggs laid per female per day (1.7 eggs per female per day on prey daily vs 0.4 eggs per female per day on exudate before prey). Females fed only exudate had a greater survival rate and longevity than females fed prey daily or females fed exudate before a diet of prey. These results suggest that T. limonicus can survice for a limited period on cassava exudate during periods of low prey availability, but requires prey to complete oögenesis and propagate the population.  相似文献

The acaricidal mycopathogen Hirsutella thompsonii has been found to secrete metabolites that are active against femaleTetranychus urticae. Specifically, the rose-colored exudate produced on sporulating cultures of Mexican HtM120I strain sterilized female spider mites in a dose-dependent fashion. Topical application of the exudate resulted in a 100% reduction in mite fecundity over the initial six days of experimentation. Depending upon the exudate dosage, mites partially recovered within 3 and 6 d post-treatment and produced a limited number of eggs. The spider mite active HtM120I exudate contained less detectable HtA toxin than the HtM120I broth filtrate, and it was innocuous when injected into the greater wax moth Galleria mellonella L. larvae. Broth filtrates of HtM120I cultures, although toxic to assayed G. mellonella larvae, did not inhibit mite oviposition to the degree or duration of the exudate preparations. These findings suggest that the factor responsible for suppressing oviposition in female spider mites is linked to the sporulation process and is distinct from the well-characterized HtA produced by vegetative cells. The effects of two diets, i.e., cowpea leaves plus Megalurothrips sjostedti larvae versus cowpea leaves alone, on nymphal development and mortality of Orius albidipennis were studied under controlled laboratory conditions in Benin, West Africa. Nymphal development was longer when O. albidipennis was fed with cowpea leaves only, compared to the diet complemented with M. sjostedti larvae (17.6 days versus 14.8, respectively). Nymphal mortality was very high (78.6%) if fed with cowpea leaves only, and still relatively high if the diet was complemented with thrips larvae (44.4%).In a separate study on the longevity and fecundity of O. albidipennis adult females feeding on M. sjostedtilarvae, an average of 6.8 eggs per day (maximum 16 eggs) and a mean total fecundity of 61.1 eggs were observed. The females lived on average 13.5 days.Finally, observations on the predation by O. albidipennis adults on three different thrips species revealed that M. sjostedti larvae were killed at a lower rate than larvae of Ceratothripoides cameroni and Frankliniella schultzei. Higher predation rates were measured using unmated females and males than in mated females. However, the rate of first attack, measured as first larva attacked in dual-choice assays, was higher for M. sjostedti when a F. schultzei larva was offered simultaneously, and not different when a C. cameroni or Sericothrips adolfifridericilarva was offered.The results of this study are discussed with regard to the lack of efficacy of O. albidipennis as biological control agent for M. sjostedti.  相似文献

The life history and demography of Amblyseius longispinosus Evans were studied under laboratory conditions 25–28°C and 65–85% RH using the red form of the twospotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch complex as prey. The entire development from egg to adult averaged 102.5 h for both sexes with a survival rate of 90.0%. Immature females consumed more prey eggs than males, averaging 7.9 and 6.4 eggs/day, respectively. The embryonic development time for male eggs was longer (average 45.2 h) than for female eggs (average 42.6 h). The average duration of succeeding stages did not differ between the sexes: larva, 15.7; protonymph, 21.1; and deutonymph, 23.0 h. Larvae were not observed to feed. Statistically significant differences between sexes were noted with respect to consumption of the deutonymphs (female, average 4.0±0.2; male, average 2.9±0.3 eggs/day) but not of the protonymphs. Mating occurred on the same day as adult emergence and was repeated several times during the reproductive life. Egg laying started on the second day after emergence. Parameters relating to oviposition were: fecundity, gross (50.7) and net (43.3) eggs/female; hatchability, 99.6% (gross) and 99.5% (net); the oviposition lasted at most 28 days and showed a peak in the first week. Net reproductive rate (R0) was 36.7 female offspring/female/generation time (T) of 9.0 days. The sex ratio was biased toward the females (71.9%), while the intrinsic rate of increase (rm) was 0.4 with a doubling time (DT) of 1.7 days. Males lived longer (36 days) than females (30 days) with a LT50 for males of 26 days and for females of 22 days.  相似文献

The predatory mite Iphiseius degenerans (Berlese) is commercially available as a biological control agent of thrips and spider mites in greenhouse crops. Developmental duration and immature survival of I. degeneransreared on nine types of food (almond pollen, apple pollen, castor bean pollen, plum pollen, sweet pepper pollen, Tetranychus urticaeKoch, Frankliniella occidentalis(Pergande), Ephestia kuehniella Zeller eggs and Artemia franciscana Kellogg cysts) and on three substrates (Multicel, sweet pepper leaf, and bean leaf) were determined in the laboratory. All experiments were carried out at 25 °C. On Multicel, mean developmental times on pollen ranged from 6.0 to 7.1 days, with the lowest value recorded on almond pollen and the highest on sweet pepper pollen. When reared on castor bean pollen significantly longer developmental times were obtained on a sweet pepper leaf compared to a bean leaf or Multicel. Developmental duration when offered T. urticaeon Multicel ranged between 6.1 and 6.9 days, on a bean leaf development was completed in 8.0 days. The longest developmental times on Multicel were recorded on Ephestia eggs (7.0 days) and on decapsulated Artemia cysts (7.5 days). No development beyond the protonymphal stage occurred in the absence of food or when encapsulated Artemia cysts or thrips larvae were offered on Multicel. On a sweet pepper leaf and a bean leaf, respectively 6.7 and 10.0% of the eggs reached adulthood when thrips larvae were provided as food; developmental times recorded here, were 9.0 and 8.3 days. Overall, immature mortality occurred mainly in the protonymphal stage and ranged from 0.0 to 36.7%. In conclusion, I. degenerans is able to feed on a variety of natural and unnatural foods, but thrips larvae and sweet pepper pollen are unfavourable food for immature development. This could compromise the establishment of this biological control agent when used against thrips in sweet pepper crops.  相似文献

A leaf disc bioassay was employed to examine the effects of temperature and predator age on functional response of an acarophagous thrips, Scolothrips takahashii Priesner, to hawthorn spider mite, Tetranychus viennensis Zacher, in the laboratory. The results indicated that the predatory thrips exhibited type-II functional responses against the mites under various temperatures, and that females are more voracious than males. Analysis showed that temperature had significant effects on the predatory capacity of adult thrips over the range of 20–35 °C. Attack rate in females linearly increased with temperature while in males it was independent of temperature. Handling times in both males and females decreased linearly with increasing temperature. Extended response models describing the functional response with temperature incorporated as a parameter were developed, yielding an estimated maximum numbers of prey attacked at four temperatures were 38.38, 55.06, 71.74 and 88.42 eggs per day for females, and 15.11, 26.11, 37.11 and 48.01 eggs per day for males, respectively. The age of predator affected both the type of the functional response shown and the magnitude of predation by S.␣takahashii on the spider mite. Females of various ages exhibited Type-II functional responses with similar attack rates, but handling time prolonged linearly as age increased: the handling times in 15- and 18-d-old females were significantly longer than in 6-d-old thrips. However, Type-I functional responses were determined for males aged 12 d or more; the maximum number of prey eaten in 24 h decreased as age increased. The implications of the results for the management of hawthorn spider mite are discussed.  相似文献

Larvae of the tephritid flyChaetorellia australis Hering, which infests flowerheads of the yellow starthistleCentaurea solstitialis L. (Asteraceae), and which is a candidate species for biological control, of that weed, were reared for the first time and for two consecutive generations on an artificial diet. At a density of 0.5 eggs per g diet a yield of 18.5% F1 adults (over hatched eggs), was obtained. When the density of eggs per g diet increased, the yield decreased. At 25°C the duration of development from egg to adult was 20–25 days for both generations. F1 adults reared on artificial diet had an average longevity of 32.0 days for males and 34.9 days for females. The fecundity was 53.3 eggs per female and the egg hatchability 88.8%. These and other biological parameters are similar to those of wild flies.   相似文献

The astigmatid mite Tyrophagus neiswanderi Johnston and Bruce is mainly considered a pest of ornamental and horticultural crops. However, this mite has been found infesting Cabrales cheese in Spain, though its population density is low compared to Acarus farris, the prevalent species of astigmatid mite encountered in Cabrales cheese maturing caves. One of the factors that might be influencing this differential abundance is temperature. In the present study the effect of temperature on reproductive parameters and longevity of T. neiswanderi was examined at six constant temperatures, ranging from 10 to 31°C, and a relative humidity of 90 ± 5%. Preoviposition period, fecundity and daily fecundity were adversely affected by extreme temperatures while the oviposition period increased as temperature was reduced. Male and female longevity increased as temperature decreased, but males showed significantly greater longevity than females. Additionally, this difference was greater as temperature decreased. The effect of temperature on the intrinsic rate of natural increase of T. neiswanderi populations was described by the non-linear Lactin model. The optimum temperature for development was predicted at 26.6°C. At this temperature, the population doubling time is 2.8 days. The lower and upper thresholds for T. neiswanderi populations were calculated at 7.4 and 31.7°C, respectively. According to these results, the influence of temperature on the low population density of this mite found in Cabrales maturing caves compared with A. farris is discussed.  相似文献

The eriophyoid mite Aceria guerreronis Keifer (Eriophyidae), commonly called the coconut mite, is a key pest of coconut fruits. Surveys conducted on coconut palms in Brazil revealed the predatory mites Neoseiulus paspalivorus DeLeon (Phytoseiidae) and Proctolaelaps bickleyi Bram (Ascidae) as the most commonly associated natural enemies of A. guerreronis on coconut fruits. However, virtually nothing is known about the life history of these two predators. We conducted laboratory experiments at 25 ± 0.1°C, 70–90% RH and 12:12 h L:D photoperiod to determine the life history characteristics of the two predatory mites when feeding on A. guerreronis and other potential food sources present on coconut fruits such as Steneotarsonemus furcatus DeLeon (Tarsonemidae), coconut pollen and the fungus Rhizopus cf. stolonifer Lind (Mucoraceae). In addition, the two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae Koch (Tetranychidae) was tested for its suitability as prey. Both predators, N. paspalivorus and P. bickleyi, thrived on A. guerreronis as primary food source resulting in shorter developmental time (5.6 and 4.4 days, respectively), higher oviposition rate (1.7 and 7.0 eggs/female/day, respectively) and higher intrinsic rate of increase (0.232 and 0.489 per female/day, respectively) than on any other diet but were unable to develop or lay eggs when fed T. urticae. Coconut pollen and S. furcatus were adequate alternative food sources for N. paspalivorus and Rhizopus for P. bickleyi. We discuss the relevance of our findings for natural and biological control of the coconut mite A. guerreronis.  相似文献

Longevity and fecundity of pear psylla adults, Cacopsylla pyri (L.) (Homoptera: Psyllidae), were studied in Greece under field conditions, during 1991/92 and 1992/93. Net fecundity (mean fecundity of cohort) of the overwintered females (winter form) was low (24.1 and 43.4 eggs per female for 1991/92 and 1992/93 respectively) because only a small fraction of the females survive reproductive diapause. Surviving females, however, are capable of producing a relatively high number of eggs (135.0 and 151 9 eggs per female for the two seasons respectively). Net fecundity of summer form females was very high in spring (343.2 and 406.8 eggs per female for 1992 and 1993 respectively), relatively high in early autumn (130.4 and 192.5 eggs per female) and very low in summer (21.9 and 46.5 eggs per female). Male longevity was in all cases shorter than that of female. Longevity of both sexes of the summer form was higher in spring and autumn (for females it ranged from 22.3 to 28.4 days) than it was in summer (for females it ranged from 14.3 to 17.4 days).  相似文献

The relative toxicity of someacaricides to the predatory mite, Phytoseiulus persimilis and the twospottedspider mite, Tetranychus urticae (Acari: Phytoseiidae, Tetranychidae) wasevaluated in laboratory. Five of theacaricides tested, including bifenazate,acequinocyl, chlorfenapyr, flufenoxuron andfenbutatin oxide, were much less toxic to adultfemales and immatures of P. persimilisthan to those of T. urticae, and adultfemale predators treated with these fiveacaricides produced 84±96% as many eggs as didcontrol females. Etoxazole did not seriouslyaffect the survival and reproduction of adultfemale predators but caused high mortalityrates in eggs and larvae of P.persimilis. Milbemectin and fenazaquin werevery toxic to adult females and immatures ofP. persimilis. Adult female predatorssurvived on a diet of spider mites treated withbifenazate, acequinocyl, chlorfenapyr,flufenoxuron and fenbutatin oxide, and theirfecundity, prey consumption and the sex ratioof the progeny were not substantially affected. Based on the results, bifenazate, acequinocyl,chlorfenapyr, flufenoxuron and fenbutatin oxideappeared to be the promising candidates for usein integrated mite management programs whereP. persimilis is the major naturalenemy.  相似文献

Field studies in soybeans have demonstrated that the endemic predator, Orius insidiosus (Say), is an important natural enemy of the soybean aphid, Aphis glycines Matsumura. Soybean thrips, Neohydatothrips variabilis (Beach), serve as an important prey resource for O. insidiosus in soybeans and may be important in sustaining O. insidiosus populations before the arrival of soybean aphid. Because soybean aphid is new to the US soybean system, the effects of a mixed diet of soybean aphid and soybean thrips on O. insidiosus life history is not known. We measured the survival, development, and reproduction of O. insidiosus when fed soybean thrips, and a mixed prey diet of soybean aphids and soybean thrips, and compared these results to a previous study of O. insidiosus life history fed soybean aphid alone. Nymphal development to adulthood (15.9 days) and fecundity (68.8 eggs per female) was improved for O. insidiosus fed ad libitum soybean thrips daily compared to O. insidiosus fed ad libitum soybean aphids daily. The contribution of alternative prey to O. insidiosus life history characteristics can be complex depending on the amount and quality of a particular prey item. At low levels of prey, the addition of prey appears to enhance O. insidiosus survival, development, and fecundity. However, as predators are fed more often, the predator’s response depends on the type of prey that predominates in the mixed prey diet. We discuss soybean thrips impact on O. insidiosus population ecology and soybean aphid dynamics.  相似文献

The Spical strain of the predatory mite Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor) is used as a biological control agent, but little is known about its preferred prey and host plants in Japan. Here we studied the development, reproduction and prey consumption of the Spical strain when fed on eggs of five different spider mite species deposited on both their laboratory-rearing plant and cherry, on which all five spider mite species developed well. The developmental periods of immature N. californicus females and males were significantly affected by the prey species they fed on, but not by the plants. No difference was found between males and females. The developmental period was shorter on eggs of two Tetranychus species than on eggs of Panonychus ulmi. Immature females had a higher predation rate than immature males. Preoviposition period, oviposition period and the number of eggs laid per female were not significantly affected by either the plants or the type of prey eggs. The postoviposition period and total adult longevity were shorter on eggs of P. ulmi than of the other four prey species, but there was no effect of plant substrate. The postoviposition period of the Spical strain was much longer than that of other N. californicus strains or other predatory mite species: the postoviposition period of the Spical strain was more than three times longer than the oviposition period, accounting for more than 75% of the total adult longevity. This suggests that the females need multiple mating to reach full egg load, but this remains to be tested. Total consumption by N. californicus adults was lower for eggs of P. ulmi than for eggs of the other four species, apparently because of the shorter postoviposition period when fed on eggs of P. ulmi. The intrinsic rates of natural increase (r m) on the rearing plant did not differ among prey species, whereas those on cherry were significantly different: the value was higher on Tetranychus urticae eggs than on eggs of other species. Only when N. californicus fed on T. urticae eggs, the r m-values were significantly different between the rearing plant and cherry (higher on cherry). Thus, the Spical strain of N. californicus could feed on eggs of all five spider mite species, deposited on a variety of plants with similar r m-values, suggesting that it could be successfully used to control spider mites in orchards and various crop fields of Japan.  相似文献

The effects of protein-deprivation on the sexual activity and reproductive fitness of male onion flies, Delia antiqua (Meigen) (Diptera: Anthomyiidae), were investigated under laboratory conditions. The percentage of males inseminating gravid females, the magnitude of ovipositional response, and the total numbers of eggs deposited in 1:1 or 1:10 male:female matchings over two days was unaffected by deprivation of dietary protein. The LT50's (median survival time) for solitary males provided proteinaceous, sucrose, or water diets were 38.0, 25.8, and 6.0 days, respectively. Yet independent of diet effects, males lost 50% of their wing tissue by fragmentation after 26 days, suggesting that wing condition is more important in determining male reproductive fitness than longevity. Male mating frequency in single pairings with previtellogenic females deprived of proteinaceous diet for ten days was similar to that of gravid, protein-fed females. In no-choice and choice mating bioassays at a 10:1 female:male ratio, however, males inseminated significantly fewer previtellogenic than gravid females over 24 h. Despite evidence for male autogeny, removal of exogenous protein resources in the Allium agroecosystem may have important effects on the reproductive competency and fecundity of D. antiqua.  相似文献

The aim of this study was todetermine the biology and reproductivepotential of Euseius scutalis(Athias-Henriot) (Acari: Phytoseiidae) atvarious temperatures. These data are of valuein relation to mass rearing and the developmentof population dynamics models. The developmenttime, survival and fecundity of E.scutalis were determined at 20, 25 and30 ± 1 °C, 65 ± 10% RH and 16:8photoperiod. Total development times of E.scutalis were 6.7, 4.9 and 4.2 days at 20, 25and 30 ± 1 °C, respectively, using adiet of all life stages of the spider mite Panonychus citri (McGregor) (Acari:Tetranychidae). In general, preoviposition andpostoviposition periods of E. scutaliswere shortened as temperature increased, butthe oviposition period was longer at 25 °C than at 20 and 30 °C. Theshortest survival time of E. scutalis, at30 °C, was 10.1 days, followed by 23.7days and 28.6 days at 20 and 25 °C,respectively. Mated females laid on average1.1, 1.4 and 1.7 eggs per female per day and21.5, 39.7 and 17.1 eggs over their entire lifetime at 20, 25 and 30 °C, respectively.The sex ratios of E. scutalis were2.11/1, 2.24/1 and 2.11/1 female/male at 20, 25and 30 °C, respectively. The intrinsicrate of natural increase (r m) increasedwith rising temperatures from 0.166 at 20 °C to 0.295 females/female/day at 30 °C. The net reproductive rate (R 0)was highest at 25 °C (26.03females/female) and lowest at 30 °C(12.95 females/female). Euseius stipulatus (Athias-Henriot) is a predatory mite widespread in the Mediterranean region considered to be important for the biological control of spider mites in citrus orchards. Development, survival and reproduction of this phytoseiid mite feeding on seven commercially obtained pollen were studied under constant laboratory conditions (20 ± 1°C, RH 65 ± 5%, photoperiod 16L: 8D h). Mites were kept individually at rearing units with ample quantity of almond (Prunus amygdalus Batch), apple (Malus domestica Borkh), apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.), cherry (Prunus avium L.), pear (Pyrus communis L.), plum (Prunus domestica L.) and walnut (Juglans regia L.) pollen as food source. Developmental time from egg to adult varied between the several pollen tested from 8.38 ± 0.08 to 9.58 ± 0.11 days for females and from 8.23 ± 0.12 and 9.07 ± 0.12 days for males. Female longevity varied from 11.53 ± 1.22 to 51.38 ± 2.45 days, while fecundity ranged from 22.84 ± 2.30 to 43.61 ± 3.78 eggs/female. The predator was unable to reproduce when feeding on walnut pollen. Data were submitted to life table analysis and values of the intrinsic rate of increase were derived, ranging from 0.079 to 0.146 (day−1). The cumulative Weibull function that was used to describe the age specific survival of females produced excellent fits to the survival data. Results show that almond, plum, cherry and apricot pollen possess higher nutritional value for E. stipulatus than pear and apple pollen and thus may contribute in sustaining and increasing the predator population in field conditions. Walnut pollen can be utilized by the predator only to survive during short periods of time when principal or alternative food sources are scarce.  相似文献

The effects of five diets (larvae of Galleria mellonella L., larvae of Spodoptera littoralis (Boisduval), eggs of Ephestia kuehniella Zeller, cysts of Artemia franciscana Kellogg and an artificial diet based on bovine meat) on development, survival and reproduction of two predatory stinkbugs, Picromerus bidens L. and Podisus maculiventris (Say), were studied in the laboratory. Both species successfully completed immature development on the foods offered, except for P. bidens on cysts of A. franciscana. Significant effects of diet on developmental duration were found in both species. Total developmental time from second instar to adult ranged from 25.0 to 41.5 days and from 18.7 to 46.0 days in P. bidens and P. maculiventris, respectively. Nymphal survival of P. maculiventris was superior to that of P. bidens on all diets tested. Nymphal survival of P. maculiventris was greater than 92% on all diets except on A. franciscana cysts, yielding only 50% survival to adulthood. Survival of P. bidens fed on eggs of E. kuehniella was higher than that of conspecifics fed on caterpillar prey or artificial diet (89% on flour moth eggs vs. 68 and 80% on G. mellonella and S. littoralis and only 50% on meat diet). Fresh weight of newly emerged females of both pentatomids was affected by the diet offered to the predators during their nymphal stage. Females of P. maculiventris produced viable eggs on all diets except on cysts of A. franciscana and had mean fecundities of 691, 436, 608 and 344 eggs per female on S. littoralis, G. mellonella, E. kuehniella eggs and the meat diet, respectively. Females of P. bidens laid eggs only on live prey with mean fecundities of 94 and 38 eggs per female on S. littoralis and G. mellonella, respectively. Varying concentrations of powdered leaves of Eucalyptus and Mentha and rhizomes of Curcuma were evaluated in controlling Tyrophagus putrescentiae in wheat flour. At higher concentrations, all these plant materials significantly decreased the population build-up of the mite. Eucalyptus and Mentha leaf powders were effective at concentrations ranging from 100 to 5% in bringing about a decrease in the fecundity of the mite and reducing the egg numbers to 51.66 and 25.49 per female, respectively, as compared to 98.16 eggs per female in the controls. Rhizomes of Curcuma were effective even at a concentration of 0.1% reducing the egg laying to 7.66 eggs per female in wheat flour. These materials were more deleterious to immature stages (ova and larvae) than to the mature stages of T. putrescentiae. When tested on whole grains of wheat these plant materials showed more pronounced effects in controlling the mite population compared to that in wheat flour. Curcuma rhizomes were the most promising for possible use against T. putrescentiae.  相似文献
