Branch internodes of mature plants and stem internodes of seedlings of Fortunella hindsii flowered in vitro on half-strength MT (Murashige and Tucker 1969) basal medium supplemented with benzyladenine, adenine, 6---dimethylallylaminopurine and kinetin. The highest percentage of flowering was achieved with explants originating from branch internodes of flowering plants close to the apex on half-strength MT basal medium containing 5% sucrose and 0.01 mg 1–1 BA in light. Exposure to darkness for more than 3 weeks followed by re-exposure to light reduced flowering. Flowering required a 4-day exposure to BA, but shoot formation could be initiated even without exposure to BA. First branch internode segments on MT basal medium containing 5% sucrose were prolific in flower (85%) production. The sucrose treatment affected the flower bud size distribution. There were about 13 flower buds per culture in the largest size category (>5 mm).  相似文献

Peach flowers are often killed during bloom by spring frosts. LAB 173711, a compound with abscisic (ABA)-like activity, and ethephon delayed flowering in peach trees. In greenhouse experiments, LAB 173711, at concentrations of 10–3–10–2 M, was most effective in delaying bloom when applied after a 5°C cold storage period, rather than before the dormancy breaking treatment. In contrast, ethephon delayed bloom most effectively when applied before 5°C cold storage; ethephon caused flower bud abscission when treatments were made after the chilling requirement had been satisfied. In field experiments, ethephon delayed flowering by 6–7 days, which reduced bud injury after a spring frost during bloom. No flower bud injury was found on ethephon-treated trees after temperatures of –4.3°C; whereas without ethephon 25% of the flower buds were frost damaged. LAB 173711 delayed the time to 50% bloom by 2–3 days. However, this was not long enough to avoid low-temperature injury to the flower buds.  相似文献

Elevated UV-B radiation (12.2 kJ m–2 d–1) as against the ambient level of 10 kJ m–2 d–1 affected flowering, productivity and biomass partitioning of green gram [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek cv. KM-2]. UV-B stress delayed flowering initiation and achievement of 50 % flowering, reduced flower retention by 25 %, potential yield by 18 % and all yield attributes such as pod number (25 %), pod mass (41 %), seed number (32 %) and seed mass (45 %). Harvest index and shelling percentage were also reduced by 31 and 7 %, respectively. Application of triadimefon (20 mg dm–3) to unstressed plants accelerated flowering and enhanced flower retention (21 %), potential yield (15 %) and yield attributes (7 to 44 %). The partitioning of biomass between plant parts also showed improvement over the control plants. In UV-B-stressed plants, triadimefon treatment compensated the inhibitions to varying extents.  相似文献

Alpine vegetation, restricted to the top of high mountains, is among the vegetation types most endangered by global warming, currently predicted to raise temperatures from 1.1 to 6.4 °C, by the end of the century. Nevertheless, background information allowing evaluation of impacts is rather scarce for some geographic zones. Our study of an alpine community on the Plateau of Muses (2600–2750 m a.s.l.) of Mt Olympos, the highest mountain of Greece, conducted in 1993–1994, can provide such background information for the Mediterranean region. We studied features relating to phenology of flowering, floral morphology, distribution and abundance, and flower visitors of plant species that exhibit a biotic pollination syndrome. We identified dominant patterns and we further (i) explored the relative contribution of the plant features and abiotic factors studied in explaining the activity patterns of flower visitors, (ii) examined if flower and visitor traits of the alpine community match each other according to the classical pollination syndromes, and (iii) investigated whether the responses of individual plant species to the yearly climatic variability result into phenological patterns that characterize the whole community. The common strategy of the alpine community was for early flowering and long flower life span; consistently early flowering species were twice as many as late flowering ones, whereas floral longevity (estimated for 36 species) averaged 5.2 days. Duration of flowering (estimated for 57 species) averaged 18.2 days. Climatic variability affected onset of flowering; all late flowering species delayed their flowering during the year characterized by a humid and cold summer. Duration of flowering and floral longevity did not change in a consistent way. Hymenoptera (Aculeates) were the dominant flower visitors. They accounted for 43.3% of the visits recorded, with bumblebees making a little less than half. Diptera followed making 37.5% of the visits (most made by syrphid flies). There was a mismatch between flower-morphology and flower visitor traits; the alpine community had predominantly non-specialized, pale-colour flowers, which are traits assumed to correspond to Diptera dominance and absence of social bees. Visitation was influenced by flower abundance and duration of flowering; proportionately more Diptera, and proportionately less Hymenoptera visited species with short flowering periods and few flowers present in the field. In a number of cases, the phenological and flower visitor patterns of the community of Mt Olympos deviated from those observed in other alpine environments suggesting a mediterranean influence even at high altitudes.  相似文献

Narrow-leafed lupin (Lupinus angustifolius L.) is usually grown in sandy, acidic and phosphorus (P) deficient soil with low yield and variable harvest index. This study aimed to examine the effects of varying P supply on lupin growth, seed yield and harvest index. Non-abscission plants (cv. Danja) were grown in Lancelin sand at seven rates of P supply (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 or 40 mg kg–1) in a naturally-lit glasshouse. The rate of leaf emergence, flowering time and flower number were decreased or delayed by low P supply (5, 10 or 15 mg kg–1), with no differences at P rates higher than 20 mg kg–1. High P supply (25, 30 or 40 mg kg–1) increased plant seed yield and harvest index largely by increasing the number of pods and consequently yield on the lateral branches, but had less effect on the number of seeds per pod and seed size. Seed yield and seed P concentration continued to increase up to 40 mg P kg–1but harvest index plateaued at 25 mg P kg–1, indicating that low P supply decreased reproductive growth more than vegetative growth in narrow-leafed lupin.  相似文献

Summary Components of generation means were partitioned for days to flower initiation and maturity in three crosses of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea (L.) Czern and Coss) cultivars. A linked digenics model was adequate for flowering in cross II and maturity in Cross I. All three types of digenic interactions among the linked pairs of genes, additive X additive (i), additive X dominance (j) and dominance X dominance (1), contributed significantly in the inheritance of flowering in cross II and maturity in cross I. A complete association among the genes of greater effects in higher mean parent was detected for flowering in cross II and maturity in Cross I. The time of flowering is regulated by various environmental cues, and in some plant species, it is known to be affected by abiotic stresses. We investigated the effect of nutrient stress caused by an abrupt reduction of mineral nutrition on flowering of Arabidopsis thaliana. We used a hydroponic culture system that enabled us to precisely control nutrient levels. When plants were grown in full-strength nutrient solution for several weeks and then transferred to a diluted medium, the time from sowing to bud appearance was significantly shortened. This acceleration of flowering was more pronounced in short days than in long days, and stronger in the ecotype Landsberg erecta than in Columbia and San Feliu-2. The response was also affected by the age of plants at the beginning of nutrient stress and by the concentration of the diluted medium: earlier treatment and more diluted solutions strengthened the effect. Flowering was affected by nutrient stress, not by a change in the osmotic potential of the medium: addition of mannitol to a 1000-fold diluted solution had no effect on the promotion of flowering. When 3-week-old Landsberg erecta plants were exposed to 1000-fold diluted nutrient solution in an 8-h day length, flower bud appearance was strongly and reproducibly advanced by 10.8–12.8 d compared with control plants (which developed buds 41.1–46.2 d after sowing). This treatment can serve as an optimized protocol for future studies concerning physiological, molecular and ecological aspects of flower induction by nutrient stress in A. thaliana.  相似文献

In vitro culture of Chenopodium murale L. (ecotype 197) green and herbicide SAN 9789 - treated "white" plants was established and the effects of benzylaminopurine (BAP), indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and gibberellic acid (GA3) on growth and flowering were tested. Green plants did not flower on glucose free media, while 17 % of plants flowered on 5 % glucose-containing medium. SAN 9789 (10–5 M) inhibited growth and flowering. BAP and IAA (0.1 – 5 mg dm–3) also inhibited growth and flowering of green and "white" plants. GA3 (10 mg dm–3) stimulated leaf development in green plants, but had no significant effect on "white" plants, and stimulated flowering of green (41 %) and "white" (33 %) plants.  相似文献

Summary Progenies of a Design II [Comstock and Robinson (1948)] using random S 1 lines from an exotic population of corn (Zea mays L.) were evaluated in a randomized incomplete block design with two replications at two plant-population densities (1 7,222 plants/ha and 68,888 plants/ha) in 1970 and 1971, at Lincoln, Nebraska. Five traits were studied i.e. grain weight, number of ears, days to flower, plant height and ear height.Under both densities the estimates of additive genetic variance were much larger than those of dominance genetic variance for all traits. The ratio of dominance to additive genetic variance estimates was less than 0.5 suggesting that for the majority of loci controlling the traits, partial to complete dominance is likely.The estimates of additive genetic x year interaction variance were high and significantly different from zero under both densities, indicating that estimates of additive genetic variance in this population obtained from experiments conducted in only one year may be seriously biased. The estimates of dominance genetic x year interaction variance were not significant and most of them were negative.Under both densities high genetic inter-relationships were indicated between grain weight and number of ears, days to flower and plant height, days to flower and ear height, and plant height and ear height.Even though there was a large difference between the two densities used in the study, the differences between the estimates of genetic parameters were not significant in all cases.The sample size of S 1 plants representing each S0 parent in the crossing nursery used in the present study (11.75) caused a small upward bias in the estimates of additive genetic variance, but it caused an upward bias in the estimates of dominance genetic variance of 6–7% of the total genetic variance.It is suggested that a trait such as grain weight should be expressed on a unit area basis when genetic parameters (except for correlation and the ratio between two values) obtained from experiments with different plant-population densities are to be compared.Published as Paper Number 3542, Journal Series, Nebraska Agricultural Experimental Station. The leaf-feeding beetle Zygogrammabicolorata Pallister was introduced from Mexico intoAustralia in 1980 as a biocontrol agent for the weedParthenium hysterophorus L. (Asteraceae). Z. bicolorata became abundant in 1990, and since 1992there has been regular outbreaks resulting in thedefoliation of the weed in central Queensland. In thisstudy we evaluated the impact of defoliation by Z. bicolorata on P. hysterophorus from 1996 to1998. Z. bicolorata caused 91–100% defoliationresulting in reductions in weed density by 32–93%,plant height by 18–65%, plant biomass by 55–89%,flower production by 75–100%, soil seed-bank by13–86% and seedling emergence in the following seasonby 73–90%. At sites with continued outbreaks ofZ. bicolorata, it is expected that the existing soilseed-bank will be minimised, resulting in reduceddensity of parthenium in 6 to 7 years.  相似文献

Field and growth chamber studies were used to determine the effect of in-furrow application of PGR-IV on root and shoot development, and yield of cotton. In the field study, an in-furrow application of PGR-IV @ 73 mL ha–1 at planting increased yield by 18% compared to the untreated control, and by 11% compared to 2-foliar applications of 292 mL/ha–1 each at pinhead square stage of flower development and at first flower appearance. Growth chamber studies revealed that the in-furrow applications of PGR-IV @ 1.131L/plant dramatically increased root length (+47%), root dry weight (+29%), number of lateral roots per plant (+75%), and nutrient uptake one week after planting. These differences were still apparent five weeks later at pinhead square but to a lesser degree. The yield enhancement from the foliar applications was associated with increases in leaf growth, nutrient uptake, and boll number, whereas the yield enhancement from the soil application was associated with enhanced root growth and nutrient uptake. The positive effect of PGR-IV on root growth and accelerated early-season growth could have very substantial benefits in cotton production.  相似文献

北黄花菜是百合科萱草属的优秀观赏植物材料,也是进行品种创新的极有价值的野生种质资源。该研究对野生环境中北黄花菜的开花物候与传粉特性进行了连续三年的追踪观测,探讨其开花进程和传粉机制。结果表明:(1)北黄花菜种群的开花物候只有1个高峰期; 种群始花时间为5月末,盛花期为6月中旬,开花时间在30 d以上,单株花期为6~12 d; 开花同步性指数(Si)分别为0.36、0.27和0.21,种群内个体开花时间重叠程度较低。(2)北黄花菜的开花数量与坐果数呈显著正相关(P<0.05),坐果数与单株花期长度呈极显著正相关(P<0.01),单株花期长度与始花时间呈显著负相关(P<0.05),表明北黄花菜开花数量越多,其坐果数越高。(3)北黄花菜的访花昆虫分属于4目10科共10种; 各访花昆虫的访花时间和行为区别较大; 主要的传粉昆虫有4种,其活动范围大,活动特点与北黄花菜午后开放的规律相匹配,能保证传粉效果; 部分访花昆虫虽然活动范围小,但可以帮助植物进行自花授粉; 两类访花昆虫的共同作用,使得北黄花菜的自然结实得到较大保障。上述结果可为北黄花菜的引种栽培和资源创新发挥实际作用。  相似文献

Summary Two macromutants [unbranched (Ub) and restricted branched (Rb)], one point mutation [yellow flowerd (Ada)] and two flowering variants (early and late) were isolated in the M2 generation of gammairradiated progenies of black henbane (H. niger) — a medicinal plant belonging to family Solanaceae. These major gene changes were coupled with simultaneous changes in several polygenic systems conditioning continuous variation for flowering time, plant height, numbers of shoots and leaves, biomass and crude drug content. Such quantitative variation in qualitative mutants were measured for both per se means and cross-bred performance in terms of: (1) shifts in univariate means, (2) changes in pooled divergence, (3) alterations in gca effects, and (4) changes in heterotic capacity. The mutants were significantly divergent from the parental base for all the six metric traits, both individually as well as collectively. Divergence among mutants was wider (D2 = 1491 to 11 469) than that for mutants versus source parent (D2 = 117 to 7120). Conspicuous alterations in both the nature and the magnitude of the gca effects associated with all mutants, except L-2013 (late flowering), relative to the parental base were observed for all of the metric traits examined (gca - per se means). Similarly, the mutants manifested greater heterotic potential than the parental base. This is even more strongly reflected in mutant x mutant hybrids for all of the characters. The amount of economic heterosis for diverse traits followed the pattern: crude drug > biomass > flowering time - plant height > number of shoots - number of leaves.  相似文献

Summary We tested the adaptive significance of flowering synchrony by means of a quantitative analysis of selection and by flowering induction experiments with the deciduous shrubErythroxylum havanense. Temporal schedules of flower and fruit production were determined for a local population (in three sites) in a Mexican seasonal forest for 2 years (1987–1988). The consequences of natural variation in flowering time (flowering initiation day) on maternal reproductive success (fecundity) were evaluated. We observed high levels of inter- and intraindividual flowering synchrony in 1987, but not in 1988 and this contrast was related to differences in rainfall patterns between the two years. A significant proportion (15.4%) of the phenotypic variation in flowering initiation day was accounted for by environmental variance. The expression of phenotypic variance of flowering time and, consequently, the opportunity for selection to act, are controlled by annual variation in rainfall. Despite the between-year difference in flowering synchrony, we detected a relatively intense directional selection on flowering initiation day in both years, but selection coefficients were of opposite sign (standardized directional gradients were –0.326 and 0.333 for 1987 and 1988, respectively). For both years there was a significant relationship between individual relative fitness and the number of neighbouring flowering plants in a given day, suggesting positive frequency-dependent selection.  相似文献

The two main factors involved in field-scale production of seed of F1 hybrid Brussels sprouts are pollen availability and honeybee behaviour. Pollen availability depends upon the extent of winter survival of the parent inbreds, their flowering times, plant size and on the number of flowers per plant. Plant losses varied between inbreds and between sites and seasons. Differences in the commencement of flowering time in pairs of inbreds varied from 7 to 21 days, and plant size affected flower number. In hybrid seed-production there was a direct relationship between the number of mature flowers on each inbred and the percentage of non-hybrid seed produced from that inbred. Bees were highly selective in their visits to inbreds, and a mean selfing-to crossing-movement ratio of 30:1 was observed. This behaviour, together with pollen availability, greatly influenced the production of ‘sibs’. Radioactive experiments showed that the amount of cross-pollen carried by a bee decreased by about 30% at each flower visited but radioactive pollen grains were detected on the tenth flower visited. Of a number of factors investigated as possibly influencing bee behaviour, differences in flower colour and plant height were associated with discrimination between inbred lines.  相似文献

A vacuum apparatus was used in a test bench environment to determine the effects of two operational parameters on vacuuming efficacy for an insect pest. Nymphs and adults of tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolarisP. de. B. (Hemiptera: Miridae), marked with fluorescent powder, were positioned on strawberry plants according to three height classes. Three speeds of inlet passage (i.e., 2, 4 and 6 km h–1) and two heights (passage at 2/3 and 3/3 of the canopy) of inlet relative to the top canopy of the plants were investigated. After vacuuming the marked insects remaining on the plants were then found using a UV light and the class height of their position on the plant and the substrate (i.e., soil, leaf, stem or fruit/flower) were noted. The efficacy of the vacuum was optimal when the inlet was passed at 4 km h–1with the inlet at a height of 2/3 of the strawberry canopy. Nymphs were usually vacuumed more efficiently than adults. Most (64.5%) individuals that were not vacuumed did not change position after inlet passage. Most (85.9%) individuals that changed position after inlet passage experienced vertical, mostly downward, movements.  相似文献

为揭示菊花的自交衰退现象,对菊花品种'rm1-3'(Dendranthema morifolium 'rm1-3' )和'02-42-6'(D. morifolium '02-42-6' )亲本及其自交后代(I_1代、I_2代和I_3代)的生长性状及部分表型性状进行了比较分析.结果表明,品种'rm1-3' I_1代和I_2代的单花结实数分别比亲本减少89.5%和97.2%,品种 '02-42-6'I_1代和I_2代的单花结实数分别比亲本减少91.2%和92.0%,差异极显著(P<0.01).2个品种自交后代的平均出苗率呈现随自交世代的增加逐渐降低的趋势, 其中品种'rm1-3'自交后代各世代间的平均出苗率均有极显著差异(P< 0.01);品种'02-42-6'的I_3代平均出苗率极显著低于I_1代和I_2代(P<0.01).2个品种亲本与其自交后代间叶片长度没有显著差异,但亲本的存活率、株高、开花率和花径均显著高于自交后代,且在自交后代中,I_1代的存活率、株高、开花率和花径均高于I_2代和I_3代.2个品种自交后代的冠幅和单株花数也低于各自的亲本,但I_1代的冠幅和单株花数与亲本无显著差异.品种'rm1-3'的I_1代、I_2代、I_3代和品种'02-42-6'的I_1代、I_2代的开花时间较亲本分别推迟了9.4、8.9、5.9、11.9和7.6 d,且随自交世代的增加逐渐缩短;但品种'02-42-6' 的I_3代开花时间却较亲本提前了10.7 d.研究结果说明菊花自交后代存在严重的衰退现象.  相似文献

It has been shown that induction of flowering in Chenopodium rubrum L. (ecotype 60° 47 N) seedlings in BCJ light conditions is intensity dependent (Cumming, 1969, Canad. J. Bot. 47, 1247–1250) and that, this intensity dependence is not based on photosynthesis (Sawhney and Cumming, 1971, Can. J. Bot. 49, 2133–2137). Since BCJ light emits a high proportion of energy in the far-red, and the High Energy Reaction (HER) has its action maxima in the far-red and blue regions of the spectrum, we tested the involvement of HER in the light induction of flowering in C. rubrum. Our results show that optimum intensities of blue light are effective in inducing flowering in C. rubrum. Red light exposure does not lead to flower induction. We suggest the HER may be involved in the flower induction of C. rubrum in light. However, when high energy in blue and/or farred is provided in presence of energy between 500–700 nm wavebands, there is no flowering in C. rubrum. We suggest that flower inducing activity of HER may be counteracted by flower inhibitory action of red wavebands.This paper constitutes a part of a Ph. Effectiveness of SC2053 as a chemical hybridizing agent for winter wheat   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The use of chemical hybridizing agents (CHA) allows production of hybrid wheat seeds. We evaluated the effectiveness of a new CHA (SC2053) to induce male sterility on winter wheat in controlled growth conditions. CHA effectiveness was measured with the application of 4 doses (0–400–700–1000 g.ha–1) at 7 stages. These stages were defined by the length of the main stem spike (1–4–7–11–15–20–40 mm). At heading, individual ears were isolated with a greaseproof paper bag. The seeds formed were counted on treated and control ears. The spikes' sterility was calculated three weeks after flowering. The sterility of the main stem's spike reached 95% to 100% for application of 700 g.ha–1 and 1000 g.ha–1 for main stem spike length of 7 mm to 20 mm. The effects of ear tillering (5 tillers per plant) on CHA effectiveness were also investigated. We observed a significant delay of ear development between the main stem and tillers so that complete sterilities were not reached for each dose. Since tillering in field conditions rarely exceeds 3 ears per plant, CHA effectiveness was studied on plants bearing 3 ears. The mean sterility of the first 3 ears was close to 100% for applications with 700 g.ha–1 and 1000 g.ha–1 at stages from 11 mm to 20 mm of main stem spike length.  相似文献

The flowering period and flower colour spectrum of 170 aromatic plant species are studied in 18 representative regions in Greece. The duration of the early to late flowering of the species is recorded for each region and for Greece as a whole. The basic flower colours (green, yellow, red and violet) are defined and the colour spectra for each region and for the whole country are given by converting absolute to relative values. The Sørensen similarity coefficient is applied to compare regions and the relationship among them as well as with a control region (Athos peninsula). Conclusions are drawn as to the time of maximum flowering and the decrease in the proportion of flowering species from north to south. In addition, interpretations are given for the symmetrical flowering curve of Greece as a whole, compared to the skewed curves of the islands.Nomenclature follows T. G. Tutin et al. (eds.) 1964–1980.
