<Emphasis Type="Italic">Sperchon (Scutosperchon) akdagensis</Emphasis> sp. n. (Acari: Hydrachnidia: Sperchontidae) from Turkey

The structural characteristics, unique features, various organ measurements of males and females of the Sperchon (Scutosperchon) akdagensis sp. n. water mite from Turkey are described. In addition, morphological characteristics of the new species are compared with related species.     

Molecular identification and phylogenetic analysis of spider mites (Prostigmata: Tetranychidae) of Turkey

The family Tetranychidae includes many agriculturally important species known as spider mites. Their morphological identification is quite difficult due to the tiny size of their taxonomic characters and the requirement for high-level expertise. This may lead to pest misidentification and thus failure in pest management. DNA-based species identification seems to offer an alternative solution to overcome these issues. In the present study, two common molecular markers—Cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) and Internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2)—were used to identify 10 spider mite species from Turkey. Furthermore, genetic distances for several of them were assessed. Panonychus ulmi and Bryobia kissophila had the lowest (1.1%) and highest (4.5%) intra-specific genetic distances, respectively. In addition, integrative taxonomy allowed to identify Eotetranychus quercicola in Turkey as a new record. The sequences herein obtained will allow rapid species identification using molecular techniques and will contribute to resolve the phylogenetic history of spider mites.

     

A New Species of Laccobius Erichson, 1837 (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae: Hydrophilinae) from Turkey

A new species, Laccobius (Dimorpholaccobius) hopaensis sp. n. is described and Laccobius (Dimorpholaccobius) hoberlandti Gentili, 1982 is recorded from Turkey for the first time. In addition, a list of Laccobius Erichson, 1837 species known from Turkey is presented.     

A new species of Mecomma Fieber (Heteroptera: Miridae) from Turkey

A new species of Mecomma from Turkey is described and a key is given to the fifteen species and two subspecies of Mecomma now recognised.     

Morphometric analysis of oppiid mites (Acari,Oribatida) collected from Turkey

In order to assess the relationship between the oppiid mite species (Acari, Oribatida) collected from Turkey, traditional and geometric morphometric methods were used. We have taken photographs of 128 specimens belonging to 11 species from six subfamilies of Oppiidae. These photographs were digitized and 17 interval measurements were taken for traditional morphometric analysis, and 20 landmarks were recognized on the ventral surface of each specimen for geometric morphometric analysis. The effectiveness to separate taxa was compared between the two morphometric analyses. In both dendrograms Oppia nitens formed a single cluster, Oxyoppia ilicaensis was singled out from the remaining nine species, which were clustered together. Two species, Lauroppia fallax and Rhinoppia obsoleta, clustered together implying a very close relationship.     

New moth flies (Diptera: Psychodidae: Psychodinae) from Turkey

Specimens of moth flies (Diptera: Psychodidae: Psychodinae) were sampled in southwest Anatolia and the European part of Turkey between 2003 and 2009. Samples contained nine species new to science: Ulomyia asiaminorica sp. n., Pneumia pellucida sp. n., Berdeniella turcica sp. n., B. aktashi sp. n., Clytocerus thracicus sp. n., Jungiella afyonica sp. n., J. geniculatoides sp. n., J. barlasi sp. n., and Telmatoscopus remotus sp.n. The new species are described and illustrated. Distributional data for a total of 45 species are provided. 63 species of Psychodinae are now known to occur in Turkey.     

A new Centaurea L. (Asteraceae) species from Turkey

A new Centaurea L. (Asteraceae) species from Turkey is described and illustrated. Centaurea mersinensis Uysal and Hamzao?lu exists on calcareous slopes in Pinus brutia forests of Ayd?nc?k (Mersin) in southern Anatolia. It belongs to C. sect. Phalolepis (Cass.) DC., and taxonomically its closest relative is C. lycaonica. Diagnostic morphological characters from very similar taxa are provided, and a key is provided that includes related species of sect. Phalolepis from Turkey. The geographical distribution of the new species and relatives of the same section are mapped. The chromosome number of C. mersinensis, 2n = 18, counted in root tips, is also reported and illustrated.     

A new species of water mite <Emphasis Type="Italic">Atractides</Emphasis> (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Atractides</Emphasis>) <Emphasis Type="Italic">turcicus</Emphasis> sp. n. (Acari: Hydrachnidia: Hygrobatidae) from Turkey

In this study, the structural characteristics, unique features, various organ measurements of males and females of the water mite Atractides (Atractides) turcicus sp. n. from Turkey are described. In addition, the study compares their characteristics with related species.     

Bufonia yildirimhanii sp. nov. (Caryophyllaceae) from Turkey

Bufonia yildirimhanii?lçim & Behçet sp. nov. (Caryophyllaceae) is described and illustrated from Turkey. This new species is confined to C7 Sanl?urfa‐Birecik where it grows on calcarous slopes. The species is compared with the closely related Bufonia calyculata and B. kotschyana subsp. kotschyana. Notes on its ecology and conservation status are provided. A distribution map of the new and related species is also included.     

Nonea dumanii sp. nov. (Boraginaceae) from the Taurus mountains (south Turkey)

The new species Nonea dumanii, endemic to the mountains of the western Taurus in south Turkey (C4 Antalya), is described an illustrated based on original collections by the authors. Karyological observations and analysis of ITS1 DNA sequences showed that the species is probably hexaploid with 2n = 6x = 60 and has phylogenetic affinity to the diploid N. monticola from the Paphlagonian mountains as well as to the tetraploid N. anchusoides from northwest Iran and southeast Turkey. From these allopatric species it is morphologically distinct in characters of the indumentum, flower and fruit. Polyploidy is supported as a major driving force for speciation in Nonea, especially in the group of Anatolian mountain species with primary base number x = 10.     

Two new species of Tipula (Lunatipula) Edwards (Diptera: Tipulidae) from Turkey

Two new species in the acuminata group of subgenus Tipula (Lunatipula), Tipula (Lunatipula) oosterbroeki sp. n. and T (L) jaroslavi sp. n., were described and illustrated from Southwest part of Asian Turkey.     

Two New Species of Chaetopterygini (Trichoptera,Limnephilidae) from North-Eastern Turkey

In the present study, two new species of the tribe Chaetopterygini (Trichoptera, Limnephilidae) from north-eastern Turkey are described and illustrated. Rizeiella camiliensis sp.n. is the second species of the northern Anatolian genus Rizeiella and Kelgena macahelensis sp.n. is the third species of the Caucasian genus Kelgena.     

The camerobiid mites (Acari, Camerobiidae) of Turkey

Three new species of Neophyllobius viz. N. demirsoyi, N. yunusi, N. bolvadinensis and male, protonymph and larvae of N. lachishensis Bolland, 1998 from Turkey are described and illustrated. Neophyllobius lachishensis is reported from Turkey for the first time.     

Rotifera from north and northeast Anatolia (Turkey)

Samples from 21 freshwater sites in Turkey yielded 91 different species of Rotifera, 42 of which are new to the Turkish fauna. Lepadella costatoides n. sp. is described and L. costata Wulfert is redescribed. L. christineae Koste is synonymised with L. quinquecostata (Lucks). Remarks on the intraspecific variability of some species of Lecane are given. L. pomiformis Edmondson is added to the synonymy of L. pyriformis (Daday). The synonymy of the latter with L. paraclosterocerca Pennak is confirmed.     

A contribution to the Mesochorinae (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) of Turkey

We present a first account of the species of the subfamily Mesochorinae (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) found in Turkey and give distributional records for 5 genera and 23 species. Among them, 3 genera (Cidaphus Förster, 1869; Mesochorella Szepligeti, 1911; Stictopisthus Thomson, 1886) and 20 species are new for the fauna of Turkey.
