The Program MARK was used to generate and test a plausible set of survival models for brook trout Salvelinus fontinalis and brown trout Salmo trutta to determine whether survival differed by season, species or age class. Apparent survival varied with time and age, but not by species. For the older (1999) age class, survival was lowest during the autumn of their age 1+ year whereas survival was lowest for the younger (2000) age class during the early summer of their age 1+ year. Additionally, estimates of survival for the younger age class exceeded those of the older age class in all but one interval (early summer 2001) but significant differences were observed in only one of these intervals (autumn 2000). To determine whether the observed seasonal differences in survival were related to seasonal differences in movement rates, multi‐strata spatial models were used within Program MARK to determine the probability of moving for each interval. In‐site movement rates were found to be low regardless of season (average for all cohorts combined was 5%). The ability of the multi‐strata modelling approach to detect temporal variability in movement, however, was potentially limited by spatial scale of the study reach ( c . 1 km). Differences in survival between different aged fishes could lead to selection acting on age at maturity or reproductive effort at a given age.  相似文献

Echinoderes komatsui (Kinorhyncha: Cyclorhagida) is a meiobenthic animal inhabiting the interstitial spaces of the sediment on a subtropical tidal flat along the Oura River, Japan. This species mostly occurred within 0–10?mm from the surface of the sediment, and the dispersion pattern was significantly patchy. The population dynamics of E. komatsui were investigated by monthly surveys from January 2014 to May 2016 at four sites along the river, and from April 2015 to May 2016 at one site in the mangrove forest. Echinoderes komatsui occurred all year round; however, the population density showed different patterns among the sampling sites in response to seasonal changes. On the tidal flat, the population density was high in winter, but very low in summer. In the mangrove forest, the density was high (or not low) throughout the year. As was shown in laboratory experiments, E. komatsui survived in 1–44 salinity seawater but died at 0 (salinity experiments), and died within 4.5 days at 40°C (temperature experiments). Therefore, the low population density recorded in summer on the tidal flat was likely caused by high temperature and fresh water. The shade offered by the mangrove forest suppressed the increase in temperature of the sediment in the summer, probably resulting in the higher population density at this site relative to the tidal flat population. Mangrove forests may also mitigate the disturbance of the sediment by summer typhoons and serve as stable environments that are fundamental in the sustainability of estuarine meiobenthic fauna.  相似文献

The population dynamics of Littorina nigrolineata Gray on a moderately sheltered boulder shore was characterized by an almost constant mortality rate of post-juvenile snails both within and between years. Cohorts of post-juvenile snails had a “half life” of about 5 months. Juvenile snails had higher mortality rates than post-juveniles. Mortality rate was independent of size in post-juveniles. The population of post-juvenile snails fluctuated only about two-fold during the 3 yr of study. Maxima of population size occurred each September as a result of an autumnal pulse of recruitment into the post-juvenile size classes. These recruits originated from eggs laid in the summer of the previous year. The size-frequency structure of the population lacked well defined modes except during the spring and summer when the pulse of recruits formed a distinct mode, which later disappeared due to growth and mortality of the recruits. Oviposition continued throughout the year with a pulse in summer. Newly laid eggs took 4–7 wk to hatch. The hatchlings had a mean shell height of 0.5 mm and were estimated to take 6–9 months to grow to a shell height of about 4 mm. Growth increments over periods of 3 months. estimated from tagged cohorts of snails ranging from 3 to 16 mm, released on a stone jetty, revealed seasonal and size-specific changes in growth rate. Growth rate was significantly lower between December and March than at other times of the year. Seasonal differences in growth rate did not, however, significantly affect the yearly size increments of snails hatching in summer or winter. Growth increments did not decline linearly with increasing body size, as is assumed by the von Bertalanffy growth model, but increased to a maximum at about 6–7 mm shell height. Beyond the maximum, the growth increments decreased linearly with increasing shell height. This non-linearity caused an inflexion in the growth curve, so that the shell height. This non-linearity caused an inflexion in the and 12.4 mm by the von Bertalanffy growth curve. The deviation from the von Bertalanffy growth model was possibly due to departures from the assumptions that the assimilation rate is proportional to the square of a linear size dimension and that the metabolic rate is proportional to the cube of the same dimension. A von Bertalanffy growth curve, fitted to growth increments measured from “growth checks” on tagged snails on the boulder shore, predicted slightly faster growth rates than the von Bertalanffy growth curve fitted to increments of mean cohort size on the stone jetty. The closeness of the two curves, however, suggested that both methods of measuring growth increments were tolerably accurate.  相似文献

The Mediterranean land snail Xeropicta derbentina forms huge populations in Southern France. In order to characterize heat exposure and the induction of the 70-kD heat shock protein (Hsp70) response system during the life cycle of this snail, a selected population from the Vaucluse area, Provence, was investigated encompassing the issues of morphological life cycle parameters (shell size and colouration), the daily courses of heat exposure at different heights above the ground, of shell temperature, and that of the individual Hsp70 levels. The study covered all four seasons of the year 2011. Snails were found to be annual, reaching their final size in August. The shell colouration pattern showed high variation in juveniles (spring) with a strong tendency towards becoming uniformly white at old age in autumn. In all seasons, ambient air temperature decreased with increasing distance from the ground surface during daytime while remaining constantly low in the night. Overall, the Hsp70 level of individuals followed the ambient temperature during diurnal and seasonal variations. Correlation analysis revealed a positive association of individual shell temperature and Hsp70 level for the most part of the life cycle of the snails until late summer, whereas a negative correlation was found for aged animals indicating senescence effects on the capacity of the stress response system.  相似文献

Fish were sampled monthly in four tidal pools, for two years, on the west Portuguese coast. Species diversity of transient fish was higher than that found in previous studies, in other parts of the world. The transient fish population comprised six species: the white seabream, Diplodus sargus, sand smelt, Atherina spp., the thinlip grey mullet, Liza ramada, the Baillon's wrasse, Symphodus bailloni, the zebra seabream, Diplodus cervinus and the European pilchard, Sardina pilchardus. Abundance varied seasonally, yearly, and among pools, with peak numbers in spring and summer. The most abundant species in all pools, both as larvae and juveniles, was D. sargus. Diplodus sargus and Atherina spp. were present in most pools, from spring to autumn, while rare species were present mostly in the spring-summer period. Smaller mean sizes of larvae and juveniles were observed at the beginning of spring of 2011 (March–April) and at the end of spring/beginning of summer of 2012 (May–June). Mean size of larvae and juveniles often showed a continuous increase from spring to autumn in both years. The highest density peaks were due to the high number of post-larvae entering the pools in spring. In most pools, the overall condition (Fulton's K) of D. sargus increased throughout the year, in both years. The species richness, the high densities of early stages, and their continuous growth observed in tidal pools strongly emphasize the importance of these environments for larvae and juveniles of several transient marine fishes.  相似文献

An intertidal fish community in Trinidad Bay, Humboldt County, California, was studied between November 1968 and May 1970. The nursery function of rocky tidal pools for juveniles of subtidal fishes was indicated by peaks in indices of seasonally abundant fish species in summer. The proportion of juveniles of seasonal species in the intertidal fish community rose significantly in collections of late spring and summer, to a maximum of 35% of the individuals collected in July. Annual dominance was relatively high due to abundant populations of the tidepool sculpin, Oligocottus maculosus, but two other fish species were also encountered in tidepools every month of the year.  相似文献

An enhancement programme based on stocking 0+ year age‐class Atlantic salmon Salmo salar, conducted in the River Bush, Northern Ireland, U.K. over the period 1996–2005, was reviewed with reference to the performance and biological characteristics of wild fish. Wild ova to 0+ year fry (summer) survival was c. 8% with subsequent wild 0+ year fry‐to‐smolt survival c. 9%. Stocked unfed 0+ year juveniles gave c. 1% survival to smolt whilst fed 0+ year S. salar stocked in late summer exhibited survival at c. 5%. Stocking with unfed and fed fry contributed to increased smolt production and helped attain local management objectives between 2001 and 2005. Significant differences in biological characteristics were observed between wild and stocked‐origin fish. Wild‐smolt cohorts were dominated by 2+ year age‐class fish on the River Bush whilst smolts originating from fed fry mostly comprised younger 1+ year individuals. The mean mass of 1+ year smolts derived from stocked fed fry was significantly lower than that of wild 1+ year smolts, although these differences were not evident between older age classes. Differences in run timing between wild smolts and smolts derived from stocked fry were also apparent with the stocked‐origin fish tending to run earlier than wild fish. Although the stocking exercise was useful in terms of maximizing freshwater production, concerns over the quality of stocked‐origin recruits and the long term consequences for productivity are highlighted.  相似文献

Field experiments investigated survival and development in an arctic population of the oribatid mite Ameronothrus lineatus living on cyanobacterial mats. Mites were sorted to instar and kept in microcosms for 1 year (1997–1998). Juvenile winter survival was high (56–79%), but only about 50% of the adults survived the winter. Summer survival was high in all instars (60–80%). This gave a high survival to adulthood (13.3%). A synchronized moult was observed in July, but juvenile development during the rest of the exceptionally warm summer of 1998 varied both between and within stages, with immatures moulting not at all or up to two times. In a second set of cohorts, experiencing a shorter summer, most juveniles moulted once. Thus, A. lineatus has a flexible life cycle with the juvenile stages normally lasting 1 year, giving a larva-to-larva developmental time of 5 years, but with an increased developmental rate in warm summers. Development also seemed to depend on gender, with males developing faster than females. Adult longevity was studied in the laboratory, and most of the adults lived for 2–3 years.  相似文献

Seasonal variations in the ex vivo phagocytic function of blood cells from tench, including ingestion capacity of inert particles and its destruction (microbicide capacity) assessed by measurement of superoxide anion production, were studied. Tench were maintained under natural conditions throughout the year, and the different assays of samples taken during each season were initially performed in vitro at 22°C and the results compared. Subsequently, assays were performed at the same temperature as that of the water ponds in which the fish were kept (“seasonal temperature”: 12°C in winter, 22°C in spring and autumn and 30°C in summer) and the results compared seasonally. The results at 22°C showed that phagocytic capacity was greatest in spring and summer and lowest in winter. However, when phagocytic capacity was measured at seasonal temperature, highest values appeared in winter and lowest in summer and autumn. Nitroblue tetrazolium reduction by tench phagocytes after phagocytosing latex beads demonstrated a similar seasonal behaviour at both 22°C in each season and at seasonal temperature. The highest values appeared in summer, which suggests a better microbicide capacity in this season. The results obtained in this study suggest that for a correct interpretation of ex vivo phagocytic capacity of fish through the year it is necessary to use the same assay temperature as that of the water in which the fish is kept.  相似文献

Summary

Gonadal maturation, spawning, fecundity and timing of reproduction of the snail Cerithidea cingulata in a brackish water pond in Molo, Iloilo, Philippines, are described. Snails 4–41 mm in shell length were sampled monthly from May 1997 to May 1998; 25% were <25 mm, 67% were 20–30 mm, and 8% were >30 mm. The sexes are separate and could first be distinguished at 15 mm. Males are aphallic, have narrower shells than females of the same length, and have bright yellow-orange testes overlying the digestive gland deep inside the shell. Females have more robust shells, an ovipositor at the right side of the foot, and yellow-green ovaries overlying the digestive gland. The sex ratio was one male to two females in the pond population studied. Gonadal maturation was monitored by means of gonadosomatic index (GSI, gonad weight as a percent of visceral weight); maturation stages were based on the gonad appearance (immature, developing, mature) and histology (immature, developing, mature, redeveloping). GSI increased with snail size, and reached 16% in a 33-mm female. The smallest mature males and females were 18–19 mm, and most snails >20 mm were mature, spawning, or redeveloping. Histological sections showed all stages of gametogenesis in mature male snails. The oocyte size-frequency distributions in mature females showed mostly mature oocytes and secondary oocytes, but also oogonia and primary oocytes. GSI and the frequency of snails at different maturation stages varied over the year. Both GSI and the frequency of mature snails were highest during the summer months, April to August. Nevertheless, mature snails occurred throughout the whole year, as did mating and egg-laying. Fecundity (= number of oocytes >70 pμ) increased with size in mature females 2041 mm; an average 25-mm female produced about 1,500 oocytes and larger females produced a maximum of about 2,500 oocytes. Eggs strings laid on the pond bottom were 45–75 mm long; an average 64-mm string contained 2,000 eggs 210+20 pm in diameter. The density of eggs strings was highest (80–120/m2) during March-September. Eggs hatched after 6–7 d into planktonic veligers, which in turn settle on the pond bottom 11–12 d later as juveniles. Juveniles 2–6-mm long were most abundant in the pond during August-October.  相似文献

The life cycle of the trochid snail Diloma suavis (Philippi, 1849),was studied on an intertidal rocky shore at Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture, where two mytilid bivalves, Septifer virgatus (Wiegmann) andHormomya mutabilis (Gould), formed vertically contiguous musselbeds in the upper-middle and lower zones, respectively. At lowtide in April, the snail density increased with decreasing shoreheight and was greatest at the middle level of the H. mutabilisbed. Then, the density decreased towards the lower littoralfringe. Newly settled juveniles smaller than 2 mm in shell heightappeared abundantly in late summer and autumn within algal turfon the lower shore. As snails grew larger than 2 mm, they appearedwithin the gaps of the H. mutabilis bed and the S. virgatusbed. They increased in size monotonically towards the next summer, but rate of growth in shell height tended to be great in autumnand small in winter. Seasonal change in the density of snailsfound within the gaps of the mussel beds was remarkable during athree year period, increasing from autumn to winter and then decreasingtowards next summer. Reproduction occurred in summer, and adultsnails disappeared by September. It is thus suggested that this specieshas a one year lifespan and shows a habitat shift from algal turfto the gaps of the mussel beds with growth. Abstract

For the first time, growth of Mytilopsis leucophaeata, an important European fouling species, was investigated. By means of growth cages, individual shell growth of three cohorts, with, respectively, initial shell lengths of ≤5 mm, 10 mm and 15 mm, was monitored in the harbour of Antwerp, Belgium, during 2003 – 2004. M. leucophaeata followed an oscillatory growth pattern with a single summer growing period per year (May to August). Growth decreased during wintertime, but never ceased completely. M. leucophaeata has an average growth rate of <3 – 6 mm year?1. Temperature was found to be the main environmental factor affecting growth. The von Bertalanffy growth function was used to model growth of individuals ≤5 mm, resulting in L = 16.7 mm and K = 0.56. Based on a combination of growth of all three cohorts, the hypothetical growth of an average individual mussel could be modelled over a 5-year period, resulting in a maximum length >19 mm with a growth rate of 0.41. Its longevity (more than 5 years) and the positive effect of higher water temperatures on growth, combined with its high resistance to chlorination, provides M. leucophaeata with a high potential for severe and long-lasting biofouling  相似文献

Littorina brevicula (Philippi) is an abundant herbivorous gastropod species inhabiting intertidal zones of the north-western Pacific and has internal fertilization with planktonic eggs and a larval stage. A population of L. brevicula on a shore in Amakusa, Japan, splits into an upper and a mid shore sub-population during the mating season in winter, while all individuals occurred in the upper zone in summer. Transplant and recapture experiments have shown that snails from each sub-population have a distinct pattern of seasonal migration, suggesting that the snail population consists of two behavioral morphs. To explore the relationship between migration pattern and life history characteristics in the snails of the two migration morphs, monthly quantitative samplings and a mark-release and recapture survey were carried out for the population of L. brevicula over a 1-year period. In autumn, some of the adults migrated downward to the mid shore and formed the lower sub-population from October to April. Migration between the upper and lower sub-populations was minimal from December to February, when L. brevicula copulate actively. The shell growth rates of the snails in the lower zone were slightly higher than those in the upper zone, but the shell width of females was not a good predictor of the number of mature ova they contained. The number of mature ova was not significantly different between the females of the two migration morphs. In addition, the mortality of marked snails did not differ significantly between the upper and lower zones. Thus, no evidence was obtained to indicate a difference in the reproductive fitness between the two migration morphs.  相似文献

After excision of shell from Pomacea canaliculata, survival rates, repair process, haemocyte response, and calcium content were observed and quantified for three weeks. The following experimental treatments were used: black-colored individuals with large (BL-group) or small (BS-group) shell heights, yellow-colored individuals with large (YL-group) or small (YS-group) shell heights. The survival rates in BL-, YL-, BS-, and YS-groups after making partial excisions of snail shells were, respectively, 93.59, 94.87, 92.31, and 96.15%. Freshly regenerated shell could be seen at 1 day among the four groups after induction of shell regeneration. Regeneration shell filled the wound after 5–10 days. The area of regenerated shell in yellow-colored individuals was larger than that of black-colored individuals, but the thickness of regenerated shell was not significantly different. Multiple (four times) inductions of shell regeneration significantly enhanced the thickness of newly formed shells. Two types of circulating haemocytes (hyalinocytes and granulocytes) were identified under light microscopy based on Wright’s staining. Artificial induction of shell regeneration rendered a significant increase in the number of total circulating haemocytes which was followed by a decrease to pre-wounding levels. This peak value of total circulating haemocytes was 2.86, 2.43, 1.69, and 1.71-fold higher than pre-wounding levels in group BL, YL, BS, and YS, respectively. The number of total circulating haemocytes in yellow-colored individuals was significantly higher than in black-colored. Calcium concentrations in the mantles of snails are favorable for calcium nucleation. It is postulated that calcium content increased in the mantle increase at the start of the experiment and then returned to pre-wounding levels at the end of the experiment. This study shows that apple snails have effective shell regeneration abilities and that haemocytes and calcium transportation appear to play an important role in shell growth and regeneration.  相似文献

The population dynamics of Rhipicephalus microplus (Ixodida: Ixodidae) in northwest Argentina was analysed to support the design of strategic methods for its control. Both parasitic and non‐parasitic phases were studied. The seasonal activity of R. microplus in its parasitic phase was characterized by three peaks in abundance: the first in mid–late spring; the second in summer, and the third in autumn. The non‐parasitic phase of R. microplus was characterized by a long total non‐parasitic period observed after exposures of females from mid‐summer to early autumn, a short total non‐parasitic period observed after exposures of females from late winter to late spring, a short period of larval longevity in early and mid‐summer, and no hatch of the eggs produced by females exposed in mid‐ and late autumn and winter. Treatments of cattle administered during the period from late winter to late spring will act on small cohorts of R. microplus, preventing the emergence of larger generations in summer and autumn. A 17‐week spelling period starting in late spring and early summer will be necessary to achieve optimal control of R. microplus free‐living larvae. If spelling begins in mid‐ or late summer or in autumn, the required period will be 26–27 weeks.  相似文献

Benthic foraminiferal assemblages in subrecent deposits are commonly used to reconstruct past sea level. Interpretations are generally made by comparison with either modern dead or total (live plus dead) assemblages. In both cases there will have been post-mortem changes that have differentially affected preservation. It is therefore important to establish the primary ecological controls by analysis of the living assemblages. We have determined the spatial and temporal variability of intertidal benthic foraminifera in the surface (0–1 cm) sediments from a time series survey of 31 sampling stations at Cowpen Marsh, for a period of 12 months. We counted 112,067 live foraminifera assigned to 28 species. The fauna was dominated by two agglutinated species (Jadammina macrescens and Trochammina inflata) on the high and middle marshes, and three calcareous species (Elphidium williamsoni, Haynesina germanica and Quinqueloculina spp.) on the low marsh and tidal flat. The standing crop of the whole intertidal zone, including the high, middle, low marsh and tidal flat habitats, and the individual species varied both temporally and spatially. The standing crop of the intertidal zone as a whole was greatest in the summer months and showed a positive correlation with elevation. The standing crops of the high and middle marshes showed similar temporal variation with peaks in summer and autumn and a trough in winter. The low marsh showed numerous peaks and troughs of standing crop during the year, whereas the tidal flat showed a single peak in summer. The standing crops of Jadammina macrescens and Trochammina inflata on the high and middle marshes peaked from April to May and August to October with troughs in winter. These agglutinated species showed a strong correlation with elevation. Haynesina germanica peaked in May to August and November to January on the low marsh, whereas on the tidal flat there was a single peak in July. The standing crops of E. williamsoni on the low marsh and tidal flat were relatively high in June and May, and July, respectively. Quinqueloculina spp. peaked in May to July on the low marsh and July on the tidal flat. The species was also found in the middle marsh from July to May and high marsh from September to November. Haynesina germanica showed a strong negative correlation with elevation, whereas the other two dominant calcareous species demonstrated weak negative correlations with both elevation and salinity.Reconstructing former sea level depends primarily on the recognition of high and middle marsh assemblages and in this study these are shown to be strongly controlled by elevation rather than salinity. Caution may be needed in interpreting low marsh and tidal flat data as salinity plays a more important role here.  相似文献

The occurrence of eggs, pelagic larvae and juveniles, and settled juveniles of the dragonetRepomucenus valenciennei in Tokyo Bay, Japan, were investigated by plankton net and bottom trawl surveys between September 1990 and September 1991. Eggs, and pelagic larvae and juveniles appeared from April to November (spring to autumn), peaking in both spring and autumn. From the temporal pattern of egg and pelagic fish occurrence, and pelagic duration reported elsewhere (ca. one month), settlement could be predicted as occurring from late spring to autumn. However, settled juveniles appeared from August to December, with an abrupt peak in November. Aging from daily increments in the otoliths of settled recruits in 1990 indicated that the latter comprised individuals which had hatched between mid-September and early November (i.e. autumn cohort), implying that individuals which had hatched in spring to summer (April to August) were not recruited. Benthic hypoxia occurs widely in Tokyo Bay, from June to October each year, particularly in the northern part, which is the main nursery area ofR. valenciennei. The timing of dissolved oxygen recovery, and appearance of settled fish coincided closely (i.e. November), indicating that summer hypoxic conditions prevented the settlement of the spring cohort and hence recruitment to the population.  相似文献

Cocoon morphology (shape, size, colour and ornamentation), hatching, and seasonal dynamics of cocoon and juveniles of D. calebi have been studied in an Indian pasture site. The average live weight of cocoon is 15.17 mg, length/diameter 0.94, and moisture content 72.5 g%. Just-hatched juveniles weigh on an average 10.4 mg, and are 10.5–17.5 mm in length. The incubation period lasts 56.33 ± 2 days during November—December in laboratory cultures (25°C, and moisture 15 g%). A maximum of 64.0 live cocoons/m2 with a live weight of 0.971 g/m2 were deposited during October—November 1977, but very few during summer months. A surface-living species, D. calebi shows single peak emergence pattern in December—January. It is estimated that 78 cocoons (live and dead)/m2 (780,000/hectare), were produced in the field by D. calebi population in a year (1976–77). Thus the total cocoon production is 11.83 kg/hectare/year. It is estimated that 3 cocoons/individual/year are produced by D. calebi in field conditions.  相似文献

We evaluated the effects of nutrient addition on interactions between the benthic microalgal community and a dominant herbivorous gastropod, Cerithidea californica (California horn snail), on tidal flats in Mugu Lagoon, southern California, USA. We crossed snail and nutrient (N and P) addition treatments in enclosures on two tidal flats varying from 71 to 92% sand content in a temporally replicated experiment (summer 2000, fall 2000, spring 2001). Diatom biomass increased slightly (~30%) in response to nutrient treatments but was not affected by snails. Blooms of cyanobacteria (up to 200%) and purple sulfur bacteria (up to 400%) occurred in response to nutrient enrichment, particularly in the sandier site, but only cyanobacterial biomass decreased in response to snail grazing. Snail mortality was 2–5 times higher in response to nutrient addition, especially in the sandier site, corresponding to a relative increase in cyanobacterial biomass. Nutrient-related snail mortality occurred only in the spring and summer, when the snails were most actively feeding on the microalgal community. Inactive snails in the fall showed no response to nutrient-induced cyanobacterial growths. This study demonstrated strongly negative upward cascading effects of nutrient enrichment through the food chain. The strength of this upward cascade was closely linked to sediment type and microalgal community composition.  相似文献

Exposed rocky shores in Hong Kong are dominated at mid-tidal levels by a broad band of the mytilid Septifer virgatus. A 48-month study of a population inhabiting the shores at Cape d'Aguilar has been undertaken. The species matures at a shell length of ≅ 15 mm, about one year after recruitment. Septifer virgatus is dioecious with a slight, but insignificant, female bias overall. There is, however, a significant juvenile male bias. Generally, most adult individuals remain mature year round, although spawning is limited to two periods in spring (February to March) and autumn (September to December) with subsequent recruitment into the adult population. The species lives for ≅ 4–5 years, although older individuals, possibly up to 12 years of age and with a maximum recorded shell length of 65 mm, occur as solitary individuals lower down the shore. Mortality in winter mainly affects newly recruited juveniles. A heavy mortality of adults in summer is thought to be related to high rock temperatures at midday (≅ 50°C), concurrent with low spring tides.
The life-history tactics and sexual strategy of Septifer virgatus can be correlated with seasonal changes in hydrography. There are a number of similarities with other local mytilids, notably the dioecious condition and the bimodal pattern of spawning and recruitment. Such similarities are discussed in relation to the habitats occupied by these species.  相似文献
