The development of high‐performance oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts derived from non‐Pt group metals (non‐PGMs) is urgent for the wide applications of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). In this work, a facile and cost‐efficient supramolecular route is developed for making non‐PGM ORR catalyst with atomically dispersed Fe‐Nx/C sites through pyrolyzing the metal‐organic polymer coordinative hydrogel formed between Fe3+ and α‐L‐guluronate blocks of sodium alginate (SA). High‐angle annular dark field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF‐STEM) and X‐ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) verify that Fe atoms achieve atomic‐level dispersion on the obtained SA‐Fe‐N nanosheets and a possible fourfold coordination with N atoms. The best‐performing SA‐Fe‐N catalyst exhibits excellent ORR activity with half‐wave potential (E1/2) of 0.812 and 0.910 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) in 0.5 m H2SO4 and 0.1 m KOH, respectively, along with respectable durability. Such performance surpasses that of most reported non‐PGM ORR catalysts. Density functional theory calculations suggest that the relieved passivation effect of OH* on Fe‐N4/C structure leads to its superior ORR activity to Pt/C in alkaline solution. The work demonstrates a novel strategy for developing high‐performance non‐PGM ORR electrocatalysts with atomically dispersed and stable M‐Nx coordination sites in both acidic and alkaline media.  相似文献

To improve the utilization efficiency of precious metals, metal‐supported materials provide a direction for fabricating highly active and stable heterogeneous catalysts. Herein, carbon cloth (CC)‐supported Earth‐abundant CoS2 nanosheet arrays (CoS2/CC) are presented as ideal substrates for ultrafine Pt deposition (Pt‐CoS2/CC) to achieve remarkable performance toward the hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions (HER/OER) in alkaline solutions. Notably, the Pt‐CoS2/CC hybrid delivers an overpotential of 24 mV at 10 mA cm?2 and a mass activity of 3.89 A Ptmg?1, which is 4.7 times higher than that of commercial Pt/C, at an overpotential of 130 mV for catalyzing the HER. An alkali‐electrolyzer using Pt‐CoS2/CC as a bifunctional electrode enables a water‐splitting current density of 10 mA cm?2 at a low voltage of 1.55 V and can sustain for more than 20 h, which is superior to that of the state‐of‐the‐art Pt/C+RuO2 catalyst. Further experimental and theoretical simulation studies demonstrate that strong electronic interaction between Pt and CoS2 synergistically optimize hydrogen adsorption/desorption behaviors and facilitate the in situ generation of OER active species, enhancing the overall water‐splitting performance. This work highlights the regulation of interfacial and electronic synergy in pursuit of highly efficient and durable supported catalysts for hydrogen and oxygen electrocatalytic applications.  相似文献

A metalorganic gaseous doping approach for constructing nitrogen‐doped carbon polyhedron catalysts embedded with single Fe atoms is reported. The resulting catalysts are characterized using scanning transmission electron microscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X‐ray absorption spectroscopy; for the optimal sample, calculated densities of Fe–Nx sites and active N sites reach 1.75812 × 1013 and 1.93693 × 1014 sites cm‐2, respectively. Its oxygen reduction reaction half‐wave potential (0.864 V) is 50 mV higher than that of 20 wt% Pt/C catalyst in an alkaline medium and comparable to the latter (0.78 V vs 0.84 V) in an acidic medium, along with outstanding durability. More importantly, when used as a hydrogen–oxygen polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) cathode catalyst with a catalyst loading as low as 1 mg cm‐2 (compared with a conventional loading of 4 mg cm‐2), it exhibits a current density of 1100 mA cm‐2 at 0.6 V and 637 mA cm‐2 at 0.7 V, with a power density of 775 mW cm‐2, or 0.775 kW g–1 of catalyst. In a hydrogen–air PEMFC, current density reaches 650 mA cm‐2 at 0.6 V and 350 mA cm‐2 at 0.7 V, and the maximum power density is 463 mW cm‐2, which makes it a promising candidate for cathode catalyst toward high‐performance PEMFCs.  相似文献

Iron–nitrogen–carbon (Fe–N–C) catalysts are considered as the most promising nonprecious metal catalysts for oxygen reduction reactions (ORRs). Their synthesis generally involves complex pyrolysis reactions at high temperature, making it difficult to optimize their composition, pore structure, and active sites. This study reports a simple synthesis strategy by reacting preformed nitrogen‐doped carbon scaffolds with iron pentacarbonyl, a liquid precursor that can effectively form active sites with the nitrogen sites, enabling more effective control of the catalyst. The resultant catalyst possesses a well‐defined mesoporous structure, a high surface area, and optimized active sites. The catalysts exhibit high ORR activity comparable to that of Pt/C catalyst (40% Pt loading) in alkaline media, with excellent stability and methanol tolerance. The synthetic strategy can be extended to synthesize other metal–N–C catalysts.  相似文献

A novel hybrid of small core@shell structured CoSx@Cu2MoS4 uniformly hybridizing with a molybdenum dichalcogenide/N,S‐codoped graphene hetero‐network (CoSx@Cu2MoS4‐MoS2/NSG) is prepared by a facile route. It shows excellent performance toward the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline medium. The hybrid exhibits rapid kinetics for ORR with high electron transfer number of ≈3.97 and exciting durability superior to commercial Pt/C. It also demonstrates great potential with remarkable stability for HER and OER, requiring low overpotential of 118.1 and 351.4 mV, respectively, to reach a current density of 10 mA cm?2. An electrolyzer based on CoSx@Cu2MoS4‐MoS2/NSG produces low cell voltage of 1.60 V and long‐term stability, surpassing a device of Pt/C + RuO2/C. In addition, a Zn‐air battery using cathodic CoSx@Cu2MoS4‐MoS2/NSG catalyst delivers a high cell voltage of ≈1.44 V and a power density of 40 mW cm?2 at 58 mA cm?2, better than the state‐of‐the‐art Pt/C catalyst. These achievements are due to the rational combination of highly active core@shell CoSx@Cu2MoS4 with large‐area and high‐porosity MoS2/NSG to produce unique physicochemical properties with multi‐integrated active centers and synergistic effects. The outperformances of such catalyst suggest an advanced candidate for multielectrocatalysis applications in metal‐air batteries and hydrogen production.  相似文献

Efficient bifunctional oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts are of great importance for rechargeable metal–air batteries. Herein, FeNx/C catalysts are synthesized by pyrolysis of thiourea and agarose containing α‐Fe2O3 nanoplate as Fe precursor, where α‐Fe2O3 nanoplate can prevent the aggregation of carbon sheets to effectively improve the specific surface area during the carbonization process. The FeNx/C‐700‐20 catalyst displays excellent catalytic performance for both ORR and OER activity in alkaline conditions with more positive onset potential (1.1 V vs the reversible hydrogen electrode) and half‐wave potential, higher stability, and stronger methanol tolerance in alkaline solution, which are all superior to that of the commercial Pt/C catalyst. In this study, the detailed analyses demonstrate that the coexistence of Fe‐based species and high content of Fe‐Nx both play an important role for the catalytic activity. Furthermore, FeNx/C‐700‐20 as cathode catalyst in Zn–air battery possesses higher charge–discharge stability and power density compared with that of commercial Pt/C catalyst, displaying great potential in practical implementation of for the rechargeable energy devices.  相似文献

The development of dual catalysts with high efficiency toward oxygen reduction and evolution reactions (ORR and OER) in acidic media is a significant challenge. Here an active and durable dual catalyst based upon cubic Pt39Ir10Pd11 nanocages with an average edge length of 12.3 nm, porous walls as thin as 1.0 nm, and well‐defined {100} facets is reported. The trimetallic nanocages perform better than all the reported dual catalysts in acidic media, with a low ORR‐OER overpotential gap of only 704 mV at a Pt‐Ir‐Pd loading of 16.8 µgPt+Ir+Pd cm?2geo. For ORR at 0.9 V, when benchmarked against the commercial Pt/C and Pt‐Pd nanocages, the trimetallic nanocages exhibit an enhanced mass activity of 0.52 A mg?1Pt+Ir+Pd (about four and two times as high as those of the Pt/C and Pt‐Pd nanocages) and much improved durability. For OER, the trimetallic nanocages show a remarkable mass activity of 0.20 A mg?1Pt+Ir at 1.53 V, which is 16.7 and 4.3 fold relative to those of the Pt/C and Pt‐Pd nanocages, respectively. These improvements can be ascribed to the highly open structure of the nanocages, and the possible electronic coupling between Ir and Pt atoms in the lattice.  相似文献

Rational design and construction of a multifunctional electrocatalyst featuring with high efficiency and low cost is fundamentally important to realize new energy technologies. Herein, a trifunctional electrocatalyst composed of FePx nanoparticles and Fe–N–C moiety supported on the N‐, P‐codoped carbon (NPC) is masterly synthesized by a facile one‐pot pyrolysis of the mixture of tannic acid, ferrous chloride, and sodium hydrogen phosphate. The synergy of each component in the FePx/Fe–N–C/NPC catalyst renders high catalytic activities and excellent durability toward both oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The electrocatalytic performance and practicability of the robust FePx/Fe–N–C/NPC catalyst are further investigated under the practical operation conditions. Particularly, the overall water splitting cell assembled by the FePx/Fe–N–C/NPC catalyst only requires a voltage of 1.58 V to output the benchmark current density of 10 mA cm?2, which is superior to that of IrO2–Pt/C‐based cell. Moreover, the FePx/Fe–N–C/NPC‐based zinc–air batteries deliver high round‐trip efficiency and remarkable cycling stability, much better than that of Pt/C–IrO2 pair‐based batteries. This work offers a new strategy to design and synthesize highly effective multifunctional electrocatalysts using cheaper tannic acid derived carbon as support applied in electrochemical energy devices.  相似文献

Single atomic Pt catalyst can offer efficient utilization of the expensive platinum and provide unique selectivity because it lacks ensemble sites. However, designing such a catalyst with high Pt loading and good durability is very challenging. Here, single atomic Pt catalyst supported on antimony‐doped tin oxide (Pt1/ATO) is synthesized by conventional incipient wetness impregnation, with up to 8 wt% Pt. The single atomic Pt structure is confirmed by high‐angle annular dark field scanning tunneling electron microscopy images and extended X‐ray absorption fine structure analysis results. Density functional theory calculations show that replacing Sb sites with Pt atoms in the bulk phase or at the surface of SbSn or ATO is energetically favorable. The Pt1/ATO shows superior activity and durability for formic acid oxidation reaction, compared to a commercial Pt/C catalyst. The single atomic Pt structure is retained even after a harsh durability test, which is performed by repeating cyclic voltammetry in the range of 0.05–1.4 V for 1800 cycles. A full cell is fabricated for direct formic acid fuel cell using the Pt1/ATO as an anode catalyst, and an order of magnitude higher cell power is obtained compared to the Pt/C.  相似文献

Searching for highly efficient and durable electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) that function effectively at all pHs is of great interest to the scientific community, however it is still a grand challenge, because the HER kinetics of Pt in alkaline solutions are approximately two to three orders of magnitude lower than that in acidic solution. Herein, a new class of wrinkled, ultrathin Rh2P nanosheets for enhancing HER catalysis at all pHs is reported. They exhibit a small overpotential of 18.3 mV at 10 mA cm?2, low Tafel slope of 61.5 mV dec?1, and good durability in alkaline media, much better than the commercial Pt/C catalyst. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the active open‐shell effect from the P‐3p band not only promotes Rh‐4d for increased proton–electron charge exchange but also provides excellent p–p overlapping to locate the O‐related species as distributary center, which can benefit the HER process in alkaline media. It is also demonstrated that the present wrinkled, ultrathin Rh2P nanosheets are highly efficient and durable electrocatalysts toward HER in both acid and neutral electrolytes. The present work opens a new material design for ultrathin 2D metal phosphide nanostructures for the purpose of boosting HER performance at all pHs.  相似文献

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are a family of high‐profile layer materials with tunable metal species and interlayer spacing, and herein the LDHs are first investigated as bifunctional electrocatalysts. It is found that trinary LDH containing nickel, cobalt, and iron (NiCoFe‐LDH) shows a reasonable bifunctional performance, while exploiting a preoxidation treatment can significantly enhance both oxygen reduction reaction and oxygen evolution reaction activity. This phenomenon is attributed to the partial conversion of Co2+ to Co3+ state in the preoxidation step, which stimulates the charge transfer to the catalyst surface. The practical application of the optimized material is demonstrated with a small potential hysteresis (800 mV for a reversible current density of 20 mA cm?2) as well as a high stability, exceeding the performances of noble metal catalysts (commercial Pt/C and Ir/C). The combination of the electrochemical metrics and the facile and cost‐effective synthesis endows the trinary LDH as a promising bifunctional catalyst for a variety of applications, such as next‐generation regenerative fuel cells or metal–air batteries.  相似文献

A simple method was developed to prepare ultra‐low Pt loading membrane electrode assembly (MEA) using vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VACNTs) as highly ordered catalyst support for PEM fuel cells application. In the method, VACNTs were directly grown on the cheap household aluminum foil by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), using Fe/Co bimetallic catalyst. By depositing a Pt thin layer on VACNTs/Al and subsequent hot pressing, Pt/VACNTs can be 100% transferred from Al foil onto polymer electrolyte membrane for the fabrication of MEA. The whole transfer process does not need any chemical removal and destroy membrane. The PEM fuel cell with the MEA fabricated using this method showed an excellent performance with ultra‐low Pt loading down to 35 μg cm?2 which was comparable to that of the commercial Pt catalyst on carbon powder with 400 μg cm?2. To the best of our knowledge, for the first time, we identified that it is possible to substantially reduce the Pt loading one order by application of order‐structured electrode based on VACNTs as Pt catalysts support, compared with the traditional random electrode at a comparable performance through experimental and mathematical methods.  相似文献

Microbial fuel cell (MFC) can generate electricity from organic substances based on anodic electrochemically active microorganisms and cathodic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), thus exhibiting promising potential for harvesting electric energy from organic wastewater. The ORR performance is crucial to both power production efficiency and overall cost of MFC. A new type of metal‐organic‐framework‐derived electrocatalysts containing cobalt and nitrogen‐doped carbon (CoNC) is developed, which is effective to enhance activity, selectivity, and stability toward four‐electron ORR in pH‐neutral electrolyte. When glucose is used as the substrate, the maximum power density of 1665 mW m?2 is achieved for the optimized CoNC pyrolyzed at 900 °C, which is 39.8% higher than that of 1191 mW m?2 for commercial Pt/C catalyst in the single‐chamber MFC. The improved performance of CoNC catalyst can be attributed to large surface area, microporous nature, and the involvement of nitrogen‐coordinated cobalt species. These properties enable the efficient ORR by increasing the active sites and enhancing mass transfer of oxygen and protons at “water‐flooding” three‐phase boundary where ORR occurs. This work provides a proof‐of‐concept demonstration of a noble‐metal‐free high‐efficiency and cost‐effective ORR electrocatalyst for effective recovery of electricity from biomass materials and organic wastewater in MFC.  相似文献

Serum amyloid A (SAA) is a multifunctional acute‐phase protein whose concentration in serum increases markedly following a number of chronic inflammatory and neoplastic diseases. Prolonged high SAA level may give rise to reactive systemic amyloid A (AA) amyloidosis, where the N‐terminal segment of SAA is deposited as amyloid fibrils. Besides, recently, well‐documented association of SAA with high‐density lipoprotein or glycosaminoglycans, in particular heparin/heparin sulfate (HS), and specific interaction between SAA and human cystatin C (hCC), the ubiquitous inhibitor of cysteine proteases, was proved. Using a combination of selective proteolytic excision and high‐resolution mass spectrometry, a hCC binding site in the SAA sequence was determined as SAA(86–104). The role of this SAA C‐terminal fragment as a ligand‐binding locus is still not clear. It was postulated important in native SAA folding and in pathogenesis of AA amyloidosis. In the search of conformational details of this SAA fragment, we did its structure and affinity studies, including its selected double/triple Pro→Ala variants. Our results clearly show that the SAA(86–104) 19‐peptide has rather unordered structure with bends in its C‐terminal part, which is consistent with the previous results relating to the whole protein. The results of affinity chromatography, fluorescent ELISA‐like test, CD and NMR studies point to an importance of proline residues on structure of SAA(86–104). Conformational details of SAA fragment, responsible for hCC binding, may help to understand the objective of hCC–SAA complex formation and its importance for pathogenesis of reactive amyloid A amyloidosis. Carbon dots have been recognized as one of the most promising candidates for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in alkaline media. However, the desired ORR performance in metal–air batteries is often limited by the moderate electrocatalytic activity and the lack of a method to realize good dispersion. To address these issues, herein a biomass‐deriving method is reported to achieve the in situ phosphorus doping (P‐doping) of carbon dots and their simultaneous decoration onto graphene matrix. The resultant product, namely P‐doped carbon dot/graphene (P‐CD/G) nanocomposites, can reach an ultrahigh P‐doping level for carbon nanomaterials. The P‐CD/G nanocomposites are found to exhibit excellent ORR activity, which is highly comparable to the commercial Pt/C catalysts. When used as the cathode materials for a primary liquid Al–air battery, the device shows an impressive power density of 157.3 mW cm?2 (comparing to 151.5 mW cm?2 of a similar Pt/C battery). Finally, an all‐solid‐state flexible Al–air battery is designed and fabricated based on our new nanocomposites. The device exhibits a stable discharge voltage of ≈1.2 V upon different bending states. This study introduces a unique biomass‐derived material system to replace the noble metal catalysts for future portable and wearable electronic devices.  相似文献

The search for Pt‐free electrocatalysts exceeding pH‐universal hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activities when compared to the state‐of‐the‐art commercial Pt/C is highly desirable for the development of renewable energy conversion systems but still remains a huge challenge. Here a colloidal synthesis of monodisperse Rh2P nanoparticles with an average size of 2.8 nm and their superior catalytic activities for pH‐universal HER are reported. Significantly, the Rh2P catalyst displays remarkable HER performance with overpotentials of 14, 30, and 38 mV to achieve 10 mA cm?2 in 0.5 m H2SO4, 1.0 m KOH, and 1.0 m phosphate‐buffered saline, respectively, exceeding almost all the documented electrocatalysts, including the commercial 20 wt% Pt/C. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the introduction of P into Rh can weaken the H adsorption strength of Rh2P to nearly zero, beneficial for boosting HER performance.  相似文献

A promising bifunctional electrocatalyst is reported for air cathodes consisting of Ni3Fe nanoparticles embedded in porous nitrogen‐doped carbon sheets (Ni3Fe/N‐C sheets) by a facile and effective pyrolysis‐based route with sodium chloride (NaCl) crystals as a template. The Ni3Fe/N‐C sheets show excellent catalytic activity, selectivity, and durability toward both the oxygen‐reduction and oxygen‐evolution reactions (ORR and OER). They are shown to provide a superior, low‐cost cathode for a rechargeable Zn‐air battery. At a discharge–charge current density of 10 mA cm?2, the Ni3Fe/N‐C sheets enable a Zn–air battery to cycle steadily up to 420 h with only a small increase in the round‐trip overpotential, outperforming the more costly Pt/C + IrO2 mixture catalyst (160 h). With the simplicity and scalability of the synthetic approach and its remarkable bifunctional electrocatalytic performance, the Ni3Fe/N‐C sheets offer a promising rechargeable air cathode operating at room temperature in an alkaline electrolyte.  相似文献

Platinum (Pt)‐based catalysts with high Pt utilization efficiency for efficient H2 evolution are attracting extensive attention to meet the issues of energy exhaustion and environmental pollution. Herein, a one‐step electrochemical method is demonstrated to construct ultrafine heterostructure Pt2W/WO3 on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) by injecting multielectrons into the Preyssler anion [NaP5W30O110]14? to codeposit with anodic deliquescent Pt cations. The resulting Pt2W/WO3/RGO shows much higher performance than that of commercial Pt catalysts for large‐current‐density H2 evolution, which can deliver a large current density of 500 mA cm?2 with an overpotential of only 394 mV, much lower than that of 20% Pt/C (578 mV). Comparisons with control experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations both suggest that the much enhanced activity can be mainly attributed to the synergistic cooperation of different components to drive fast and continuous hydrogen desorption on Pt2W/WO3/RGO, while it could not run normally for 20% Pt/C under similar conditions due to the formation of huge bubbles on the electrode surface. The effective integration of high catalytic activity and hydrogen desorption ability into a single material can yield advanced materials for large‐current‐density H2 evolution with remarkable stability.  相似文献

The development of efficient hydrogen evolution reaction electrocatalysts is critical to the realization of clean hydrogen fuel production, while the sluggish kinetics of the Volmer‐step substantially restricts the catalyst performances in alkali electrolyzers, even for noble metal catalysts such as Pt. Here, a Pt‐decorated Ni3N nanosheet electrocatalyst is developed to achieve a top performance of hydrogen evolution in alkaline conditions. Possessing a high metallic conductivity and an atomic‐thin semiconducting hydroxide surface, the Ni3N nanosheets serve as not only an efficient electron pathway without the hindrance of Schottky barriers, but also provide abundant active sites for water dissociation and generation of hydrogen intermediates, which are further adsorbed on the Pt surface to recombine to H2. The Pt‐decorated Ni3N nanosheet catalyst exhibits a hydrogen evolution current density of 200 mA cm?2 at an overpotential of 160 mV versus reversible hydrogen electrode, a Tafel slope of ≈36.5 mV dec?1, and excellent stability of 82.5% current retention after 24 h of operation. Moreover, a hybrid cell consisting of a Pt‐decorated Ni3N nanosheet cathode and a Li‐metal anode is assembled to achieve simultaneous hydrogen evolution and electricity generation, exhibiting >60 h long‐term hydrogen evolution reaction stability and an output voltage ranging from 1.3 to 2.2 V.  相似文献

A conventional water electrolyzer consists of two electrodes, each of which is embedded with a costly and rare electrocatalyst, typically IrO2/C for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and Pt/C for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), respectively. HER and OER electrocatalysts usually require very different pH values to keep them stable and active. Thus, the development of earth‐abundant nonprecious metal catalysts for both HER and OER is of great importance to practical applications. This work reports the results of integrated water electrolysis using the hybrids of electrospun La0.5(Ba0.4Sr0.4Ca0.2)0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3–δ (L‐0.5) perovskite nanorods attached to reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets as bifunctional electrodes. Via rationalizing the composition and morphology of L‐0.5/rGO nanohybrids, excellent catalytic performance and stability toward OER and HER are achieved in alkaline media. The operating voltage of integrated L‐0.5/rGO electrolyzer is tested to be 1.76 V at 50 mA cm–2, which is close to that of the commercially available IrO2/C‐Pt/C couple (1.76 V @ 50 mA cm–2). Such a bifunctional electrocatalyst could be extended toward practical electrolysis use with low expanse and high efficiency. More generally, the protocol described here broadens our horizons in terms of the designs and the diverse functionalities of catalysts for use in various applications.  相似文献
