Wild populations of five Chirocephalus species from Italy were tested for their fatty acid profiles, particularly essential fatty acids (EFA) in order to obtain information on species differences. Chirocephalus diaphanus, C. kerkyrensis and C. salinus were from temporary plain pools, whereas C. ruffoi and C. marchesonii came from a mountain pool and an astatic high altitude lake. Statistical comparisons of the results obtained revealed significant (P < 0.05) qualitative and quantitative differences among the species studied. Besides genetic make-up, other factors are presumably involved in these differences. Among these, environmental stability, and hence food quality and quantity, may play a major role, an hypothesis supported by previous findings regarding the possibility of manipulating fairy shrimp fatty acid patterns by using different diets. Further investigation is needed, however, on the fatty acid composition of the food resources from different habitats in relation to the fairy shrimp inhabitants. Contrary to larval essential fatty acid (EFA) requirements, the effect of dietary neutral lipid supply has been little investigated in marine fish larvae. The present work investigates the effect of feeding Senegalese sole larvae on Artemia enriched with higher or lower doses of lipid emulsion. Two lipid sources - soybean oil and fish oil - were compared. From 16 days after hatching (DAH) onwards, larvae were fed one of four experimental treatments: Artemia enriched on a high or low dose of soybean oil emulsion (HS and LS) or Artemia enriched on a high or low dose of fish oil emulsion (HF and LF). In terms of growth, the dietary lipid level did not have a significant effect while the soybean oil treatments induced a lower growth than the fish oil-enriched Artemia. The fatty acid (FA) composition of the larvae closely reflected the dietary quantitative and qualitative FA profile. Only slight dietary effects were noted in the activity of trypsin, lipase and alkaline phosphatase. A higher amount of lipid droplets was noticeable in the posterior intestine epithelia and in the hepatocytes of larvae fed Artemia enriched with higher lipid doses, while LS-Artemia induced the lower lipid accumulation on the basal zone of the enterocytes, in accordance with the lowest total lipid level measured in this treatment. These results suggest an important effect of dietary total lipid level on lipid accumulation in the enterocytes and on FA absorption. At 33 DAH a tube feeding trial was conducted with 14C-labelled oleic acid (OA) or triolein (TRI), showing that the lower accumulation of lipid droplets in the larvae fed LS was associated with a significantly higher absorption and retention in the gut and body tissues of the TRI label. For OA no significant differences between treatments were found. TRI label was considerably more evacuated than OA, indicating that sole larvae may have a lower capacity to incorporate a triacylglycerol, which needs to be digested. Finally, OA appears to be preferentially utilized for energy production, accumulating more in larval tissues when absorbed in higher amounts.  相似文献

1. A wide range of species that are cultivated in commercial mariculture are planktonic during at least part of their life cycle; for example, the larval stages of shellfish (shrimp and molluscs) and the live feeds (rotifers, brine shrimp, copepods) used in the larviculture of marine fish and shellfish. Over the last decades various techniques have been developed to deliver nutrients to these zooplanktonic organisms either through artificial diets or by manipulating the composition of the live prey fed to the carnivorous stages. This paper reviews the methodology that has allowed aquaculturists to gain knowledge of nutritional requirements and may offer interesting opportunities for ecologists to verify the importance of key nutrients in the natural food chain of marine as well as freshwater ecosystems.

Live micro-algae can be replaced partially or completely in the diet of filter-feeders such as rotifers, Artemia , shrimp larvae and bivalves, by various types of preserved algae, micro-encapsulated diets and yeast-based diets, whereas lipid emulsions and liposomes may be utilized to supplement specific lipid-and water-soluble nutrients, respectively. Microbound and micro-encapsulated diets have been designed to supplement live feed in the culture of micro-predators such as fish and shrimp larvae.

Live prey organisms, in particular rotifers and Artemia , can be 'bio-encapsulated' with a variety of enrichment diets to manipulate their content in certain nutrients, including ω3 highly unsaturated fatty acids (FA) and the vitamins C, A and E. Nevertheless, the enrichment techniques are not applicable for all nutrients and prey organisms. Phospholipid composition is difficult to manipulate through the diet of live feed and the enrichment of the essential FA docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is hampered in most Artemia species due to the catabolism of this FA following enrichment.  相似文献

Atlantic herring larvae ( Clupea harengus ) were fed two enriched Artemia diets with different contents of (n-3) highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA), one containing low levels of 20: 5(n-3) and no 22: 6(n-3), the other containing substantial levels of both 20: 5(n-3) and 22: 6(n-3). After 30 days of culture, fatty acid compositions of lipid classes in the heads, bodies and eyes of the larvae were analysed. Fish fed Artemia with the low (n-3) HUFA diet lacking 22: 6(n-3) had lower amounts of total (n-3)HUFA and, in particular, of 22:6(n-3) in individual phospholipids and total neutral lipids of heads, bodies and eyes as compared to fish fed Artemia with high levels of (n-3)HUFA. The amount of 22: 6(n-3) in the fatty acids of phosphatidyl-ethanolamine of eyes was particularly susceptible to dietary depletion. The implications of these findings are discussed, particularly in relation to dietary requirements for 22: 6(n-3) during development of neural tissue in predatory fish iarvae.  相似文献

为了提高养殖卤虫的饵料营养价值,了解其不同生长阶段营养成分变化情况,采用单因子试验研究了8种饵料(三角褐指藻、小球藻、微绿球藻、酵母液、三角褐指藻+小球藻+微绿球藻、三角褐指藻+酵母液、小球藻+酵母液和微绿球藻+酵母液)对卤虫生长、总脂含量及脂肪酸组成的影响,结果表明:不同饵料种类对卤虫生长、总脂含量及脂肪酸组成的影响显著(P<0.05),增长率,以三角褐指藻+酵母液最优;总脂含量、以三角褐指藻最优(19.67%),除酵母液外,与其它饵料相差不显著(P>0.05);脂肪酸组成效果,以微绿球藻组最优(EPA:18.01%,DNA:0.55%,(n-3)HUFA:19.08%),与三角褐指藻组相差不大(P>0.05),显著高于其它各组(P>0.05).同时以三角褐指藻为饵料,研究了卤虫不同生长阶段(体长2、4、6、8、10 mm)总脂含量、脂肪酸组成变化,结果表明:卤虫体长2~10 mm总脂含量为14.27%~20.93%,随体长的增长降低;EPA、DHA及(n-3)HUFA的含量,均随体长的增长降低,EPA含量为:10.47%~20.77%,DNA含量为:0~0.70%,(n-3)HUFA含量为:10.85%~22.01%.结论认为,卤虫以三角褐指藻或三角褐指藻+酵母液为饵料培养营养价值最佳,其体长小于6 mm营养价值较佳.  相似文献

The fairy shrimps Chirocephalus kerkyrensis and C. diaphanus show a high EFA concentration as compared with other marine and freshwater organisms. Based on its 18:3w3 and 20:5w3 FA pattern, C. kerkyrensis is comparable with marine-type Artemia; C. diaphanus, on the contrary, is rich in both these essential fatty acids. Both species contain 22:6w3, a fatty acid seldom found in Artemia.  相似文献

Juvenile soft-shelled turtles (Pelodiscus sinensis) were fed 7 diets containing 8% of lard, soybean oil, olive oil, menhaden fish oil, or mixtures of 1 to 1 ratio of fish oil and lard, soybean oil, olive oil for 10 weeks. Growth and muscle proximate compositions of the turtles were not affected by different dietary treatments (p>0.05). Fatty acid profiles in muscle polar lipids, muscle non-polar lipids, and liver polar lipids reflected the fatty acid composition of dietary lipid source. Turtles fed diets containing fish oil generally contained significantly higher (p<0.05) proportion of highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA) in both polar and non-polar lipids of muscle and polar fraction of liver lipids than those fed other oils. Non-polar fraction of liver lipids from all groups of turtles contained less than 1% of HUFA. All turtles contained relatively high proportions of oleic acid in their lipids regardless of the dietary lipid source. Further, lipid peroxidation in both muscle tissue and liver microsomes of turtles fed fish oil as the sole lipid source was greater (p<0.05) than those fed fish oil-free diets. Turtles fed olive oil as the sole lipid source had the lowest lipid peroxidation rate among all dietary groups. The results indicate that dietary n-3 HUFA may not be crucial for optimal growth of soft-shelled turtles although they may be used for metabolic purpose. Further, high level of dietary HUFA not only increases the HUFA content in turtle tissues, but also enhances the susceptibility of these tissues to lipid peroxidation.  相似文献

The production of unicellular algae is laborious and is a major constraint for the culturing of aquatic filter-feeders. Because of their small particle size and their high protein content yeasts are considered as a promising substitute for micro-algae. Furthermore, recent work has shown that baker's yeast can be converted into a digestible diet for Artemia by chemical treatment. The present study documents the use at laboratory scale of this manipulated yeast as an algal substitute for the culture of two anostracan species. The experiments were conducted with the brine shrimp artemia franciscana and the fairy shrimp Streptocephalus proboscideus. A similar experimental set-up was used for both species. The algal diet, consisting of Dunaliella tertiolecta for A. franciscana and Selenastrum capricornutum for S. proboscideus, was substituted at various levels by two types of treated baker's yeast: a fresh form and a dried product which was rich in highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA). The chemically-treated yeast offers promising possibilities as an algal substitute for Artemia; i.e. replacing 75% of the algae by the dried yeast resulted in similar survival and even higher growth rates in comparison with the reference algal diet; for the treated fresh yeast similar results could be achieved by up to 95% substitution. For S. proboscideus, a substitution of 75% by either of the yeast products resulted in good survival, though growth did not exceed 80% of the observed growth in the algal control. A diet consisting solely of yeast resulted in poor survival for larvae of both species. Experiments were run to investigate whether this was due to a sub-optimal feeding regime, nutritional deficiencies, or deterioration of the water quality.  相似文献

Marine larval nutrition studies have classically focused on essential fatty acid (EFA) requirements and very little is known regarding the effect of total lipid level or lipid source on food ingestion and absorption, which are important factors determining growth. In the present work two experiments analysed food intake and nutrient absorption in seabream larvae in response to two dietary lipid levels (17-18% and 25-28%). The first experiment tested Artemia enriched on two levels of a fish oil emulsion (higher and lower—HF and LF, respectively), while in the second experiment larvae were co-fed Artemia enriched on one of two levels of a soybean oil emulsion and a microdiet (MD) containing one of two levels of soybean oil as the main lipid source (higher and lower—HS and LS, respectively). Food intake and nutrient absorption were determined by performing radioactive trials using Artemia radiolabelled with [1-14C] oleic acid in the first experiment (at 26 and 33 days after hatching—DAH) and MD labelled with [1-14C] oleic acid or glycerol tri[1-14C] oleate (31 and 32 DAH) in the second experiment. The dietary treatments did not induce significant differences in larval dry weight in the first experiment, while food intake was significantly higher and nutrient absorption significantly lower in larvae fed the HF diet, compared to the LF treatment. In the second experiment, a significantly higher dry weight was achieved by larvae fed on the LS diet, which was also significantly more ingested and absorbed. The fish oil experiment supports the hypothesis that a higher food intake may cause a decrease in nutrient absorption efficiency, possibly through a faster gut transit, but in the soybean oil experiment total absorption appears to have simply reflected food intake. The results show that dietary lipid level significantly affects larval food intake and absorption efficiency but the effect was dependent on lipid source, suggesting that dietary fatty acid (FA) composition might be a more determinant factor than total lipid level. Food intake was apparently not regulated to meet a requirement for EFA. Lipid source or FA composition may regulate food intake through pre- or post-absorptive mechanisms, such as through effects on palatability, digestibility and stimulation of neuroendocrine pathways.  相似文献

The use of Artemia salina nauplii as live food has significantly aided culture of commercial fish and shrimps in recent years. However, reported deficiencies in the nutritional value of some strains originated the study of freshwater fairy shrimps as an alternative to Artemia. This study presents cyst biometry for Dendrocephalus geayi and D. spartaenovae (Anostraca: Thamnocephalidae), and the effects of some physicochemical variables on cyst hatching. The biometric characteristics of D. geayi and D. spartaenovae are within the size range of commercial Artemia strains. Favorable conditions to hatch D. geayi are 30 degrees C and conductivity near that of distilled water (<5 micromhos). For D. spartaenovae, these conditions are 28 degrees C and 280 micromhos. A very low salinity such as 1 per thousand inhibits hatching in both species.  相似文献

1. We used laboratory growth and feeding experiments to evaluate the role of ω3 highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA) in zooplankton nutrition. Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) comprised 40% of total fatty acids (FA) in the green alga Scenedesmus acutus but only 6% in the cyanobacterium Synechococcus elongatus.Scenedesmus contained modest amounts of the ω3 HUFA eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20 : 5ω3) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22 : 6ω3), whereas Synechococcus contained only a trace of EPA and no DHA. 2. One-day-old Daphnia maintained high growth rates for 2–3 days on a diet of Synechococcus but exhibited reduced growth or even lost weight over the later part of the 6- or 7-day experiments. Daphnia magna grew better than D. galeata or D. pulicaria on a diet of pure Synechococcus. Daphnids fed the same concentration (0.5 mgC l–1) of green algae or a mixture of green algae and Synechococcus maintained high growth rates. 3. Supplementing Synechococcus with fish oil emulsions rich in ω3 HUFA markedly improved the growth and reproduction of all three Daphnia species. Supplementation with an emulsion of monounsaturated oleic acid (18 : 1ω9), however, did not affect the growth of D. galeata and caused a decrease in the growth of D. magna. 4. Short-term (7 min) and long-term (3 h) feeding trials with 14C-labelled Synechococcus were used to evaluate the effects of acclimation and mixed diets on carbon incorporation. D. galeata that had fed on unlabelled Synechococcus for 3 days exhibited no decline in clearance rate but a marked decline in carbon incorporation in comparison with animals acclimated with Scenedesmus or fed a mixture of Synechococcus and Scenedesmus. 5. Our results support the hypothesis that the poor nutritional quality of a cyanobacterium is at least partially due to a HUFA deficiency. Growth and feeding experiments both suggest that the utilization of Synechococcus is enhanced by HUFA from lipid reserves or a mixed diet.  相似文献

The shrimp Macrobrachium amazonicum (Heller 1862) has an extremely large geographic range (>4000?km across) in northern and central South America, comprising estuarine and fully limnic inland populations, which are hydrologically isolated from each other. Significant variations in ecology, physiology, reproduction, and larval development suggest an at least incipient allopatric speciation due to limited genetic exchange. In a comparative experimental investigation with shrimps from the Pantanal (upper Paraguay River basin) and the Amazon delta, respectively, we measured larval body size, dry weight (W), biochemical (total protein; lipid; fatty acids, FA), and elemental composition (carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen; collectively CHN) at hatching. All these early larval traits are relevant for the degree of developmental dependence on planktonic food sources. Various consistent differences were observed between the two populations: Newly hatched larvae produced by shrimps from the Amazon delta were significantly smaller and showed lower values of W, CHN, protein, and unsaturated FA compared to those from the Pantanal. On the other hand, they contained significantly higher quantities of total lipid and saturated FA and, in consequence, higher ratios of lipid:protein, C:N, and saturated:unsaturated FA. All these differences in biomass and chemical composition suggest that the larvae of the Amazon population are energetically better adapted to planktonic food limitation, which likely occurs during riverine downstream transport toward coastal marine waters, also explaining previous observations of much stronger initial starvation tolerance in larvae from the Amazon versus those from the Pantanal. The latter develop in highly productive lentic inland waters, where large body size, an early onset of feeding, and a strong musculature (indicated by a high protein content) should facilitate their role as planktonic predators and allow for fast growth. An initial independence from food (lecithotrophy in the zoea I stage) as well as a preference for oligohaline rather than fully limnic conditions observed in the Pantanal larvae are interpreted as traits that have persisted from an ancestral coastal marine clade. Altogether, consistent ontogenetic differences between shrimps from the Pantanal and the Amazon estuary support the hypothesis that the taxon M. amazonicum comprises a complex of closely related but separate species.  相似文献

Dietary lipids, and in particular the essential fatty acids (EFA), EPA (20:5ω3) and DHA (22:6ω3), guarantee the well-being of animals and are recognized for their potential bottom-up control on animal populations. They are introduced in marine ecosystems through primary producers and when grazed upon, they are consumed, incorporated or modified by first-level consumers. As the availability of EFA in the ecosystem is affected by ambient temperature, the predicted rise in ocean temperature might alter the availability of these EFA at the basis of marine food webs. Despite the FA bioconversion capacity of certain benthic copepod species, their lipid (FA) response to varying temperatures is understudied. Therefore, the temperate, intertidal copepod Platychelipus littoralis was offered a mono and mixed diatom diet at 4, 15 °C (normal range) and at 24 °C (elevated temperature) to investigate the combined effects of temperature and resource availability on its FA content and composition. P. littoralis showed a flexible thermal acclimation response. Cold exposure increased the degree of FA unsaturation and the EPA%, and induced a shift towards shorter chain FA in the copepod’s membranes. Furthermore, a mixed diet reduced the impact of heat stress on the copepod’s membrane FA composition. Temperature affected the trophic transfer of EPA and DHA differently. While dietary resources could fully compensate for the temperature effects on total lipid and EPA content in the copepods, no such counterweigh was observed for the DHA dynamics. Heat stress lowered the DHA concentration in copepods regardless of the resources available and this implies negative effects for higher trophic levels.  相似文献

Two feeding experiments were conducted to evaluate the growth and survival rates of tench Tinca tinca L. larvae when initially fed with a combination of three different brands of Artemia nauplii under two conditions: (A) in the laboratory and (B) on a commercial farm. At the same time, a protozoan culture of the freshwater ciliate Colpoda cucullus was additionally tested in one of the experiments to possibly enhance the initial hunting behaviour of the larvae. The larvae were fed every 4 h from the onset of exogenous feeding up to 14 days of age. Three types of commercial Artemia products, mainly differing in size and high unsaturated fatty acid (HUFA) content, were used. One group was fed with C. cucullus as a starter. The different combinations of Artemia nauplii were used to evaluate possible effects on larval growth. The final growth at 26.3 °C, expressed in length and weight, did not show significant differences, suggesting the use of the most economically feasible Artemia strain studied. The experiments confirmed that using smaller prey during the first 2 days of feeding increases their survival rate, although the mean final survival rate was high (89%). In the experiment carried out at the commercial fish farm facilities, experimental groups were also fed with Artemia nauplii, using the EG type either enriched or not enriched with HUFA. Again, one of the groups was offered the ciliate C. cucullus as initial feed. Final growth showed significant differences when using Colpoda culture as a starter feed, although this test resulted in the lowest survival rate (69%), indicating that further studies on the management of its culture should be undertaken to improve the applicability of the technique. Four different approaches were combined to determine the nutritional relevance of debris chambers in the burrows of two thalassinidean shrimps: (1) the natural abundance of carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes in potential food sources, (2) their nutritional value based on the content and composition of essential nutrients, (3) a dual labelling experiment with shrimp in aquaria employing 15N- and 13C-labelled seagrass debris and (4) ration estimates using the acquisition rate of plant debris by the shrimps. The results of the four approaches confirmed the use of plant debris as a food source. Based on the natural abundance of stable isotopes, Corallianassa longiventris apparently relies on the chamber content and the burrow wall as sources of carbon and nitrogen, whereas Pestarella tyrrhena probably relies on ambient debris and on benthic foraminiferans and microphytobenthos in the surface sediment. Corallianassa longiventris obtains its essential nutrients predominantly from chamber debris and to a lesser extent from its burrow wall, P. tyrrhena from chamber debris, the burrow wall and the surface sediment. Among the essential nutrients, those amino acids commonly deficient to deposit feeders were particularly enriched in the burrow environments of the two shrimps. Highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFAs) were lacking in all of C. longiventris potential food sources; this species may either be able to synthesize them de novo from linolic acid or may use another unknown source. For P. tyrrhena, surface sediment and chamber debris represent potential HUFA sources. The most probable thiamine and β-carotene supplier for C. longiventris is the chamber debris, for P. tyrrhena again the surface sediment. In both species, the rate of debris introduction into the burrow is sufficient to meet the nutritional demand.  相似文献

In fast growing organisms, like fish larvae, fatty acids provided through live prey are essential to satisfy high energy demand and are required to promote growth. Therefore, in recent decades, a great amount of research has been directed towards the development of lipid enrichment in order to improve larval fish survival and growth. However, in fish, the biochemical and molecular processes related to highly unsaturated fatty acid (HUFA) administration are still poorly understood. In the current study, the false percula clownfish, a short larval phase marine species, was used as an experimental model and the effects of a standard and a HUFAs-enriched diet were tested through a molecular, biochemical, ultrastructural and morphometric approach. Our results support the hypothesis that HUFA administration may improve larval development through the presence of better structured mitochondria, a higher synthesis of energy compounds and coenzymes with a central position in the metabolism, with respect to controls. This higher energy status was confirmed by better growth performance and a shorter larval phase in larvae fed with an enriched diet with respect to the control. This strategy of rapid growth and early energy storage may be considered positively adaptive and beneficial to the survival of this species.  相似文献

Larval sea bass Dicentrarchus labrax of 27 days old were reared on Artemia enriched with Super Selco©, Tuna Orbital Oil or Yeast. The first diet is commonly used in mariculture for larval rearing, the second diet was designed to deliver an optimal docosahexaenoic acid (22: 6n-3) to eicosapentaenoic acid (20: 5n-3) ratio, and the third diet was deficient in docosahexaenoic acid (22: 6n-3). The eyes of these larvae were analysed after 28 days and the molecular species of the three main phospholipid classes, phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and phosphatidylserine (PS) determined. Eyes from larvae fed Artemia enriched with yeast showed large decreases in molecular species containing 22: 6n-3 compared to those supplemented with tuna orbital oil, most notably in 16: 0/22: 6n-3 PC which fell from 10.6 to 0.4%, in 22: 6n-3/22: 6n-3 and 18: 1/22: 6n-3 PE which fell from 29.6 to 0.3% and from 10.8 to 1.1% respectively, and in 22: 6n-3/22: 6n-3 PS which fell from 34.3 to 1.7%. Molecular species containing all other fatty acids, and especially 20: 5n-3, were elevated in eyes from the yeast-supplemented fish. In larvae fed Artemia enriched with Super Selco, amounts of eye 22: 6n-3/22: 6n-3 phospholipid were slightly lower in all three phospholipid classes compared to eyes from the tuna orbital oil-supplemented larvae. There was also a trend of decreased saturated fatty acid/22: 6n-3 and monounsaturated fatty acid/22: 6n-3 molecular species in all classes from the Super Selco-supplemented fish, the deficits being made up with molecular species containing 20: 5n-3 and 22: 5n-3. These results are discussed in relation to larval viability with particular respect to visual function.  相似文献

We examined biochemical changes accompanying feeding and starvation from hatch to Stage VI (day 74 after hatch) in spiny lobster, Jasus edwardsii, phyllosoma larvae. Larval dry weights (dw) increased 17-fold from hatch (80+/-1 microg) to Stage VI (1415+/-44 microg). Larvae starved for 6-11 days at Stages II, IV and VI were 14-40% lighter than their fed counterparts fed enriched Artemia. The increases and losses in total dry weight during feeding and starvation were associated with changes in the content of protein (constituting 31.4-41.7% of dw) and carbohydrate (constituting 2.6-5.3% of dw), while larger changes in lipid content indicated its greater importance as an energy substrate. Lipid content increased from 7.9% of dw at hatch to its highest of 12.5% at Stage IV, but declined by 50% or more during starvation. This suggests that protein, carbohydrate and lipid are all important energy stores, although lipids are catabolized at a greater rate during food deprivation. The principal lipid class was polar lipid (PL; 79-92% of total lipid), followed by sterol (ST; 6-20%), with triacylglycerol and other lipid classes at <2%. PL were catabolized and ST were conserved during starvation. Changes in the fatty acid (FA) profile had mostly occurred before the first moult at day 8 after hatch, with gradual changes thereafter to Stage VI, reflecting their abundance in the Artemia diet. There was some conservation of the major essential FAs, 20:4n-6, 20:5n-3, 22:6n-3, and the FA profile showed large gains in the C(18) polyunsaturated FA, 18:1n-9, 18:2n-6. Ascorbic acid content increased 10-fold from hatch to the end of Stage I (36 and 333 microgg(-1) dw, respectively), while the content at the end of Stage II was higher in fed than that in starved larvae (439 and 174 microgg(-1) dw, respectively). Our study will assist in the development of alternatives to nutritionally incomplete diets, such as live ongrown Artemia, to meet the requirements of phyllosoma in culture.  相似文献

This paper reviews evidence that the fatty acid composition of dietary lipids influences the respiratory and cardiovascular physiology of Adriatic sturgeon {Acipenser naccarii) and, thereby, their tolerance of the stress of hypoxia. Sturgeon fed a commercial diet enriched in fish oil (menhaden oil as 15% of dry feed weight), with an elevated content of highly unsaturated fatty acids of the co3 series (ω3 HUFA), had a significantly lower standard metabolic rate (SMR) and routine oxygen consumption (Mo2) than those fed a diet enriched with the same quantity of hydrogenated coconut oil, with an elevated content of saturated fatty acids (SFA). Both groups grew equally well. As a result of this difference in aerobic metabolism, sturgeon fed the w3 HUFA and SFA responded differently when exposed to hypoxic challenges. Sturgeon fed w3 HUFA exhibited no significant reflex hyperventilation when exposed to mild, moderate or deep hypoxia (30 min at water 02 partial pressures of 10.8, 6.6 and 4.6 kPa, respectively), no hypoxic depression of spontaneous activity during 3h in mild hypoxia, and no depression of Mo2 during 3h in moderate hypoxia, unlike sturgeon fed SFA. The diets also influenced the performance of isolated hearts in vitro. Hearts from fish fed o3 HUFA maintained maximum in vitro cardiac power output unchanged when oxygen supply was reduced (O2 content from 2.3 to 0.7 vol.%), unlike hearts from sturgeon fed SFA. Overall, the results indicate that dietary fatty acid composition can influence tolerance of hypoxia in sturgeon, through effects on SMR. When compared to sturgeon fed SFA, those fed co3 HUFA had lower SMR and were more tolerant of hypoxia, with effects both on the whole animal and on the isolated heart.  相似文献

Spray-dried milk enriched with n-3 fatty acids from linseed oil (LSO) or fish oil (FO) were fed to rats to study its influence on liver lipid peroxides, hepatic antioxidant enzyme activities, serum prostaglandins and platelet aggregation. Significant level of α linolenic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid were accumulated at the expense of arachidonic acid in the liver of rats fed n-3 fatty acid enriched formulation. The linseed oil and fish oil enriched formulation fed group had 44 and 112% higher level of lipid peroxides in liver homogenate compared to control rats fed groundnut oil enriched formulation. Catalase activity in liver homogenate was increased by 37 and 183% respectively in linseed oil and fish oil formulation fed rats. The glutathione peroxidase activity decreased to an extent of 25–36% and glutathione transferase activity increased to an extent of 34–39% in rats fed n-3 fatty acids enriched formulation. Feeding n-3 fatty acid enriched formulation significantly elevated the n-3 fatty acids in platelets and increased the lipid peroxide level to an extent of 4.2 to 4.5-fold compared to control. The serum thromboxane B2 level was decreased by 35 and 42% respectively in linseed oil and fish oil enriched formulation fed rats, whereas 6-keto-prostaglandin F1α level was decreased by 17 and 23% respectively in linseed oil and fish oil enriched formulation fed rats. The extent and rate of platelet aggregation was decreased significantly in n-3 fatty acids enriched formulation fed rats. This indicated that n-3 fatty acids enriched formulation beneficially reduces platelet aggregation and also enhances the activities of hepatic antioxidant enzymes such as catalase and glutathione transferase.  相似文献
