A total of 55 populations belonging to the genus Coincya Rouy (Brassicaceae) from the Iberian Peninsula were examined for their leaf wax composition. The total wax content and the relative proportions of the five main lipid fractions, hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, free alcohols and free sterols were determined. It was observed that there was a positive correlation between chemical composition and environmental adaptation, and also with certain morphological characterS. Changes relate to low temperatures or to high relative humidity, and there is a positive correlation between chemical composition and leaf glaucosity. 相似文献

A total of 68 populations belonging to the genus Coincya Rouy (Brassicaceae) from the Iberian Peninsula was examined for seed glucosinolate composition. The presence of progoitrin, epiprogoitrin, glucosinalbin and gluconapin was recorded plus a fifth glucosinolate that could not be identified. A geographical clinal variation between progoitrin and epiprogoitrin was observed in the more widespread taxa, C. monensis subsp. orophila (Franco) Aedo, Leadiay & Murioz Garm. and C. moncnsis subsp. cheiranthos var. recurvata (All.) Leadiay. The fewest types of glucosinatc were observed in taxa with morphological characters considered more primitive, viz. subsp. hispida and var. recurvata. On the other hand, more complex and diverse composition was observed in the taxon with more advanced characters, viz. C. rupestris subsp. rupestris Porta & Rigo. 相似文献

The fatty acid composition of the triglycerides and sterol esters of juice sac lipids were determined in Duncan grapefruit, Dancy mandarin and three of their tangelo hybrids. The fatty acid profiles of Orlando and Minneola tangelos resembled those of the Dancy mandarin parent more than those of the grapefruit. The profiles of Seminole tangelo were different from those of both parents and of its sister hybrids. 相似文献

A total of 21 flavonoid compounds has been detected in 14 species of Crambe. In general, both the sections of the genus and the species can be distinguished easily by their flavonoid patterns. The members of Crambe sections Crambe and Dendrocrambe seem to be the most primitive with their perennial or rhizocarpous habit. They show a diversity of flavonol glycosides, derived from either kaempferol or quercetin. The presumed presence of proanthocyanidins confers an additional primitive character to Crambe section Dendrocrambe. In contrast, members of Crambe section Leptocrambe show a relatively poor pattern where the quercetin glycosides have disappeared. In the case of C. hispanica and C. abyssinica flavonols are completely absent while two flavones, luteolin and apigenin appear in glycosidic form; these are probably the most evolved Crambe species and exhibit an annual habit. A dendrogram exclusively based on data of the presence or absence of flavonoids has been constructed. It is similar to the one that could have been expected from use of morphological data alone, but it does provide some hints on the possible phylogenetic relationships between the species. Flavonoid evidence also supports the hypothesis on an east-west Mediterranean disjunction within the genus. 相似文献

Alkane distribution pattern was determined in the epicuticular wax of leaves of 39 species and in the flower wax of three species of Epacridaceae. Uniform patterns were observed within some genera (Monotoca, Styphelia) whereas in others no common pattern was apparent. There was no difference between the alkane patterns of the two subfamilies Epacrideae and Styphelieae. The pattern was not affected by the presence of new growth, and there was no correlation with the season, habitat, climate, nature of soil, or the presence or absence of flowers. 相似文献

The fatty acid composition of trigylcerides from oranges, grapefruit, lemons and limes, was determined by GLC. Each species possessed its own intrinsic fatty acid pattern which might be used to differentiate it from the other species. The five major acids in all species were palmitic, palmitoleic, oleic, linoleic and linolenic. Collectively these acids comprised greater than 92% of the total acid content. Lemons were distinguished from all other species by their higher 16/16:1 ratios while grapefruit showed the highest total percentage of 16 and 16:1 acids. Lemons and limes contained higher percentages of branched-chain acids than oranges and grapefruit. 相似文献

Mutants affected in flavonoid (tt4) or sinapate ester (fah1) biosynthesis were used to assess the relative importance of these phenolic UV photoprotectants in Arabidopsis. Flavonoid and sinapate ester absorption was more specific for UV-B than major nonphenolic chromophores in crude extracts. A new method of evaluating phenolic UV-B attenuation was developed using fluorescence analysis. When excited by UV-B, sinapate ester containing leaves and cotyledons had enhanced sinapate ester fluorescence and reduced chlorophyll fluorescence relative to those without sinapate esters. Although fluorescence analysis gave no evidence of UV-B attenuation by flavonoids, enhanced chlorophyll and protein loss were observed upon UV-B exposure in flavonoid-deficient leaves, suggesting they have another mechanism of UV-B protection. The hydroxycinnamates have been largely ignored as UV-B attenuating pigments, and the results indicate that greater attention should be paid to their role in attenuating UV-B. 相似文献

Pugionium (Brassicaceae) is a small genus that occurs in central Asian deserts. The interspecific delimitation and taxonomic treatments of this genus are disputed and its phylogenetic origin remains unknown. In the present study, we examined these issues based on morphological and molecular data obtained for the first time. We used statistical methods to examine inter- and intraspecific morphological variations. The results suggest that only two species, namely P. dolabratum and P cornutum, can be warranted for all examined populations and specimens, whereas three species (P. calcaratum, P. cristatum, and R pterocarpum) should be incorporated into P.dolabratum. This delimitation was further supported by the molecular data: all populations of P. dolabratum, P.calcaratum, P. cristatum, and P. pterocarpum shared the same internal transcribed spacer genotype, whereas those from P. cornutum had another type. Phylogenetic analyses of Pugionium and representative genera of Brassicaceae based on ndhF sequences suggest that this genus is sister to the genus Megacarpaea, which, together, comprise a well-supported lineage with Farsetia, Lobularia, Iberis, and Ionopsidium, whereas the two other genera that were previously suggested to be closely related to this genus (Isatis and Bunias) were placed in the other lineages. We further discuss the origin of Pugionium and suggest that it probably originated in central Asia when the climate became drier from the late Miocene. 相似文献

The composition of the epicuticular waxes from the adaxial and abaxial surfaces of peach leaves varies considerably during one season's growth. Triterpenoid acids are major components 84–95% of the waxes from the youngest leaves but the proportions of these constituents decrease as the leaves expand. The waxes from the abaxial surfaces of fully expanded leaves consist primarily of hydrocarbons (C22–C34) and triterpenoid acids, whereas the adaxial surface waxes also contain large proportions of primary alcohols (C26-C34) and esters (C42-C52). The latter include sitosteryl esters of hexacosanoic, octacosanoic and eicosanoic acids. Variations were also noted between fully expanded leaves of different ages, the abaxial surface waxes of the oldest leaves containing the highest proportions of hydrocarbons, whilst the wax from the adaxial surface of the corresponding leaves contained the largest amounts of esters, sitosterol and hydrocarbons. 相似文献

Krill is a major source of astaxanthin, which has strong antioxidant activity. Fractions with astaxanthin monoesters and diesters of Antarctic krill Euphausia superba were isolated. Astaxanthin esters were separated by C18-HPLC depending on the number of carbons and double bonds of esterified fatty acid(s). Small amounts of other lipids remained in the samples, but relative molecular masses of carotenoid esters could be measured by field desorption mass spectrometry without fragmentation and interference from contaminant lipids. The fatty acids were determined by calculation of difference between astaxanthin and astaxanthin esters. Only five kinds of fatty acids, dodecanoate, tetradecanoate, hexadecanoate, hexadecenoate and octadecenoate, were detected. Fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry and secondary ion mass spectrometry showed similar spectra. The fatty acid composition in astaxanthin esters was different from those in krill lipids. Therefore, determination of fatty acids in carotenoid esters by a combination of HPLC elution profile and mild mass spectrometry is found to be a useful tool. 相似文献

Metabolism of Hydroxy Fatty Acids in Developing Seeds in the Genera Lesquerella (Brassicaceae) and Linum (Linaceae)
下载免费PDF全文
下载免费PDF全文 Members of the genus Lesquerella produce seed oil that contains a high proportion of hydroxy fatty acids (HFAs). There are three groups of Lesquerella species that are distinguished by their most abundant seed oil fatty acid: lesquerolic acid (20:1OH; e.g. Lesquerella fendleri), densipolic acid (18:2OH; e.g. Lesquerella kathryn), and auricolic acid (20:2OH; e.g. Lesquerella auriculata). To investigate the biochemistry of HFA production in Lesquerella species, the conversion of putative radiolabeled intermediates of HFA biosynthesis, including 18:1, 20:1,18:1OH, 18:2OH, and 20:1OH, was examined in developing embryos of L. fendleri, L.kathryn, and L. auriculata. The results are consistent with (a) 18:1OH formation by hydroxylation of 18:1, (b) elongation and desaturation of 18:1OH to produce 20:1OH and 18:2OH, respectively, and (c) desaturation of 20:1OH to produce 20:2OH. The desaturation of 20:1OH was also found to occur in developing embryos of high, but not low, linolenic acid flax. This suggests that the desaturation is catalyzed by the extraplastidial linoleate desaturase. Confirming this suggestion, it was notable that 18:1OH and 18:2OH were found in low and high linolenic flax (Linum usitatissimum) seeds, respectively, at levels of 0.2 to 1%. 相似文献

The fatty acid, sterol and hydrocarbon compositions of the fresh leaves from eleven species of mangroves, cultivated in a shadehouse, are reported. The fatty acid and sterol analyses, whilst generally typical of higher plants, showed several chemotaxonomically significant differences between the species. The epicuticular wax hydrocarbons and fatty acids were low in abundance compared to previous reports of mangrove leaf lipids, which may reflect the importance of environmental influences on this group of compounds. Cluster analysis of selected subsets of the data showed clear chemotaxonomic divisions amongst the mangroves. The results grouped the mangroves into genera, except for the Rhizophora and Ceriops tagal which were not separated, and grouped the family Rhizophoraceae distinct from all other species except Xylocarpus granatum. Avicennia marina var. resinifera was able to be distinguished from Avicennia marina by cluster analysis, supporting its assignment as a distinct variety. The results show that the lipids of mangroves are chemotaxonomically significant. 相似文献

The acid composition and the rubber content of the latices of 20 Hoya species were determined. All acids isolated from the latices were esterified with triterpenols and particle-bound. Cinnamic acid was the main acid in most latices. Acetic acid occurred in all latices, and predominated in three of the investigated species. Isovaleric acid and benzoic acid were present in some species; in one latex (H. bella) isovaleric acid was the predominant acid. Almost all species contained small amounts of phenylpropionic acid, and in two species this acid was a major compound. Longchain fatty acids were present as minor compounds. Rubber occurred in all particle-containing latices; its contribution to the total lipid fraction ranged from 1.7–24.0%. The acid profiles proved to be species-specific in Hoya and may be useful in species identification. Patterns of latex particle synthesis are proposed. 相似文献

Morphometric procedures were used with scanning electron microscopy backscattered images to study silica bodies in epidermal long cells of four different leaf veins of 17 of the 20 species of Oryza. The veins studied were midrib, large vein, small vein, and marginal vein. Image analysis was used to study morphological variations among the silica bodies. Statistical analyses were based on 11 variables. Even within a single leaf, silica bodies were not uniform. However, the degree of morphological variation normally showed a distribution of morpholgical types around one modal shape. The most significant differences observed were between silica bodies of the midrib and those of other veins. Bodies varied with respect to both size and shape. Computer-assisted image analysis is an effective tool for categorizing basic data and for statistical analysis of variation among silica bodies. Morphological variation among silica bodies of a single leaf may be related to water-conducting systems and their influence on silica availability and phytolith formation. 相似文献

In the present study we relate the variability in life-history traits (such as flowering time and lifespan) of the herbaceous biennial–perennial Erucastrum nasturtiifolium (Brassicaceae) to habitat type. We studied plant populations from arable fields and from eroded mountain habitats, such as badlands and rocky slopes. Collection sites ranged from low basin to sub-alpine regions in the NE Iberian Peninsula. Plants were grown under common garden conditions to evaluate genetic variation among and within populations. Plants were also subjected to a resource gradient to detect genetic variation in phenotypic plasticity. The populations exhibited differentiation across a number of life-history traits (mainly flowering time and lifespan) and morphological traits related to growth (basal stem diameter, plant height and number of branches). This suggests that life-history differences among populations are genetically based. Moreover, our results show that variation in flowering time and lifespan are affected by habitat type independent of other abiotic factors such as altitude or continentality. Thus, populations from arable fields started flowering in their first year and displayed annual cycles, whereas those from wild habitats generally flowered in their second year and showed biennial or even perennial cycles. Intra-population differences in flowering time were observed in only one population, and were related to nutrient availability. We suggest that early-flowering and shorter lifespan populations of E. nasturtiifolium may have been selected from late-flowering and longer lifespan populations as part of a selective process ensuring survival and future offspring amidst unpredictable and frequently disturbed environments such as exist in many agricultural habitats. 相似文献

Phenotypic and genetic variation within and among eight populations of Arabis serrata are documented in this study. This species shows great morphological variation throughout its geographical distribution in Japan. Plants are located in habitats with different types of soils and degree of disturbance. Half-sibs progenies from eight populations were collected and cultivated in a garden experiment. Nine morphological traits representing size and shape of rosette leaves were recorded. Univariate analyses of measured traits showed that phenotypic means differed among populations for all characters. Leaves of plants from disturbed habitats had the longest petioles (lanceolate) and plants from limestone habitats showed the most roundness in leaf shape (ovate). The northernmost populations always revealed the smallest leaves. Multivariate principal component analyses also showed that leaf shape and size varied among populations. The first three principal components explained 98.5% of the variation. Coefficients of variation had a very wide range and differed from one population to another. Some traits (e.g. leaf width/leaf length ratio) were consistently less variable while others (e.g. leaf area and petiole length) were more plastic. All traits had significant genetic variance in all populations. Intra-class correlation coefficients differed for most of the traits and each population presented a different range of values. Most of the leaf traits were intercorrelated in all the populations studied, although some populations were integrated more tightly for some traits. Populations of A. serrata are differentiated in phenotypic means but they display a mosaic of traits with slight morphological differences in each locality (i.e. a quantitative genetic variation). Some traits can be correlated to the habitats that they occupy but for some of them it is difficult to assign an actual adaptive value. 相似文献
