Plasma concentrations of corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH) and the serum concentrations of luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), testosterone, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and cortisol were measured in seven physically active males after acute exercise on a treadmill using the Bruce protocol. Measurements were made in the basal pre-exercise state, immediately after exercise, and at 30-min intervals for 3 h after exercise. Serum LH concentrations declined following exercise reaching nadir values between 60 and 180 min after exercise (90 min post exercise in the group). The nadir values in individual volunteers were significantly lower than both the baseline and post-exercise levels. This fall in serum LH concentration appeared to follow a slight but significant elevation of the plasma concentration of CRH which reached peak levels when measured immediately post exercise. Plasma ACTH concentrations paralleled the rise in CRH, but fell to undetectable levels of below 13.8 nmol.l-1 (less than 5 ng.l-1) 60 min after exercise. Plasma cortisol concentrations peaked approximately 30 min after the rise in ACTH, after which they gradually declined to baseline levels. Plasma testosterone concentrations paralleled the concentrations of LH. The data suggest that CRH, on the basis of its previously described gonadotropin-depressant property, may be the hormone involved in the exercise-mediated decline in serum LH. Alternatively, some as yet unidentified factor(s), may be involved in producing the altered concentrations of both LH and CRH.  相似文献

beta-endorphin (beta-EP) and beta-lipotropin (beta-LPH) concentrations were measured in the basal state and after acute exercise for 15 min or until exhaustion in 6 physically conditioned male volunteers. Serum concentrations of luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), testosterone and prolactin were also measured in the basal state. In addition, the concentrations of the gonadotropins (LH and FSH) were determined after exercise and the gonadotropin response to gonadotropin releasing hormone was assessed before and after exercise. The data show that acute exercise stimulates the release of both beta-EP and beta-LPH which return to base-line levels within 60 min after exercise. This is in contrast to our previously described results in physically unconditioned male volunteers in whom only beta-LPH release was noted after exercise. Serum LH concentrations declined after exercise reaching nadir values between 60 to 150 min after exercise. As we previously reported in physically unconditioned male volunteers, serum FSH concentrations did not change with exercise and the gonadotropin response to LRH stimulation was uninfluenced by exercise. Serum testosterone and prolactin concentration were within the normal range for healthy adult males. We speculate that the difference in beta-EP release with exercise in physically conditioned and unconditioned males represents a difference in processing of the opioid precursor molecule (pro-opiomelanocortin, POMC) in the two groups.  相似文献

To determine the effect of endogenous opioids on catecholamine response during intense exercise [80% maximal oxygen uptake ( O2max)], nine fit men [mean (SE) ( O2max, 63.9 (1.7) ml · kg–1 · min–1; age 27.6 (1.6) years] were studied during two treadmill exercise trials. A double-blind experimental design was used with subjects undertaking the two exercise trials in counterbalanced order. Exercise trials were 20 min in duration and were conducted 7 days apart. One exercise trial was undertaken following administration of naloxone (N; 1.2 mmol · l–1; 3 ml) and the other after receiving a placebo (P; 0.9% saline; 3 ml). Prior to each experimental trial a flexible catheter was placed into an antecubital vein and baseline blood samples were collected. Immediately afterwards, each subject received bolus injection of either N or P. Blood samples were also collected after 20 min of continuous exercise while running. Epinephrine and norepinephrine were higher (P < 0.05) in the N than P exercise trial with mean (SE) values of 1679 (196) versus 1196 (155) pmol · l–1 and 24 (2.2) versus 20 (1.7) nmol · · l–1 respectively. Glucose and lactate were higher (P < 0.05) in the N than P exercise trial with values of 7 (0.37) versus 5.9 (0.31) mmol · l–1 and 6.9 (1.1) versus 5.3 (0.9) mmol · l–1 respectively. These data suggest an opioid inhibition in the release of catecholamines during intense exercise.  相似文献

This study examined the effects on water balance of adding electrolytes to fluids ingested after exercise-induced dehydration. Eight healthy male volunteers were dehydrated by approximately 2% of body mass by intermittent cycle exercise. Over a 30-min period after exercise, subjects ingested one of the four test drinks of a volume equivalent to their body mass loss. Drink A was a 90 mmol·l–1 glucose solution; drink B contained 60 mmol·l–1 sodium chloride; drink C contained 25 mmol·l–1 potassium chloride; drink D contained 90 mmol·l–1 glucose, 60 mmol·l–1 sodium chloride and 25 mmol·l–1 potassium chloride. Treatment order was randomised. Blood and urine samples were obtained at intervals throughout the study; subjects remained fasted throughout. Plasma volume increased to the same extent after the rehydration period on all treatments. Serum electrolyte (Na+, K+ and Cl) concentrations fell initially after rehydration before returning to their pre-exercise levels. Cumulative urine output was greater after ingestion of drink A than after ingestion of any of the other drinks. On the morning following the trial, subjects were in greater net negative fluid balance [mean (SEM);P<0.02] on trial A [745 (130) ml] than on trials B [405 (51) ml], C [467 (87) ml] or D [407 (34) ml]. There were no differences at any time between the three electrolyte-containing solutions in urine output or net fluid balance. One hour after the end of the rehydration period, urine osmolality had fallen, with a significant treatment effect (P=0.016); urine osmolality was lowest after ingestion of drink A. On the morning after the test, subjects were in greater net negative sodium balance (P<0.001) after trials A and C than after trials B and D. Negative potassium balance was greater (P<0.001) after trials A and B than after C and D. Chloride balance was positive after drink D and a smaller negative balance (P<0.001) was observed after drink B than after A and C. These results suggest that although the measured blood parameters were similar for all trials, better whole body water and electrolyte balance resulted from the ingestion of electrolyte-containing drinks. There appeared, however, to be no additive effect of including both sodium and potassium under the conditions of this experiment.  相似文献

The plasma beta-endorphin (beta-EP) and beta-lipotropin (beta-LPH) response to acute exercise and the relationship of these opioid peptides to basal and luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LRH)-stimulated luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) secretion was studied in eight normal male volunteers. Acute exercise resulted in a rise in plasma beta-LPH levels that returned to base line when measured 60 min after exercise. Plasma beta-EP levels did not demonstrate any rise when measured immediately after 20 min of exercise or at 60 min after exercise. Serum LH concentrations in individual volunteers declined to nadir values 60-180 min after exercise after which they showed a rebound to levels higher than the preexercise values in three of five volunteers in whom nadir LH levels were attained before the final (180 min) measurement. Serum FSH concentrations were unaltered by exercise. Acute exercise similarly did not alter the LH/FSH response to exogenous LRH stimulation. Pretreatment of the volunteers with the narcotic antagonist, naloxone, failed to alter the postexercise or LRH-stimulated LH and FSH release. The data suggest that beta-EP does not exert a suppressive effect on LH secretion after acute exercise in normal human males. Whether the suppression of LH secretion after acute exercise in unconditioned males is due to factor(s) cosecreted with beta-LPH, an increase in brain beta-EP or to alternate mechanisms such as alteration in central dopaminergic or GABAergic tone remains to be established.  相似文献

Addition of luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LHRH) in vitro (10–5–5×10–9 M) to murine pituitary membranes resulted in a dose-related decrease in Ca2+-ATPase activity within 15 min. Inhibitory effects of LHRH (10–7 M) occurred after 90 sec, and appeared maximal by 120 sec. Eadie-Hofstee analysis at 10–7 M LHRH, at varying [Ca2+]free, resulted in aK m=0.89±0.06 M and aV max=18.8±0.71 nmol/mg per 2 min, compared to aK m=0.69±0.06 M and aV max=32.8±1.21 nmol/mg per 2 min for controls. Pre-incubation for 5 min with LHRH antagonist (10–8 M) significantly attenuated (50%) the inhibitory effects of 10–7 M LHRH on pituitary Ca2+ ATPase activity with aK m=0.97±0.24 M and aV max=28.1±2.8 nmol/mg per 2 min. The addition of LHRH (10–7 M) to pituitary homogenates significantly increased luteinizing hormone (LH) release already at 10 and up to 40 sec compared to basal LH release. Systemic administration of 50 ng LHRH (i.p.), significantly (P<0.05) reduced pituitary Ca2+-ATPase after 30, 60 and 90 min, with a return to control levels by 120 min. Pituitary LH content was reduced slightly at 15 min, but was increased significantly at 90 and 120 min post-treatment. Plasma LH levels were elevated by 5 min, reached a peak by 15 min and returned to control within 60 min. The present findings indicate that LHRH receptor activation may influence cytosolic Ca2+ transport through effects on membrane Ca2+-ATPase activity. These actions may regulate LHRH-induced synthesis, storage and release of LH from pituitary gonadotropes.  相似文献

Summary An amylolytic lactic acid bacterium identified as Lactobacillus plantarum was isolated from cassava roots (Manihot esculenta var. Ngansa) during reting. The amylolytic enzyme synthesized was an extracellular -amylase with an optimum pH of 5.0 and an optimum temperature of 55° C. Cultured on starch, the strain displayed a growth rate of 0.43 h–1, a biomass yield of 0.19 g·g–1 and a lactate yield of 0.81 g·g–1. The growth kinetics were similar on starch and glucose. Sufficient enzyme was synthesized and starch hydrolysis was not a limiting factor for growth. Biosynthesis of the enzyme was observed when the glucose concentration was less than 6.7 g·l–1 and reached up to 4 IU·ml–1 at the end of the fermentation. Offprint requests to: M. Raimbault  相似文献

In this work we studied the possible effects of acute exercise on some haematological parameters and on some functions of neutrophils in seven active and six inactive subjects. Physical exercise (10 min on a cycle ergometer at a heart rate of 150 beats · min–1) induced a significant increase in total leucocyte, lymphocyte and neutrophil concentrations in active subjects; serum iron and ferritin concentrations were lower in active compared to inactive subjects. Cellular adhesion, bactericidal activity and superoxide anion production did not change after exercise, while we also observed some differences between active and inactive subjects before exercise. In particular, the neutrophils from active subjects showed a significantly higher percentage of adhesion, higher bactericidal activity and lower superoxide anion production. In conclusion, the training induced changes in some neutrophil functions, while acute exercise influenced, overall, leucocyte concentrations.  相似文献

The production of 2,3-butanediol by fermentation of high test molasses   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
Summary Klebsiella oxytoca fermented 199 g·l–1 high test or invert molasses using batch fermentation with substrate shift to produce 95.2–98.6 g 2,3-butanediol·l–1 and 2,4–4.3 g acetoin·l–1 with a diol yield of 96–100% of the theoretical value and a diol productivity of 1.0–1.1 g·l–1·h–1. Fermentation was performed numerous times with molasses in repeated batch culture with cell recovery. Such repeated batch fermentation, in addition to a high product yield, also showed a very high product concentration. For example, 118 g 2,3-butanediol·l–1 and 2.3 g acetoin·l–1 were produced from 280 g·l–1 of high test molasses. The diol productivity in this fermentation amounted to 2.4 g·l–1·h–1 and can undoubtedly be further increased by increasing the cell concentration. Because the Klebsiella cultures ferment 2,3-butanediol at an extremely high rate once the sugar has been consumed, the culture was inhibited completely by the addition of 15 g ethanol·l–1 and switching off aeration. The mechanical power (Wtot, W·kg–1) developed during ten revolutions of all-out periods of cycle ergometer exercise (4–9 s) was measured every 5–6 min in six subjects from rest or from a baseline of constant aerobic exercise [50%–80% of maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max)] of 20–40 min duration. The oxygen uptake [VO2 (W·kg–1, 1 ml O2 = 20.9 J)] and venous blood lactate concentration ([la]b, mM) were also measured every 15 s and 2 min, respectively. During the first all-out period, Wtot decreased linearly with the intensity of the priming exercise (Wtot = 11.9–0.25·VO2). After the first all-out period (i greater than 5–6 min), and if the exercise intensity was less than 60% VO2max, Wtot, VO2 and [la]b remained constant until the end of the exercise. For exercise intensities greater than 60% VO2max, VO2 and [la]b showed continuous upward drifts and Wtot continued decreasing. Under these conditions, the rate of decrease of Wtot was linearly related to the rate of increase of V [(d Wtot/dt) (W·kg–1·s–1) = 5.0·10–5 –0.20·(d VO2/dt) (W·kg–1·s–1)] and this was linearly related to the rate of increase of [la]b [(d VO2/dt) (W·kg–1·s–1) = 2.310–4 + 5.910–5·(d [la]b/dt) (mM·s–1)]. These findings would suggest that the decrease of Wtot during the first all-out period was due to the decay of phosphocreatine concentration in the exercising muscles occurring at the onset of exercise and the slow drifts of VO2 (upwards) and of Wtot (downwards) during intense exercise at constant Wtot could be attributed to the continuous accumulation of lactate in the blood (and in the working muscles).  相似文献

Summary Direct alcoholic fermentation of dextrin or soluble starch with selected amylolytic yeasts was studied in both batch and immobilized cell systems. In batch fermentations, Saccharomyces diastaticus was capable of fermenting high dextrin concentrations much more efficiently than Schwanniomyces castellii. From 200 g·l–1 of dextrin S. diastaticus produced 77 g·l–1 of ethanol (75% conversion efficiency). The conversion efficiency decreased to 59% but a higher final ethanol concentration of 120 g·l–1 was obtained with a medium containing 400 g·l–1 of dextrin. With a mixed culture of S. diastaticus and Schw. castellii 136 g·l–1 of ethanol was produced from 400 g·l–1 of dextrin (67% conversion efficiency). S. diastaticus cells attached well to polyurethane foam cubes and a S. diastaticus immobilized cell reactor produced 69 g·l–1 of ethanol from 200 g·l–1 of dextrin, corresponding to an ethanol productivity of 7.6g·l–1·h–1. The effluent from a two-stage immobilized cell reactor with S. diastaticus and Endomycopsis fibuligera contained 70 g·l–1 and 80 g·l–1 of ethanol using initial dextrin concentrations of 200 and 250 g·l–1 respectively. The corresponding values for ethanol productivity were 12.7 and 9.6 g·l–1·h–1. The productivity of the immobilized cell systems was higher than for the batch systems, but much lower than for glucose fermentation.  相似文献

A group of 20 healthy volunteers [10 women, 10 men; median age 25 (20–33) years] were examined by means of pulsed wave Doppler echocardiography, blood sample analysis and psychological testing before and after listening to three different examples of music: a waltz by J. Strauss, a modern classic by H. W. Henze, and meditative music by R. Shankar. To assess small haemodynamic changes, mitral flow, which reflects left ventricular diastolic behaviour, was measured by Doppler ultrasound. Heart rate, arterial blood pressure and plasma concentrations of adrenocorticotropic hormone, cortisol, prolactin, adrenaline, noradrenaline, atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) were determined simultaneously. Transmitral flow profile is characterized by early E-wave and late atrial induced A-wave. Velocity-time integrals were measured and the atrial filling fraction was calculated. The mental state was measured by using a psychological score (Zerssen) with low values (minimum 0) for enthusiastic and high values (maximum 56) for depressive patterns. Music by J. Strauss resulted in an increase of atrial filling fraction (AFF; 29% vs 26%;P<0.05) and ANP (63 pg·ml–1 vs 60 pg·ml–1;P<0.05). The mental state was improved (Zerssen: 6.5 vs 11 points;P<0.05). After the music of H. W. Henze prolactin values were lowered (7.7 ng·ml–1 vs 9.1 ng·ml–1;P<0.01). The music of R. Shankar led to a decrease of cortisol concentrations (57 ng·ml–1 vs 65 ng·ml–1;P<0.001), noradrenaline concentrations (209 g·l–1 vs 256 g·l–1;P<0.01) andt-PAantigen concentrations (1.1 ng·ml–1 vs 1.4 ng·ml–1;P<0.05). Heart rate and blood pressure remained unchanged during the whole experiment. We concluded that different types of music induced changes of left ventricular diastolic function and plasma hormone concentrations. After rhythmic music (Strauss) AFF and ANP increased significantly, the mental state being improved. Meditative music (Shankar) lowered plasma cortisol, noradrenaline and t-PA concentrations; the observed increase of early left ventricular filling was not statistically significant. Prolactin concentrations decreased after modern music (Henze). Thus, it would seem to be possible to detect cardiovascular changes following different types of music by Doppler ultrasound and hormone analysis, meditative music having promising therapeutic implications in the treatment of conditions of stress. This paper contains data from J. Vollert's work for his doctoral degree.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate criteria for maximal effort in middle-aged men and women undertaking a maximal exercise test until they were exhausted if no measurements of oxygen uptake are made. A large group of 2164 men and 975 women, all active in sports and aged between 40 and 65 years, volunteered for a medical examination including a progressive exercise test to exhaustion on a cycle ergometer. In the 3rd min of recovery a venous blood sample was taken to determine the plasma lactate concentration ([la]p, 3min). Lactate concentration and maximal heart rate (f c, max) were lower in the women than in the men (P<0.001). Multiple regression analyses were performed to assess the contribution of sex to [la]p, 3 min, independent of age and f c max, It was found that [la]p,3 min was about 2.5 mmol·l–1 lower in women than in men of the same age and f c, max. In our population 88% of the men and 85% of the women met a combination of the following f c, max and [la]p, 3min criteria: f c, max equal to or greater than 220 minus age beats·min–1 and/or [la]p, 3min equal to or greater than 8 mmol·l–1 in the men and f c, max equal to or greater than 220 minus age beats·min–1 and/or [la]p, 3min equal to or greater than 5.5 mmol·1–1 in the women.  相似文献

The purpose of these experiments is to determine the effects of foliar applications of benzylaminopurine (BAP) and gibberellic acid (GA) on tuber number production of seed potatoes. In field experiments conducted during 1989/90 cv. Mailén was used and BAP, 50 mg·l–1 was foliarly applied at (1) tuber initiation, 36 days after emergence (DAE); (2) 54 DAE; and, (3) 64 DAE. Under glasshouse conditions, in 1991/92 cv. Spunta was used and BAP 50 mg·l–1+GA 50 mg·l–1 were applied 30 and 37 days after planting/transplanting. In 1992 cv. Huinkul, Kennebec and Spunta were used and BAP 50 mg·l–1+GA 50 mg·l–1 and Biozyme (Techic SA), a commercial product with auxin (IAA, 32.2 mg·l–1), gibberellic acid (GA3, 32.2 mg·l–1) and cytokinins (zeatin, 83.2 mg·l–1) at 5 ml·l–1 were applied. In cv. Mailén, a higher tuber number in the seed fraction (<80 g) was found when BAP was applied at each of the three crop stages, while applications 54 and 62 DAE also increased tuber number in the 80–400 g fraction. As a result of BAP applications, tuber yield was also significantly increased. In the glasshouse experiments, cv. Spunta showed a significant increase in minituber production in 3 out of 4 cases, either if the mother plant came from in vitro generated plantlets or minitubers, or if GA + BAP or Biozyme was applied. It can be concluded that the use of these PGRs under both field and glasshouse conditions in cvs. Mailén and Spunta can result in increased tuber number in the seed fraction.  相似文献

Summary Some environmental affects on cell aggregation described in the literature are briefly summarized. By means of a biomass recirculation culture (Contact system), using the yeast Torulopsis glabrata, the aggregation behavior of cells in static and in dynamic test systems is described. Sedimentation times required to obtain 50 g · l–1 yeast dry matter in static systems were always higher than in dynamic ones.In addition to, influencing the biomass yield, the specific growth rate of the yeast also affected cell aggregation. The specific growth rate and therefore the aggregation could be regulated by the biomass recirculation rate as well as by the sedimenter volume.Abbreviations fo Overflow flow rate (l·h–1) - fR Recycle flow rate (l·h–1) - ft0t Total flow rate through the fermenter (l·h–1) - g Gram - h Hour - DR Fermenter dilution rate due to recycle (h–1) - DS Fermeter dilution rate due to substrate (h–1) - Dtot Total fermenter dilution rate (h–1) - l Liter - Specific growth rate (h–1) - PF Fermenter productivity (g·l–1·h–1) - PFS Overall productivity (g·l–1·h–1) - RpM Rates per minute - RS Residual sugar content in the effluent with respect to the substrate concentration (%) - Y Yield of biomass with respect to sugar concentration (%) - Sed 50 Sedimentation time to reach a YDM of 50 g·l–1 (min) - V Volume (l) - VF Fermenter volume (l) - VSed Sedimenter volume (l) - VVM Volumes per volume and minute - XF YDM in the fermenter (g·l–1) - XF YDM in the recycle (g·l–1) - XS Yeast dry matter due to substrate concentration (g·l–1) - YDM Yeast dry matter (g·l–1)  相似文献

Energy costs and energy sources in karate (wado style) were studied in eight male practitioners (age 23.8 years, mass. 72.3 kg, maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) 36.8 ml · min–1 · kg–1) performing six katas (formal, organized movement sequences) of increasing duration (from approximately. 10 s to approximately 80 s). Oxygen consumption (VO2) was determined during pre-exercise rest, the exercise period and the first 270 s of recovery in five consecutive expired gas collections. A blood sample for lactate (la) analysis was taken 5 min after the end of exercise. The overall amount of O2 consumed during the exercise and in the following recovery increased linearly with the duration of exercise (t) from approximately 1.51 (for t equal to 10.5 s (SD 1.6)) to approximately 5.81, for t equal to 81.5 s (SD 1.0). The energy release from la production (VO21a ) calculated assuming that an increase of 1 mmol · l–1 la corresponded to a VO2 of 3 mlO2 · kg–1 was negligible for t equal to or less than 20 s and increased to 17.3 ml · kg–1 (la = 5.8 mmol · l–1 above resting values) for t equal approximately to 80 s. The overall energy requirement (VO2eq) as given by the sum of VO2 and VO2la was described by VO2eq = 0.87 + 0.071 · t (n = 64; r 2 = 0.91), where VO2eq is in litres and t in seconds. This equation shows that the metabolic power (VO2eq · t –1) for this karate style is very high: from approximately 9.51 · min–1 for t equal to 10 s to approximately 4.91 · min–1 for t equal to 80 s, i.e. from 3.5 to 1.8 times the subjects' VO2max. The fraction of VO2eq derived from the amount of O2 consumed during the exercise increased from 11% for t equal to 10 s to 41 % for t equal to 80 s whereas VO21a was negligible far t equal to or less than 20 s and increased to 13 % o for t equal to 80 s. The remaining fraction (from 90% for t equal to 10 s to 46% for t equal to 80 s), corresponding to the amount of O2 consumed in the recovery after exercise, is derived from anaerobic alactic sources, i.e. from net splitting of high energy phosphates during the exercise.  相似文献

Effects of specific versus cross-training on running performance   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The cross-training (XT) hypothesis suggests that despite the principle of specificity of training, athletes may improve performance in one mode of exercise by training using another mode. To test this hypothesis we studied 30 well-trained individuals (10 men, 20 women) in a randomized longitudinal trail. Subjects were evaluated before and after 8 weeks of enhanced training (+10%/week), accomplished by adding either running (R) or swimming (XT) to baseline running, versus continued baseline running (C). Both R ( – 26.4s) and XT (– 13.2s) improved time trial (3.2 km) performance, whereas C did not (– 5.4s). There were no significant changes during treadmill running in maximum oxygen uptake (O2peak; – 0.2, – 6.0, and + 2.7%), steady state submaximal O2 at 2.68 m · s–1 ( – 1.2, – 3.3 and + 0.2 ml · kg–1 · min–1), velocity at O2peak (+0.05, +0.25 and +0.09 m · s–1) or accumulated O2 deficit (+ 11.2, – 6.1 and + 9.4%) in the R, XT or C groups, respectively. There was a significant increase in velocity associated with a blood lactate concentration of 4 mmol · l–1 in R but not in XT or C ( + 0.32, + 0.07 and + 0.08 m · s–1). There were significant changes in arm crank O2peak ( + 5%) and arm crank O2 at 4 mmol · l–1 ( + 6.4%) in XT. There was no significant changes in arm crank O2peak ( + 1.3 and – 7.7%) or arm crank O2 at 4 mmol · l–1 ( + 0.8 and + 0.4%) in R or C, respectively. The data suggest that muscularly non-similar XT may contribute to improved running performance but not to the same degree as increased specific tranining.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate whether, when muscle glycogen is reduced, a pre-exercise infusion of branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) modifies exercise performance or the metabolic and respiratory responses to incremental exercise. Six moderately trained volunteers took part in the following protocol on two occasions. On day 1, at 9 a.m. in the postabsorptive state, they performed a graded incremental exercise (increases of 35 W every 4 min) to exhaustion (Ex-1). A meal of 1,000 kcal (4,200 kJ; 60% protein, 40% fat) was consumed at 12 p.m. No food was then allowed until the end of the experiment (20–21 h later). A 90-min period of exercise at alternating high and moderate intensities, designed to deplete muscle glycogen, was performed between 6 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. The morning after (day 2), the subjects randomly received either a mixed solution of BCAA (260 mg × kg–1 × h–1 for 70 min), or saline. They then repeated the graded incremental exercise to exhaustion (Ex-2). Metabolic and respiratory measurements suggested a muscle glycogen-depleted state had been achieved. No significant differences were observed in total work performed, maximal oxygen uptake or plasma ammonia, alanine, and blood pyruvate concentrations in the two treatments. After BCAA infusion, higher blood lactate concentrations were observed at maximal power output in comparison with those during saline [BCAA 4.97 (SEM 0.41) mmol × l–1, Saline 3.88 (SEM 0.47) mmol × l–1,P < 0.05]. In summary, in conditions of reduced muscle glycogen content, after a short period of fasting, BCAA infusion had no significant effect on the total work that could be performed during a graded incremental exercise.  相似文献

Serum luteinizing hormone (LH) and cortisol concentrations were measured in ten fall calving, Angus cows averaging 38 +/- 8 days postpartum. Calves from five cows were weaned at the beginning of the study. Blood samples were collected at 20 min. intervals for 48 h after weaning and for 8 h on day 4 and day 6 postweaning. Mean serum LH concentrations increased (P<0.01) in weaned cows (W) from 0.55 +/- 0.01 ng/ml at time of calf removal to 1.3 +/- 0.04 ng/ml 48 h afterwards. Comparable LH concentrations for suckled cows (S) were 0.65 +/- 0.08 ng/ml and 0.62 +/- 0.03 ng/ml respectively. Average serum LH concentrations at 48 h after weaning were greater (P<0.01) for W cows than S cows and a treatment by time interaction occurred (P<0.01) with serum LH concentrations increasing (P<0.01) from time of calf removal to 48 h after calf removal in W cows. Frequency of LH peaks increased (P<0.01) in W cows and by 48 h after weaning was greater (P<0.01) in W cows than in S cows. Magnitude of LH peaks did not differ between the two groups. Serum cortisol concentrations were not different between W and S cows except for a transient elevation (P<0.01) in W cows from 7.6 +/- 0.9 ng/ml to 11.9 +/- 1.0 ng/ml 9 to 12 h after calf removal. Since serum LH concentrations were increased in W cows but not in S cows at 48 h and serum cortisol concentrations increased transiently in W cows we suggest that circulating cortisol levels may not be a physiological inhibitor of LH secretion in the suckled postpartum beef cow.  相似文献

A modified Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) was used for the treatability studies of synthetic tapioca wastewaters. The RBC used was a four stage laboratory model and the discs were modified by attaching porous nechlon sheets to enhance biofilm area. Synthetic tapioca wastewaters were prepared with influent concentrations from 927 to 3600 mg/l of COD. Three hydraulic loads were used in the range of 0.03 to 0.09 m3·m–2·d–1 and the organic loads used were in the range of 28 to 306 g COD· m–2·d–1. The percentage COD removal were in the range from 97.4 to 68. RBC was operated at a rotating speed of 18 rpm which was found to be the optimal rotating speed. Biokinetic coefficients based on Kornegay and Hudson models were obtained using linear analysis. Also, a mathematical model was proposed using regression analysis.List of Symbols A m2 total surface area of discs - d m active depth of microbial film onany rotating disc - K s mg ·l–1 saturation constant - P mg·m–2·–1 area capacity - Q l·d–1 hydraulic flow rate - q m3·m–2·d–1 hydraulic loading rate - S 0 mg·l–1 influent substrate concentration - S e mg·l–1 effluent substrate concentration - w rpm rotational speed - V m3 volume of the reactor - X f mg·l–1 active biomass per unit volume ofattached growth - X s mg·l–1 active biomass per unit volume ofsuspended growth - X mg·l–1 active biomass per unit volume - Y s yield coefficient for attachedgrowth - Y A yield coefficient for suspendedgrowth - Y yield coefficient, mass of biomass/mass of substrate removed Greek Symbols hr mean hydraulic detention time - (max)A d–1 maximum specific growth rate forattached growth - (max)s d–1 maximum specific growth rate forsuspended growth - max d–1 maximum specific growth rate - d–1 specific growth rate - v mg·l–1·hr–1 maximum volumetric substrateutilization rate coefficient  相似文献
