The effects of desiccation of Hevea somatic embryos and of sucroseand ABA concentrations in the maturation medium on their germinabilitywere investigated. Conversion into plant, water and histochemicalstatus of somatic embryos were compared systematically to thoseof the zygotic embryos used as reference. Slow desiccation ormaturation on 351 mol m3 sucrose supplemented with 1mmol m3 ABA strongly improved germinability and conversionof embryos into plants. The combination of the two treatmentswas the most effective, increasing the germination frequencyby 3·7 and plant conversion by 6·6 in clone PR107. Each of these two treatments increased the vigour of somaticembryos, stimulated the formation of root and shoot meristemsand the synthesis and accumulation of starch and protein reserves.At the end of maturation, the Hevea somatic embryos bore ananatomical and histochemical resemblance to mature zygotic embryos.Likewise, the two treatments brought the water status of somaticembryos closer to that of the mature zygotic embryos, but withoutachieving a perfect match. Rice seedlings (Oryza sativa L.) were grown in the dark forup to 4 d in solutions containing various concentrations ofO2. The rate of depletion of the endosperm was most rapid inaerated solution (0·25 mol O2 m3), largely dueto the inhibition of growth of seedlings at very low O2 concentrations.Earlier suggestions that there is a deficit of sugars for growthand energy generation in O2 deficient coleoptiles were tested. Coleoptiles, shaking in aerated solution, respired about one-thirdof the endogenous sugars to CO2 and incorporated the rest intostructural compounds. In contrast, the proportion of carbonwhich went to growth in anoxia was very low. Consistent withthese results, endogenous sugar levels were generally highestat low O2 concentrations. Even so, coleoptiles grown and testedas low as 0·03 mol O2 m3 showed appreciable metabolismof exogenous 14C-glucose to CO2, soluble and insoluble compounds,suggesting that a minimal O2 supply was sufficient to sustainsome growth. Furthermore, glucose feeding caused little or norise in O2 uptake or tissue sugar levels. Similarly, the specificactivity of the evolved CO2 was not markedly different in coleoptilesgrowing at 0·03 and 0·25 mol O2 m3 Further evidence was obtained to show that endogenous substrateswere adequate for growth and respiration at both low and highO2 concentrations. Exogenous glucose and malate did not stimulateO2 uptake at any stage of growth in aerated coleoptiles. Therewas sufficient endogenous substrate to sustain a 3545%rise in O2 uptake induced by uncoupling and enrichment withO2. During mid-development (2540 d after pollination: DAP)of the castor bean seed the amount of abscisic acid (ABA) increasesin both the endosperm and the embryo, declining substantiallythereafter until there is little present in the mature dry (60DAP) seed. Premature desiccation of the seed at 35 DAP alsoleads to a major decline in ABA within the embryo and endosperm.Partial water loss from the seed at 35 DAP which, like naturaland premature desiccation, leads to subsequent germination uponreturn of the seed to full hydration, causes a much smallerdecline in ABA levels. In contrast, ABA declines substantiallyin the non-dried (hydrated) control at 35 DAP, but the seedsdo not germinate. Hence, a clear negative correlation betweenABA content and germinability is not observed. Both drying,whether natural or imposed prematurely, and partial drying decreasethe sensitivity of the isolated embryo to exogenous ABA by about10-fold. The protein synthetic response of the castor bean embryo exposedto 0.1 mol m3 ABA following premature desiccation exhibitssome similarity to the response of the non-dried developingembryoin both cases the synthesis of some developmentalproteins is enhanced by ABA, and germination is suppressed.Germination of mature seeds is also suppressed by 0.1 mol m3ABA, but the same developmental proteins are not synthesized.In the cotyledons of prematurely-desiccated seed, some proteinsare hydrolysed upon imbibition in 0.1 mol m3 ABA, a phenomenonthat occurs also in the cotyledons of similarly treated matureembryos, but not in developing non-dried embryos. Hence theembryo exhibits an intermediate response uponrehydration in 0.1 mol m3 ABA following premature desiccation;viz. some of the responses are developmental and some germinative.Following natural or imposed drying, the isolated embryo becomesrelatively insensitive to 0.01 mol m3 ABA: germinationis elicited and post-germinative reserve breakdown occurs inthe radicle and cotyledons. The reduced sensitivity of the embryoto ABA as a consequence of desiccation may be an important factorin eliciting the switch to germination and growth within thewhole seed. Biochemical properties, i.e. endogenous abscisic acid, proline,sugars, respiration, adenosine phosphates and adenylate energycharge, and growth and moisture content were measured duringthe development of seeds of Machilus thunbergii. As dry matteraccumulated in the embryo during development, moisture content,ABA, proline, respiration and sugars all declined. At maturity,the dry mass of the seeds failed to attain a plateau beforethe period of natural seed shedding; the axis and cotyledonsreached moisture contents of 58 and 45%, respectively. Dryingof immature seeds at 73% relative humidity and 25 °C for30 d resulted in a complete loss of viability at all developmentalstages tested with the exception of mature seeds that were ableto tolerate a 5% decrease in moisture content before germinationdeclined. ABA was detected in all embryos tested, with a maximum value16.·16 µg g-1 d. wt about midway through development.Although the presence of ABA induced no tolerance to desiccationof mature seeds, it did coincide with decreased content of waterin the developing seeds and decreased respiration. Desiccationdamage of M. thunbergii seeds occurred when moisture contentwas still high (45%) and this damage was not related to theabsence of oligosaccharides in the mature seeds. We concludethat developing embryos and mature seeds of M. thunbergii haveproperties common to many recalcitrant seeds, with seeds beingsensitive to desiccation at all stages, having a prominent ABApeak, little proline, lacking oligosaccharides, and specifically,little dormancy and a moderate rate of respiration of matureseeds (0·9 µmol O2 min-1 g-1 f. wt). Adenosinetriphosphate content and energy charge decreased from stagefour to stage eight of seed development, then increased againto 103 nmol g-1 d. wt and 0·73, respectively, in matureseeds. Respiratory activity and seasonal changes in carbohydrate contentof the storage organs of Rubus chamaemorus L. have been investigated.Leaf dark respiration rate increases in a non-linear mannerfrom 0·7 mg CO2 evolved dm2 h1 at 0 °Cto 4·6 rng CO2 evolved dm2 hh1 at 30 °C.Root and rhizome respiration rates increase from 1 µ1O2 uptake g1 fresh weight h1 at 0.7 ° C to10 µ10, uptake g1 f. wt h1 at 20 °C.Rhizome carbohydrate reserves decline from a September peakof 33 per cent alcohol insoluble d. wt to 16 per cent in May. The aim of this study was to assess the photosynthetic potentialof developing seeds of oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) andto compare photosynthetic properties of embryo plastids withthose of leaf chloroplasts from the same species. Measurementsof CO2-dependent O2 evolution show that developing seeds ofB. napus are photosynthetically active in vitro. Essentially,all of the photosynthetic activity of the developing seed isaccounted for by the embryo. The rate of photosynthesis by developingembryos increased until the onset of desiccation, after whichit declined, so that by maturity embryos were no longer photosyntheticallyactive. Photosynthetic activity was positively correlated withchlorophyll content throughout development. Comparison of thephotosynthetic characteristics of leaf and embryo chloroplastsrevealed that rates of uncoupled electron transport were 2.5-foldgreater in those from the embryo. Light-saturated rates of CO2-dependentO2 evolution, per unit chlorophyll, and CO2 saturation pointswere similar for chloroplasts from both tissues. However, light-saturationpoints and chlorophyll a/b ratios were lower for embryo thanfor leaf choroplasts. Embryos and embryo chloroplasts also containedconsiderably less ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenaseprotein per unit total protein, than leaves. Although excisedembryos were capable of high rates of CO2-dependent O2 evolution(90100 mol mg1 chlorophyll h1) under asaturating photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD), low transmittanceof light through the silique wall (30%), together with the highPPFD required to achieve light compensation points in developingseeds (500 mol m2 s1), suggests that photosynthesisin vivo is unlikely to make a net contribution to carbon economyunder normal environmental conditions. Community respiration (R) was determined in Bransfield Straitfrom oxygen changes in water samples incubated in borosilicatebottles maintained at in situ temperature. The respiratory electrontransport system (ETS) activity of seawater communities wasalso measured from the same samples. Both data sets were relatedby the regression equation: log R (mg O2 m3 day1)=0.462+0.730xlogETS activity mg O2 m3 day1) (r=0.80, n=23). Fromthis equation and 37 ETS activity depth profiles, we calculatedthe integrated (0100 m) community respiration as beingin the range 1.24.5 g O2 m2 day1 (mean=2.2).These values do not differ significantly from other publishedresults for the Arctic and Antarctic Oceans. Assuming a respiratoryquotient of unity, the areal respiration ranges between 0.45and 1.69 g C m2 day1 (mean=0.8). This would representan important sink for the primary production reported for BransStrait. The spatial distribution of community respiration showedhigher values associated with the warmer and phytoplankton-richwaters outflowing from Gerlache Strait into Bransfield Strait,and with the front that separates Bellingshausen Sea watersfrom Weddell Sea waters. We suggest that this pattern of distributionmay be related to the transport of organic matter by the BransfieldCurrent along the front. 相似文献

Rice seedlings (Oryza saliva L.) were grown in the dark forup to 4 d in solutions containing various concentrations ofO2. Compared with seedlings grown at 0·250 mol O2 m3,the dry weight of the growing seedling was 14% lower at 0·110mol O2 m3 and 60% lower at 0 mol O2 m3. Decreasesin fresh weight were similar but not identical to decreasesin dry weight, possibly because leaf growth was suppressed evenabove 0·110 mol O2 m3. Oxygen deficiency inhibitedroot growth more severely than coleoptile growth. Coleoptiles from seedlings grown in aerated solution were exposedto an atmosphere of pure N2 for 30 min. Anoxia caused a declinein ATP content and energy charge, suggestive of decreased oxidativephosphorylation. It is not clear whether the decline in oxidativephosphorylation was solely responsible for impaired growth inhypoxia. In seedlings growing at O2 concentrations less than 0·110mol O2 m3, significant amounts of ethanol were synthesized.The rate of O2 uptake decreased markedly below 0·06 molO2 m3; this was presumably near the external O2 concentrationat which oxidative phosphorylation became limited by the supplyof O2. The stage of development of the seedlings appeared toinfluence O2 uptake, possibly through changes in conductanceof the tissue to O2. Uncouplers were used to confirm that thecritical O2 concentration was dependent on O2 diffusion ratherthan enzyme kinetics. Impaired growth above 0·110 molO2 m3 may have been due to a decreased activity of oxygenasesof relatively low affinity for O2, which in turn altered cellmetabolism. Quantifying the sensitivity of barley seed germination to oxygen, abscisic acid, and gibberellin using a population-based threshold model 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) seeds (grains) exhibit dormancyat maturity that is largely due to the presence of the glumellae(hulls) that reduce the availability of oxygen (O2) to the embryo.In addition, abscisic acid (ABA) and gibberellins (GAS) interactwith O2 to regulate barley seed dormancy. A population-basedthreshold model was applied to quantify the sensitivities ofseeds and excised embryos to O2, ABA, and GA, and to their interactiveeffects. The median O2 requirement for germination of dormantintact barley seeds was 400-fold greater than for excised embryos,indicating that the tissues enclosing the embryo markedly limitO2 penetration. However, embryo O2 thresholds decreased by anotherorder of magnitude following after-ripening. Thus, increasesin both permeability of the hull to O2 and embryo sensitivityto O2 contribute to the improvement in germination capacityduring after-ripening. Both ABA and GA had relatively smalleffects on the sensitivity of germination to O2, but ABA andGA thresholds varied over several orders of magnitude in responseto O2 availability, with sensitivity to ABA increasing and sensitivityto GA decreasing with hypoxia. Simple additive models of O2–ABAand O2–GA interactions required consideration of theseO2 effects on hormone sensitivity to account for actual germinationpatterns. These quantitative and interactive relationships amongO2, ABA, and GA sensitivities provide insight into how dormancyand germination are regulated by a combination of physical (O2diffusion through the hull) and physiological (ABA and GA sensitivities)factors. In Hevea brasiliensis (Mll. Arg.), increasing the calcium contentof the friable callus maintenance medium from 3 to 9 mM stimulatedregeneration potential through somatic embryogenesis. This stimulationcould be attributed to the homogeneous cytological structureof calluses, which were formed of undifferentiated cells capableof somatic embryogenesis in optimal culture conditions. Thevery marked increase in the active cell population was sufficientto cause a decrease and a stabilization of water and osmoticpotentials of the calluses, whereas their water content increased.The regeneration capacity of calluses cultured on a medium withadditional CaCl2 was greater in terms of both quantity (numberof somatic embryos produced was increased 2-fold) and quality(germination efficiency trebled). High CaCl2 concentrations (9 mM CaCl2) in the embryogenesisinduction medium favoured somatic embryo development when calluseswere maintained 2 months on the same medium. In this case, additionof benzylaminopurine (BAP) and 3,4-dichlorophenoxy- acetic acid(3,4-D) increased the number of embryos produced (243 embryosg1 FW callus) and their germination capacity (27%). These culture conditions were used to determine the optimumembryogenesis induction period. The length of the period affectedboth the intensity of embryogenesis (maximum 5677 d)and somatic embryo quality (maximum 4970 d). The bestresults were obtained with a 70 d embryogenesis induction period,within which 355 embryos g1 FW callus were obtained,with 35% germination. Contrasted Effects of CO2 on the Regulation of Dormancy and Germination in Xanthium pennsylvanicum and Setaria faberi Seeds 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The effects of CO2 on dormancy and germination were examinedusing seeds of cocklebur (Xanthium pennsylvanicum Wallr.) andgiant foxtail (Setaria faberi Herrm.). The rate of germinationof the giant foxtail seeds as well as cocklebur was promotedby exogenously applied CO2 at a concentration of 30 mmol mol-1regardless of the sowing conditions. However, seeds which failedto germinate in the presence of CO2, entered a secondary phaseof dormancy under unfavourable germination conditions. If CO2was applied to seeds under conditions such as water stress imposedwith a 200 mol m-3 mannitol solution, a hypoxic atmosphere of100 mmol mol-1 O2 or a treatment of 0·1 mol m-3 ABA,development of secondary dormancy was accelerated. These contrastedeffects of CO2 were observed in ecological studies. Under naturalfield conditions germination of buried giant foxtail seeds respondedpositively to CO2 during a period of release from primary dormancyfrom Feb. to May, but CO2 accelerated secondary dormancy commencingin early Jun. In other words, in the presence of CO2, both theenvironmental conditions and the germination states of the seedsclearly showed secondary dormancy-inducing effects. Three marine phytoplankton species (Skeletonema costatum, Olisthodiscusluteus andGonyaulax tamarensis) were grown in batch culturesat 15°C and a 14:10 L:D cycle at irradiance levels rangingfrom 5 to 450 µEinst m2 s1. At each irradiance,during exponential growth, concurrent measurements were madeof cell division, carbon-specific growth rate, photosyntheticperformance (both O2 and POC production), dark respiration,and cellular composition in terms of C, N and chlorophyll a.The results indicate that the three species were similar withrespect to chemical composition, C:N (atomic) = 6.9 ±0.4, photo-synthetic quotient, 1.43 ± 0.09, and photosyntheticefficiency, 2.3 ±0.1 x 103 µmol O2 (µgChl a)1 h1 (µEinst m2 s1)1.Differences in maximum growth rate varied as the 0.24power of cell carbon. Differences in growth efficiency, werebest explained by a power function of Chl a:C at µ = 0.Compensation intensities, ranged from 1.1 µEinst m2s1 for S. costatum to 35 forG. tamarensis and were foundto be a linear function of the maintenance respiration rate.The results indicate that interspecific differences in the µIrelationship can be adequately explained in terms of just threeparameters: cell carbon at maximum growth rate, the C:Chl aratio (at the limit as growth approaches zero) and the respirationrate at zero growth rate. A light-limited algal growth modelbased on these results gave an excellent fit to the experimentalµI curves and explained 97% of the observed interspecificvariability.

Epidermal strips from either well-watered or water-stressedplants of Commelina communis L. were subjected to a range ofABA concentrations (106103 mol m3)in the presence (330 parts 106 in air) or virtual absence(3 parts 106 in air) of CO2. The stomatal response toCO2 was greater in epidermis from water-stressed plants, althoughthere was a distinct CO2 response in epidermis from well-wateredplants. Additions of ABA via the incubation medium had littleeffect on the relative CO2 response. Stomata responded to ABAboth in the presence and virtual absence of CO2, but the relativeresponse to ABA was greatest in the high CO2 treatment. Whenwell-watered plants were sprayed with a 101 mol m3ABA solution 1 d prior to use, the stomatal response of detachedepidermis to both CO2 and ABA was very similar to that of epidermisdetached from water-stressed leaves. It is hypothesized thata prolonged exposure to ABA is necessary before there is anymodification of the CO2 response of stomata. 相似文献

Microplanktonic respiration rates were estimated in waters offthe coast of northern Chile (Antofagasta, 23°S) during ElNiño and pre-El Niño conditions. Three cruiseswere conducted during pre-El Niño summer (January/February1997), El Niño winter (July 1997) and El Niñosummer (January 1998). Oxygen consumption was estimated by theWinkler method using a semi-automatic photometric end-pointdetector. The ranges of microplanktonic respiration rates foundwere 0.1121.15, 0.036.25 and 0.069.01 µmolO2 l1 day1 during pre-El Niño summer, ElNiño winter and El Niño summer, respectively.Significant differences were found between winter and summerrespiration rates (non-integrated and integrated). The meanintegrated respiration (mixed layer) for pre-El Niñosummer, El Niño winter and El Niño summer was95 ± 51 (SD) mmol O2 m2 day1, 50 ±23 (SD) mmol O2 m2 day1 and 63 ± 32 (SD)mmol O2 m2 day1, respectively. The strong seasonalsignal detected in microplanktonic integrated respiration inthe area seems to be characteristic of the pre-El Niño/ElNiño 199798 period. The integrated respirationrates found off Antofagasta are similar to reported values forthe upwelling area off Peru despite methodological differences.A positive significant correlation was found between respirationand water temperature (r = 0.76, P 相似文献

Measured by GCMS2SIR3, endogenous ABA4 in embryonicaxes of seeds of Malus pumila L. cv. Golden Delicious decreased8-fold and cotyledon ABA by only 60%, during 1050 d ofstratification at 5 ?C, after ABA leaching during an initial24 h soaking. During stratification, the percentage germinationof embryos transferred to 17?C showed a significant linear dependenceon loge of ABA levels in the axes at transfer. Between 50 and70 d, ABA levels increased markedly in axes and testa both ofstratified seeds and seeds allowed to re-dry at 17 ?C afterinitial soaking. The ability of fully stratified axes with elevatedendogenous ABA to germinate indicated that stratification haddecreased their ABA sensitivity. Changes in cotyledon ABA couldnot account for the promotory effect of cotyledons on germinationduring the first 30 d of stratification. Loss of testa inhibitionof germination during stratification was not linked with changesin testa ABA. Stratification markedly increased the sequestrationin the axes of exogenous ABA supplied via the cotyledons. Changesboth in axis ABA levels and sensitivity were thus correlatedwith dormancy release, but subject to modifying control by thecotyledons and testa not involving ABA. The contribution of HCO3to photosynthetic O2 evolutionin the seagrass Zostera muelleri Irmisch ex Aschers. increasedwith increasing salinity of the bathing seawater when the inorganiccarbon concentration was kept constant. K1/2 (seawater salts)for HCO3 -dependent photosynthesis was 66% of seawatersalinity. Both short- and long-term pretreatment at low salinitiesstimulated photosynthesis in full strength seawater. Twentyfour hours pre-incubation of seagrass plants in 3·0 molm3 NaHCO3 resulted in increased photosynthesis at allsalinities, apparently due to stimulation of HCO3 use(K1/2 (seawater salts) = 26%). Vmax (HCO3) was not affectedby low salinity pretreatment. The kinetics of HCO3 stimulationby the major seawater cations was investigated. Ca2+ was themost effective cation with the highest Vmax (HCO3) andwith K1/2(Ca2+) = 14 mol m3. Mg2+ was also very effectiveat less than 50 mol m3 but higher concentrations wereinhibitory. This inhibition cannot be accounted for solely byprecipitation of MgCO3. Na+ and K+ were both capable of stimulatingHCO3 use. Stimulation was in two distinct parts. Up to500 mol m3, both citrate and chloride salts gave similarresults (K1/2(Na+) 81 mol m3, Vmax(HCO3) 0·26µmol O2 mg1 chl min1), but use of citratesalts above 500 mol m2 caused a second stimulation ofHCO3 use (K1/2(Na+) 830 mol m3, Vmax(HCO3)0·68 µmol O2 mg1 chl min1). Vmax(HCO3)for the second-phase Na+ or K+ stimulation was of the same orderas for Ca2+-stimulated HCO3 use. To further characterizesalt-dependent HCO3 use, the sensitivity of photosynthesisto Tris and TES buffers was investigated. The effects of Trisappear to be due to the action of Tris+ causing stimulationof HCO3 -dependent photosynthesis in the absence of salt,but inhibition of HCO3 use in saline media. Stomatal Functioning of In Vitro and Greenhouse Apple Leaves in Darkness, Mannitol, ABA, and CO2 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Leaves from in vitro and greenhouse cultured plants of Malusdomestica (Borkh.) cv. Mark were subjected to 4 h of darkness;4 h of 1 M mannitol induced water stress; 1 h of 104M to 107 M cis-trans abscisic acid (ABA) treatment; 1h of 0.12% atmospheric CO2. Stomatal closure was determinedby microscopic examination of leaf imprints. In all treatments,less than 5% of the stomata from leaves of in vitro culturedplants were closed. The diameter of open stomata on leaves fromin vitro culture remained at 8 µm. In contrast, an averageof 96% of the stomata on leaves of greenhouse grown plants wereclosed after 4 h in darkness; 56% after 4 h of mannitol inducedwater stress; 90% after 1 h of 104 M ABA treatment; 61%after 1 h in an atmosphere of 0.12% CO2. Stomata of in vitroapple leaves did not seem to have a closure mechanism, but acquiredone during acclimatization to the greenhouse environment. Thelack of stomatal closure in in vitro plants was the main causeof rapid water loss during transfer to low relative humidity. 相似文献

A system was developed to test the effects of floodwater O2concentration on ethylene evolution and stem lenticel hypertrophy,and the effects of exogenous ethylene on stem lenticel hypertrophyin mango (Mangifera indica L.) trees. Dissolved O2 concentrationsof 17x109 m3 m3 generally resulted in hypertrophyof stem lenticels within about 6 d of flooding, whereas floodwaterO2 concentrations of 1315 x 109 m3 m3 delayedhypertrophy until about day 9. After 14d of flooding, therewere more than twice the number of hypertrophied lenticels pertree with floodwater O2 concentrations of 17 x 109m3 m3 than with floodwater O2 concentrations of 15 x109 m3 m3. Ethylene evolution from stem tissueimmediately above the floodline increased 4- to 8-fold in treesexposed to floodwater O2 concentrations of 12 x 109m3 m3, increased 2-fold for trees exposed to floodwaterO2 concentrations of 67 x 109 m3 m3, butremained constant with floodwater O2 concentrations of 1315x 109 m3 m3. Plants maintained in highly oxygenatedfloodwater (1315 x 109 m3 m3), and givenexogenous ethylene developed many hypertrophied lenticels, whereasplants in highly oxygenated water and not given ethylene developedfewer or nohypertrophied lenticels. These data suggest thatethylene plays a role in promotion of stem lenticel hypertrophyin flooded mango trees, and that floodwater dissolved oxygenconcentration can regulate stem lenticel hypertrophy and ethyleneevolution in this species. The seasonal time course of phytoplankton primary productivitywas studied weekly in a hypertrophic, gravel-pit lake closeto Madrid, Spain. Chlorophyll a ranged 22445 mg m2.Gross primary productivity attained 0.28±0.14 g C m2h1 (range: 0.060.60), its yearly value being 900g C m2, but the shallow euphotic depths and the highplankton respiration ensured that net productivity was generallylow. Respiration losses amounted to 0.31±0.24 g O2 m2h1, with phytoplankton respiration roughly attainingone-half of overall plankton respiration. Areal phytoplanktonproductivity and plankton respiration followed a seasonal trendbut this was not the case for photosynthetic capacity. Surfacephotoinhibition was evenly distributed throughout the study.Quantum yields showed an increasing depth trend, but no seasonaltrend. Both Pmax and Ik were both temperature- and irradiance-dependent.As compared with lakes of lesser trophic degree, phytoplanktonprimary production in hypertrophic lakes might be increasednot only by higher nutrient contents but also by low chlorophyll-specificattenuation coefficients and low background, non-algal attenuation,thereby allowing for higher areal chlorophyll contents and hencehigher areal productivity. Our study suggests that physical(irradiance and water column stability) as well as chemicalfeatures (dissolved inorganic carbon and soluble reactive phosphorus)may control seasonality of phytoplankton primary productionin this lake despite recent claims that only physical factorsare of significance in hypertrophic lakes. However, this doesnot explain all the variability observed and so a food web controlis also likely to be operating. 相似文献
