Aqueous batteries are facing big challenges in the context of low working voltages and energy density, which are dictated by the narrow electrochemical window of aqueous electrolytes and low specific capacities of traditional intercalation‐type electrodes, even though they usually represent high safety, low cost, and simple maintenance. For the first time, this work demonstrates a record high‐energy‐density (1503 Wh kg?1 calculated from the cathode active material) aqueous battery system that derives from a novel electrolyte design to expand the electrochemical window of electrolyte to 3 V and two high‐specific‐capacity electrode reactions. An acid‐alkaline dual electrolyte separated by an ion‐selective membrane enables two dissolution/deposition electrode redox reactions of MnO2/Mn2+ and Zn/Zn(OH)42? with theoretical specific capacities of 616 and 820 mAh g?1, respectively. The newly proposed Zn–Mn2+ aqueous battery shows a high Coulombic efficiency of 98.4% and cycling stability of 97.5% of discharge capacity retention for 1500 cycles. Furthermore, in the flow battery based on Zn–Mn2+ pairs, more excellent stability of 99.5% of discharge capacity retention for 6000 cycles is achieved due to greatly improved reversibility of the Zn anode. This work provides a new path for the development of novel aqueous batteries with high voltage and energy density.  相似文献

Rechargeable aqueous Zn/MnO2 batteries are very attractive large‐scale energy storage technologies, but still suffer from limited cycle life and low capacity. Here the novel adoption of a near‐neutral acetate‐based electrolyte (pH ≈ 6) is presented to promote the two‐electron Mn4+/Mn2+ redox reaction and simultaneously enable a stable Zn anode. The acetate anion triggers a highly reversible MnO2/Mn2+ reaction, which ensures high capacity and avoids the issue of structural collapse of MnO2. Meanwhile, the anode‐friendly electrolyte enables a dendrite‐free Zn anode with outstanding stability and high plating/stripping Coulombic efficiency (99.8%). Hence, a high capacity of 556 mA h g?1, a lifetime of 4000 cycles without decay, and excellent rate capability up to 70 mA cm?2 are demonstated in this new near‐neutral aqueous Zn/MnO2 battery by simply manipulating the salt anion in the electrolyte. The acetate anion not only modifies the surface properties of MnO2 cathode but also creates a highly compatible environment for the Zn anode. This work provides a new opportunity for developing high‐performance Zn/MnO2 and other aqueous batteries based on the salt anion chemistry.  相似文献

A challenge still remains to develop high‐performance and cost‐effective air electrode for Li‐O2 batteries with high capacity, enhanced rate capability and long cycle life (100 times or above) despite recent advances in this field. In this work, a new design of binder‐free air electrode composed of three‐dimensional (3D) graphene (G) and flower‐like δ‐MnO2 (3D‐G‐MnO2) has been proposed. In this design, graphene and δ‐MnO2 grow directly on the skeleton of Ni foam that inherits the interconnected 3D scaffold of Ni foam. Li‐O2 batteries with 3D‐G‐MnO2 electrode can yield a high discharge capacity of 3660 mAh g?1 at 0.083 mA cm?2. The battery can sustain 132 cycles at a capacity of 492 mAh g?1 (1000 mAh gcarbon ?1) with low overpotentials under a high current density of 0.333 mA cm?2. A high average energy density of 1350 Wh Kg?1 is maintained over 110 cycles at this high current density. The excellent catalytic activity of 3D‐G‐MnO2 makes it an attractive air electrode for high‐performance Li‐O2 batteries.  相似文献

Rechargeable aqueous zinc‐ion batteries (ZIBs) have been emerging as potential large‐scale energy storage devices due to their high energy density, low cost, high safety, and environmental friendliness. However, the commonly used cathode materials in ZIBs exhibit poor electrochemical performance, such as significant capacity fading during long‐term cycling and poor performance at high current rates, which significantly hinder the further development of ZIBs. Herein, a new and highly reversible Mn‐based cathode material with porous framework and N‐doping (MnOx@N‐C) is prepared through a metal–organic framework template strategy. Benefiting from the unique porous structure, conductive carbon network, and the synergetic effect of Zn2+ and Mn2+ in electrolyte, the MnOx@N‐C shows excellent cycling stability, good rate performance, and high reversibility for aqueous ZIBs. Specifically, it exhibits high capacity of 305 mAh g?1 after 600 cycles at 500 mA g?1 and maintains achievable capacity of 100 mAh g?1 at a quite high rate of 2000 mA g?1 with long‐term cycling of up to 1600 cycles, which are superior to most reported ZIB cathode materials. Furthermore, insight into the Zn‐storage mechanism in MnOx@N‐C is systematically studied and discussed via multiple analytical methods. This study opens new opportunities for designing low‐cost and high‐performance rechargeable aqueous ZIBs.  相似文献

A major limitation of MnO2 in aqueous Zn/MnO2 ion battery applications is the poor utilization of its electrochemical active surface area. Herein, it is shown that by generating oxygen vacancies (VO) in the MnO2 lattice, Gibbs free energy of Zn2+ adsorption in the vicinity of VO can be reduced to thermoneutral value (≈0.05 eV). This suggests that Zn2+ adsorption/desorption process on oxygen‐deficient MnO2 is more reversible as compared to pristine MnO2. In addition, because of the fact that fewer electrons are needed for Zn? O bonding in oxygen‐deficient MnO2, more valence electrons can be contributed into the delocalized electron cloud of the material, which aids in enhancing the attainable capacity. As a result, the stable Zn/oxygen‐deficient MnO2 battery is able to deliver one of the highest capacities of 345 mAh g?1 reported for a birnessite MnO2 system. This excellent electrochemical performance suggests that generating oxygen vacancies in MnO2 may aid in the future development of advanced cathodes for aqueous Zn ion batteries.  相似文献

Herein, a two‐species redox reaction of Co(II)/Co(III) and Fe(II)/Fe(III) incorporated in cobalt hexacyanoferrate (CoFe(CN)6) is proposed as a breakthrough to achieve jointly high‐capacity and high‐voltage aqueous Zn‐ion battery. The Zn/CoFe(CN)6 battery provides a highly operational voltage plateau of 1.75 V (vs metallic Zn) and a high capacity of 173.4 mAh g?1 at current density of 0.3 A g?1, taking advantage of the two‐species redox reaction of Co(II)/Co(III) and Fe(II)/Fe(III) couples. Even under extremely fast charge/discharge rate of 6 A g?1, the battery delivers a sufficiently high discharge capacity of 109.5 mAh g?1 with its 3D opened structure framework. This is the highest capacity delivered among all the batteries using Prussian blue analogs (PBAs) cathode up to now. Furthermore, Zn/CoFe(CN)6 battery achieves an excellent cycling performance of 2200 cycles without any capacity decay at coulombic efficiency of nearly 100%. One further step, a sol–gel transition strategy for hydrogel electrolyte is developed to construct high‐performance flexible cable‐type battery. With the strategy, the active materials can adequately contact with electrolyte, resulting in improved electrochemical performance (≈18.73% capacity increase) and mechanical robustness of the solid‐state device. It is believed that this study optimizes electrodes by incorporating multi redox reaction species for high‐voltage and high‐capacity batteries.  相似文献

Conventional charge storage mechanisms for electrode materials are common in widely exploited insertion/extraction processes, while some sporadic examples of chemical conversion mechanisms exist. It is perceived to be of huge potential, but it is quite challenging to develop new battery chemistry to promote battery performance. Here, an initiating and holistic deposition–dissolution battery mechanism for both cathodes and anodes is reported. A MnO2–Cu battery based on this mechanism demonstrates outstanding energy density (27.7 mWh cm?2), power density (1232 mW cm?2), high reversibility, and unusual Coulombic efficiency. It can be charged to 0.8 mAh cm?2 within 42 s and possessees a stable rate cyclability within vastly varied discharging current density (4–64 mA cm?2). Moreover, the deposition–dissolution mechanism can be universally adopted and derived such that the corresponding MnO2–Zn and MnO2–Bi batteries are successfully constructed. The material selection principle, deposition–dissolution behaviors of cathode/anode materials, and battery performance are systematically elaborated. Since the electrodeposition chemistry is capable of involving a large family of materials, for example, metal oxides as cathode materials, or metals as anode materials, the research could be a model system to open a door to explore new aqueous battery materials and chemistry.  相似文献

With the increasing energy crisis and environmental pollution, rechargeable aqueous Zn‐based batteries (AZBs) are receiving unprecedented attention due to their list of merits, such as low cost, high safety, and nontoxicity. However, the limited voltage window, Zn dendrites, and relatively low specific capacity are still great challenges. In this work, a new reaction mechanism of reversible Mn2+ ion oxidation deposition is introduced to AZBs. The assembled Mn2+/Zn2+ hybrid battery (Mn2+/Zn2+ HB) based on a hybrid storage mechanism including Mn2+ ion deposition, Zn2+ ion insertion, and conversion reaction of MnO2 can achieve an ultrawide voltage window (0–2.3 V) and high capacity (0.96 mAh cm?2). Furthermore, the carbon nanotubes coated Zn anode is proved to effectively inhibit Zn dendrites and control side reaction, hence exhibiting an ultrastable cycling (33 times longer than bare Zn foil) without obvious polarization. Benefiting from the optimal Zn anode and highly reversible Mn2+/Zn2+ hybrid storage mechanism, the Mn2+/Zn2+ HB shows an excellent cycling performance over 11 000 cycles with a 100% capacity retention. To the best of the authors' knowledge, it is the highest reported cycling performance and wide voltage window for AZBs with mild electrolyte, which may inspire a great insight into designing high‐performance aqueous batteries.  相似文献

Na‐based batteries have long been regarded as an inexpensive, sustainable candidate for large‐scale stationary energy storage applications. Unfortunately, the market penetration of conventional Na‐NiCl2 batteries is approaching its limit for several reasons, including limited rate capability and high Ni cost. Herein, a Na‐FeCl2 battery operating at 190 °C is reported that allows a capacity output of 116 mAh g?1 at an extremely high current density of 33.3 mA cm?2 (≈0.6C). The superior rate performance is rooted in the intrinsically fast kinetics of the Fe/Fe2+ redox reaction. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that a small amount of Ni additive (10 mol%) effectively mitigates capacity fading of the Fe/NaCl cathode caused by Fe particle pulverization during long‐term cycling. The modified Fe/Ni cathode exhibits excellent cycling stability, maintaining a discharge energy density of over 295 Wh kg?1 for 200 cycles at 10 mA cm?2 (≈C/5).  相似文献

Solid‐state lithium metal batteries (SSLMBs) may become one of the high‐energy density storage devices for the next generation of electric vehicles. High safety and energy density can be achieved by utilizing solid electrolytes and Li metal anodes. Therefore, developing cathode materials which can match with Li metal anode efficiently is indispensable. In SSLMBs, Li metal anodes can afford the majority of active lithium ions, then lithium‐depleted cathode materials can be a competitive candidate to achieve high gravimetric energy density as well as save lithium resources. Li0.33MnO2 lithium‐depleted material is chosen, which also has the advantages of low synthesis temperature and low cost (cobalt‐free). Notably, solid‐state electrolyte can greatly alleviate the problem of manganese dissolution in the electrolyte, which is beneficial to improve the cycling stability of the battery. Thus, SSLMBs enable practical applications of lithium‐depleted cathode materials.  相似文献

A rechargeable, stretchable battery composed of a liquid metal alloy (eutectic gallium‐indium; EGaIn) anode, a carbon paste, and MnO2 slurry cathode, an alkaline electrolytic hydrogel, and a soft elastomeric package is presented. The battery can stably cycle within a voltage range of 1.40–1.86 V at 1 mA cm?2 while being subject to 100% tensile strain. This is accomplished through a mechanism that involves reversible stripping and plating of gallium along with MnO2 chemical conversion. Moreover, a technique to increase the contact area between the EGaIn anode and hydrogel interface using CaCl2 additives, which reduces polarization and therefore reduces the effective current density, leading to higher discharge plateaus and lower charge plateaus. Relative to previous attempts at energy storage with liquid metal, the EGaIn‐MnO2 battery presented here shows an exceptional areal specific capacity (≈3.8 mAh cm?2) and robust, stable rechargeability over >100 charging cycles. The battery is also stable under bending, with negligible change in electrochemical properties when bent to a 2 mm radius of curvature. Batteries embedded within a wearable elastomeric sleeve can power a blue light‐emitting diode and strain‐sensing circuit. These demonstrations suggest that stretchable EGaIn‐MnO2 batteries are feasible for applications in wearable energy‐storage electronics.  相似文献

Li2MnO3 is a critical component in the family of “Li‐excess” materials, which are attracting attention as advanced cathode materials for Li‐ion batteries. Here, first‐principle calculations are presented to investigate the electrochemical activity and structural stability of stoichiometric LixMnO3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 2) as a function of Li content. The Li2MnO3 structure is electrochemically activated above 4.5 V on delithiation and charge neutrality in the bulk of the material is mainly maintained by the oxidization of a portion of the oxygen ions from O2? to O1?. While oxygen vacancy formation is found to be thermodynamically favorable for x < 1, the activation barriers for O2? and O1? migration remain high throughout the Li composition range, impeding oxygen release from the bulk of the compound. Defect layered structures become thermodynamically favorable at lower Li content (x < 1), indicating a tendency towards the spinel‐like structure transformation. A critical phase transformation path for forming nuclei of spinel‐like domains within the matrix of the original layered structure is proposed. Formation of defect layered structures during the first charge is shown to manifest in a depression of the voltage profile on the first discharge, providing one possible explanation for the observed voltage fade of the Li‐excess materials.  相似文献

Zn‐based batteries are safe, low cost, and environmentally friendly, as well as delivering the highest energy density of all aqueous battery systems. However, the application of Zn‐based batteries is being seriously hindered by the uneven electrostripping/electroplating of Zn on the anodes, which always leads to enlarged polarization (capacity fading) or even cell shorting (low cycling stability). How a porous nano‐CaCO3 coating can guide uniform and position‐selected Zn stripping/plating on the nano‐CaCO3‐layer/Zn foil interfaces is reported here. This Zn‐deposition‐guiding ability is mainly ascribed to the porous nature of the nano‐CaCO3‐layer, since similar functionality (even though relatively inferior) is also found in Zn foils coated with porous acetylene black or nano‐SiO2 layers. Furthermore, the potential application of this strategy is demonstrated in Zn|ZnSO4+MnSO4|CNT/MnO2 rechargeable aqueous batteries. Compared with the ones with bare Zn anodes, the battery with a nano‐CaCO3‐coated Zn anode delivers a 42.7% higher discharge capacity (177 vs 124 mAh g?1 at 1 A g?1) after 1000 cycles.  相似文献

Rechargeable aqueous Zn‐based batteries are attractive candidates as energy storage technology, but the uncontrollable Zn dendrites, low stripping/plating coulombic efficiency, and inefficient utilization of Zn metal limit the battery reliability and energy density. Herein, for the first time, a novel presodiated TiS2 (Na0.14TiS2) is proposed and investigated as an intercalated anode for aqueous Zn‐ion batteries, showing a capacity of 140 mAh g?1 with a suitable potential of 0.3 V (vs Zn2+/Zn) at 0.05 A g?1 and superior cyclability of 77% retention over 5000 cycles at 0.5 A g?1. The remarkable performance originates from the buffer phase formation of Na0.14TiS2 after chemically presodiating TiS2, which not only improves the structural reversibility and stability but also enhances the diffusion coefficient and electronic conductivity, and lowers cation migration barrier, as evidenced by a series of experimental and theoretical studies. Moreover, an aqueous “rocking‐chair” Zn‐ion full battery is successfully demonstrated by this Na0.14TiS2 anode and ZnMn2O4 cathode, which delivers a capacity of 105 mAh g?1 (for anode) with an average voltage of 0.95 V at 0.05 A g?1 and preserves 74% retention after 100 cycles at 0.2 A g?1, demonstrating the feasibility of Zn‐ion full batteries for energy storage applications.  相似文献

Potassium ion hybrid capacitors have great potential for large‐scale energy devices, because of the high power density and low cost. However, their practical applications are hindered by their low energy density, as well as electrolyte decomposition and collector corrosion at high potential in potassium bis(fluoro‐sulfonyl)imide‐based electrolyte. Therefore, anode materials with high capacity, a suitable voltage platform, and stability become a key factor. Here, N‐doping carbon‐coated FeSe2 clusters are demonstrated as the anode material for a hybrid capacitor, delivering a reversible capacity of 295 mAh g?1 at 100 mA g?1 over 100 cycles and a high rate capability of 158 mAh g?1 at 2000 mA g?1 over 2000 cycles. Meanwhile, through density functional theory calculations, in situ X‐ray diffraction, and ex situ transmission electron microscopy, the evolution of FeSe2 to Fe3Se4 for the electrochemical reaction mechanism is successfully revealed. The battery‐supercapacitor hybrid using commercial activated carbon as the cathode and FeSe2/N‐C as the anode is obtained. It delivers a high energy density of 230 Wh kg?1 and a power density of 920 W kg?1 (the energy density and power density are calculated based on the total mass of active materials in the anode and cathode).  相似文献

Aqueous Zn‐ion batteries (ZIBs) have received incremental attention because of their cost‐effectiveness and the materials abundance. They are a promising choice for large‐scale energy storage applications. However, developing suitable cathode materials for ZIBs remains a great challenge. In this work, pioneering work on the designing and construction of aqueous Zn//Na0.33V2O5 batteries is reported. The Na0.33V2O5 (NVO) electrode delivers a high capacity of 367.1 mA h g?1 at 0.1 A g?1, and exhibits long‐term cyclic stability with a capacity retention over 93% for 1000 cycles. The improvement of electrical conductivity, resulting from the intercalation of sodium ions between the [V4O12]n layers, is demonstrated by single nanowire device. Furthermore, the reversible intercalation reaction mechanism is confirmed by X‐ray diffraction, Raman, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy analysis. The outstanding performance can be attributed to the stable layered structure and high conductivity of NVO. This work also indicates that layered structural materials show great potential as the cathode of ZIBs, and the indigenous ions can act as pillars to stabilize the layered structure, thereby ensuring an enhanced cycling stability.  相似文献

Li and Mn‐rich layered oxides, xLi2MnO3·(1–x)LiMO2 (M=Ni, Mn, Co), are promising cathode materials for Li‐ion batteries because of their high specific capacity that can exceed 250 mA h g?1. However, these materials suffer from high 1st cycle irreversible capacity, gradual capacity fading, low rate capability, a substantial charge‐discharge voltage hysteresis, and a large average discharge voltage decay during cycling. The latter detrimental phenomenon is ascribed to irreversible structural transformations upon cycling of these cathodes related to potentials ≥4.5 V required for their charging. Transition metal inactivation along with impedance increase and partial layered‐to‐spinel transformation during cycling are possible reasons for the detrimental voltage fade. Doping of Li, Mn‐rich materials by Na, Mg, Al, Fe, Co, Ru, etc. is useful for stabilizing capacity and mitigating the discharge‐voltage decay of xLi2MnO3·(1–x)LiMO2 electrodes. Surface modifications by thin coatings of Al2O3, V2O5, AlF3, AlPO4, etc. or by gas treatment (for instance, by NH3) can also enhance voltage and capacity stability during cycling. This paper describes the recent literature results and ongoing efforts from our groups to improve the performance of Li, Mn‐rich materials. Focus is also on preparation of cobalt‐free cathodes, which are integrated layered‐spinel materials with high reversible capacity and stable performance.  相似文献

Recently, anionic‐redox‐based materials have shown promising electrochemical performance as cathode materials for sodium‐ion batteries. However, one of the limiting factors in the development of oxygen‐redox‐based electrodes is their low operating voltage. In this study, the operating voltage of oxygen‐redox‐based electrodes is raised by incorporating nickel into P2‐type Na2/3[Zn0.3Mn0.7]O2 in such a way that the zinc is partially substituted by nickel. As designed, the resulting P2‐type Na2/3[(Ni0.5Zn0.5)0.3Mn0.7]O2 electrode exhibits an average operating voltage of 3.5 V and retains 95% of its initial capacity after 200 cycles in the voltage range of 2.3–4.6 V at 0.1C (26 mA g?1). Operando X‐ray diffraction analysis reveals the reversible phase transition: P2 to OP4 phase on charge and recovery to the P2 phase on discharge. Moreover, ex situ X‐ray absorption near edge structure and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies reveal that the capacity is generated by the combination of Ni2+/Ni4+ and O2?/O1? redox pairs, which is supported by first‐principles calculations. It is thought that this kind of high voltage redox species combined with oxygen redox could be an interesting approach to further increase energy density of cathode materials for not only sodium‐based rechargeable batteries, but other alkali‐ion battery systems.  相似文献

A composite electrode composed of reduced graphene oxide‐graphite felt (rGO‐GF) with excellent electrocatalytic redox reversibility toward V2+/V3+ and VO2+/VO2+ redox couples in vanadium batteries was fabricated by a facile hydrothermal method. Compared with the pristine graphite felt (GF) electrode, the rGO‐GF composite electrode possesses abundant oxygen functional groups, high electron conductivity, and outstanding stability. Its corresponding energy efficiency and discharge capacity are significantly increased by 20% and 300%, respectively, at a high current density of 150 mA cm?2. Moreover, a discharge capacity of 20 A h L?1 is obtained with a higher voltage efficiency (74.5%) and energy efficiency (72.0%), even at a large current density of 200 mA cm?2. The prepared rGO‐GF composite electrode holds great promise as a high‐performance electrode for vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB).  相似文献

Li‐rich layered metal oxides have attracted much attention for their high energy density but still endure severe capacity fading and voltage decay during cycling, especially at elevated temperature. Here, facile surface treatment of Li1.17Ni0.17Co0.17Mn0.5O2 (0.4Li2MnO3·0.6LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2) spherical cathode material is designed to address these drawbacks by hybrid surface protection layers composed of Mg2+ pillar and Li‐Mg‐PO4 layer. As a result, the surface coated Li‐rich cathode material exhibits much enhanced cycling stability at 60 °C, maintaining 72.6% capacity retention (180 mAh g?1) between 3.0 and 4.7 V after 250 cycles. More importantly, 88.7% average discharge voltage retention can be obtained after the rigorous cycle test. The strategy developed here with novel hydrid surface protection effect can provide a vital approach to inhibit the undesired side reactions and structural deterioration of Li‐rich cathode materials and may also be useful for other layered oxides to increase their cycling stability at elevated temperature.  相似文献
