Résumé Pour atteindre les buts visés par le recyclage biologique des eaux usées, il faut exploiter une population d'organismes filtreurs dont l'augmentation nette de biomasse est rapide et importante. L'augmentation nette de biomasse sera favorisée par une croissance individuelle, une reproduction et une survie excellentes dans l'eau usée traitée. L'étude de ces paramèters sur des cohortes de Daphnia magna soumises à différentes conditions expérimentales, indique qu'il s'agit d'un organisme prometteur pour le recyclage biologique. Dans nos conditions expérimentales, D. magna montre un bilan azoté positif durant toute sa vie. La production rapide de biomasse est favorisée par une température élevée (15 °C) et une nourriture abondante. L'eau traité montre les signes d'une certaine toxicité envers les juvéniles mais non envers les adultes. Nos données établissent que la production d'oeufs requiert une taille minimale de la femelle de 2,7 mm, information primordiale pour l'exploitation future de la population.
To realize the objectives of the biological recycling of wastewaters, it is necessary to exploit a population of filtering organisms, the biomass of which shows a rapid and important net increase. The net increase of biomass is favored by excellent individual growth, reproduction and survival in treated wastewaters. The study of these parameters, with cohorts of Daphnia magna submitted to different treatments, indicated that it is a promising organism for biological recycling. Under our experimental conditions, D. magna exhibited a positive nitrogen balance for the whole of its life. The rapid production of biomass was favored by high temperature (15 °C) and abundant food. The treated wastewaters proved to be somewhat toxic to juveniles but not to adults. Our results demonstrated that the egg production requires a female minimal size of 2.7 mm; this information is most important in the future exploitation of the population.

The protohistoric rock engravings of the region of Mount Bego, located in the Alpes-Maritimes, in the municipality of Tende, include more than 40,000 figurative engravings, such as corniforms, daggers, halberds, axes, reticulates, appendage reticulate, rectangular or oval beaches, anthropomorphs, geometric figures and radiant circles that we consider as an ideogram and more than 60,000 non-figurative signs, such as isolated cupules, isolated cupules of cells, small beaches of cupules, scattered clouds of cupules, bars, which although not figurative are all highly significant. All these engravings, inscribed on more than 4150 rocks spread over 1500 hectares, in eight high mountain valleys, most often made with small cups, were not carried out at random. They have been traced in relation to economic concerns, cosmogonic myths and cultural traditions of the farming and pastoral peoples of the Copper Age and the Early Bronze Age of the Southern Alps during propitiatory rites. It was a period corresponding to the climatic optimum of Chalcolithic where during the summer, in the lower valleys, cultivated fields and pastures dried up. The economic preoccupations of the populations who then occupied the regions located on both sides of the Southern Alps were essentially turned towards the search for water to irrigate cultivated fields and pastures, as evidenced by the petroglyphs inscribed on the rocks: sinuous lines evoking creeks or irrigation canals, rectangular or oval beaches, water catch basins, isolated wells, isolated wells, wells or scattered cups of rain or reticulates, which represent cultivated fields and pastures connected to natural holes or cracks that evoke springs and streams. During propitiatory rites, the engravers addressed the god of the storm, master of the lightning and dispenser of the fertilizing rain, to the great goddess, goddess-mother or goddess-Earth, arms raised in a position of receptivity for collect rain from the sky and bring in spring, with the return of vegetation, abundance to humans.  相似文献

In vitro andin vivo studies show that androgens stimulate prostate cancer. However, evidence from epidemiological studies of an association between circulating levels of androgens and prostate cancer risk has been inconsistent, but most studies have likely been undersized given that the association may be relatively weak. We review prospective studies on the association of serum levels of free and total testosterone, the principal androgen in circulation with risk of prostate cancer. No significant association between total or free testosterone and risk of prostate cancer was found in studies that together included 1,525 cases of prostate cancer and 4,349 controls. No support was found for the hypothesis that high levels of circulating testosterone within a physiological range stimulate development and growth of prostate cancer. Intraprostatic androgen metabolism may still be of importance for prostate cancer development.  相似文献

Chara vulgaris was cultivated in a natural medium containing nickel and cobalt chloride.Growth increased in a culture solution containing Ni and Co in small amounts. Tissue analysis showed that the levels of Ni and Co in the dry matter were high. Résumé En vue d'une étude, au laboratoire, de la nodulation et de la symbiose plante-bactérie des préparations de protoplastes de mésophylle et de nodule racinaire ont été effectuées chez le haricot (Phaseolus vulgaris variété Constant). Pour chaque préparation, les conditions opératoires et les concentrations optimales de cellulase et de pectinase en solution, dans du mannitol 0,6M ont été définies.Áprès 15 jours, 10 à 15% des protoplastes de mésophylle mis en culture dans le milieu B5 de Gamborg se divisent 2 à 3 fois. Des essais de fusion réalisés avec des faibles densités cellulaires entre protoplastes de mésophylle et protoplastes de nodule ont, donné des taux de fusion de l'ordre de 2,43%.
Study of the symbiosis Rhizobium-legume: Preparation of isolated cells forin vitro study
Summary With a view to studyin vitro the processes of nodulation and plant-bacteria symbiosis, preparation of mesophyll protoplasts and root nodule protoplasts have been realized fromPhaseolus vulgaris (Constant var.).For every preparation the process of experimentation and optimum concentrations of cellulase and pectinase diluted in mannitol 0,6M have been defined.After a 15 days' period, 10 to 15% of mesophyll protoplasts divided twice or even three times in B5 Gamborg's medium. Although we used low rate cell concentrations, root nodule protoplasts and mesophyll protoplasts have been able to fuse in the proportion of 2,43%.

To estimate the incidence of fracture of the proximal end of the femur in people aged 50 years or older living in the Quebec area in 1971, 1976 and 1981 we determined the number of admissions for such fractures to the 15 acute care hospitals in the region. From 1971 to 1981 the number of fractures increased by 71%; the increases for those aged 75 to 84 years and 85 years or over were 98% and 118% respectively. The variation is only partly explained by changes in sex and age distribution of the population; the incidence rates also increased. Among men aged 75 to 84 years the incidence rate per 1000 person-years rose from 2.63 in 1971 to 5.22 in 1981, an increase of 98%; the corresponding figures for men aged 85 years or more were 9.76 and 16.91, an increase of 73%. Among women aged 75 to 84 years the rate rose from 7.28 to 8.81, an increase of 21%; the corresponding figures for women aged 85 years or more were 20.40 and 24.27, an increase of 21% and 19% respectively.  相似文献

Abstract

Considerations about our anther cultures of cultivated plants. – One of the main activities performed at the Casaccia Nuclear Centre, in the framework of a contract between CNEN and the European Communities, centers on the induction of haploid plants by anther culture and the subsequent chromosome doubling in order to obtain completely homozygous diploid plants. In tobacco, it is now possible to obtain haploid plants from any cultivar; we perform in vitro culture of internodes from which homozygous diploid plants are regenerated, taking advantage of natural phenomenon of endopolyploidy. In order to try to generalize this method of producing haploid plants in other plant species, we are studying the mechanism involved in haploid embryogenesis which occurs in vitro in the microspores. Datura, Nicotiana and Atropa are among the genera in which a direct embryogenesis from the microspore is observed; it is interesting to note that all three genera belong to the family Solanaceae and are very rich in alkaloids. In almost all the other cases of in vitro induction of haploids, microspores produce calli from which plantlets can be differentiated, but this way of plant regeneration is less interesting because only few plantlets are obtained and it is not sure that each haploid comes from a single microspore. We examined the factors which could influence the transformation of microspores into embryoids in tobacco, namely: the developmental stage of microspore, the degeneration of tapaetal cells, the genotype of microspore, the composition of cultural media, the physiological conditions of the plant from which the anthers were taken. From a practical point of view, it would be desirable to have informations on methods giving a maximum number of haploid plants from one embryogenic anther and the greatest number of embryogenic anthers from the cultured anthers. Our recent experiments on anther culture in liquid shaken medium have yielded good results (about 7,000 embryoids from 25 embryogenic anthers). Further, we are conducting several experiments in order to synchronize the development of the microspores in the anthers; to this end, we analyse the effect of cold treatment, ionizing radiation and gravity force. Experiments are being performed with other cultivated species, beside tobacco, in order to solve some problems of plant breeding more easily and quickly through haploidy. With the aim of introducing, in cultivated tomato, some desirable characters from the wild species, Lycopersicum peruvianum, (self-incompatibility, disease resistance, simultaneous flowering), we have obtained the interspecific hybrid through in vitro culture of young embryos. Haploid production from this hybrid could allow to quickly obtain various genetic recombinations from these two species. For this purpose we are carrying out anther cultures as well as single microspore cultures. In rice, strawberry and L. peruvianum, several diploid and tetraploid plantlets were obtained from our anther cultures. Work is in progress to ascertain the mode of their origin.  相似文献

Two new cell lines were established from larval and adult cockroach haemolymph. The cells show typical characteristics of plasmatocytes, but under different conditions of cultivation, they modulate from small dividing cells (prohaemocytes) to large storing cells (granulocytes, adipohaemocytes etc.). Consequently, the very confusing haemocyte nomenclature must be reconsidered taking into account the cell physiology. Biochemical analysis of the metabolized culture medium established bacteriolytic activity and chitinase secretion (two enzymes). Moreover, in the same medium we found a macromolecular factor inducing spermatogenesis in cultured germinal cysts of the Cynthia silkworm. All these characteristics of in vitro haemocytes are discussed to explain the involvement of blood cells in insect physiology and especially in immunity, gametogenesis, and ecdysis.  相似文献

Résumé Une analyse par électrophorèse des protéines à 20 locus a été réalisée sur trois espèces du genre Mastomys au Sénégal. Malgré l'absence de locus diagnostique, une approche multivariée par analyses factorielles (AFC et AFD) permet néanmoins de reconnaître de façon sûre une des espèces en présence (M. cf. natalensis, 100% d'individus bien classés par l'AFD) et d'attribuer correctement les individus des deux autres espèces (M. erythroleucus et M. huberti) dans 92% et 77% des cas respectivement. Bien qu'écologiquement nettement différenciées, ces deux dernières espèces apparaissent très proches génétiquement (DNei=0,12) et montrent par ailleurs de hétérozygoties très elevées. Les faibles distances génétiques entre les trois espèces contrastent avec la forte différenciation chromosomique observée par ailleurs. Chez M. erythroleucus et M. huberti, les distances génétiques observées entre populations continentales ne sont pas corrélées avec les distances géographiques alors que les populations insulaires présentent une nette baisse de variabilité, en relation probable avec leur isolement géographique important. Par ailleurs, chez M. huberti, plusieurs populations s'écartent fortement de la panmixie. Ces tensions génétiques pourraient résulter de phénomènes d'introgression avec M. erythroleucus.
Compared genetic structures of three species of African rodents of the genus Mastomys from Senegal. A protein electrophoresis analysis at 20 loci was performed on three species of the genus Mastomys from Senegal. Although no diagnostic locus was found between the three species, they can be readily recognized by multivariate analysis (100% of the M. cf. natalensis, 92% of the M. erythroleucus and 77% of the M. huberti individuals could be correctly classified by discriminant analysis). Although ecologically quite clearly differentiated, M. erythroleucus and M. huberti were found to be genetically very close (DNei=0.12) and display very high heterozygosities. On the whole, the small genetic distances between the three species contrast with the high chromosomal differentiation that has been reported in another study. In M. erythroleucus and M. huberti, genetic distances between mainland populations are not correlated with geographic distances, whereas insular populations show an important decrease of variability probably linked with their geographic isolation. In M. huberti, some populations show a strong departure from panmictic equilibrium: these genetical tensions could result from introgression phenomena with M. erythroleucus.

Purpose

To assess clinical and therapeutic aspects of penile urethral fistula following circumcision in our daily urological practice.

Patients and methods

We carried out a retrospective study of cases of penile fistula between 1990 and 2007.

Results

A series of 85 cases is reported. The mean age was 10.7 years (15 months-38 months). The circumcision was performed by paramedical persons in the majority of cases. The mean period elapsing before consultation was 4.1 ± 5.3 years (range: 1 week-28 years). The fistula was associated with partial amputation of the glans penis in one case, and with urethral meatus stenosis in three cases. The surgical treatment was layered repair in the majority of cases. The average follow-up was 3.35 years (range: 2 months-8 years). Overall results were satisfactory in 81.2% of cases.

Conclusions

Penile fistula due to circumcision is common in our region. Its management is codified but there is a significant risk of failure, making prevention even more important.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to investigate the contribution of the single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) in cancer patients and to evaluate its ability to correctly classify indeterminate lesions on planar bone scintigraphy (PBS).MethodsFrom November 2006 to August 2007, all patients with confirmed malignancy, whose PBS showed indeterminate lesions, underwent without delay a SPECT/CT. The study included 120 patients (67 men, 53 women), with a mean age of 69 ± 12 years (range 42–96 years). The patients with obvious metastases, important pains or who did not accept the examination were excluded from the study. The location of the lesions was described either as precise, probable or indeterminate. The lesions were classified either as definitely malignant, definitely benign or indeterminate.ResultsBreast, prostate, lung and kidney neoplasms represented approximately 80% of all cancers. The PBS highlighted 267 lesions of location either as precise (n = 29), probable (n = 129) or indeterminate (n = 109), classified either as definitely malignant (n = 28), definitely benign (n = 27) or indeterminate (n = 212). The SPECT/CT revealed 440 lesions, of location either as precise (n = 353), likely (n = 39) or indeterminate (n = 48), classified either as definitely malignant (n = 84), definitely benign (n = 305) or indeterminate (n = 51). Thoracic and lumbar spine and pelvis were the locations of 79% of the scintigraphic lesions and of 88% of the osseous metastases. SPECT/CT modified the final report of 80 patients, by excluding from metastases (n = 2), by showing metastases (n = 23) and by showing the benign character of indeterminate lesions (n = 55). Moreover, 69 patients out of 120 (> 57%) had an evolution confirmed with 35 true positives, 31 true negatives, one false negative and two patients with indeterminate lesions on SPECT/CT, without osseous metastasis.ConclusionThe assessment of the indeterminate scintigraphic lesions of oncologic patients benefits from the SPECT/CT. The lesion-based analysis showed that the SPECT/CT detected more lesions (+64%) and correctly classified 88% of the detected lesions. The patient-based analysis highlighted that SPECT/CT modified the final report for more than 66% of the patients. The follow-up showed that SPECT/CT correctly classified for more than 95% of the patients.  相似文献

Bacterial interspersed mosaic elements (or BIMEs) are repeated sequences identified in several enterobacterial genomes. BIMEs are a mosaic combination of small sequence motifs. It has been estimated that 500 BIMEs are scattered over the bacterial genome. BIMEs have been identified in several enterobacteria: Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Klebsiella sp. and relatives of these bacteria. BIME function is not known, but their interactions with specific proteins (DNA polymerase I, gyrase and integration host factor) suggest that they could be involved in functional organization of bacterial chromosomes. Four other families of interspersed repetitive sequences have been shown to exist in a variety of bacterial genomes. Like BIMEs, these sequences are rather small, contain a region of dyad symmetry, and are found in extragenic locations. Unlike BIMEs, IRU (or ERIC), box C sequences and RSA sequences occur in enterobacteria but also in other Gram-negative bacteria.  相似文献
