Lycopene, the predominant carotenoid in tomatoes and tomato-based foods, is reported to protect against various cancers, especially prostate cancer. We investigated the effect of lycopene on DNA damage and cell growth inhibition in the Hep3B human hepatoma cell line. Lycopene was analyzed by HPLC, and cell proliferation was determined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazolyl-2)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. A final lycopene concentration of 0.1-50 microM was added to cells plated in 96-well plates. After a 24-hr incubation, cell viability was measured as absorbance at 570 nm after the MTT assay. The effects of lycopene on cell cycle progression were investigated with flow cytometry. Lycopene induced G0/G1 arrest and S phase block. Oxidative DNA damage was determined by the Comet (single-cell gel electrophoresis) assay. Lycopene inhibited cell growth in a dose-dependent manner. Cell growth was inhibited 20% at 0.2 microM lycopene and 40% at 50 microM lycopene after a 24-hr incubation. In the Comet assay, lycopene-treated cells showed less DNA damage than did placebo-treated cells. The inhibition of Hep3B cell growth in this study demonstrates the antitumor properties of lycopene.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Lycopene, a major carotenoid component of tomato, has a potential anticancer activity in many types of cancer. Epidemiological and clinical trials rarely provide evidence for mechanisms of the compound's action, and studies on its effect on cancer of different cell origins are now being done. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of lycopene on cell cycle and cell viability in eight human cancer cell lines. METHODS: Human cell lines were treated with lycopene (1-5 uM) for 48 and 96 h. Cell viability was monitored using the method of MTT. The cell cycle was analyzed by flow cytometry, and apoptotic cells were identified by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick labeling (TUNEL) and by DAPI. RESULTS: Our data showed a significant decrease in the number of viable cells in three cancer cells lines (HT-29, T84 and MCF-7) after 48 h treatment with lycopene, and changes in the fraction of cells retained in different cell cycle phases. Lycopene promoted also cell cycle arrest followed by decreased cell viability in majority of cell lines after 96 h, as compared to controls. Furthermore, an increase in apoptosis was observed in four cell lines (T-84, HT-29, MCF-7 and DU145) when cells were treated with lycopene. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings show the capacity of lycopene to inhibit cell proliferation, arrest cell cycle in different phases and increase apoptosis, mainly in breast, colon and prostate lines after 96 h. These observations suggest that lycopene may alter cell cycle regulatory proteins depending on the type of cancer and the dose of lycopene administration. Taken together, these data indicated that the antiproliferative effect of lycopene was cellular type, time and dose-dependent. KEY WORDS: lycopene, cancer, bioactive compounds, cell cycle.  相似文献

Are lycopene metabolites metabolically active?   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Lycopene is the most abundant carotenoid found in tomatoes and thus has been touted as the bioactive component for the reduced risk of chronic diseases such as prostate cancer. We and others hypothesize that lycopene metabolites are responsible for positively modulating biomarkers and risk factors for the prevention of chronic diseases. Lycopene metabolites circulate in serum and accumulate in tissues at concentrations equivalent to bioactive retinoids. Recent studies report that lycopene metabolites reduce the proliferation of cancer cells, induce apoptosis, enhance gap junction communication between cells, alter normal cell cycle progression, and modulate androgen signaling pathways. Here we review recent literature and provide new evidence to suggest that lycopene metabolites may be bioactive at physiological concentrations.  相似文献

Animal and epidemiological studies point to a cancer preventive/therapeutic role for tomato products and its antioxidant, lycopene. It is hypothesized that lycopene will behave as an antioxidant at low concentrations and as a prooxidant at high concentrations in LNCaP human prostate cancer cell culture systems. We characterized the antioxidant, and prooxidant effects of a hexane extract of tomato paste (TP) and water solubilized lycopene at different concentrations using a prostate cancer cell line. Placebo (5% triglyceride, Roche Inc.) was used as a control. After 6, 24 hr and 48 hr incubation, LNCaP cells were harvested and used for each measurement. Cellular proliferation was determined using the MTT colorimetric assay. Lycopene and TP hexane extract inhibited cell growth in a dose-dependent (0.1-50 microM lycopene) manner and growth inhibition was 55% and 35% at 1 microM lycopene and TP hexane extract, respectively after 48 hr incubation. The levels of 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine/deoxyguanosine (an oxidative DNA damage product) was significantly increased starting at 5 microM lycopene from both TP hexane extract and pure lycopene after 24 and 48 hr incubation with no protection at the lower concentrations. Malondialdehyde formation (a lipid peroxidation product measured by HPLC separation of the MDA-TBA adduct) was significantly reduced at low concentrations (0.1-1 microM) of lycopene in all treatments. Clinically relevant concentrations of lycopene and the tomato fraction containing lycopene significantly reduced LNCaP cancer cell survival which can only be partially explained by increased DNA damage at high lycopene concentrations (> 5 microM). Low concentrations of lycopene acted as a lipid antioxidant but did not protect DNA.  相似文献

Several studies indicated that people who live in the Mediterranean region have very low rates of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. It is well known that Mediterranean-style diet is rich in vegetables, tomato, fruit, fish and olive oil. These important dietary components may contribute to lower risk of cancer. Lycopene, a major component in tomato, exhibited potential anticarcinogenic activity. Previous studies showed that consumption of fish containing eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) correlated with reduced risk of cancer. However, the combined effects of lycopene and EPA on the proliferation of human colon cancer have not been studied well yet. Thus, we investigated the anticancer properties and therapeutic potential of lycopene and EPA in human colon cancer HT-29 cells. In this study, we determined the combined effects of lycopene and EPA on the proliferation of human colon cancer HT-29 cells. We demonstrated that low concentration of lycopene and EPA could synergistically inhibit the proliferation of colon cancer cells. The inhibitory mechanism was associated with suppression of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/Akt signaling pathway. Furthermore, treatment of lycopene and EPA also synergistically blocked the activation of downstream mTOR molecule. Immunocytochemical staining results revealed that lycopene and EPA could also up-regulate the expression of apoptotic proteins such as Bax and Fas ligand to suppress cell survival. In conclusion, our novel findings suggest that lycopene and EPA synergistically inhibited the growth of human colon cancer HT-29 cells even at low concentration. The inhibitory effects of lycopene and EPA on cell proliferation of human colon cancer HT-29 cells were, in part, associated with the down-regulation of the PI-3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway.  相似文献

Numerous studies on human prostate cancer cell lines indicate a role for arachidonic acid (AA) and its oxidative metabolites in prostate cancer proliferation. The metabolism of AA by either the cyclooxygenase (COX) or the lipoxygenase (LOX) pathways generates eicosanoids involved in tumor promotion, progression, and metastasis. In particular, products of the 5-LOX pathway (including 5-HETE and 5-oxo-EET) have been implicated as potential 'survival factors' that may confer escape after androgen withdrawal therapy through fatty-acid (i.e., AA) drive. Potent natural dietary antioxidant compounds such as lycopene and lycophyll, with tissue tropism for human prostate, have been shown to be effective in ameliorating generalized oxidative stress at the DNA level. Suppressing the 5-LOX axis pharmacologically is also a promising avenue for intervention in human patients. The recently recognized direct interaction of the astaxanthin-based soft-drug Cardax to human 5-LOX with molecular modeling, and the downregulation of both 5-HETE and 5-oxo-EET in vivo in a murine peritonitis model, suggest that other important dietary carotenoids may share this enzyme regulatory feature. In the current study, the acyclic tomato carotene lycopene (in all-trans and 5-cis isomeric configurations) and its natural dihydroxy analog lycophyll (also present in tomato fruit) were subjected to molecular modeling calculations in order to investigate their predicted binding interaction(s) with human 5-LOX. Two bioactive oxidative metabolites of lycopene (4-methyl-8-oxo-2,4,6-nonatrienal and 2,7,11-trimethyl-tetradecahexaene-1,14-dial) were also investigated. A homology model of 5-LOX was constructed using 8-LOX and 15-LOX structures as templates. The model was validated by calculating the binding energy of Cardax to 5-LOX, which was demonstrated to be in good agreement with the published experimental data. Blind docking calculations were carried out in order to explore the possible binding sites of the carotenoids on 5-LOX, followed by focused docking to more accurately calculate the predicted energy of binding. Lycopene and lycophyll were predicted to bind with high affinity in the superficial cleft at the interface of the beta-barrel and the catalytic domain of 5-LOX (the 'cleavage site'). Carotenoid binding at this cleavage site provides the structural rationale by which polyenic compounds could modify the 5-LOX enzymatic function via an allosteric mechanism, or by radical scavenging in proximity to the active center. In addition, the two bioactive metabolites of lycopene were predicted to bind to the catalytic site with high affinity--therefore suggesting potential direct competitive inhibition of 5-LOX activity that should be shared by both lycopene and lycophyll after in vivo supplementation, particularly in the case of the dial metabolite.  相似文献

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among men in the United States. Studies show that people with diets rich in tomato-based foods have reduced risks of cancer, viz., prostate cancer. This is attributed, in part, to lycopene, the most abundant carotenoid in tomatoes. Thus, we studied the effect of lycopene at physiologically attainable concentrations on apoptosis, cellular proliferation, and necrosis in LNCaP human prostate cancer cells. Cells at 37 degrees C and >80% confluency were treated with media alone (0.32% tetrahydrofuran vehicle) or with increasing concentrations (0.3-3.0 microM) of lycopene overnight. After washing monolayers, analyses by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) showed that cellular accumulation of lycopene was 5.5 +/- 0.8, 14.0 +/- 3.2, and 36.7 +/- 12.3 pmole/10(6) cells for 0.3, 1.0, and 3.0 muM, respectively, and not detected in control cells. Lycopene did not alter cellular proliferation because bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) incorporation and cell numbers were identical among groups. However, results of a 3[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay showed that mitochondrial function decreased 61%-83% with increasing concentrations of lycopene (P < 0.001). Cytotoxicity and necrosis did not contribute to this effect because lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release (1.5%-1.8%) and trypan blue exclusion (89%-93%) were similar. Subsequently, we demonstrated that increasing concentrations of lycopene significantly (P < 0.05) reduced mitochondrial transmembrane potential, induced the release of mitochondrial cytochrome c, and increased annexin V binding, confirming induction of apoptosis. Thus, lycopene at physiologically relevant concentrations did not affect cellular proliferation or promote necrosis but clearly altered mitochondrial function and induced apoptosis in LNCaP human prostate cancer cells.  相似文献

In our previous study, we demonstrated that lycopene can inhibit the proliferation of androgen-dependent prostate LNCaP cancer cells through the activation of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ)-liver X receptor alpha (LXRα)-ATP-binding cassette transporter 1 (ABCA1) pathway. However, it is still unclear whether lycopene possesses similar effects in androgen-independent prostate cancer cells DU145 and PC-3. As lycopene inhibited the proliferation of both cell types to a similar extent, we chose DU145 cells for most of the subsequent studies. We show that lycopene significantly increased protein and mRNA expression of PPARγ, LXRα and ABCA1 and cholesterol efflux (i.e., decreased cellular cholesterol and increased cholesterol in culture medium). Lycopene (10 μM) in the presence of a specific antagonist of PPARγ (GW9662) or of LXRα (GGPP) restored the proliferation of DU145 cells and significantly suppressed lycopene-induced protein and mRNA expression of PPARγ and LXRα and cholesterol efflux. Liver X receptor α knockdown by siRNA against LXRα significantly promoted the proliferation of DU145 cells, whereas si-LXRα knockdown followed by incubation with lycopene (10 μM) restored the proliferation to the control level. Furthermore, lycopene in combination with the LXRα agonist T0901317 exhibited synergistic effects on cell proliferation and protein expression of PPARγ, LXRα and ABCA1. These results demonstrate that lycopene can inhibit DU145 cell proliferation via PPARγ-LXRα-ABCA1 pathway and that lycopene and T0901317 exhibit synergistic effects.  相似文献

Role of lycopene and tomato products in prostate health   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Epidemiological evidence associating the decreased risk of prostate cancer with frequent consumption of tomato products inspired us to conduct a small intervention trial among patients diagnosed with prostate adenocarcinoma. Tomato sauce pasta was consumed daily for 3 weeks before their scheduled prostatectomy, and biomarkers of tomato intake, prostate cancer progression and oxidative DNA damage were followed in blood and the available prostate tissue. The whole food intervention was so well accepted by the subjects that the blood lycopene (the primary carotenoid in tomatoes responsible for their red color) doubled and the prostate lycopene concentration tripled during this short period. Oxidative DNA damage in leukocytes and prostate tissues was significantly diminished, the latter mainly in the tumor cell nuclei, possibly due to the antioxidant properties of lycopene. Quite surprising was the decrease in blood prostate-specific antigen, which was explained by the increase in apoptotic death of prostate cells, especially in carcinoma regions. Prostate cancer cell cultures (LNCaP) were also sensitive to lycopene in growth medium, which caused an increased apoptosis and arrested the cell cycle. A possible explanation of these promising results may reside in lycopene effects on the genes governing the androgen stimulation of prostate growth, cytokines and on the enzymes producing reactive oxygen species, all of which were recently discovered by nutrigenomic techniques. Other phytochemicals in tomato may act in synergy with lycopene to potentiate protective effects and to help in the maintenance of prostate health.  相似文献

There is a lot of interest in the health benefits of dietary carotenoids and on the relationship of these compounds with smoke. In particular, it is unknown if the enhanced cancer risk observed in smokers following β-carotene supplementation can be also found using other carotenoids. Here, we studied the effects of the tomato carotenoid lycopene on molecular pathways involved in cell cycle progression, apoptosis and survival in immortalized RAT-1 fibroblasts exposed to cigarette smoke condensate (TAR). Lycopene (0.5–2.0 μM) inhibited cell growth in a dose-and time-dependent manner, by arresting cell cycle progression and by promoting apoptosis in cells exposed to TAR. The arrest of cell cycle was independent of p53 and of 8-OH-dG DNA damage and related to a decreased expression of cyclin D1. Moreover, the carotenoid up-regulated apoptosis and down-regulated the phosphorylation of AKT and Bad in cells exposed to TAR. Such an effect was associated to an inhibition of TAR-induced expression of Cox-2 and hsp90, which is known to maintain AKT activity. This study suggests that lycopene, differently from β-carotene, can exert protective effects against cigarette smoke condensate.  相似文献

Are the health attributes of lycopene related to its antioxidant function?   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A variety of epidemiological trials have suggested that higher intake of lycopene-containing foods (primarily tomato products) or blood lycopene concentrations are associated with decreased cardiovascular disease and prostate cancer risk. Of the carotenoids tested, lycopene has been demonstrated to be the most potent in vitro antioxidant leading many researchers to conclude that the antioxidant properties of lycopene are responsible for disease prevention. In our review of human and animal trials with lycopene, or lycopene-containing extracts, there is limited support for the in vivo antioxidant function for lycopene. Moreover, tissue levels of lycopene appear to be too low to play a meaningful antioxidant role. We conclude that there is an overall shortage of supportive evidence for the “antioxidant hypothesis” as lycopene’s major in vivo mechanism of action. Our laboratory has postulated that metabolic products of lycopene, the lycopenoids, may be responsible for some of lycopene’s reported bioactivity.  相似文献

Lycopene is a lipid-soluble pigment that is mainly found in tomato. It is the carotenoid that presents the highest antioxidant potential, and due to that, it has been implicated in a decrease of the risk of several oxidative-stress-related disorders, such as cancer, inflammatory diseases and osteoporosis. Nevertheless, at the present, there is no detailed information about how lycopene affects bone metabolism. The aim of the present work was to characterize the cellular and molecular effects of lycopene on human osteoclast and osteoblast differentiation and function. It was observed that lycopene, at levels found in plasma after the ingestion of lycopene-containing products, decreased osteoclast differentiation but did not affect cell density/survival; calcium-phosphate resorbing ability was also decreased. On the other hand, osteoblast proliferation (via a decrease on apoptosis) and differentiation were increased in the presence of lycopene. The observed effects in both cell types appeared to be related to significant changes in MEK signaling pathway, but also in protein kinase C pathway in osteoclasts and NFkB signaling in osteoblasts. In conclusion, lycopene appears to promote an anabolic state of bone metabolism, stimulating osteoblastogenesis and inhibiting osteoclastogenesis, which may contribute to the promotion of a proper health status of bone tissue. This information might be relevant for the prevention and delay in the progression of osteolytic bone conditions.  相似文献

To better understand the potential function of carotenoids in the chemoprevention of cancers, mechanistic understanding of carotenoid action on genetic and epigenetic signaling pathways is critically needed for human studies. The use of appropriate animal models is the most justifiable approach to resolve mechanistic issues regarding protective effects of carotenoids at specific organs and tissue sites. While the initial impetus for studying the benefits of carotenoids in cancer prevention was their antioxidant capacity and pro-vitamin A activity, significant advances have been made in the understanding of the action of carotenoids with regards to other mechanisms. This review will focus on two common carotenoids, provitamin A carotenoid β-cryptoxanthin and non-provitamin A carotenoid lycopene, as promising chemopreventive agents or chemotherapeutic compounds against cancer development and progression. We reviewed animal studies demonstrating that β-cryptoxanthin and lycopene effectively prevent the development or progression of various cancers and the potential mechanisms involved. We highlight recent research that the biological functions of β-cryptoxanthin and lycopene are mediated, partially via their oxidative metabolites, through their effects on key molecular targeting events, such as NF-κB signaling pathway, RAR/PPARs signaling, SIRT1 signaling pathway, and p53 tumor suppressor pathways. The molecular targets by β-cryptoxanthin and lycopene, offer new opportunities to further our understanding of common and distinct mechanisms that involve carotenoids in cancer prevention. This article is part of a Special Issue entitled Carotenoids recent advances in cell and molecular biology edited by Johannes von Lintig and Loredana Quadro.  相似文献

The correlation between diet and variation in gene-expression is an important field which could be considered to approach cancer pathways comprehension. We examined the effects of lycopene on breast cancer cell lines using pangenomic arrays. Lycopene is derived predominantly from tomatoes and tomato products and there is some epidemiologic evidence for a preventive role in breast cancer. Previously, we investigated lycopene in breast cancer using a dedicated breast cancer microarray. To confirm these results and explore pathways other than those implicated in breast cancer, for this study we used pangenomic arrays containing 25,000 oligonucleotides. This in vitro study assayed two human mammary cancer cell lines (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231), and a fibrocystic breast cell line (MCF-10a) treated or not with 10 microM lycopene for 48 h. A competitive hybridization was performed between Cy3-labeled lycopene treated RNA and Cy5-labeled untreated RNA to define differentially expressed genes. Using t-test analysis, a subset of 391 genes was found to be differentially modulated by lycopene between estrogen-positive cells (MCF-7) and estrogen-negative cells (MDA-MB-231, MCF-10a). Hierarchical clustering revealed 726 discriminatory genes between breast cancer cell lines (MCF-7, MDA-MB-231) and the fibrocystic breast cell line (MCF-10a). Modified gene expression was observed in various molecular pathways, such as apoptosis, cell communication, MAPK and cell cycle as well as xenobiotic metabolism, fatty acid biosynthesis and gap junctional intercellular communication.  相似文献

The activation of nuclear receptors, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) and liver X receptor alpha (LXRα), has been shown to inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells. This study examined whether the anti-proliferative effect of lycopene on androgen-dependent human prostate cancer (LNCaP) cells involves the up-regulation of the expression of PPARγ and LXRα. As expected, lycopene treatment (2.5-10 μM) significantly inhibited the proliferation of LNCaP cells during incubation for 96 h. Lycopene significantly increased the protein and mRNA expression of PPARγ and LXRα at 24 and 48 h, while the increased in the expression of ATP-binding cassette transporter 1 (ABCA1) was only evident 96 h. In addition, lycopene significantly decreased cellular total cholesterol levels and increased apoA1 protein expression at 96 h. Incubation of LNCaP cells with lycopene (10 μM) in the presence (20 μM) of a specific antagonist of PPARγ (GW9662) and LXRα (GGPP) restored the proliferation of LNCaP cells to the control levels and significantly suppressed protein expression of PPARγ and LXRα as well as increased cellular total cholesterol levels. LXRα knockdown by siRNA against LXRα significantly enhanced the proliferation of LNCaP cells, whereas si-LXRα knockdown followed by incubation with lycopene (10 μM) restored the proliferation to the control level. The present study is the first to demonstrate that the anti-proliferative effect of lycopene on LNCaP cells involves the activation of the PPARγ-LXRα-ABCA1 pathway, leading to reduced cellular total cholesterol levels.  相似文献

The biochemical mechanisms underlying the inhibitory effects of lycopene, the main tomato carotenoid, on the growth of cancer cells are largely unknown. It has been hypothesized that lycopene derivatives may act as ligands for a nuclear receptor in analogy to retinoic acid, the hormone derived from beta-carotene. The inhibition of human mammary cancer (MCF-7) cell growth and the transactivation of the retinoic acid receptor (RAR) reporter gene by synthetic acyclo-retinoic acid, the open chain analog of retinoic acid, was compared to the effects of lycopene and retinoic acid in the same systems. Acyclo-retinoic acid activated the DR-5 retinoic acid response element with a approximately 100-fold lower potency than retinoic acid. This effect was independent of cotransfection with the RARalpha receptor. Lycopene exhibited only very modest activity in this system. In contrast to the results from the transactivation studies, acyclo-retinoic acid, retinoic acid, and lycopene inhibited cell growth with a similar potency. Preincubation with each of the three compounds slowed down cell cycle progression from G1 to S phase. In summary, acyclo-retinoic acid inhibited cancer cell growth and interacted with RAR. However, it exhibited low affinity for RAR and a correspondingly low efficacy in activating this receptor, indicating that RAR does not mediate the growth inhibitory effect of the compound. In addition, the concentrations of acyclo-retinoic acid and of lycopene required for inducing inhibition of cell growth were similar, suggesting that acyclo-retinoic acid is unlikely to be the active metabolite of lycopene.  相似文献

Since tomato consumption is associated with decreased risk of prostate cancer, cell proliferation, cell cycle progression and apoptosis by LNCaP human prostate cancer cells might elucidate action of tomatoes. To discover possible bioactive fractions of tomatoes, whole tomato paste and its water and hexane extract were used and biomarkers of carcinogenesis were measured. After 6, 24 and 48 hr of incubation, cells were harvested and determined cell growth. Tomato paste hexane extract inhibited cell proliferation by 33% compared to the control after 48 hr incubation. Whole tomato paste and its water extract showed only modest growth inhibition. Tomato paste hexane extract at 5 microM lycopene increased G2/M-phase of the cell cycle from 13 to 28% and decreased S-phase cells from 45 to 29%. Apoptosis was observed at the 5 microM hexane extract at the late stages during 24 and 48 hr treatment. Tomato, therefore, deserves study as a potential chemopreventive/chemotherapeutic agent.  相似文献

In melanoma development and progression, platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) has been suggested to modulate the microenvironment, especially stromal fibroblasts, to the benefit of melanoma growth, invasion, and metastasis. Lycopene, a natural carotenoid that is abundant in tomato, has been shown to inhibit proliferation of several types of cancer cells. However, little attention has been paid to skin fibroblasts and melanoma cells. In the present study, we determined the effects of lycopene on stromal fibroblasts and their interactions with melanoma cells. We found that lycopene inhibited PDGF-BB-induced human Hs68 skin fibroblast migration on gelatin and collagen. Further analysis showed that lycopene inhibited PDGF-BB-induced signaling in human Hs68 and primary cultured skin fibroblasts. PDGF-BB-induced phosphorylation of PDGF receptor beta (PDGFR-beta), extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2), p38, and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) was attenuated by lycopene in a concentration-dependent manner, whereas the total expression of each protein was not affected. Interestingly, dot binding assay revealed that lycopene could directly bind to human PDGF-BB in PBS and human plasma, indicating that lycopene can bind to PDGF-BB in both in vitro and in vivo conditions. In functional studies, lycopene inhibited melanoma-induced fibroblast migration in a noncontact coculture system and attenuated signaling in fibroblasts simulated by melanoma-derived conditioned medium. Our results provide the first evidence showing that lycopene is an effective inhibitor of migration of stromal fibroblasts and this effect may contribute to its antitumor activity.  相似文献
