Piglet birth weight and litter uniformity are important for piglet survival. Insulin-stimulating sow diets before mating may improve subsequent piglet birth weights and litter uniformity, but the physiological mechanisms involved are not clear. This study evaluated effects of different levels of insulin-stimulating feed components (dextrose plus starch; fed twice daily) during the weaning-to-estrus interval (WEI) on plasma insulin and IGF-1 concentrations, and on follicle development and subsequent luteal, fetal and placental development and uniformity at days 42 to 43 of pregnancy. During WEI, multiparous sows were isocalorically fed diets supplemented with 375 g/day dextrose plus 375 g/day corn starch (INS-H), with 172 g/day dextrose plus 172 g/day corn starch and 144 g/day animal fat (INS-L), or with 263 g/day animal fat (CON). Jugular vein catheters were inserted through the ear vein at 1.5 days before weaning to asses plasma insulin and IGF-1 concentrations. After estrus, all sows received a standard gestation diet until slaughter at days 42 to 43 of pregnancy. The dextrose plus starch-diets enhanced the postprandial insulin response in a dose-dependent manner (e.g. at day 2 insulin area under the curve was 4516 μU/444 min for CON, 8197 μU/444 min for INS-L and 10 894 μU/444 min for INS-H; s.e.m. = 694; P < 0.001), but did not affect plasma IGF-1 concentrations during the first 3 days of WEI. Follicle development and subsequent luteal, fetal and placental development and uniformity were not affected by the dietary treatments, nor related to plasma insulin and IGF-1 concentrations during WEI. Pre-weaning plasma insulin and IGF-1 concentrations were negatively related to sow body condition loss during lactation, but were not related to subsequent reproduction characteristics. This study shows that dietary dextrose plus starch are effective in stimulating insulin secretion (both postprandial peak and long-term concentration), but not IGF-1 secretion during the first 3 days after weaning in multiparous sows. The extreme insulin-stimulating diets during WEI did, however, not improve follicle development, or subsequent development and uniformity of fetuses and placentas in these high-prolific sows (27.0 ± 0.6 ovulations; 18.6 ± 0.6 vital fetuses).  相似文献

Pre-mating diets can influence piglet birth weight and within-litter birth weight variation and thereby piglet survival and development. The major objective of this study was to evaluate the litter characteristics of young sows whose pre-mating diets received different supplementation. The supplements included a top-dressing of 200 g, consisting of either wheat (CON) or wheat plus microfibrillated cellulose, L-carnitine or L-arginine at one of two supplementation levels (low and high) in late lactation and during the weaning-to-oestrus interval (WEI). The second objective was to investigate the role of body condition loss and IGF-1 concentration during the WEI for subsequent litter characteristics. In total, sows after their first (N = 41) and second (N = 15) lactation were used. One week before weaning, the sows were allocated to the seven treatments based on the number of piglets and BW loss from farrowing until 1 week before weaning. Pre-mating diets did not affect litter characteristics at subsequent farrowing. However, at subsequent farrowing, sows after their first lactation had a lower total number of piglets born per litter (18.3 v. 20.3), higher mean piglet birth weight (1 365 v. 1 253 g), lower CV of birth weight (20.0 v. 26.1%) and lower percentage of piglets < 1 000 g (11.5 v. 24.4%) than sows after their second lactation. Litter weight at second parturition was positively related to IGF-1 during the WEI after first lactation (P < 0.04). Within parity, piglet mean birth weight was positively related to IGF-1 at oestrus (P < 0.02). Surprisingly, within parity, a higher relative loin muscle depth loss during previous lactation was related to lower CV and SD of birth weight (P < 0.05, for both). In conclusion, pre-mating diets did not affect litter characteristics at subsequent birth. However, a higher IGF-1 concentration during the WEI was positively associated with subsequent litter weight and piglet mean birth weight. Further studies should elucidate the role of IGF-1 during the WEI for subsequent litter characteristics and dietary interventions to stimulate IGF-1.  相似文献

Piglet birth weight and within-litter birth weight variation are important for piglet survival and growth. Pre-mating diets may improve IGF-1 and follicle development during the weaning-to-oestrus interval (WEI) and subsequent piglet birth weight. The objective of this study was to modulate IGF-1 concentration during late lactation and the WEI of young sows by using specific pre-mating diets supplemented with microfibrillated cellulose (MF), l-carnitine (LC) or l-arginine (AR). A further objective was to investigate the relationship between IGF-1 and subsequent follicle development and oestrus and ovulation characteristics. In total, 56 first-parity and 20 second-parity sows in three consecutive batches were used for this experiment. Sows received daily either wheat (CON) or wheat plus MF, LC or AR at one of two supplementation levels (low and high) during last week of lactation and WEI. From weaning onwards, follicle and corpus luteum (CL) diameters were repeatedly measured with ultrasound. Blood samples were collected during the WEI for IGF-1 and on day 21 of pregnancy for progesterone analyses, respectively. Insulin-like growth factor-1 concentration, follicle diameter, oestrus and ovulation characteristics and CL diameter were not affected by pre-mating diets. Low IGF-1 class (≤156 ng/ml, N = 22) sows had smaller follicles at weaning (3.5 v. 3.8 mm, P < 0.05) and a longer weaning-to-ovulation interval (147.2 v. 129.8 h, P < 0.05) than high IGF-1 class sows. In first-parity sows, high loin muscle depth (LM) loss sows (≥8%, N = 28) had lower IGF-1 concentrations at weaning (167 v. 214 ng/ml, P < 0.05) compared to low LM loss sows (<8%, N = 28). However, after weaning, IGF-1 concentrations increased and did not differ between high LM loss and low LM loss sows. In conclusion, the different supplemented compounds in pre-mating diets did not improve IGF-1 concentrations around weaning in young sows. Furthermore, high body condition loss caused lower IGF-1 concentrations at weaning, but these levels rapidly recovered after weaning and were related to follicle development and the interval from weaning to ovulation.  相似文献

The pregnancy rate and the subsequent litter size were studied in 332 Swedish Yorkshire primiparous sows, fed according to a commercial Swedish feeding regime during lactation. The sows were weighed and backfat depth was recorded at the first farrowing, at weaning, and at mating. Oestrous detection was performed once daily after weaning, and the interval from weaning to first oestrus (IWO) was recorded. Blood samples for determination of plasma progesterone were drawn regularly after the first weaning. Statistical analyses were only performed on sows with an IWO of 3-8 days. Of these 206 sows were mated on their first (OE1 sows) and 87 sows on their second (87 OE2 sows) oestrus after weaning. The pregnancy rate was 85.4% for OE1 sows and 75.9% for OE2 sows (p=0.048). There was no significant difference in pregnancy rate between OE1 sows with an IWO of 3-5 days and OE1 sows with an interval of 6-8 days. OE2 sows with an IWO of 6-8 days, on the other hand, had a significantly lower pregnancy rate compared with OE2 sows with an interval of 3-5 days. The pregnancy rate in sows that lost more than 30 kg during the first lactation period did not differ from that of sows losing less than 30 kg. In sows with a first litter size of more than 9 piglets alive at birth, the pregnancy rate decreases significantly if mating is delayed until the second oestrus after weaning. OE2 sows had a significantly larger second litter size at birth than OE1 sows (+ 2.0). The litter size at six weeks did not, on the other hand, differ significantly (+ 0.4). There was a positive correlation between the IWO and 2nd litter size, although significant only for OE1 sows between the IWO and litter size alive at birth. In the OE1 group, sows losing 20 kg or less during lactation had significantly larger second litters at birth than the sows losing 21-30 kg, but not significantly larger than the sows losing more than 30 kg. One piglet more, at birth, in the first litter resulted in 0.25 piglet more in the second litter. For sows with a large first litter there was a low probability of also having a large second litter.  相似文献

The administration of PG600 to sows at weaning induces >90% of sows to return to estrus within a week, but farrowing rate and litter size are often not improved. This study evaluated the effects of adjusted artificial insemination (AI) times based on weaning to estrus interval (WEI) and estrus to ovulation interval (EOI) following PG600. All sows were given PG600 at weaning and allotted to adjusted (ADJ, n=47) or non-adjusted (NA, n=46) mating times after the onset of estrus. Adjusted mating involved: (1) 2-3 days WEI, AI at 36 h and 48 h; (2) 4 days WEI, AI at 24h and 36 h; (3) 5 days WEI, AI at 12h and 24h; and (4) 6-7 days WEI, AI at 0 h and 12h. Mating for NA occurred at 0 h and 24h after onset of estrus. There was no effect of treatment on return to estrus (92.9% versus 92.5%) or ovulation (92.7% versus 92.5% for ADJ and NA, respectively). The proportion of first AI occurring within 24h prior to ovulation was increased (83.8% versus 50.0%) and closer to ovulation for ADJ compared to NA treatment (19.4h versus 27.3h, P<0.05). Treatment did not influence (P>0.10) the proportion of second AI occurring within 24h of ovulation (72.8% versus 56.6%) but did influence (P<0.05) the interval from second AI to ovulation for ADJ compared to NA (10.6h versus 3.3h). The ADJ treatment increased (P<0.05) the proportion of sows that received an AI within 24h before ovulation (98.8% versus 87.0%). However, treatment did not influence pregnancy (87.4%) or farrowing (79.5%) rates but the NA treatment tended to increase (P<0.10) total number of pigs born (11.8 versus 8.9). In conclusion, while AI times for ADJ appeared to occur within optimal periods, farrowing rates were not improved and litter size decreased, suggesting that two AI at 12h intervals and closer to the time of ovulation may be detrimental. Overall, these data suggest that for sows injected with PG600 at weaning and receiving two AI, breeding at 0 h and 24h after onset of estrus is recommended.  相似文献

In pig production, parturition progress is a key event for sow's reproductive performance, evaluated by piglet survival and piglets' performance. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of feeding a high-fibre (HF) diet during gestation on parturition progress and reproductive performance of sows. Forty-two primiparous sows (Large-White × Landrace crossbred) were fed during gestation either a control diet (C diet; 2.40 kg/day, 3.2% crude fibre, in % of dry matter (DM)), or a HF diet (2.80 kg/day, 12.4% crude fibre, in % of DM). All sows received 33 MJ digestible energy per day. Continuous video recordings were done on the parturition day to determine postural changes (standing, sitting, lying) and behavioural activities (nesting behaviour, uterine contractions, restlessness, social behaviour towards piglets) during parturition. Duration of parturition and individual birth intervals were also measured. Piglets' growth was evaluated by weekly weighing from birth until weaning, at 26.5 days of age. Sows were weighed and backfat thickness was measured at mating, on day 105 of gestation, on the 1st day post partum, and at weaning. Durations of parturition and of birth intervals were not affected by the gestation diet and averaged 211 ± 12 min and 16.5 ± 0.9 min (mean ± s.e.), respectively. During the parturition progress, the gestation diet did not affect the frequency and the time devoted to postural and behavioural activities. Dietary treatment during gestation did not influence duration of gestation and weaning-to-oestrus interval, as well as litter size, and number of stillborn and weaned piglets. Piglet weight at birth did not differ between gestation dietary treatments but piglets nursed by HF sows showed a 13.5% greater growth rate during the 1st week of life (P < 0.01) and tended to be heavier at weaning (P = 0.06) compared with C piglets. The HF sows were leaner at the end of gestation (P < 0.05), but variations of sows' weight during gestation and lactation were not affected by the gestation diet. All sows lost the same amount of backfat thickness during lactation. During lactation, the average daily feed intake was not significantly affected by the gestation diet. This study shows that substituting a control diet for a HF diet during gestation has limited effects on farrowing progress and reproductive performance, but improved piglets' growth rate during the 1st week of life and tended to increase their live weight at weaning.  相似文献

Primiparous crossbred sows (n = 43), lactating for an average of 21.1 +/- 0.1 d and weaning 8.7 +/- 0.1 pigs, were used to evaluate the influence of insulin on ovulation rate and embryo survival. The sows were maintained on 2.3 kg/head/d of a 14% protein gestation diet during pregnancy, fed ad libitum during lactation, given 2.7 kg/head/d from weaning until re-breeding and fed 2.3 kg/head/d after mating. Beginning the day after weaning (Day 0) sows were treated with 0.4 IU/kg body weight (BW) insulin (n = 21) or were administered an equivalent volume of saline (n = 22) for 4 d. Beginning on Day 3 and continuing until Day 14 after weaning, the sows were checked for estrus twice daily and were artificially inseminated using pooled semen from 2 fertile boars. At slaughter (days 30 to 40 of gestation), ovaries and uteri were collected, and the ovulation rate, embryo number and viability, and uterine weight and length were evaluated and recorded. Use of insulin decreased the average interval from weaning to estrus compared with saline by increasing percentage in estrus by Day 14 after weaning (5.0 +/- 0.57 vs 6.9 +/- 0.56 d, respectively; P < 0.03). Ovulation rate, number of embryos, embryo survival, and average uterine length and weight were not influenced by insulin treatment. Overall, insulin affected reproductive efficiency in primiparous sows by increasing the percentage of sows in estrus.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of various factors, including lactational feed intake, on the reproductive performance of sows in commercial herds. The 4 measures of reproductive performance were weaning-to-first-service interval, weaning-to-conception interval, litter weight at weaning, and subsequent litter size. Parity, farrowing season, lactation length, farrowing-to-conception interval, litter size, and lactation feed intake were investigated as risk factors common to the 4 measures of post-weaning reproductive performance. Using 4 basic multiple regression models for each measure, the least-square means for sets of factors were compared using the GLM procedure of SAS. Parity 1 sows had the longest weaning-to-first-service interval and weaning-to-conception interval, and the lighter litter weight at weaning (P < 0.05) than mid-parity sows. Sows in Parities 2 to 5 had larger subsequent litter size (P < 0.05) than those in Parities 1 and >/= 7. Sows farrowing in summer and spring had the longest and second longest weaning-to-conception interval (P < 0.05), respectively, while sows farrowing in summer had longer weaning-to-first-service interval than those that farrowed in spring (P < 0.05). Sows farrowing in summer produced the lightest litter weight at weaning (P < 0.05). No differences in subsequent litter sizes were found due to farrowing season (P > 0.10). As lactation length increased, weaning-to-first-service interval and weaning-to-conception interval decreased, and litter weaning weight increased. Longer lactation length and farrowing-to-conception interval were associated with larger subsequent litter size (P < 0.05). Litter size did not affect weaning-to-first-service interval or weaning-to-conception interval. Larger litter sizes were associated with heavier litter weight at weaning. Greater lactation feed intake improved the 4 measures of reproductive performance.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the ovulation rate and the weaning-to-service interval (WSI) of sows in relation to their body weight loss during lactation in tropical climatic conditions. Effect of lactation length (LL), number of total born piglets, number of live born piglets, litter birth weight, average piglet birth weight, number of pigs weaned, litter weaning weight and average pig weaned weight on sow weight loss during lactation were also studied. This study was conducted in two commercial purebred sow herds (A, B) in the central part of Thailand from August to December 1997. The herds had both Landrace (L) and Yorkshire (Y) sows. The 123 sows (55 L and 68 Y) in herd A and 153 sows (95 L and 58 Y) in herd B, parity 1-4, were weighed within 4 days after farrowing and at weaning. Lactation length, litter size at birth and at weaning, litter weight at birth and at weaning, and WSI were recorded for each of these sows. In herd A, 52 sows (20 L and 32 Y) were examined once by laparoscopy between days 8 and 14 after AI-service. These sows had farrowed at least seven piglets in the previous parturition. The numbers of corpora lutea (CL) in both ovaries were counted, and were assumed to equal the ovulation rate. L-sows had significantly (P < 0.05) higher relative weight loss during lactation (RWL) than Y-sows. The RWL increased by 0.7% for each extra pig weaned. When LL increased by 1 day, within the interval of 17-34 days, RWL decreased by 0.6%. Sows with a high weight loss had significantly (P < 0.05) longer WSI than sows with medium or low weight loss. Weight loss had a significant (P < 0.05) effect on WSI in parity 1 and 2 sows. Y-sows had more CL than L-sows (15.7 versus 14.0) (P < 0.05). RWL, parity and regression on lactation length had no significant effect on number of CL. In conclusion, sows with higher number of pigs weaned lose more weight. Under the restricted feeding regime applied, high weight loss during lactation prolongs WSI in parity 1 and 2 sows, but has no influence on the ovulation rate at first oestrus after weaning. The ovulation rate is higher in Yorkshire than in Landrace sows. The ovulation rate is independent of parity.  相似文献

Feeding n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA) to gilts or sows has shown different responses to litter growth, pre-weaning mortality and subsequent reproductive performance of the sow. Two hypotheses were tested: (1) that feeding a marine oil-based supplement rich in protected n-3 LCPUFAs to gilts in established gestation would improve the growth performance of their litters; and (2) that continued feeding of the supplement during lactation and after weaning would offset the negative effects of lactational catabolism induced, using an established experimental model involving feed restriction of lactating primiparous sows. A total of 117 primiparous sows were pair-matched at day 60 of gestation by weight, and when possible, litter of origin, and were allocated to be either control sows (CON) fed standard gestation and lactation diets, or treated sows (LCPUFA) fed the standard diets supplemented with 84 g/day of a n-3 LCPUFA rich supplement, from day 60 of first gestation, through a 21-day lactation, and until euthanasia at day 30 of their second gestation. All sows were feed restricted during the last 7 days of lactation to induce catabolism, providing a background challenge against which to determine beneficial effects of n-3 LCPUFA supplementation on subsequent reproduction. In the absence of an effect on litter size or birth weight, n-3 LCPUFA tended to improve piglet BW gain from birth until 34 days after weaning (P = 0.06), while increasing pre-weaning mortality (P = 0.05). It did not affect energy utilization by the sow during lactation, thus not improving the catabolic state of the sows. Supplementation from weaning until day 30 of second gestation did not have an effect on embryonic weight, ovulation rate or early embryonic survival, but did increase corpora lutea (CL) weight (P = 0.001). Eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) levels were increased in sow serum and CL (P < 0.001), whereas only DHA levels increased in embryos (P < 0.01). In conclusion, feeding n-3 LCPUFA to gilts tended to improve litter growth, but did not have an effect on overall subsequent reproductive performance.  相似文献

Pruteen, a fermentation protein material produced by ICI, was tested at 8% inclusion as a replacement for all the soya-bean meal and fish-meal in the diet of sows in a multiple-generation breeding study. Parent sows on the two dietary treatments each produced six litters, and the three subsequent generations of sows reared from the F1A, F2A and F3A parities each produced three litters. Control and Pruteen-fed sows were housed and reared under identical conditions throughout the study.Replacement of all the non-cereal protein by Pruteen had no adverse effect on the health or overall reproductive performance of the sows or on the health or viability of the piglets. A total of over 5000 piglets were born to sows fed on the control and Pruteen-containing diets, and there were no differences between treatments in litter size and birth weight (Control: 10.6/litter, 1.32 kg; Pruteen: 10.9/littler, 1.35 kg), and weight at weaning at 3 weeks of age (Control: 8.2/litter, 5.26 kg; Pruteen: 8.4/litter, 5.19 kg).Weight gain of the sows in pregnancy was satisfactory and there was no effect of Pruteen on lactation performance, as shown by the mean sow weight loss in lactation (17 kg for both treatments) or the mean total litter weight at weaning (Control: 43.7 kg; Pruteen: 43.6 kg). The overall number of days from weaning to effective service (Control: 9.9; Pruteen: 8.5) was satisfactory.Pruteen proved to be a satisfactory ingredient in the diet of breeding pigs.  相似文献

We determined the estrus profile (weaning-to-estrus interval (WEI), estrus duration (ED), and frequency of estrus per detection period) in 184 female swine and estimated the effect of the WEI, ED and frequency of artificial insemination (AI) on farrowing rate (FR) and litter size. Estrus detection was done at 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The WEI was categorized as short (<100 h), medium (100-120 h) and long (>120 h). The ED was categorized as short (<60 h), medium (60-72 h) and long (>72 h). Mean lactation length was 14.6 days, mean WEI was 124.5 h and mean ED was 69 h. In each weaning group, females received either one or two AI, following a breeding schedule based on the estrus profile. In single-mated females, Al was performed 36 h after the beginning of estrus. In double-mated females, the first AI was done 24 h after the beginning of estrus and the second AI occurred 12 h later. The period of estrus detection had no effect (P > 0.05) on WEI, ED, FR, total born (TB) and live born litter size (LB). Mean FR was 82.6%, mean TB was 10.0% and mean LB was 9.2%. Mean ED was shorter (P < 0.03) for females having medium and long WEI (67.0 and 65.4 h, respectively) than for those having short WEI (72.2 h). A linear regression analysis identified a weak (R2 = 0.02) but significant negative association between ED and WEI (P = 0.05). The WEI did not influence FR (P > 0.05). Total litter size for females having short WEI (9.4) was lower (P < 0.03) than for those having long WEI (10.4). Also, LB for females having medium and long WEI (9.7-9.8) was higher (P < 0.05) than for those having short WEI (8.7). AI frequency had no effect on FR (P > 0.05). TB and LB litter size were lower (P < 0.05) for single-mated females (9.6 and 9.0, respectively) than for double-mated females (10.7 and 9.6, respectively). Double Al was associated with higher subsequent litter size. However, breeding schedules based only on estrus profile may not be precise in determining ideal breeding time, since females having short WEI had the longest ED and produced the lowest litter size.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of a) parity and season of the year on the interval from weaning to rebreeding in sows and b) altered suckling intensity (ASI) and gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) on the postpartum interval in primiparous and multiparous sows. Experiment I included 406 weaning-to-rebreeding intervals in 172 primiparous and multiparous sows. Primiparous sows returning to estrus during the spring and summer months had a longer (P<0.001) rebreeding interval (11.0 d) than the other groups (5.7 d). In Experiment II, 32 sows were assigned to a factorially designed experiment. The factors were ASI, GnRH and parity. Treatments were begun 7 d before weaning (about 4 wk of age). The ASI was accomplished by separating the sow from her litter for 12 h each day. The average interval from the beginning of treatment to the onset of estrus was 13.4 d and was not affected (P>0.33) by ASI, GnRH, parity or their interactions. None of the factors was found to affect the average weaning weight of the piglets (P>0.05); however, piglets in the ASI group were heavier (P<0.03) at 1-wk postweaning than those in the no-ASI group. The results showed that primiparous sows returning to estrus during the spring and summer months had the longest rebreeding interval. Additionally, neither GnRH nor ASI, separately or in conjunction, decreased the postpartum interval in sows.  相似文献

During weaning-to-estrus interval (WEI), the sows are usually fed with high feed level to improve the reproductive performance. However, the WEI has been reduced over the years which may reduce the impact of feed level on performance in the modern genetic lines. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of two feeding levels (moderate feeding level (MFL): 2.7 kg/day and high feeding level (HFL): 4.3 kg/day) and two diet types (gestation: 13.67 MJ/kg of metabolizable energy (ME) and 0.62% of standard ileal digestible lysine (SID Lys) and lactation: 14.34 MJ ME/kg and 1.20% of SID Lys) offered during the WEI on reproductive performance. In total, 19.0% of sows were excluded from the analysis due to feed intake below 75% (9.6% and 28.5% in MFL and HFL groups, respectively), remaining 254 primiparous and 806 multiparous sows. Follicular size and change in BW were measured in subsamples of 180 and 227 females, respectively. Data were analyzed considering the sow as the experimental unit. Feeding level, diet type, parity and their interactions were included as fixed effects, whereas the day of weaning was considered as a random effect. The feed intake of MFL and HFL groups averaged 2.5 ± 0.02 and 3.8 ± 0.02 kg/day, respectively. There was an interaction between feeding level and parity for daily feed intake. Within HFL, multiparous sows consumed 181 g/day more than primiparous sows (P < 0.01), but no difference was observed within MFL (P > 0.05). Both primiparous and multiparous sows lost proportionally less weight when fed HFL than MFL gestation diet during WEI. The percentage of weight loss was lower in HFL than in the MFL group in multiparous sows fed the lactation diet. The WEI was not affected by feeding level, diet type or its interaction (P > 0.05), but it was longer in primiparous than in multiparous sows (P = 0.001). There was no effect of feeding level, diet type, parity or their interactions on anestrus and farrowing rates. Multiparous sows showed greater follicular size, and greater numbers of total born and born alive piglets in the subsequent cycle than primiparous sows (P < 0.05). In conclusion, feeding weaned primiparous and multiparous sows with 4.3 kg/day of a gestation (58.78 MJ ME and 26.66 g SID Lys) or a lactation diet (61.66 MJ ME and 51.60 g SID Lys) does not improve follicular size and reproductive performance in the subsequent cycle.  相似文献

Three intermittent suckling (IS) regimes were evaluated for their effects on lactational oestrus and subsequent fertility. Control sows were weaned (CW; n = 38) at d 26 ± 2 of lactation. In IS19-7D (n=40) and IS19-14D (n=42) sows, IS started at d 19 ± 1 of lactation and sows were weaned 7 or 14 d later. In IS26-7D (n=41), IS started at d 26 ± 1 of lactation and sows were weaned 7d later. During IS, sows were separated from their piglets for 10h/day. Oestrus detection was performed twice daily without a boar and ovulation was confirmed by ultrasound once a week. In IS19-7D, IS19-14D and IS26-7D, respectively, 50%, 64% and 61% of the sows showed oestrus and ovulation during IS (P>0.05), and, of the remaining sows, 100%, 93%, and 69% showed oestrus in the first week after weaning. In CW sows, 95% showed oestrus in the first week after weaning. Parity 1 sows were considerably less likely than older parities (23% vs. 68%) to show oestrus in lactation. Pregnancy rate of the first post partum oestrus (during lactation or after weaning) was 89% (CW), 92% (IS19-7D), 80% (IS19-14D) and 77% (IS26-7D) (P>0.05) and subsequent litter size was 14.5 ± 0.5, 14.5 ± 0.6, 15.3 ± 0.5 and 15.2 ± 0.8, respectively (P>0.05). Sows mated during lactation had similar pregnancy rate and litter size to those mated after weaning. Hence, ongoing lactation for the first 2-9 d of pregnancy did not negatively affect fertility. A total of 50-64% of IS sows showed lactational oestrus, regardless of the stage of lactation. Pregnancy rates and litter size were similar to control sows, and were not affected by stage of lactation at mating.  相似文献

The objective was to determine whether treatment with 400 IU PMSG and 200 IU hCG (P.G. 600; Intervet America, Inc., Millsboro, DE, USA) at weaning improved rebreeding performance in sows that were limit-fed during lactation. Crossbred sows were allowed ad libitum access to feed or were limited to 3.2 kg of feed/day during an 18-day lactation. At weaning, limit-fed sows received im treatment with P.G. 600 (n = 16) or saline (n = 19) and ad libitum-fed sows received saline (n = 18). The percentage of sows in estrus by day 7 post-weaning was greater (p<0.05), and the weaning-to-estrus interval was shorter (p<0.05), for ad libitum-fed sows compared to limit-fed, saline-treated sows, with limit-fed, P.G. 600-treated sows having intermediate values that were not different from the other two groups. The percentage of sows pregnant and the numbers of corpora lutea and embryos at day 30 post-mating were not different (p>0.1) among groups. In summary, low feed intake during lactation decreased the percentage of sows that displayed estrus within 7 days after weaning and increased the weaning-to-estrus interval. These effects were at least partially remediated by gonadotropin treatment. Pregnancy rate, and litter size at day 30 of gestation, were similar for ad libitum- and limit-fed sows and not affected by P.G. 600 treatment in limit-fed sows.  相似文献

The effects of a marine oil-based n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (mLCPUFA) supplement fed to the sow from weaning, through the rebreeding period, during gestation and until end of lactation on litter characteristics from birth until weaning were studied in sows with known litter birth weight phenotypes. It was hypothesized that low birth weight (LBW) litters would benefit more from mLCPUFA supplementation than high birth weight litters. A total of 163 sows (mean parity=4.9±0.9) were rebred after weaning. Sows were pair-matched by parity and litter average birth weight of the previous three litters. Within pairs, sows were allocated to be fed either standard corn/soyabean meal-based gestation and lactation diets (CON), or the same diets enriched with 0.5% of the mLCPUFA supplement at the expense of corn. Each litter between 9 and 16 total pigs born was classified as LBW or medium/high average birth weight (MHBW) litter and there was a significant correlation (P<0.001) between litter average birth weight of the current and previous litters within sows (r=0.49). Sow serum was harvested at day 113 of gestation for determination of immunoglobulin G (IgG) concentrations. The number of pigs born total and alive were lower (P=0.01) in mLCPUFA than CON sows, whereas the number of stillborn and mummified pigs were similar between treatments. Number of stillborns (trend) and mummies (P<0.01) were higher in LBW than MHBW litters. Tissue weights and brain : tissue weight ratios were similar between treatments, but LBW litters had decreased tissue weights and increased brain : tissue weight ratios compared with MHBW litters. Placental weight was lower (P=0.01) in LBW than MHBW litters, but was not different between treatments. Average and total litter weight at day 1 was similar between treatments. mLCPUFA increased weaning weight (P=0.08) and average daily gain (P<0.05) in MHBW litters, but not in LBW litters. Pre-weaning mortality was similar between treatments, but was higher (P<0.01) in LBW than MHBW litters. IgG concentration in sow serum was similar between treatments and litter birth weight categories. In conclusion, litter birth weight phenotype was repeatable within sows and LBW litters showed the benchmarks of intra-uterine growth retardation (lower placental weight and brain sparing effects). As maternal mLCPUFA supplementation decreased litter size overall, only improved litter growth rate until weaning in MHBW litters, and did not affect pre-weaning mortality, maternal mLCPUFA supplementation was not an effective strategy in our study for mitigating negative effects of a LBW litter phenotype.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to analyze reproductive performance in purebred Landrace and Yorkshire sows with special reference to seasonal influence and parity number, under tropical conditions where day length is almost constant throughout the year. Data from three purebred sow herds in Thailand during the period from 1993 to 1996 were analyzed. The two breeds were present in all three herds. The analysis comprised records of 3848 Landrace sow litters and 2033 Yorkshire sow litters. The statistical models included the fixed effects of month, year, parity, breed of the sow, herd, and two-way interactions of breed-parity, breed-herd, breed-month, breed-year, parity-month, month-herd, year-herd and month-year. The random effect of sow within breed was included in all models. Analysis of covariance was performed to analyze the effect of temperature, humidity and heat index on number of total born per litter (NTB), weaning to first service interval (WSI) and farrowing rate (FR). Landrace sows had significantly higher NTB (0.6 piglets), number of live born per litter (0.5 piglets), and average birth weight (0.13 kg) than Yorkshire sows (P<0.001). Farrowing rate was 3.9% higher in Landrace sows than in Yorkshire sows (P<0.01). However, Yorkshire sows had significantly shorter WSI (P<0.001) and significantly higher proportion of sows served within 7 days after weaning (P<0.01) than Landrace sows. No breed differences were found in number of stillborn per litter and weaning to conception interval. Parity had significant effect on all reproductive parameters analyzed. Number of total born and live born per litter was significantly lower for sows farrowing during the rainy season than in other seasons. Farrowing rate was low for sows mated during the hot and rainy season. Weaning to service interval and WSI7 were prolonged for sows weaned during the hot and rainy season. Reproductive performance was significantly unfavorably influenced by elevated temperature and heat index after mating (NTB and FR) or during lactation (WSI).  相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of konjac flour (KF) inclusion in gestation diets of sows on nutrients digestibility, lactation feed intake, reproductive performance of sows and preweaning performance of piglets. Two isoenergetic and isonitrogenous gestation diets were formulated: a control diet and a 2.1% KF-supplemented diet (KF diet). Both diets had the same NDF and insoluble fiber (ISF) levels, but the KF diet had higher soluble fiber (SF) level. The day after breeding, 96 multiparous sows were assigned to the two dietary treatments. Restrict-fed during gestation, in contrast, all sows were offered the same lactation diet ad libitum. Response criteria included sow BW, backfat depth, lactation feed intake, weaning-to-estrus interval, litter size and piglet’s weight at parturition and day 21 of lactation. On day 60 of gestation, 20 sows were used to measure nutrient digestibility. Results showed that the digestibility of dry matter, gross energy, crude fiber and ADF were not affected by the dietary treatments. The inclusion of KF in gestation diets increased NDF digestibility (P<0.05) and tended to increase the digestibility of CP (P=0.05) compared with the control diet group. In addition, dietary treatment during gestation did not affect litter size, BW and backfat gain during gestation, lactation weight, backfat loss or weaning-to-estrus interval of sows. However, sows fed the KF diet consumed more (P<0.05) lactation diet per day than sows in the control group. Accordingly, sows fed the KF diet showed greater average piglet weights on day 21 of lactation (P=0.09), and the litter weight of sows fed the KF diet on day 21 of lactation increased by 3.95 kg compared with sows fed the control diet (not significant). In conclusion, the inclusion of KF in gestation diets increased lactation feed intake of sows and tended to improve litter performance.  相似文献

This study was performed to investigate the weaning-to-estrus interval (WEI) in primiparous and multiparous sows in relation to their weight and back-fat thickness changes and serum hormone imbalance (insulin, growth hormone, and cortisol) at the end of gestation and during lactation. Ten primiparous and ten multiparous Camborough sows, fourth to seventh parity, were used in this experiment. During gestation, daily food intake was 2.4 kg (sow commercial diet: 2.96 Mcal/kg, 16% crude protein) and during lactation all sows were fed on a wet commercial diet (3.34 Mcal/kg, 17% crude protein) ad libitum, three times per day. Blood samples were collected and back-fat thickness at the P(2) site were recorded at 6 days before and 2, 7, 14, 21 and 25 days after farrowing. Body weight was recorded on the same dates, except the date before farrowing. The WEI was also recorded. The average daily feed intake was different (P<0.05) between primiparous and multiparous sows during lactation (5.23 versus 5.72kg per day, respectively). There was a difference (P<0.05) between primiparous and multiparous sows in total percentage of back-fat thickness loss from the end of gestation until weaning (-20.18 and -9.03%, respectively). The total percentage of weight loss during lactation was slightly greater (P>0.05) in multiparous than primiparous sows. Weaning-to-estrus interval was greater (P<0.05) in the primiparous group when compared with the multiparous group (5.55 and 4.22 days, respectively). No differences were found in insulin, growth hormone (GH), and cortisol concentrations between parity groups, except on the 21st day of lactation, when GH was greater in primiparous sows. There was no correlation between percentage of total weight loss and WEI, or percentage of back-fat thickness loss (total or by periods) and WEI. There were positive correlations between GH serum concentration on the 14th and 21st days and the percentage of weight loss in the third week of lactation (r=0.46, P<0.04 and r=0.52, P<0.02, respectively), and between GH concentration on the 21st and on weaning days and WEI (r=0.54, P<0.02 and r=0.42, P<0.06, respectively). Our results indicate that the hormone change (imbalance) during lactation, mainly GH, seems to be a better parameter to explain the difference in WEI between primiparous and multiparous sows than change in body condition.  相似文献
