Many different species of fungi are often isolated from rotted cassava root tubers and pathogenicity studies have often implicated Botryodiplodia theobromae and Fusarium solani as the major causal pathogens. Consequently, more attention has often been focused on Botryodiplodia theobromae and Fusarium solani with little or no attention on the other minor pathogens. Considering the increasing importance of cassava to the Nigerian economy and the fact that minor root rot pathogens of cassava today could become major tomorrow, the aim of this research is to determine the incidence, pathogenicity and symptoms of the minor root rot pathogens in cassava from cassava fields within the derived savanna and the humid forest of Nigeria. Isolation of associated fungi was done on rotted root samples and the pathogenicity of these isolates were established by inoculating them into healthy cassava tuberous roots and subsequently reisolating them from resulting rotted tissue. The less frequently isolated fungi where Macrophomina sp., Trichoderma sp., Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Sclerotium rolfsii and Fungus ‘A’ (a yet to be identified fungus). Repeated experiments confirmed a constant relationship between inoculated fungus and the resulting rotted tissue colour. The root rot tissue colours associated with inoculated pathogens in the laboratory were identical with the pathogens colony colour on potato dextrose agar.  相似文献

Summary Data is provided on the fungi isolated from the roots ofAllium porrum which have been grown in three soils. These data show that the roots support a typical root-surface mycoflora, although this is more sparse than that recorded for several other Angiosperm roots.The results indicate that, as suggested by Peterson3, soil pH influences the association of saprophytic fungi with plant roots. Species of Cylindrocarpon, Fusarium, Mortierella and Gliocladium are fungi which seem to be most affected in this respect.The need for detailed studies on the biology of individual species, which frequently occur in close association with plant roots, is emphasized.  相似文献

Bacillus subtilis (Enrenberg) Cohn was investigated for its antagonistic properties against surface mycoflora of yam (Dioscorea rotundata Poir) tubers in storage. Yam tubers inoculated with a spore suspension of B. subtilis in potato dextrose broth using a knapsack sprayer showed a drastic reduction in the range and number of mycoflora, including pathogens of the tuber surface in contrast to the control tubers, during the five-month storage period in a traditional yam barn. However, B. subtilis maintained a high frequency of occurrence during the same period. Botryodiploidia theobromae Pat, Fusarium moniliforme Wollen and Reink., Penicillium sclerotigenum Yamamoto, and Rhizoctonia sp. were displaced completely on the treated tubers. The antagonism of B. subtilis was so effective that the normal tuber surface mycoflora was greatly reduced throughout the storage period of five months by a simple initial application of the antagonist.This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The giant Madagascar hissing-cockroach,Gromphadorhina portentosa, and its mite associate,Gromphadorholaelaps schaeferi, constitute an intimate commensalistic symbiosis. While the mite’s very survival is dependent by feeding on cockroach saliva and associated organic debris, the degree that the cockroach benefits from this association is unclear. We investigated the mite’s potential role at regulating surface fungi on the exoskeletons of this insect. Numbers of fungal isolates that resulted were compared between captive-bred cockroaches with and without mites. The mycoflora of both groups consisted of common molds (Alternaria sp.,Aspergillus sp.,Cladosporium sp.,Geotrichum sp.,Mucor sp.,Penicillium sp.,Rhizopus sp.,Trichoderma sp.). The presence of mites reduced the number of isolates by 1/2 in mature females, 1/3 in males, and 1/4 in sixth (final) instar nymphs. Fungus levels continued to drop when mite-free cockroaches were artificially supplemented with mites. A direct correlation was detected between mites and the reduction in the quantity of surface molds up to 20 mites per cockroach. The addition of more mites above 20 per cockroach, even 4x more, had a minimal, but still reducing, effect. Mites regulated all types of fungi, not just a select few taxa. We propose that mites reduce the mycoflora not because they consume fungi, but because mites and molds compete for the same resources in an ecological niche, saliva and organic debris that accumulate in between cockroach’s legs. Cockroaches reared in captivity do not apparently benefit by the removal of surface molds by mites, lending support for a commensalistic symbiosis. This cockroach species has been linked to severe allergic reactions in children, in part, because it harbors antagonistic molds. GivenG. schaeferi’s regulatory role at suppressing fungi, these mites could conceivably impose a small indirect, albeit beneficial role to humans by reducing the amount of fungal inoculum (conidia) that might otherwise be inhaled.  相似文献

【目的】探讨碳源和甲烷菌对厌氧真菌碳代谢的影响。【方法】利用体外批次厌氧发酵法,比较厌氧真菌纯培养(Orpinomyces sp.和Neocallimastix sp.)及其与甲烷菌共培养(F1:Orpinomyces sp.+Methanobrevibacter sp.和N3:Neocallimastix sp.+Methanobrevibacter sp.)发酵不同类型碳水化合物代谢产物的差异。【结果】对厌氧真菌和甲烷菌共培养F1和N3的研究显示,F1发酵木薯粉[(26.44±0.22)mmol/L]的乳酸产量是发酵玉米芯[(1.31±0.04)mmol/L]的20.18倍,是N3发酵木薯粉[(1.59±0.03)mmol/L]的16.63倍,玉米芯[(0.79±0.08)mmol/L]的33.47倍。当F1和N3中的厌氧真菌纯培养时,各组乳酸产量均1.90 mmol/L。对F1进一步研究,结果显示发酵体系中木薯粉添加量在0.8%–2.0%之间时,乳酸产量随木薯粉添加量增加而增加。当含量在1.0%–2.4%之间时,随木薯粉添加量增加,甲烷和乙酸产量逐渐降低。比较F1发酵大米粉、木薯粉、玉米粉、小麦粉和土豆粉的发酵结果,发现乳酸产量与底物中支链淀粉的含量成正相关(R2=0.9554)。当F1发酵葡萄糖和麦芽糖时,乳酸产量5.00 mmol/L。当以麦芽糊精为底物时,乳酸产量高达(28.00±0.95)mmol/L。【结论】本文首次报道碳源和甲烷菌能够增强厌氧真菌的乳酸代谢途径并且这种增强存在种属特异性。  相似文献

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz), is an important tropical tuber crop with global importance and plays a significant role in the food, nutritional and livelihood security of around 500 million people. In India, the low productivity of cassava attributes to the soil borne disease, particularly tuber rot caused by Phytophthora palmivora (Butl.) which is destructive and the attack is spreading in alarming rate in all the cassava growing regions causing heavy yield loss of more than 50%. Introduction of disease resistant varieties may alleviate the problem to a certain extent. This paper describes the screening procedures and findings on the disease resistant variety of cassava accession against tuber rot. Variety Sree Padmanabha imparted high resistance against tuber rot, while Sree Sahya was moderately resistant and all other accessions studied were found to be susceptible in in vitro and in field trials. In screening studies, a reproducible positive correlation was obtained between attached tubers in live plant with detached tubers which showed that detached tuber part can be used for the prediction of resistance in attached live plants of cassava for cultivar resistance. The procedure described here could be used as a simple, rapid and efficient method for screening of cassava accessions against tuber rot of cassava.  相似文献

Seed sample of lentil collected from the Swabi district were treated with NaCl and KCl at 0.01, 0.1 and 1.0% (w/w). Seed-borne mycoflora was observed at 0, 20, 40, 60 and 80 day intervals. Seed treatment with both the salts was found to be effective against storage fungi; however, KCl was more efficient against storage mycoflora such as Aspergillus species when compared with NaCl. With the passage of time, the incidence of deep-seated fungi was observed in salt-treated seed samples while untreated seed sample showed heavy infestation by the species of Aspergillus. Seed viability also remained unaffected in storage, except in seeds heavily infested with seed-borne mycoflora. Aspergillus spp. were the main cause of seed rot. Surface sterilisation of seeds with 1% Na(OCl)2 reduced the fungal infestation of seeds. Among various concentrations of salts, 0.1% (w/w) of both salts were better in controlling seed-borne mycoflora.  相似文献

Seed mycoflora associated with wheat was studied on different media with a particular reference to Blotter and potato dextrose agar (PDA) procedures of ISTA. Seed-borne fungi, viz. Fusarium moniliforme, Rhizopus spp., Mucor spp., Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Curvularia lunata, Drechslera spp, Alternaria spp. and Penicillium spp., were isolated from the variety HD264. Blotter method was found to be the best media for the isolation of mycoflora whether borne externally or internally. Total number and frequency of occurrence of fungi were recorded. The effect of seed treatment with different chemicals and eco-friendly botanicals was analysed on germination, and growth, better percentage of seed germination and reduction in fungal pathogen were due to biochemical seed treatment.  相似文献

California exports tree nuts to countries where they face stringent standards for aflatoxin contamination. Trade concerns have stimulated efforts to eliminate aflatoxins and Aspergillus flavus from almonds, pistachios and walnuts. Incidence of fungi on tree nuts and associations among fungi on tree nuts were studied. Eleven hundred pistachios, almonds, walnuts and brazil nuts without visible insect damage were plated on salt agar and observed for growth of fungi. Samples came both from California nut orchards and from supermarkets. To distinguish internal fungal colonization of nuts from superficial colonization, half the nuts were surface-sterilized before plating. The most common genera found were Aspergillus , Rhizopus and Penicillium . Each species of nut had a distinct mycoflora. Populations of most fungi were reduced by surface sterilization in all except brazil nuts, suggesting that they were present as superficial inoculum on (rather than in) the nuts. In general, strongly positive associations were observed among species of Aspergillus ; nuts infected by one species were likely to be colonized by other species as well. Presence of Penicillium was negatively associated with A. niger and Rhizopus in some cases. Results suggest that harvest or postharvest handling has a major influence on nut mycoflora, and that nuts with fungi are usually colonized by several fungi rather than by single species. The influence of vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi on rhizosphere mycoflora was studied together with the possible mechanism involved in this process. Six combinations of VAM fungi and phosphorus fertilizer treatments were applied to Leucaena leucocephala roots and quantitative and qualitative observations were made periodically of the rhizosphere mycoflora and constituents of root exudates. The results obtained indicate that the presence of specific mycoflora in the rhizosphere of mycrorrhizal roots is mediated through root exudates rather than being an outcome of improved P nutrition.  相似文献

On mycoflora analysis of dried fruits and seeds of chilli stored for six months, Aspergillus flavus and A. niger were the more frequent out of eighteen fungi isolated. Some terpenoids viz, Citral, Citronellal, Citronellol, Eugenol, Farnesol and Nerol showed absolute toxicity against A. flavus and A. niger at 0.5 per cent concentration. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and nature (fungistatic/fungicidal) of all the terpenoids against both these fungi were determined, Citral, Eugenol and Nerol exhibited a broad range of toxicity and were found to be more efficacious than some synthetic fungicides.  相似文献

The distribution of keratinophilic fungi in the soil of 57 school playgrounds in the Nablus area was studied with relation to human presence. A total number of 73 species was recovered. Thirteen of these species were dermatophytes and closely related fungi. The most common and frequent species of the latter fungi were: Arthroderma cuniculi (found in 32.1% of school playgrounds), Chrysosporium keratinophilum (32.1%), Microsporum gypseum (10.7%), T. terrestre (7.1%), and C. asperatum (7.1%). Twenty eight of the isolated species had been reported to be pathogenic; these comprised 64.3% of the keratinophilic mycoflora of school playgrounds.  相似文献

The mycoflora of the hair in 178 goats from the West Bank of Jordan was analysed and the frequency of occurrence and the relative importance value for the different keratinophilic fungi found were calculated. One hundred and seven species which belong to 38 genera were isolated. Thirty six of these species were either well recognised agents of mycoses (Trichophyton mentagrophytes, T. verrucosum, and M. nanum), or have been frequently isolated from human and animal lesions (Arthroderma spp., Acremonium kiliense, Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus flavus, Cladosporium carionii, and several other species). These potentially pathogenic fungal species comprised 66.9% of all keratinophilic fungi found on the hair of goats. The role of this animal as a reservoir for dermatophytes and other potentially pathogenic fungi is discussed.  相似文献

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz), one of the leading staples in the world, has considerable scope for integration into emerging markets through efficient and environmentally sound production of a diversified range of high quality, competitive products for food, feed and industry. One of the major reasons attributed to the low productivity of cassava in India is the incidence of tuber rot in cassava incited by Phytophthora palmivora. Usually, an array of microorganisms is involved in rotting of cassava tubers in the field and in postharvest conditions. Unfortunately, the disease management practices focus mainly on fungal pathogens. In this article, we tried to investigate the role of associative bacterial pathogens in induction of tuber rot of cassava, the potential of the bacteria with P. palmivora in causing disease incidence, spread and rotting. The bacteria and P. palmivora were originally isolated from tuber rot infected cassava from the field having a disease incidence percentage of above 40%, checked for pathogenicity and were proven for Koch postulate. The detached tubers of disease resistant (cv. Sree Pathmanabha) and susceptible cultivars (cv. M4) of cassava were used for the study. The effect of bacterial association was studied in Cassava agar plate assay, in detached tubers and in in planta experiments in in vitro glass house conditions. The bacterial isolates were identified as Gram-negative coco bacilli of class Pseudomonas, Erwinia amylovora and Achromobacter denitrificans.  相似文献

Ninenty six species which belong to 36 genera were isolated. Forty one of these species were either well-known agents of animal and human mycoses (Trichophyton verrucosum, T. mentagrophytes, Microsporum nanum, M. canis, and others), or have been isolated from human and animal lesions (Arthroderma cuniculi, A. curreyi, Chrysosporium tropicum, Acremonium kiliense, Aphanoascus fulvuscens, Aspergillus versicolor, Paecilomyces lilacinus, Scopulariopsis brevicaulis, and others). These pathogenic fungi comprised 75.4% of all fungi recovered from the hair of sheep. This animal seems to represent an adequate reservoir for several dermatophytes and several potentially pathogenic fungi.  相似文献

The mycoflora, moisture content and aflatoxin contamination of pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millisp) stored in jute sacks and iron bins were determined at monthly intervals for a year. The predominant fungi on freshly harvested seeds wereAlternaria spp.,Botryodiplodia theobromae, Fusarium spp. andPhoma spp. These fungi gradually disappeared from stored seeds with time and by 5–6 months, most were not isolated. The fungi that succeeded the initially dominant ones were mainly members of the generaAspergillus, Penicillium andRhizopus. Population of these fungi increased up to the end of one year storage. Higher incidence of mycoflora andAspergillus flavus were recorded in jute-sack samples throughout the storage period. The moisture content of stored seeds was found to fluctuate with the prevailing weather condition, being low during the dry season and slightly high during the wet season. The stored seeds were free of aflatoxins for 3 and 5 months in jute sacks and iron bins respectively. The level of aflatoxins detected in jute-sack storage system was considerably higher than that occurring in the iron bin system. Of 196 isolates ofA. flavus screened, 48% were toxigenic in liquid culture (54% from jute sacks and 41% from iron bins).  相似文献

The mycoflora of hair of 111 cows, donkeys, rabbits, cats, and dogs were analysed and the frequency of occurrence and the relative importance value of the different fungal species isolated were calculated. Total numbers of species 56, 45, 48, 23, and 11 were recovered from cows, donkeys, rabbits, cats, and dogs respectively. The majority of the keratinophilic fungi isolated were either well-known mycotic agents or have been recovered from various animal and human lesions. These comprised 87.8%, 66.7%, 61.4%, 59.3%, and 55.2% of the hair mycoflora in cats, dogs, rabbis, cows, and donkeys respectively. Seven species of dermatophytes were isolated: Trichophyton mentagrophytes, T. verrucosum, Microsporum gypseum, M. nanum, T. ajelloi, and M. canis. Cats harboured the largest number of dermatophytes (5 species), followed by cows (4 spp), rabbits (3 spp), and donkeys and dogs (1 sp). The role of these animals in the persistence and transmission of pathogenic fungi is discussed.  相似文献

Fungi and aflatoxins associated with spices in the Sultanate of Oman   总被引:4,自引:1,他引:3  
One hundred and five samples of seven spices (cumin, cinnamon, clove, black pepper, cardamom, ginger, and coriander) were purchased from five popular companies in the Sultanate of Oman. The spices were surveyed for the mycoflora and aflatoxins. Twenty fungal species were isolated in which Aspergillus flavus , A. niger . Penicillium , Rhizopus , and Syncephalastrum racemosum were the most dominant. When colony forming units per gm (cfu/gm) of fungi were compared, significant differences were found among spices and companies. Of the seven spices studied, clove was found to be the least contaminated, while cumin was the most contaminated. None of the 15 selected samples of the spices contaminated by A. flavus were found to contain aflatoxins. Nevertheless, nine isolates (45%) of the twenty A. flavus strains screened for aflatoxins were aflatoxigenic. The moisture content of most of the spices was below the maximum standard limit. The results showed that the spices were contaminated by some fungi that might constitute health hazards for humans. Psychrooligotrophic fungi from Arctic soils of Franz Joseph Land   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
Microfungi isolated from soil samples collected in Franz Joseph Land by means of the soil dilution and soil washing methods were screened for their ability to grow at low temperatures. The oligotrophic ability of the psychrotrophic strains was then determined on silica gel. A total of 40 taxa from 21 genera were isolated. Most isolates were species of Acremonium, Geomyces, Mortierella, Phialophora, Phoma, Thelebolus and sterile fungi. Eutypella scoparia, Hyphozyma variabilis and Ovadendron sulphureo-ochraceum are new records as soil and Arctic fungi. Most fungal isolates were psychrotrophic. The few psychrooligotrophs were species of Geomyces, Phoma, Thelebolus and Mortierella. Overall, our results suggest that the major component of an Arctic soil mycoflora should be active in one or more short growing seasons interspersed with periods of prolonged dormancy. Only a minor component, such as the small group of psychrooligotrophic fungi found in this study, may be expected to show continuous slow growth. Accepted: 22 November 1998  相似文献

Several fungi and bacteria, isolated from Ugandan domestic fermented cassava, released HCN from linamarin in defined growth media. In 72 h, a Bacillus sp. decreased the linamarin to 1% of initial concentrations, Mucor racemosus to 7%, Rhizopus oryzae and R. stolonifer to 30%, but Neurospora sitophila and Geotrichum candidum hardly degraded the linamarin. Adding pectolytic and cellulolytic enzymes, but not linamarase, to root pieces under aseptic conditions, led to root softening and significantly lower linamarin contents. Neurospora sitophila showed no linamarase activity, in contrast to M. racemosus and Bacillus sp., both of which were less effective in root softening and decreasing the root linamarin content. The most important contribution of microorganisms to linamarin decrease in the solid-substrate fermentation of cassava is their cell-wall-degrading activity, which enhances the contact between endogenous linamarase and linamarin.A.J.A.
