Three new species of ants (genus <Emphasis Type="Italic">Aphaenogaster</Emphasis>, Hymenoptera: Formicidae) from Turkey

Three new species of the ant genus Aphaenogaster (A. aktaci sp. n., A. maculifrons sp. n., A. radchenkoi sp. n.) are described from Turkey and their taxonomic positions are discussed. Aphaenogaster aktaci sp. n. belongs to the obsidiana group, A. maculifrons sp. n. to subterranea group and A. radchenkoi sp. n. to pallida group of the Attomyrma subgenus. Key characteristics for identification of the species and data on their ecology are given.     

<Emphasis Type="Italic">Bracon (Lucobracon) iskilipus</Emphasis> sp. n. (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Braconinae) from the Central Black Sea region of Turkey

During the studies on the Turkish Braconidae, a new species Bracon (Lucobracon) iskilipus sp. n. from the Turkish Central Black Sea region was recorded. Bracon (Lucobracon) iskilipus sp. n. was described, its morphological diagnostic characters were illustrated and it was compared with the related Bracon (Lucobracon) moczari Papp.     

A new species of the genus <Emphasis Type=Italic>Chelonus</Emphasis> Panzer, 1806 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Cheloninae) from Western Anatolia (Turkey)

A new species of the genus Chelonus Panzer, 1806, C. beyarslani sp. n., is described and illustrated from Western Anatolia (Turkey). It is morphologically similar to Chelonus oculator (F., 1775), from which it differs mainly in the characteristics of antennomeres, first flagellomere, propodeum, propodeal tubercle and mesosoma.     

A new species of the genus <Emphasis Type="Italic">Synema Simon</Emphasis>, 1864 (Araneae: Thomisidae) from Turkey

Synema anatolica sp. n. (Araneae: Thomisidae) is described based on both sexes from Turkey. Differences between the new species and related species are discussed.     

A review of the tribe Phanerotomini (Hymenoptera,Braconidae, Cheloninae) in Turkey,with a new host record for <Emphasis Type="Italic">Phanerotoma</Emphasis> (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Bracotritoma</Emphasis>) <Emphasis Type="Italic">permixtellae</Emphasis>

In this study, the Phanerotomini of Turkey collected between July 1959 and July 2004, are listed. A total of thirteen Phanerotomini species were determined, and six of these are reported for the first time from Turkey. Phanerotoma (Bracotritoma) permixtellae Fischer, 1968 was reared from a new natural host Recurvaria pistaciicola (Danilevskii, 1955) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae). With this present study an illustrated identification key for the Phanerotomini of Turkey is given. The distribution of the Phanerotomini species is discussed according to the phytogeographical provinces of Turkey.     

Two new species of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Zercon</Emphasis> (Acari: Zerconidae) from Turkey

Two new species of zerconid mites, Zercon uludagicus sp. n. and Z. huseyini sp. n., from Turkey are described and illustrated. The similarities and differences between the species are discussed. The lists of the taxonomic diagnostic key to adults of Zercon species known from Turkey are also given.     

<Emphasis Type="Italic">Caragana aliensis</Emphasis>, a new species of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Caragana</Emphasis> (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Leguminosae</Emphasis>) from Tibet,China

Summary   Caragana aliensis a new species from Tibet, China, is described and illustrated.     

Phytogeographical distribution of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Vipio</Emphasis> Latreille, 1804 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Braconinae) in Turkey,with a key to the species in Turkey and adjacent regions

The distribution of Vipio Latreille, 1804 species (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Braconinae) within eight phytogeographical provinces in Turkey is presented on the basis of field studies during 1980–2004. A total of twelve species were found, and the majority of species were associated with the Subeuxin, Euxin, Xeroeuxin and Mediterranean provinces. Vipio humerator (Costa, 1885), V. longicauda (Boheman, 1853) and V. tentator (Rossi, 1790) were the most common species in Turkey, and V. mlokossewiczi Kokoujev, 1898 is a new record for the Turkish fauna. An identification key is provided for 18 species of Vipio from Turkey and adjacent regions with relevant figures of the wings and metasoma.     

A new species of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Polygala</Emphasis> subgenus <Emphasis Type="Italic">Hebeclada</Emphasis> (Polygalaceae) from central Brazil

Polygala pauciramosa, a new species from the Federal District and the state of Goiás is described, illustrated, and compared with related species of Polygala subgenus Hebeclada. The new species is an herb that grows in seasonally to permanently wet savannas. A key to the species of Polygala subgenus Hebeclada from Goiás state, Brazil is provided.     

<Emphasis Type="Italic">Funastrum rupicola</Emphasis> (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Apocynaceae:</Emphasis><Emphasis Type="Italic">Asclepiadoideae</Emphasis>), a new species from Bolivia

Summary   Funastrum rupicola Goyder, a new species of Apocynaceae: Asclepiadoideae from Bolivia, is described and illustrated. The conservation status of this species is assessed.     

<Emphasis Type="Italic">Nepenthes</Emphasis> group <Emphasis Type="Italic">Montanae</Emphasis> (Nepenthaceae) in Indo-China,with <Emphasis Type="Italic">N. thai</Emphasis> and <Emphasis Type="Italic">N. bokor</Emphasis> described as new

Summary  A key is presented to the Nepenthes group Montanae in Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia. Nepenthes bokor Cheek is described from Cambodia and Nepenthes thai Cheek from peninsular Thailand. The affinities of both taxa are discussed and their conservation status assessed.     

<Emphasis Type="Italic">Walckenaeria aksoyi</Emphasis> sp. n. (Araneae: Linyphiidae) from Turkey

Walckenaeria aksoyi sp. n. (Araneae: Linyphiidae) is described based on males from Marmaris Province in Turkey.     

New species in <Emphasis Type="Italic">Barleria</Emphasis> sect. <Emphasis Type="Italic">Stellatohirta</Emphasis> (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Acanthaceae</Emphasis>) from Africa

Summary  Three new species are described in Barleria L. sect. Stellatohirta M. Balkwill from tropical Africa: B. aristata from south-central Tanzania, B. aenea from south-western Tanzania and northeast Zambia, and B. purpureotincta from south-western Zambia. Their affinities and conservation status are discussed.     

Two new species of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Erythroxylum</Emphasis> sect. <Emphasis Type="Italic">Rhabdophyllum</Emphasis> (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Erythroxylaceae</Emphasis>) from north-eastern Brazil

Summary   Erythroxylum longisetulosum I. Loiola & M. F. Sales and E. timothei I. Loiola & M. F. Sales (sect. Rhabdophyllum) from north-eastern Brazil are described and illustrated, and their taxonomic and ecological relationships are discussed.     

Taxonomic novelties in <Emphasis Type="Italic">Rhynchospora</Emphasis> (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Cyperaceae</Emphasis>) from South America

Summary  Two new species of Rhynchospora, R. acanthoma and R. rupestris, are described and illustrated. Their geographical distributions are discussed. The status of R. exilis and its synonymy is clarified.     

Two new species of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Calathea</Emphasis> (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Marantaceae</Emphasis>) from South-eastern Brazil

Summary   Calathea dryadica and Calathea reginae are described, circumscribed and illustrated. These new species are probably endemic to the Atlantic Forest of Rio de Janeiro State in Southeast Brazil and are considered critically endangered because of the restricted geographic area of occurrence, sometimes enclosed by densely urbanised areas.     

Two new species of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Habenaria</Emphasis> (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Orchidaceae</Emphasis>) from the Brazilian cerrado and campo rupestre

Summary  Two new species, Habenaria ciliatisepala and H. egleriana (Orchidaceae, Orchideae), from the cerrado of central Brazil and campo rupestre of the Espinha?o mountain range in Minas Gerais and Bahia, are described and illustrated.     

Pollen morphology of some <Emphasis Type="Italic">Paronychia</Emphasis> species (Caryophyllaceae) from Turkey

The Pollen morphology of 13 taxa 11 of which are endemics belonging to Paronychia Miller (Caryophyllaceae) viz., P. agryloba, P. angorensis, P. arabica subsp. euphratica, P. carica, P. cataonica, P. chinonea, P. condensata, P. davisii, P. dudleyi, P. galatica, P. kurdica subsp. kurdica, P. kurdica subsp. montis-munzur and P. mughlaei from Turkey has been investigated by light (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). LM observations show that pollen grains are usually radially symetrical, isopolar, pantoporate, polygonal (6-gonal) or polygonal-spheroidal. Tectum is psilate or punctate. Tectal surface sparsely-densely spinulose. The numbers of pores are between 6 and 12. On the basis of pollen sizes, P. davisii was the biggest pollen type (23.45 μm) and P. kurdica subsp. kurdica (16.2 μm) was the smallest pollen types. According to exine sculpturing, pollen size and spinule numbers per 1 μm², three pollen types were distinguished.     

<Emphasis Type="Italic">Carapichea lucida</Emphasis> (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Rubiaceae: Psychotrieae</Emphasis>), a new species from Eastern Bahia,Brazil

A new species of Carapichea was discovered in the Atlantic Forest of Bahia, Brazil. Carapichea lucida J. G. Jardim &; Zappi is described, illustrated, and its phenology, habitat and conservation status are discussed.     

Two new species of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Lirula</Emphasis> on <Emphasis Type="Italic">Abies</Emphasis> from Japan

Two new species of Lirula (L. japonica and L. exigua) on Abies mariesii collected in subalpine areas of northern Japan are described as members of Rhytismatales, Discomycetes. Lirula japonica causes needle cast in fir, but L. exigua seems to occur on the needles of physically damaged twigs. Morphological characteristics of both species are discussed.
