The present study was conducted to examine differential expression pattern of HSP genes and adaptability in Indian goat breeds of semi-arid region. The study was conducted in five animals from each breed viz. Barbari, Sirohi, and Jhakrana during winter, thermo-neutral and summer seasons. The respiratory rate (RR) and rectal temperature (RT) of the goats were recorded at 09:00 h during the study period. The blood samples were collected for RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, and quantitative analysis of HSP genes expression by quantitative RT-PCR. The RR increased significantly (p < 0.01) during summer as compared to winter and thermo-neutral season however, RT did not change (p > 0.05) during different seasons. The expression of HSP genes was significantly (p < 0.01) increased during summer (high THI) as compared to thermo-neutral season in all the goat breeds. Among HSPs, only HSP90 was upregulated (p < 0.01) in Jhakrana goats during winter as compared to thermo-neutral season. The deviation in expression of HSP genes during summer and winter with respect to thermo-neutral season was minimum in Barbari goats. Therefore, it can be concluded that Barbari goats possessed better adaptability during summer and winter as compared to Sirohi and Jhakrana goats in semi-arid climatic conditions of India.  相似文献

Immunity of mammary gland in terms of in vitro activity of milk leukocytes has been evaluated during hot-humid, summer, and winter season in elite (n = 10) and non-elite (n = 10) crossbred cows. Milk samples were collected from all the cows throughout the year at 15-day interval. Milk somatic cell counts (SCC) and differential leukocyte counts (DLC) were evaluated microscopically. Milk neutrophils, macrophages, and lymphocytes were isolated and cultured in vitro. In vitro PI of milk neutrophils and macrophages was evaluated by colorimetric NBT (nitro-blue tetrazolium) reductive assay. Mitogen-induced milk lymphocyte blastogenic response was measured by colorimetric MTT (thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide) assay. Milk SCC was found to be significantly (p < 0.01) higher in elite cows compared to non-elite cows irrespective of season. There was significant (p < 0.05) increase in milk SCC during hot-humid season compared to winter season in both the group of the cows. There was no significant difference between group and season in terms of DLC. In vitro phagocytic index of elite cows was significantly (p < 0.01) higher than non-elite cows. The phagocytic index was significantly (p < 0.01) decreased in summer and hot-humid season compared to winter season in both the group of animals. Macrophages isolated from elite cows having significantly (p < 0.01) lower phagocytic index than non-elite cows which significantly (p < 0.01) decreased during summer and hot-humid season compared to winter. In vitro milk lymphocyte proliferative response was significantly (p < 0.01) lower in elite cows. Activity of B-lymphocytes decreased significantly (p < 0.01) during summer and hot-humid season than winter, but activity of T-lymphocytes remains unaltered during different seasons. In conclusion, the mammary immunity in terms of in vitro activity of milk leukocytes is compromised during summer and hot-humid season in elite crossbred cows; therefore, better care and management should be taken in high-yielding cows during summer and hot-humid season to minimize intramammary infections.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Altering meal timing could improve cognition, alertness, and thus safety during the nightshift. This study investigated the differential impact of consuming a meal, snack, or not eating during the nightshift on cognitive performance (ANZCTR12615001107516). 39 healthy participants (59% male, age mean±SD: 24.5 ± 5.0y) completed a 7-day laboratory study and underwent four simulated nightshifts. Participants were randomly allocated to: Meal at Night (MN; n= 12), Snack at Night (SN; n = 13) or No Eating at Night (NE; n = 14). At 00:30 h, MN consumed a meal and SN consumed a snack (30% and 10% of 24 h energy intake respectively). NE did not eat during the nightshift. Macronutrient intake was constant across conditions. At 20:00 h, 22:30 h, 01:30 h, and 04:00 h, participants completed the 3-min Psychomotor Vigilance Task (PVT-B), 40-min driving simulator, post-drive PVT-B, subjective sleepiness scale, 2-choice Reaction Time task, and Running Memory task. Objective sleep was recorded for each of the day sleeps using Actigraphy and for the third day sleep, Polysomnography was used. Performance was compared between conditions using mixed model analyses. Significant two-way interactions were found. At 04:00 h, SN displayed increased time spent in the safe zone (p < .001; percentage of time spent within 10 km/h of the speed limit and 0.8 m of lane center), and decreases in speed variability (p < .001), lane variability (p < .001), post-drive PVT-B lapses (defined as RT > 355 ms; p < .001), and reaction time on the 2-choice reaction time task (p < .001) and running memory task (p < .001) compared to MN and NE. MN reported greater subjective sleepiness at 04:00 h (p < .001) compared to SN and NE. There was no difference in objective sleep between eating conditions. Eating a large meal during the nightshift impairs cognitive performance and sleepiness above the effects of time of night alone. For improved performance, shiftworkers should opt for a snack at night.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of summer and winter seasons on antioxidant status, body reserve mobilization and biomarkers of stress in Hariana and Sahiwal cows. Twelve lactating cows (six of each Hariana and Sahiwal cows) were included in summer (May to July) and winter season (November to January) study. Microclimatic observations were recorded on daily basis during the experimental period. In both seasons, blood samples were collected at fortnightly intervals for analysis of total antioxidant activity, non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA), β-Hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA), heat shock protein 70 and 90 (HSP70 and HSP90). Antioxidant activity reduced significantly (p < 0.05) in Hariana cattle during summers as compared to winters; whereas, seasonal variation exerts no effect on antioxidant activity in Sahiwal. Blood NEFA concentration was similar among both the breeds over both the seasons but reduced significantly (p < 0.05) during summer season as compared to winters in both the breeds. BHBA concentration was significantly higher (p < 0.05) in Hariana cows than Sahiwal cows during winters, however, no effect on BHBA level was observed during summer season in both the breeds. Significantly, lower plasma cortisol level (p < 0.05) was found during winter season in Sahiwal as well as Hariana cows. Further, Sahiwal exhibited lower plasma cortisol as compared to Hariana in both the seasons. HSP 70 and 90 showed non-significant differences between breeds within both the seasons. However, significantly, lower plasma HSP 70 levels (p < 0.05) were reported during winter season in Sahiwal as well as in Hariana cows. Results of present study revealed that indigenous Sahiwal is more heat tolerant as compared to Hariana breed.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to assess the influence of summer and winter seasons on semen quality and plasma hormone concentrations in cross-bred bulls. Semen was collected by an artificial vagina from eight bulls and microscopically evaluated for quality parameters. Semen volume was higher in summer season (p < 0.05) than winter season, whereas nonsignificant variation (p > 0.05) was observed in mass motility, individual motility, sperm viability, sperm concentration and percentage of membrane-intact and acrosome-intact spermatozoa. Plasma prolactin and testosterone concentration were significantly (p < 0.01) higher in summer season than winter season. Plasma testosterone levels were positively correlated with semen volume and negatively correlated with individual motility (p < 0.05). Prolactin showed a significant positive correlation with semen volume. A well-defined seasonal pattern in semen characteristics was not observed and few correlations existed between plasma hormone levels and semen characteristics in Karan Fries bulls.  相似文献

The present study was conducted in Hariana and Sahiwal cows to study neutrophil functional dynamics during different seasons (summer, rainy and winter) in terms of expression of toll like receptor 2 & 4, neutrophils’ apoptosis in terms of caspase 3, 7 activities, and transmembrane mitochondrial potential. Blood samples were collected from Hariana (n = 10) and Sahiwal cows (n = 10) throughout the year to evaluate the effects of season on neutrophil dynamics. In each season, eight blood samples were collected from each animal (twice in each month). Toll-like receptor 2 and 4 expressions were significantly (p < 0.05) decreased in neutrophils during summer season as compared to rainy and winter seasons. Significantly, (p < 0.05) higher caspase 3 & 7 activities and significantly higher per cent of neutrophils with low transmembrane mitochondrial potential indicating its enhanced apoptosis were found during extreme summer and lowest during winter. Both Sahiwal and Hariana breeds exhibited similar trends in neutrophil apoptosis. The results of the study evidently indicate that neutrophil competence varies from season to season in zebu cattle and could determine the possible incidences of infections in these cows. Hot-humid season could be conducive for microbial infections owing to accelerated apoptosis of neutrophils and down regulation of TLR2 and TLR4 of immune cells of zebu cattle.  相似文献

This study assessed the relationship between season and lunar phase at conception on offspring sex ratio of four livestock species (sheep, cattle, goats and pigs). The sex of 66,830 lambs (1995–2015); 25,546 calves (2011–2015); 5671 kids (2002–2007) and 1916 piglets was recorded. Moon phases were categorized as either new moon, crescent moon, full moon or decrescent moon. Sex ratio, expressed as proportion of males (males/males + females), was tested against the expected value of 1:1. In sheep, offspring sex ratio and lunar phase were not correlated; season had a significant (p = 0.002) effect on offspring sex ratio. The proportion of males born of spring and winter matings was significantly higher than it was among offspring born of summer (p < 0.05) or autumn (p < 0.01) conceptions. Offspring sex ratios in spring (p < 0.05), autumn (p < 0.01) and winter (p < 0.05) differed significantly from the expected. In cattle, moon phase and season did not affect the offspring sex ratio; however, the interaction effect was highly significant (p = 0.001). The overall piglet sex ratio (0.522), and the sex ratios among piglets conceived during a crescent moon and those conceived in summer differed significantly (p < 0.05) from 1:1. Research including additional factors such as hormonal treatments prior to insemination, food availability, weather and maternal and paternal factors might provide the underlying reasons for the effects of season and moon phase on offspring sex ratio in some livestock species.  相似文献

Although short total sleep time (TST) is associated with increased anxious symptoms in adolescents, it is unknown whether social jetlag, a misalignment between sleep timing on the weekend and school week, is independently associated with anxious symptoms. In the current study, sleep timing, anxious symptoms, and demographic information were assessed from 3097 adolescents (48% female, mean ± SD age 15.59 ± .77 years) from the age 15 wave of the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study. Social jetlag was calculated as the absolute value of the midpoint of sleep on the weekend minus the midpoint of sleep during the school week. Anxious symptoms were measured through the 6-item anxiety subscale of the Brief Symptom Inventory 18. We assessed associations between sleep variables and anxious symptoms using multiple linear regression. Adjusted analyses controlled for sex, race/ethnicity, age in years, body mass index percentile, number of other children below the age of 18 in the household, and primary caregiver (PCG) married/cohabiting with youth’s biological parent, PCG employment status, PCG household income and PCG education level. In fully adjusted models (R2 = .034), school night TST (b = ?.04, ?R2 = .005, p < .001) was negatively associated with anxiety symptoms, while social jetlag (b = .04, ?R2 = .009, p < .001) was positively and independently associated with anxiety symptoms. Findings indicate small associations of school night TST and social jetlag with anxious symptoms. Thus, maintenance of optimal emotional health in adolescents may require both sufficient sleep duration and regularity of sleep timing across the week.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to compare light exposure and sleep parameters between adolescents with delayed sleep phase disorder (DSPD; n?=?16, 15.3?±?1.8 yrs) and unaffected controls (n?=?22, 13.7?±?2.4 yrs) using a prospective cohort design. Participants wore wrist actigraphs with photosensors for 14 days. Mean hourly lux levels from 20:00 to 05:00?h and 05:00 to 14:00?h were examined, in addition to the 9-h intervals prior to sleep onset and after sleep offset. Sleep parameters were compared separately, and were also included as covariates within models that analyzed associations with specified light intervals. Additional covariates included group and school night status. Adolescent delayed sleep phase subjects received more evening (p?<?.02, 22:00–02:00?h) and less morning (p?<?.05, 08:00–09:00?h and 10:00–12:00?h) light than controls, but had less pre-sleep exposure with adjustments for the time of sleep onset (p?<?.03, 5–7?h prior to onset hour). No differences were identified with respect to the sleep offset interval. Increased total sleep time and later sleep offset times were associated with decreased evening (p?<?.001 and p?=?.02, respectively) and morning (p?=?.01 and p?<?.001, respectively) light exposure, and later sleep onset times were associated with increased evening exposure (p?<?.001). Increased total sleep time also correlated with increased exposure during the 9?h before sleep onset (p?=?.01), and a later sleep onset time corresponded with decreased light exposure during the same interval (p?<?.001). Outcomes persisted regardless of school night status. In conclusion, light exposure interpretation requires adjustments for sleep timing among adolescents with DSPD. Pre- and post-sleep light exposures do not appear to contribute directly to phase delays. Sensitivity to morning light may be reduced among adolescents with DSPD. (Author correspondence: )  相似文献

Asthma is a “seasonal disease” with symptoms either aggravated by environmental changes during specific seasons or prevalent at certain times of the year for other reasons. We examined whether the heart rate variability (HRV) of asthmatic children changes by season. The HRV during a portion of one night (00:00–04:00) and day (12:00–16:00) and the entire 24h period (00:00–24:00) during each of the four seasons was analyzed. The data of 95 children with asthma and 106 healthy children, as controls, were assessed. In children with asthma during the 24h period, seasonal variation in the low-frequency (LF) band (0.04–0.15 Hz) and the high-frequency (HF) band (0.15–0.4 Hz) were detected (HF: F = 6.81, p =.0003; LF: F = 4.18, p =.008. The HF value in the summer was significantly higher than in autumn and spring (Scheffe test: autumn vs. summer, s = 4.46, p<.001; spring vs. summer, s = 2.86, p<.05), while the LF value in autumn was significantly lower than in summer (s = 3.42, p <.01). In the control group, no seasonal variation in HF, LF, or LF/HF was detected. The findings infer the HRV, a surrogate measure of autonomic nervous system function, of asthmatic children is more susceptible to seasonal changes brought about by either endogenous annual rhythms or environmental weather phenomena. During the last few decades, the incidence of sleep-onset insomnia, due to delay of circadian phase, has increased substantially among adolescents all over the world. We wanted to investigate whether a small dose of melatonin given daily, administered in the afternoon, could advance the sleep timing in teenagers. Twenty-one students, aged 14–19 yrs, with sleep-onset difficulties during school weeks were recruited. The study was a randomized, double blind, placebo (PL)-controlled crossover trial, lasting 5 wks. During the first 6 d in wks 2 and 4, the students received either PL or melatonin (1 mg) capsules between 16:30 and 18:00 h. During the first 6 d of wk 5, all students received melatonin. Wks 1 and 3 were capsule-free. In the last evening of each week and the following morning, the students produced saliva samples at home for later melatonin analysis. The samples were produced the same time each week, as late as possible in the evening and as early as possible in the morning. Both the student and one parent received automatic mobile text messages 15 min before saliva sampling times and capsule intake at agreed times. Diaries with registration of presumed sleep, subjective sleepiness during the day (Karolinska Sleepiness Scale, KSS) and times for capsule intake and saliva samplings were completed each day. Primary analysis over 5 wks gave significant results for melatonin, sleep and KSS. Post hoc analysis showed that reported sleep-onset times were advanced after melatonin school weeks compared with PL school weeks (p < .005) and that sleep length was longer (p < .05). After the last melatonin school week, the students fell asleep 68 min earlier and slept 62 min longer each night compared with the baseline week. Morning melatonin values in saliva diminished compared with PL (p < .001) and evening values increased (p < .001), indicating a possible sleep phase advance. Compared with PL school weeks, the students reported less wake up (p < .05), less school daytime sleepiness (p < .05) and increased evening sleepiness (p < .005) during melatonin weeks. We conclude that a small dose of melatonin given daily, administered in the afternoon, could advance the sleep timing and make the students more alert during school days even if they continued their often irregular sleep habits during weekends. ABSTRACT

Schedule changes associated with rotating shifts can interfere with the circadian rhythms of nurses and thereby affect their sleep duration, sleep quality, work efficiency, and work performance. The objectives of this study was to investigate differences in workday sleep fragmentation, rest-activity cycle, sleep quality, and activity level among nurses working different shifts. After filling out a basic information questionnaire and completing the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire, participants were asked to wear an actigraph and keep sleep records for seven consecutive days. Data pertaining to wake after sleep onset (WASO), 24-hour autocorrelation coefficient (r24), and daytime activity mean was collected in order to investigate workday sleep fragmentation, rest-activity cycle, and daytime activity level. We obtained complete questionnaires and data from 191 nurses. Day- and evening-shift nurses had more regular workday rest-activity cycles than did night-shift nurses (F = 51.26, p < .001). After controlling for r24 coefficients, we determined that nurses who experienced greater workday sleep fragmentation had higher PSQI scores (β = .18, p = .008). After controlling for WASO times, we determined that nurses who had more regular rest-activity cycles on workdays had lower PSQI scores (β = – .16, p = .036). After controlling for shift type and WASO times, we determined that nurses with higher PSQI scores displayed lower activity levels (β = – .21, p = .015) and those with higher r24 coefficients displayed higher activity levels (β = .18, p = .040) on workdays. We then examined the causal path relationships. Among the shifts, only the day-shift nurses had a higher r24 (β = ?.59, p < .001) than did the night-shift nurses; WASO exerted a significant impact on PSQI scores (β = .20, p = .002); r24 had a significant and negative influence on PSQI scores (β = ?.38, p < .001), and PSQI scores significantly and negatively influenced workday activity levels (β = ?.20, p = .006). This study determined that day- and evening-shift nurses enjoyed more regular and consistent rest-activity cycles than did night-shift nurses; nurses with greater workday sleep fragmentation and/or more irregular rest-activity cycles experienced poorer sleep quality; and nurses suffering from poorer sleep quality displayed lower daytime activity levels on workdays.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to investigate whether nocturnal melatonin (MEL) ingestion has beneficial effects against exercise-induced oxidative stress and muscle damage in young athletes. Fourteen healthy-trained teenagers performed two-test sessions separated by at least, 1 week. During each session, participants completed the Running-Based Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST) at 20:00 h. Then, they ingested a single 10-mg tablet of MEL or Placebo (PLA) in a double-blind randomized order at 22:00 h. The following morning (i.e., 07:30 h), participants performed the same test as the previous night. Blood samples were taken before and after exercise. MEL intake increased the peak power (Ppeak) (p < .01), mean power (Pmean) (p < .001) and decreased the total time (TT) (p < .001) and the fatigue index (FI) (p < .05). Furthermore, MEL ingestion attenuated the hematologic parameters before and after exercise (White Blood Cells (WBC: p < .001 and p < .001, respectively); Neutrophiles (NE: p < .001 and p < .001, respectively); Lymphocytes (LY: p < .001 and p < .001, respectively)) and the ultra-sensitive C-reactive protein (us-CRP: p < .001 and p < .001; respectively) compared to PLA. Also, MEL reduced muscle and hepatic damage enzymes before and after exercise (creatine kinase (CK: p < .001 and p < .001; respectively), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH: p < .05 and p < .01; respectively), aspartate aminotransferase (ASAT: p < .01 and p < .001; respectively)), Malondialdehyde (MDA: p < .001 and p < .001; respectively) and Homocysteine (Hcy: p < .001 and p < .001; respectively)) from placebo. Plasma lactate [La] and glucose (GL) remained unchangeable during the two conditions. In summary, acute MEL ingestion after strenuous late-evening exercise attenuated transient leucocytosis and protected against lipid peroxidation and muscle damage induced by strenuous exercise the following morning in healthy male teenage athletes.  相似文献

Epigenetics includes the study of external factors that can influence the expression of genes by altering the accessibility of DNA through methylation. To investigate the epigenetic influence of season, sperm head shape, and semen storage on placental and fetal tissues, pregnancies were generated in the summer or winter using boar semen from either least or most sperm head shape change, collected during cool or warm seasons, and stored as cooled‐extended or cryopreserved. The lowest (p < 0.05) ratios of 5‐methylcytosine to 5‐hydroxymethylcytosine activity (5mC:5hmC) in fetal liver were from summer breedings and in placental tissues from winter breedings. The relative expression of placental CDH1 tended ( p < 0.10) to be greater in placenta generated from cryopreserved semen or semen collected during cool periods. The relative expression of placental GNAS was affected ( p < 0.05) by the interaction of breeding and semen collection seasons. Cryopreserved semen increased ( p < 0.05) the placental relative expression of GNAS. Placental MEST and RHOBTB3 tended ( p < 0.10) to have a greater relative expression from pregnancies generated using semen collected during cool periods used during winter breedings. Within fetal liver, the relative expression of GNAS and HGF was greater ( p < 0.05) from winter breedings. Interaction of winter breedings and least sperm head shape change tended ( p < 0.10) to have the greatest fetal liver expression of CDH1. Seasonality of semen collection, breeding, and the effect on sperm head shape change had an influence on the expression of genes with known differentially methylated regions or response to methylation activity from embryonic and extraembryonic tissues.  相似文献

The eating habits of workers may vary according to the season of the year and corresponding work schedule. A study aiming at verifying the changes in their diet in summer and winter, as well as the nutritional status of those who work fixed shifts, was conducted. The distribution during the 24 h in the quantity of calories and macronutrients ingested and the circadian rhythm of calories consumed were also analyzed. The study was conducted on 28 workers subject to three fixed work (morning, afternoon, and night) shifts at a transport company in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The mean age of the workers was 32.8 (SD ± 5.3) yrs. Their food intake was ascertained by the use of a 3-day dietary record, and their nutritional status was evaluated by their body mass index (BMI), both in winter and summer. Two-way ANOVA (shift and season) showed food consumption—measured in calories/24 h—was significantly higher in winter than summer (F(1.25) = 11.7; p < 0.001). No statistically significant differences were found among shifts (F(2.25) = 0.85; p < 0.44), and the interaction effect between shift and season was also not significant (F(2.25) = 0.15; p < 0.86). No seasonal difference in BMI was detected (Kruskal-Wallis test). Cosinor analyses showed circadian rhythmicity in calories consumed by morning (p < 0.01) as well as afternoon shift workers (p < 0.001), both in the winter and summer. Circadian rhythmicity in calories consumed by night workers was found only in summer (p < 0.01). The changes observed in the workers’ eating habits from one season to another and during the 24 h period show the need for further studies to help develop educational programs to improve the nutrition of shift employees taking into consideration shift schedule and season of the year when work is performed.  相似文献

We studied the recovery of multitask performance and sleepiness from acute partial sleep deprivation through rest pauses embedded in performance sessions and an 8 h recovery sleep opportunity the following night. Sixteen healthy men, aged 19–22 yrs, participated in normal sleep (two successive nights with 8 h sleep) and sleep debt (one 2 h night sleep followed by an 8 h sleep the following night) conditions. In both conditions, the participants performed four 70 min multitask sessions, with every other one containing a 10 min rest pause with light neck‐shoulder exercise. The multitask consisted of four simultaneously active subtasks, with the level of difficulty set in relation to each participant's ability. Physiological sleepiness was assessed with continuous electroencephalography/electro‐oculography recordings during the multitask sessions, and subjective sleepiness was self‐rated with the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale. Results showed that multitask performance and physiological and subjective sleepiness were impaired by the sleep debt (p>.001). The rest pause improved performance and subjective sleepiness for about 15 min, regardless of the amount of prior sleep (p>.01–.05). Following recovery sleep, all outcome measures showed marked improvement (p<.001), but they failed to reach the levels observed in the control condition (p<.001–.05). A correlation analysis showed the participants whose multitask performance deteriorated the most following the night of sleep loss tended to be the same persons whose performance was most impaired following the night of the recovery sleep (p<.001). Taken together, our results suggest that a short rest pause with light exercise is not an effective countermeasure in itself for sleep debt‐induced impairments when long‐term effects are sought. In addition, it seems that shift arrangements that lead to at least a moderate sleep debt should be followed by more than one recovery night to ensure full recovery. Persons whose cognitive performance is most affected by sleep debt are likely to require the most sleep to recover.  相似文献

Effects of season on sleep and skin temperature in the elderly   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The effects of season on sleep and skin temperature (Tsk) in 19 healthy, elderly volunteers were investigated. Measurements were obtained in summer, winter, and fall, and activity levels were monitored using a wrist actigraph system for five consecutive days. The temperature and humidity of the bedrooms of the subjects’ homes were measured continuously for five days. During actigraphic measurement, Tsk during sleep was measured for two nights. The bedroom temperature and humidity significantly increased in summer compared to winter and fall. In summer, the total sleep time decreased (mean ± SE min; summer, 350.8 ± 15.7; winter, 426.5 ± 14.2; fall, 403.2 ± 16.4) and wakefulness increased (P < 0.003) compared to those in fall or winter. The sleep efficiency index that was derived from wrist actigraphy was significantly decreased (P < 0.001) in summer (81.4 ± 2.9%) compared with winter (91.6 ± 1.3%) or fall (90.2 ± 1.2%). The forehead Tsk significantly increased, while the chest and thigh Tsks were decreased in summer compared to those in fall or winter. These results suggest that, in the elderly, sleep is disturbed in summer more than in other seasons, and that this disturbance is related to fluctuations in Tsk.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A post-hoc analysis comparing morning and evening persons with insomnia on sleep and mental health characteristics was conducted in order to investigate whether an Internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (ICBTi) was effective both for morning and evening persons. Adult patients (N = 178, mean age = 44.8, 67% females) with insomnia were randomized to either ICBTi (N = 92; morning persons = 41; evening persons = 51) or a web-based patient education condition (N = 86; morning persons = 44; evening persons = 42). All patients were assessed with sleep diaries, the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), the Bergen Insomnia Scale (BIS), the Dysfunctional Beliefs and Attitudes about Sleep Scale (DBAS-16), the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Chalder Fatigue Scale (CFQ). Patients were characterized as morning or evening persons based on a median split on the Horne-Östberg Morningness Eveningness Questionnaire. Short and long-term effects of treatment were examined with mixed-model repeated-measures analyses. Morning and evening persons did not differ in terms of age, gender or educational status. At baseline, morning persons had more wake time after sleep onset (d= 0.54, p < .001) and more early morning awakening (d= 0.38, p < .05) compared to evening persons, while evening persons reported longer sleep onset latency (d= 0.60, p < .001), more time in bed (d= 0.56, p < .001), longer total sleep time (d= 0.45, p < .01), more fatigue (d= 0.31, p < .05) and more dysfunctional beliefs and attitudes about sleep (d= 0.47, p < .01). Despite these differences at baseline, both morning and evening persons receiving ICBTi benefitted more across most measures compared to morning and evening persons who received patient education. For morning persons in the ICBTi group, ISI scores were reduced from 17.3 at baseline to 8.8 (dpre-post = 2.48, p < .001) at post-assessment, and to 10.0 at 18-month follow up (dpre-post18m = 2.13, p < .001). Comparable results were found for evening persons in the ICBTi group, with a reduction in ISI scores from 17.4 at baseline to 8.6 (dpre-post = 2.24, p < .001) at post-assessment, and to 8.7 at 18-month follow up (dpre-post18m = 2.19, p < .001). Similar results were found on the BIS, DBAS, HADS, CFQ and sleep diary data. Despite different insomnia symptomatology between the two groups, the current study suggests that ICBTi is effective across scores on the morningness-eveningness dimension. Mortality of non‐target flatfishes that had escaped from various sizes (40, 44 and 50 mm) of codend meshes was determined by capturing and holding the escapees in cages for 7 days. Although three flatfish species were studied, sufficient data for detailed analyses were obtained only for Buglossidium luteum (Risso, 1810) (solenette). Trawl hauls (48 in total) with 15 min towing durations were conducted in the summer and winter seasons of 2011 and 2012. A tailored bottom trawl with 800 meshes around the mouth was used with covers to capture fish. Covers were used as an observation cage, and were fixed to the sea bottom at depths of 3.0–8.2 m. The monitoring period was 7 days. It was estimated that average escape mortality of B. luteum for all test cages (96.5%) in summer was significantly higher (p < .01) than that in winter (56.5%). Mesh size and shape was not a significant factor (p > .01), with the exception of the 2011 winter; however, the mortality rate was inversely related to fish length in most cases (p < .01). High mortalities (~100%) were observed for Arnoglossus laterna (Walbaum, 1792) (Mediterranean scaldfish) and Citharus linguatula (Linnaeus, 1758) (spotted flounder) in all hauls in both summer and winter.  相似文献
