Serum corticosterone excess was induced by the administration of corticosterone acetate to adrenal intact rats. Different lipid classes were studied in unwashed and washed (epididymal sperm and fluid free) caput and cauda epididymides. The unwashed caput epididymidis registered a significant decrease in total lipid, cholesterol and phospholipid while total glyceride glycerol and its fractions were not altered after corticosterone treatment. Among phospholipid fractions phosphatidyl inositol, choline and ethanolamine showed a significant decrease. Unlike the unwashed caput epididymidis, the washed caput region recorded a marked increase in total lipid, glyceride glycerol and its fractions. However, total lipid in the washed cauda region significantly increased and the increase was mainly due to triacyl glycerol. Though the phospholipid fractions phosphatidyl choline and ethanolamine showed an increase, the total phospholipid was not altered significantly. Serum testosterone and prolactin registered a significant decrease while gonadotropins were unaltered. On the withdrawal of corticosterone treatment, all the lipid classes turned to normalcy along with serum testosterone and prolactin. It is concluded that corticosterone excess favours lipid accumulation in the sperm free epididymal tissue and its influence on epididymis is region specific and reversible.  相似文献

Significant differences in lipid composition have been found between normal human lymphocytes and polymorphonuclear leukocytes (isolated from blood by means of glass-bead columns), abnormal leukocytes from patients with acute and chronic leukemia, and leukocytes from peritoneal exudates. Lipid extracts of isolated leukocytes were analyzed for total lipid, phosphorus, cholesterol, and plasmalogens. Individual phospholipids and neutral lipids were separated by thin-layer chromatography. The major phospholipids were phosphatidyl choline, ethanolamine glycerophosphatides, sphingomyelin, phosphatidyl serine, and phosphatidyl inositol. Plasmalogen was found mainly as phosphatidal ethanolamine. The neutral lipid fractions contained free cholesterol and various amounts of triglyceride, but little esterified cholesterol. Normal lymphocytes contained about half as much total lipid per cell as normal polymorphonuclear leukocytes, with a similar cholesterol:-lipid-P ratio but relatively more lecithin and less ethanolamine glycerophosphatide. Normal mature leukocytes, compared with immature cells of the same morphological series, had a higher total lipid content per cell, more cholesterol, and a higher ratio of cholesterol to lipid-P. Little difference was found in total lipid-P per cell, but mature cells contained relatively less lecithin and more sphingomyelin. These findings may reflect differences in the relative content of various intracellular organelles as well as possible differences in the quantity and composition of the plasma membrane.  相似文献

1. The predominant lipids of nerve cords, ganglion and brain from horseshoe crabs were cholesterol (11% of lipid) and phospholipid (81% of lipid). 2. Major phospholipids were phosphatidyl ethanolamine and phosphatidyl choline with lesser amounts of phosphatidyl serine and phosphatidyl inositol and sphingomyelin. 3. The phospholipid fraction was characterized by a high content of plasmalogen, i.e. alk-1-enyl acyl phosphatides, so that 42% of the ethanolamine phosphatides were the plasmalogen, phosphatidal ethanolamine. 4. Phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine were high in polyunsaturation with 20:4 and 20:5 major fatty acids. Sphingomyelin had predominantly long chain saturated fatty acids. 5. Cerebrosides and gangliosides, which are associated with vertebrate nerve tissues, were absent from nerves of horseshoe crabs.  相似文献

The fatty acid composition of wheat seedling roots changed in response to temperature. As temperature declined, the level of linolenic acid increased and the level of linoleic acid decreased. The distribution of phospholipid classes was not influenced by temperature. Phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine were the predominant phospholipids isolated and comprised 85% of the total lipid phosphorus. Smaller quantities of phosphatidyl glycerol, phosphatidyl inositol, phosphatidic acid, and phosphatidyl serine were isolated. The fatty acid composition of phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine were the same and temperature affected the fatty acid composition of both phospholipids in the same manner.Growth in the presence of the substituted pyridazinone, BASF 13 338 (4-chloro-5-dimethylamino-2-phenyl-3(2H)pyridazinone), reduced the level of linolenic acid and increased the level of linoleic acid in the phosphatidyl choline, phosphatidyl ethanolamine, and total polar lipid fractions. BASF 13 338 did not affect the levels of palmitate, stearate, and oleate or the distribution of phospholipid classes.Respiration rates of wheat root tips were measured over a range of temperatures. The respiration rate declined as the temperature decreased. Neither the temperature at which the tissue was grown nor BASF 13 338 treatment influenced the ability of root tips to respire at any temperature from 4 to 30 C. The results indicated that the relative proportion of linolenic acid to linoleic acid did not influence the plants ability to grow and respire over the range of temperatures tested.  相似文献

The lipid level (fresh weight basis) of Cuscuta reflexa Roxb. was related to the lipid content of the host plants Meilicago saliva L., Helianthus annuus L., Pisum sativum L. and Lantana camara L. Parasitizing by the dodder significantly increased the total lipid level of the hosts. The increase was mainly due to enhancement in the neutral lipid fraction.
The level of phospholipid in the parasite was always higher than in its hosts. Phospholidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine constituted about 65% of the total phospholipid of Cuscuta. This was followed by phosphatidyl inositol (ca 20%) and phosphatidyl glycerol (ca 12%). Phosphatidic acid constituted only ca 3% of the phospholipids of Cuscuta. Although the total phospholipid levels of various host plants were not affected as a result of the infection by Cuscuta, a significant decrease occurred in the levels of phosphatidyl eholine and phosphatidyl ethanolamine as well as marked increases in phosphatidyl inositol and phosphatidic acid. The infected tissue showed an increase in phospholipase D activity as compared with the controls. The results have been discussed in relation to changes in permeability of the infected tissue.  相似文献

The influence of thyroxine-induced hyperthyroidism on testicular neutral and phospholipids was studied in prepubertal, pubertal and adult rats. Thyroxine treatment (25 micrograms/100 g body weight) for 1 month decreased testicular total lipids, total glyceride glycerols, total cholesterol and total phospholipids. Different classes of glyceride glycerol, cholesterol and phospholipid were also diminished due to thyroxine treatment. All classes of lipids returned to the euthyroid level after the withdrawal of thyroxine treatment. The data obtained in the present study suggest that thyroid hormones have a definite influence on testicular lipid metabolism in rats.  相似文献

E ects of prolactin (PRL), bromocriptine (Br), testosterone propionate (TP), dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and the combinations of these androgens with PRL/Br on specific activities of adenosine triphosphatases (ATPases) of seminal vesicles and cranial and caudal prostates were studied in castrated adult bonnet monkeys. Castration decreased all ATPases (sodium/potassium, magnesium and calcium dependent) of seminal vesicles and both the lobes of prostate. PRL restored the normal activities of all ATPases in both the organs. Br given alone decreased all ATPases of prostate but caused no significant alteration, particularly calcium dependent ATPases of seminal vesicles and caudal prostate. TP/DHT replacement restored all ATPases of both the organs to the normal levels. PRL + TP/DHT further enhanced all the ATPases activities of all the regions studied. Br + TP/DHT decreased all ATPases but it did not produce any alteration in the calcium ATPases of seminal vesicles. The results suggest that prolactin facilitates membrane transport enzymes in the cranial and caudal prostate and seminal vesicles of adult castrated bonnet monkeys.  相似文献

Administration of testosterone propionate (TP; 1 mg/kg body weight/day; im, for 30 days) to mature male bonnet monkeys, decreased total lipids, glyceride glycerol and cholesterol concentrations in hepatic tissue. The decrease in glyceride glycerol was due to decrease in monoacyl and triacyl glycerol. Both, free and esterified cholesterol were decreased after testosterone administration. Eventhough, total phospholipid was not significantly altered, phosphatidylserine and cardiolipin were increased, due to testosterone administration. Testosterone inhibited NADP-isocitrate dehydrogenase activity in liver. The findings suggest that testosterone acts as a lipolytic hormone and its action may be direct through its specific receptors in liver.  相似文献

The lipid compositions of the gradient-purified gastric microsomal membranes from the fundic mucosa of pig, rabbit, and frog were determined. The total lipid content varied widely. Compared to the rabbit (21.6 ± 0.6 mg/100 mg protein), the pig had about twice as much and the frog about three times as much lipid. The levels of cholesterol were higher in both mammalian species (about 32% of the lipid) compared to frog (23%). Phospholipids accounted for about 45, 54, and 52% of the total microsomal lipids from pig, rabbit, and frog and the molar ratios of cholesterol to phospholipid in the three species were 1.95, 1.6, and 1.17, respectively. Phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine together constituted about 75% of the total phospholipids in pig and frog and 93% in rabbit gastric microsomes. Sphingomyelin comprised 19.3, 3.2, and 1.5% in pig, rabbit, and frog, respectively. Phosphatidyl inositol constituted 5, 2.7, and 23.6% in pig, rabbit, and frog, respectively. The ratios of phosphatidyl ethanolamine to phosphatidyl choline were 1.17, 1.1, and 0.85 in pig, rabbit, and frog, respectively. The saturated fatty acids 16:0 and 18:0 and the unsaturated fatty acid 18:1 and 18:2 were the predominant fatty acids in all phospholipids. The ratios of saturated to unsaturated fatty acids were between 0.8 and 0.9 in phosphatidyl choline and 0.27 and 0.5 in phosphatidyl ethanolamine from all three species. The contributions by saturated fatty acids were much more in phosphatidyl inositol and sphingomyelin than in phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine from all species. Position 1 of phosphatidyl choline had 63% saturated and 37% unsaturated fatty acids; while the reverse was true for position 2. Phosphatidyl ethanolamine, however, had 85% saturated fatty acids in position 1 compared to only 25% in position 2. Arachidonic acid (20:4) was present in significant amounts in all species located exclusively at position 2 of both phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine.  相似文献

Effects of prolactin (PRL), bromocriptine (Br), testosterone propionate (TP), dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and the combinations of these androgens with PRL/Br on the specific activities of caudal and cranial prostatic cellular enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism in castrated mature bonnet monkeys have been studied. Castration decreased all the enzymes studied such as hexokinase (HK), 6-phosphofructokinase (6-PFK), glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-3-PD), pyruvate kinase (PK), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6-PGD) in the cranial and caudal prostates. PRL elevated the activities of all the enzymes above normal except G-3-PD of cranial lobe. In the caudal lobe, PRL brought back the activities of HK, PFK, PK, G-6-PD to normal and 6-PGD above normal except G-3-PD. TP/DHT treatment increased all the enzymes in both the lobes. PRL given along with TP/DHT further enhanced the androgen action with regard to HK, PK, G-6-PD and 6-PGD of cranial and PFK, G-3-PD, PK, G-6-PD and 6-PGD of caudal lobe. Br treatment did not produce any alteration of these enzymes in both the lobes. In the cranial lobe, during Br+TP/DHT treatment, the stimulating effects of androgen were unaffected on all the enzymes except PK. On the other hand in the caudal, the stimulatory effects of androgens were affected and the activities of HK, PFK, PK and 6-PGD were significantly decreased. The present results suggest that PRL has a direct as well as a synergistic action with androgens on enzymes of EMP and HMP shunt in the prostates of monkeys.  相似文献

The lipid classes, fatty acid methyl esters and the sterols of oilpalm pollen were analysed. The neutral lipid fraction consisted of triglycerides, esterified and free sterols and trace amounts of hydrocarbons. Monogalactosyl and digalactosyl diglycerides, phosphatidyl choline, phosphatidyl inositol and phosphatidyl ethanolamine represented the polar lipids. The major fatty acids were linoleic, palmitic and linolenic acids together with small to trace amounts of oleic, stearic, arachidic, myristic, lauric, palmitoleic and margaric acids. Unsaturated fatty acids predominated over saturated ones in the ratio of 3:2. The 4-desmethyl sterols were the major phytosterols in the free form but they constituted a lower proportion of the sterols in the esterified state. 28-Isofucosterol was isolated and characterized as the principal sterol.  相似文献

The major phospholipid classes of Escherichia coli B, phosphatidyl ethanolamine, cardiolipin, and phosphatidyl glycerol, were quantitated at different stages of the growth cycle. The organisms were incubated at both 27 and 37 C. Significant differences were observed both in the amounts of total lipid phosphorus per gram (dry weight) of cells and in the relative percentages of the individual phospholipids. At 37 C the total amount of lipid phosphorus decreased significantly throughout the growth cycle. However, at 27 C total lipid phosphorus accumulated. The patterns of the three major phospholipid classes of Escherichia coli exhibited complex quantitative changes. In addition, some evidence based on glycerol to phosphate molar ratios indicated that phosphatidyl glycerolphosphate replaced phosphatidyl glycerol during the late growth stages of E. coli B when grown at 27 C. A comparative analysis of phospholipid and fatty acid patterns led to a hypothesis attempting to explain some reported variations in the lipid composition of E. coli under different conditions of growth.  相似文献

The effect of pretreatment of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) roots with choline chloride or ethanolamine on leaf phospholipid composition and light-induced leaf damage during chilling was studied. Photooxidative chlorophyll degradation was similarly inhibited by both amino alcohols. The decrease of the chlorophyll a/chlorophyll b ratio and the increase of polyunsaturated-fatty-acid degradation during chilling in the light were equally inhibited by pretreatment with choline chloride or ethanolamine. Treatment with choline chloride and ethanolamine caused, respectively, 43% and 26% increases in the total phospholipid contents of the leaves. After treatment with choline chloride, the phosphatidylcholine content was higher than the content of phosphatidylethanolamine; the reverse was true after treatment with ethanolamine. The chlorophyll concentration increased less than the phospholipid concentration, resulting in a decreased chlorophyll/phospholipid ratio of treated leaves. During chilling in the light, degradation of phosphatidylcholine, ethanolamine and phosphatidyl glycerol occurred. Phosphatidyl glycerol was less sensitive than phosphatidylcholine and ethanolamine. The degradation was equally inhibited by pretreatment with either amino alcohol. Total lipid extracted from wild-type Trichophyton terrestre CDC-X285 was found to be 2.0 percent of the dry cell weight. The total lipid contained the following phospholipid components identified by silicic acid-impregnated thin-layer and paper chromatography: phosphatidyl inositol, phosphatidyl choline, phosphatidyl serine, and phosphatidic acid. The total lipid extracted from the phenotype T. terrestre 7048-1 isolated from the Apollo 16 Microbial Ecology Evaluation Device (MEED) was found to vary according to the time at which the phospholipids were extracted. The Trichophyton phenotype was selected from a cuvette housed in the MEED exposed to specific space parameters including ultraviolet light of known wavelengths and energy levels in deep space. The phospholipid components, identified in the phenotype were phosphatidyl ethanolamine and cardiolipin. The major lipid fraction was composed of digalactosyl diglyceride and monogalactosyl diglyceride. An unusual lipid was detected in the phenotype, which appeared to be sterol glycoside.  相似文献

A study was made of the amount of cholesterol and its ethers (phosphatidyl choline, phosphatidyl ethanolamine, sphingomyelin, phosphatidyl serine, and phosphatidyl inositol) in mucosa and membrane of the small intestine brush border 24 h after 4 Gy and 2 h after 20 Gy irradiation. No changes in the lipid content of mucosa and membrane of the brush border were noted after 4 Gy irradiation. Exposure to 20 Gy radiation doubled the number of cholesterol ethers and made the number of individual phospholipids and cholesterol increase by nearly 1.5 times. The amount of phosphatidyl serine in the brush border membrane increased by almost 3 times; the concentration of other lipids increased by nearly 1.5 times; cholesterol/phospholipid ratio was unchangeable.  相似文献

The lipid composition of the leaves of hardy Vernal and cold-sensitive Caliverde alfalfa plants, grown at different temperatures, was determined. Phosphatidyl glycerol, phosphatidyl inositol, and the sulfolipid content were directly related to growth temperature. Mono- and digalactose diglyceride and phosphatidyl choline and ethanolamine were inversely related to temperature. At corresponding growth temperatures Vernal plants showed higher percentages of mono- and digalactose diglyceride and phosphatidyl choline and ethanolamine than Caliverde plants, while the opposite was true for phosphatidyl glycerol and inositol and sulfolipid. Differences in fatty acid composition of corresponding leaf lipid fractions of plants grown at different temperatures or differences in fatty acid composition between lipid fractions of plants of different varieties in general were negligible.  相似文献

Exposure of adult rats to hypobaric hypoxia caused hypolipidemia, hypotriglyceridemia and hypophospholipidemia. Hypobaric hypoxia produced an increase in liver triglyceride and cholesterol levels and a decrease in lung triglyceride, total phospholipid and phosphatidyl choline. The proportion of phosphatidyl choline in the pulmonary surfactant fraction I phospholipids (responsible for reducing surface tension) decreased (55.2% as compared to 80.4% in control animals). Incorporation of 32-P into liver phosphatidyl ethanolamine was significantly increased, incorporation into lung phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine was increased whereas a decreased incorporation into plasma phosphatidyl choline was observed. The data suggest an enhanced lipid synthesis in liver with a probable impairment of mobilization into plasma.  相似文献

The lipid composition of isolated primary symbiotes was investigated. The symbiotes were found to possess phosphatidyl ethanolamine, phosphatidyl choline, cholesterol, and glycerides. The fatty acids esterified to the various glycerides and glyceride derivatives were found to be predominantly C10, C12, C13, and C14 saturated components.The lipids of the pea aphid were also investigated as a measure of the purity of the symbiote preparation. The same classes of compounds were found, but the fatty acid complement was found to be different. The fatty acids were found to be predominantly C14, C18, C18:1, C18:2, and C18:3. A carotenoid-like pigment, whose absorption maximum in benzene was 460 nm, was also present.The possible significance of the various lipids to the systematic classification of the symbiotes is discussed, along with some insight into what may be an apparent dependency factor of the symbiote for the host.  相似文献

The lipid composition of Bacillus cereus during growth and sporulation was examined. The total lipid extract accounted for 2 to 3% of the dry weight of the cells and consisted of neutral lipids (30 to 40%) and phospholipids (60 to 70%). Phospholipids were separated by thin-layer chromatography into eight components; phosphatidyl ethanolamine, phosphatidyl glycerol, and diphosphatidyl glycerol were the major phospholipids and accounted for over 90% of the total. Also identified was a diglycosyl diglyceride and an alanine ester of phosphatidyl glycerol. Diphosphatidyl glycerol was more difficult to extract than the other components in vegetative and stationary-phase cells, but became increasingly easy to extract during spore maturation, and during sporulation cellular levels increased. Phosphatidyl glycerol had a high turnover rate; it accounted for about 70% of the phospholipid synthesis throughout sporulation but only represented between 30 and 40% of the total phospholipid at any time. Phosphatidyl ethanolamine, on the other hand, accounted for about 20% of the synthesis but was the major phospholipid (50 to 60% of the total).  相似文献

Abstract– In control rats and in rats rendered epileptic by insertion of cobalt slivers into the cerebral cortex, total free fatty acids, free cholesterol, esterified cholesterol, triglycerides and phospholipids were measured in normal and lesion areas of cerebral cortex. The cortical lipid profile of the adult rat resembled that of the whole brain of very young rats rather than that of adult whole brain, with the principal differences from whole adult brain being lower total lipid content, increased proportions of phosphatidyl choline in the phospholipid fraction, and higher levels of cholesterol esters. Cobalt-induced epilepsy was associated with significant changes in cerebral cortical lipids in the area of the lesion and in the non-necrotic tissue adjacent to the lesion. The total lipid in the area of the lesion decreased sharply as a result of reductions in free cholesterol and total phospholipids. The levels of cholesterol esters and triglycerides increased in the area of the lesion, and cholesterol esters were also increased in the adjacent tissue. In addition there were decreases in the proportion of phosphatidyl ethanolamine in the phospholipids from the lesion site and adjacent tissue and decreases in the proportions of oleic, arachidonic and nervonic acids (unsaturated acids), and an increase in the proportions of lignoceric acid in the phospholipids. In the site of the lesion only, we observed a decrease in phospholipid palmitic acid and an appreciable increase in the proportions of an unidentified long-chained fatty acid.  相似文献
