A new genus and species of zoarcid fish, Gosztonyia antarctica, is described on the basis of four specimens collected from the Bellingshausen Sea, Antarctic Ocean, at a depth of 615 m. Gosztonyia is placed in the subfamily Lycodinae and can be distinguished from all other zoarcid genera by the following combination of characters: seven branchiostegal rays, interdigitating ceratohyal–epihyal articulation, palatal arch reduced, posterior hyomandibular ramus longer than anterior, cranium narrowed, supratemporal commisure and occipital pores absent. A new species, Gosztonyia antarctica, is described and the relationships of the new genus are discussed.  相似文献

In the framework of a large-scale rock sampling in Continental Antarctica, a number of yeasts have been isolated. Two strains that are unable to grow above 20 °C and that have low ITS sequence similarities with available data in the public domain were found. The D1/D2 LSU molecular phylogeny placed them in an isolated position in the genus Taphrina, supporting their affiliation to a not yet described species. Because the new species is able to grow in its anamorphic state only, the species Taphrina antarctica f.a. (forma asexualis) sp. nov. has been proposed to accommodate both strains (type strain DBVPG 5268T, DSM 27485T and CBS 13532T). Lalaria and Taphrina species are dimorphic ascomycetes, where the anamorphic yeast represents the saprotrophic state and the teleomorph is the parasitic counterpart on plants. This is the first record for this genus in Antarctica; since plants are absent on the continent, we hypothesize that the fungus may have focused on the saprotrophic part of its life cycle to overcome the absence of its natural host and adapt environmental constrains. Following the new International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi and Plants (Melbourne Code 2011) the reorganization of TaphrinaLalaria species in the teleomorphic genus Taphrina is proposed. We emend the diagnosis of the genus Taphrina to accommodate asexual saprobic states of these fungi. Taphrina antarctica was registered in MycoBank under MB 808028.  相似文献

Eleven specimens of leptostracans were collected with the help of the camera-epibenthic sledge (C-EBS) in August 2015 at depth 3287–4469 m in the Kurile depression of the Sea of Okhotsk and in the Pacific Ocean to the east of the Boussole Strait (Kurile Islands) during the Russian-German expedition Sokho-Bio. All these specimens relate to new species of genera Nebaliella Thiele, 1904 from family Nebaliidae: N. ochotica. Nebaliella ochotica sp. nov. varies from the other species of Nebaliella by the unique values of the ratio of the rostral flange to exposed keel (2 : 1 in N. ochotica, 3 : 1 in N. antarctica, and 1 : 1 in other species). In this species, article 2 of mandible palp has 1 long seta by distodorsal corner, without stout spicular process and small setae; exopod of pleopod 1 has 5 stout long spicular setae on lateral border, with 1–2 stout long spicular setae on terminal border and with 1–3 distal spicular setae and 10–17 simple setae on medial border. Moreover, N. ochotica differentiates from N. brevicarinata, N. extrema and N. kurila by the absence of carina on anterolateral lower corner of carapace, arom N. brevicarinata and N. extrema—by the absence of ventroproximal tuberculate process on rostrum, and from N. antarctica and N. kurila—by compound articles 1 and 2 on peduncle of antenna.  相似文献

During a botanic expedition in 2013 to study the taxonomy of the genus Manihot in the Cerrado biome, numerous specimens were collected in the Chapada dos Veadeiros region, in central Brazil. After careful analyses, two new species of this genus were discovered. Manihot gratiosa and M. lourdesii are herein described and illustrated. Both species can be distinguished from morphologically similar species by a combination of characters such as shape and overlapping of leaf lobes, indumentum, type and aspect of inflorescence, integrity of pistillate sepals, as well as shape, integrity, and size of bracts of both male and female flowers.  相似文献

We describe a new nematode species, Baylisascaris potosis n. sp., isolated from captive kinkajou, Potos flavus, from the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. The nematode was found in fecal specimens, identified morphologically, and confirmed genetically. The new species is similar to Baylisascaris procyonis, Baylisascaris columnaris, and other Baylisascaris species, but is distinguished by the position of the male phasmidial pole. Nuclear and mitochondrial DNA sequence analyses confirmed that the new species is phylogenetically distinct from all the members of the genus Baylisascaris, and groups with B. procyonis and B. columnaris. This nematode is the 10th species assigned to the genus Baylisascaris.  相似文献

Summary A new species of calanoid copepod, Neoscolecithrix antarctica, is described for the first time from antarctic water. Relationships of this and the other species in the genus are discussed. Pressumed members of the planktobenthos, they are rarely collected. Distribution of the genus may be world-wide.  相似文献

Two new antarctic species of the genus Schizotricha Allman have been studied. The material comes from the Scotia Sea (Antarctica) and was collected by the Spanish antarctic expedition `Antártida 8611'. Both species are described and figured and the systematic position is discussed. A general survey of the geographical and bathymetrical distribution of the antarctic and subantarctic species of the genus is given. Finally, a key for the identification of the antarctic and subantarctic species of the genus, together with a comparative table including main features, are presented. The new species Probles (Euporizon) leei Khalaim, Balueva & Kim sp. nov., is described from South Korea. The new species is characterized by a reduction of the groove between glymma and the ventral part of postpetiole, whereas other species of Probles typically have a well-developed groove. This is the most abundant species of Probles in South Korea, where it accounts for over half of all collected specimens of the genus.  相似文献

Two species of oribatid mites of the genus Nothrus (Oribatida, Nothridae) were collected during an expedition to Taiwan in 2017. The species Nothrus anauniensis Canestrini and Fanzago, 1876 is redescribed and illustrated in detail; the main morphological traits for this species are summarized. A new species Nothrus xuejianensis Ermilov sp. n. is described; it differs from the closest species, Nothrus meakanensis Fujikawa, 1999 by the morphology and length of notogastral setae h2 and number of subcapitular setae m.  相似文献

Deschampsia antarctica Desv. is the only gramineae capable of colonizing the Antarctic due to the region’s extreme climate and soil environment. In the present research, bacteria colonizing the rhizospheric soil of D. antarctica were isolated and characterized. The soil studies showed that D. antarctica possesses a wide spectrum of psychrotolerant bacteria with extensive and varied antibiotic resistance, as well as heavy metal tolerance. The bacterial strains isolated from the rhizosphere of D. antarctica also produced a diverse pattern of enzymes. Based on the strain identification with partial characterization of the 16S rRNA gene, the majority of the isolates correspond to different Pseudomonas species, and species of the genus Flavobacterium sp. and Arthrobacter sp. The isolated strains collected from this research constitute a unique collection for future, more detailed taxonomic analysis and physiological characterization, contributing to the search for potential biotechnological uses. These findings and others have great potential for developing new biotechnological products from Antarctic microorganisms.  相似文献

Ceylonitermellus Emerson is a rarely collected soil inhabiting nasute termite endemic to Oriental region with three known species. A fourth species, Ceylonitermellus sahyadriensis sp. nov. is described and illustrated based on morphological characters of soldier and gut morphology of workers. Both the castes have poorly sclerotized body and paler in colour. This is the second species from India and fourth species of the genus from world. The species can be distinguished from the closely related C. periyarensis by the pyriform and shorter head capsule and with other two species of the genus by its larger head capsule as compared to C. kotuae and smaller head capsule as compared to C. hantanae. The new species was collected from tropical evergreen forest from a small colony near the base of a tree.LSID: urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:34616357-2CC9-46B2-8B8D-3CFD984CED89.  相似文献

Pycnogonids in the genus Colossendeis are found in the deep sea and Southern Ocean. Although the genus contains the largest and most conspicuous species of sea spiders, little is known about their ecology or behavior. We documented two species feeding on a variety of benthic and pelagic invertebrates during three diving field seasons at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Individuals of one species, Colossendeis megalonyx, fed on a variety of pelagic organisms, particularly the pteropod Clione antarctica. We used video to document rapid capture of individuals of C. antarctica by captive specimens of C. megalonyx in the laboratory, and we suggest that, at least in the nearshore environment, pelagic invertebrates are an important food source for this and potentially other pycnogonid species.  相似文献
