We compared the aquatic metazoan community structure in bamboo stumps between a lowland (Kosinggolan; 200 m a.s.l.) and a highland site (Moat; 1030–1050 m a.s.l.) in North Sulawesi. The lowland bamboo stumps harbored 38 taxa including 2 predators, and the highland stumps harbored 35 taxa including 2 predators. In total 45 taxa were recorded, including 3 predators. Dominant detritivores were Tipulidae, Scirtidae, Chironomidae, Culicidae and Ceratopogonidae. The sole dominant predators wereToxorhynchites mosquito larvae, which occurred in 67% and 28% of stumps at the lowland and the highland sites, respectively. Although the mean biomass per stump did not differ significantly between the sites, the mean number of species per stump was significantly smaller at the lowland site. In addition, the variation in species composition among stumps was greater at the lowland site than at the highland site. Among dominant taxonomic groups, the number of non-predatory culicid species per stump was smaller at the lowland site where their predator,Toxorhynchites, was more abundant, although both sites had the same number of culicid species. In the presence ofToxorhynchites, the density and biomass of other culicids per stump were reduced significantly. The difference in predator density might affect differences in the local-scale community structure of individual bamboo stumps.  相似文献

We studied the seasonal occurrence and the distribution patterns of larval mosquitoes in a bamboo grove in northern Kyushu, Japan. The number of pools was large from June to August and was small in winter. Deep stumps and semi-closed-type stumps held water more persistently than shallow and open-type stumps, respectively. Open-type stumps trapped more leaves than semi-closed-type stumps and the number of leaves trapped in the open-type stump was positively correlated with the area of the pool. The incidences ofTripteroides bambusa andAedes albopictus were low early in their breeding season and gradually increased thereafter. In August, the density ofT. bambusa larvae per pool was higher in the old (>2 months) pools than in the new pools and was positively correlated with the depth of the stumps. In contrast, the density ofA. albopictus did not differ significantly between the new-and old pools and was not significantly correlated with the depth of the stump. The density ofA. albopictus was positively correlated with the number of leaves that had been trapped in the stump, whereas the density ofT. bambusa was not. In addition to the seasonal fluctuation in habitat-patch availability, the variations in habitat persistence and resource input among bamboo stumps may facilitate the coexistence of the two mosquitoes that were differentially limited by these factors.  相似文献

To control the infections by root rot fungi Heterobasidion spp., surfaces of freshly cut Norway spruce stumps are covered either by a biological (Rotstop; spore suspension of competitive saprotrophic fungus Phlebiopsis gigantea), or by a chemical (35% aqueous solution of urea) compound. In Fennoscandia, Rotstop and urea are applied, respectively, on 47,000 ha and on 2000 ha of forestland each year. The aim of this work was to assess the impact of biological and chemical control on biodiversity in communities of non-target fungi in freshly cut (7-week-old) stumps. Isolation of fungi to pure culture was accomplished from 402 wood samples taken from 63 stumps, 21 treated with each of the compounds and 21 untreated. The isolations yielded 368 distinct fungal strains representing 47 species. Stump treatment led to decrease of species richness both in Rotstop-treated (by 15%) and in urea-treated (by 19%) stumps. Nevertheless, the stumps subjected to the biological compound were colonized mainly by the same fungi that occurred naturally in untreated stumps (Sorensen similarity indices; SS=0.69; SN=0.68). By contrast, chemical treatment strongly promoted stump colonization by Ascomycetes and Deuteromycetes, led to significant decrease of Zygomycetes, and almost completely eliminated Basidiomycetes (including Heterobasidion spp.). Thus, resemblance to a natural community was low (SS=0.45; SN=0.34). Rotstop treatment decreased significantly the extent of stump colonization by Heterobasidion spp., and increased that of P. gigantea. All strains of the latter were genetically identical among themselves and to the Rotstop strain. The mechanisms of biological and chemical control, and biodiversity aspects are discussed.  相似文献

The neural network underlying rhythmic wing movements in the molluscClione limacina is well-studied. Two different groups of motoneurons innervate two distinct groups of wing muscles. The locomotor rhythm generated in the left and right pedal ganglia is synchronized by interneurons. When the axons of the locomotor motoneurons are crushed, numerous fine neurites sprout towards the denervated muscles and reach them in 8–15 days. At this stage motoneurons project to and synapse on not only correct but equally incorrect muscle targets. After 2 weeks of regeneration the number of incorrect neurites and synaptic connections begins to decrease and following 1.5–2 months all incorrect connections are eliminated, incorrect axons are withdrawn and the behavioral deficit is compensated. In this study the regeneration of interneurons and the growth profiles of inter- and motoneurons were also studiedin vitro. Two individually isolated pedal ganglia were co-cultured in three different configurations: a) the wing nerve stump from one ganglion was fixed against the commissural stump from another ganglion; b) the wing nerve stumps were fixed against each other; c) the commissural stumps were fixed against each other. Under the above experimental conditions we found that the interneurons were able to cross only the contact between two commissural stumps, and in this case found their original targets, restored correct connections and synchronized the rhythm in two pedal ganglia. 研究植物功能性状在不同尺度的变异和关联,对于揭示植物对环境的适应策略和群落构建规律具有重要意义。以岩溶石山青冈群落为研究对象,测量了研究区内20个样方74种木本植物的叶面积、比叶面积和木材密度3个功能性状值,利用性状梯度分析法分析了3个性状在群落内部(α组分)及群落间(β组分)的变异格局及相关性。结果表明:(1)群落内3个植物功能性状的α值范围均大于β值范围,即物种相对于共生物种性状值的变化大于沿着群落平均性状梯度的变化。(2)植物功能性状比叶面积的种内差异引起的变化小于群落水平。(3)叶面积与比叶面积、比叶面积与木材密度、叶面积与木材密度的β组分相关性均最强,而α组分间无相关性或相关性较弱,即叶面积与比叶面积、比叶面积与木材密度、叶面积与木材密度两两性状间的相关性在群落间的依赖程度比群落内共生物种的依赖性要强,暗示物种在群落内和群落间采取不同的生态策略来适应环境。  相似文献

A palaeoecological study of a standing Late Triassic forest containing 150 silicified stumps from the Río Blanco Formation of Mendoza province, Argentina is described. A mapped portion of the forest floor provides quantitative data — tree density, mean separation of trees and basal area per stump — which, along with taxonomic and sedimentologic information, allowed the reconstruction of a plant community that grew along river banks and within proximal floodplain environments. Analysis of architectural and phenological data from monotypic forest indicates an evergreen community composed of a corystosperm genus with a canopy height of c. 13–21 m. The corystosperm taxon: Elchaxylon, like Rhexoxylon, has polyxylic axes with centripetal secondary xylem but does not generate perimedullar bundles and the centrifugal secondary xylem produces an undivided solid pycnoxylic cylinder. Vegetation analysis shows that the forest has a clustered distribution pattern with high density. Forest density ranges between 727 and 1504 trees/ha but there are first order clusters with elevated density (mean nearest neighbour distance of 1.85 m). The histogram of diameter classes based on 131 stumps suggests an earlier colonization by few older pioneers (the largest ones) followed by establishment of a large younger cohort of coeval trees. Based on 9 series and 139 rings, the mean ring width and mean sensitivity (MS) were 3.47 mm and 0.31 respectively. MS values and the presence of false rings indicate the forest community responded to stressed ecosystems. The growth rings are very erratic and range from 0.27 to 8.94 mm. For fossil growth analysis it was assumed that wider rings would suggest a warmer climate and the considerable range in growth rates would indicate variability in the limiting factors among subsequent cycles.  相似文献

Sitka spruce stumps were inoculated with decay fungi using colonized sawdust or dowel inoculum to investigate colonization in paired combinations. Estimates of domain sizes were made in the top 15 cm of stump after 13–14 or 21–23 months with sawdust or dowel inoculations, respectively. None of the co-inoculated species prevented colonization by Heterobasidion annosum; sapwood colonization by Resinicium bicolor may limit growth of H. annosum colonies out of heartwood, reducing the incidence of disease transfer at root contacts. H. annosum colonized stumps despite the presence of competing inoculum. Reduced colonization occurred in paired inoculations with R. bicolor, but not with other fungi. Co-inoculations with Stereum sanguinolentum increased colonization by H. annosum. R. bicolor largely remained in the upper 3–4 cm of stumps and reduced colonization by Melanotus proteus; growth of S. sanguinolentum was completely prevented. The results are discussed in relation to the colonization strategies of the decay fungi, their ability to colonize stumps in the presence of competitors and factors influencing development of communities of decay fungi in stumps.  相似文献

Despite decades of study, the relative importance of niche‐based versus neutral processes in community assembly remains largely ambiguous. Recent work suggests niche‐based processes are more easily detectable at coarser spatial scales, while neutrality dominates at finer scales. Analyses of functional traits with multi‐year multi‐site biodiversity inventories may provide deeper insights into assembly processes and the effects of spatial scale. We examined associations between community composition, species functional traits, and environmental conditions for plant communities in the Kouga‐Baviaanskloof region, an area within South Africa's Cape Floristic Region (CFR) containing high α and β diversity. This region contains strong climatic gradients and topographic heterogeneity, and is comprised of distinct vegetation classes with varying fire histories, making it an ideal location to assess the role of niche‐based environmental filtering on community composition by examining how traits vary with environment. We combined functional trait measurements for over 300 species with observations from vegetation surveys carried out in 1991/1992 and repeated in 2011/2012. We applied redundancy analysis, quantile regression, and null model tests to examine trends in species turnover and functional traits along environmental gradients in space and through time. Functional trait values were weakly associated with most spatial environmental gradients and only showed trends with respect to vegetation class and time since fire. However, survey plots showed greater compositional and functional stability through time than expected based on null models. Taken together, we found clear evidence for functional distinctions between vegetation classes, suggesting strong environmental filtering at this scale, most likely driven by fire dynamics. In contrast, there was little evidence of filtering effects along environmental gradients within vegetation classes, suggesting that assembly processes are largely neutral at this scale, likely the result of very high functional redundancy among species in the regional species pool.  相似文献

Summary In one cypress dome in the Everglades National Park, cypress knees seem to develop from vertical root loops that grow along and ramify into dead cypress stumps. Nearly all young root loops emerge close to a decaying stump. The proportion of these associations decreases as the diameter and presumed age of the loops increase. Loop density correlates with the density of dead but not of live trunks. These preliminary findings suggest that the root loops emerge primarily near dead stumps and exploit their nutrients until the stumps rot away and the loops develop into mature knees.  相似文献

Ribosomal DNA repeat unit polymorphism in 49 Vicia species   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
DNA restriction endonuclease fragment analysis was used to obtain new information on the genomic organization of Vicia ribosomal DNA (rDNA), more particularly among V. faba and its close relatives and the taxa within three (Narbonensis, Villosa, Sativa) species' complexes. Total genomic DNA of 90 accessions representing 49 Vicia species was restricted with 11 enzymes, and the restriction fragments were probed with three ribosomal clones. Twenty-eight repeat unit length classes were identified. The number of length classes (1–2) per accession did not correspond to the number of nucleolar organizing regions (NORs). The number of rRNA genes was independent of the 2C nuclear DNA amount present in the taxon. Each of the 90 accessions had 2 (rarely 1)-4 DraI sites. Those taxa with the same number of DraI sites generally could be distinguished from each other by different configurations. Probing of the DNA samples digested with tetranucleotide recognition restriction endonucleases emphasized differences between divergent spacer regions and enabled relative homologies between the coding regions to be established. Overall, rDNA restriction site variation among the species showed a good correlation with taxonomic classification. The rDNA analysis indicated evolutionary relatedness of the various taxa within the Narbonensis species complex. rDNA diversity within two other species complexes (Villosa, Sativa), on the other hand, was more extensive than expected. With few exceptions, data on the two complexes give evidence of taxon-specific divergences not seen with other approaches. The restriction site variability and repeat length heterogeneity in the rDNA repeat exhibited startling differences between V.faba and its close wild relatives included in the Narbonensis species complex. This analysis provides new evidence that none of the species within the complex can be considered to be putative allies of broad bean.  相似文献

We investigated the species richness and composition of ectomycorrhizal (EM) fungi colonizing Pinus sylvestris L. seedlings naturally regenerating in boreal forest, in three different microhabitats: on forest ground, on decaying stumps, and within moss layer on erratic boulders. We tested the hypothesis that habitat differences would affect the composition of the EM community of regenerating pine seedlings. In total, 16 EM species were detected, from which none occurred on seedlings growing in all three microhabitats. Piloderma croceum and Cenococcum geophilum were common for seedlings growing in forest ground and on boulders, while Tricholoma aestuans and Suillus luteus were shared between seedlings growing on forest ground and decaying stumps. EM species richness and composition were strikingly different between seedlings regenerating in different microhabitats. Results are discussed as a function of dispersal and niche differentiation of EM fungi.  相似文献

An enclosure study was conducted in Ranger Lake in south-central Ontario, Canada from 4 July to 5 August 1997 to determine predation effects of the larvae of the phantom midge fly Chaoboruson the zooplankton community. Zooplankton assemblages were established in 12 enclosures (2 m in diameter, 7.5 m deep). Three densities of fourth-instar Chaoborus trivittatus (0 l–1, 0.1 l–1 and 0.5 l–1) were introduced as predator treatments to the enclosures. Temperature, dissolved oxygen and zooplankton community composition were monitored for six weeks. To determine if the zooplankton community composition changed, a repeated measures multivariate analysis was performed on percent biomass of Bosmina and calanoid copepods. There were no significant differences in mean taxon percent biomass among predator treatments. There were significant differences in mean taxon percent biomass between water layers (epilimnion and metalimnion). There were also significant differences in lengths of Bosmina and calanoid copepods among predator treatments at the end of the experiment. Crop content analysis of C. trivittatusshowed that Bosmina constituted 88–98% of the prey items found in the crops. These results demonstrate that the use of deep enclosures, a Chaoborus species which vertically migrates, and lower natural densities of Chaoborus may provide prey with an important natural refuge from predation and so allow a more accurate determination of the predation impact of Chaoborus trivittatusin temperate lakes where fish control Chaoborus densities.  相似文献

The mechanisms controlling secondary succession on eutrophic peat are analyzed on an area of 500 ha marsh near the Lac du Bourget in the Rhône floodplain between Geneva and Lyon. After describing the succession, the authors compare the succession with that described for fens in England.During succession, three categories of phenomena occur:-Predictable phenomena based on the occurrence of well-established relationships between species with a high cover density. When mowing ceases, populations with increasingly higher biomasses reach dominance one by one.-Phenomena which were to be expected although the manner in which they occurred were more difficult to predict, such as the conditions in which woody plants take over.-Phenomena hidden in the framework of a synchronic analysis. The lowering of the water table, for example, can modify the entire community of species occurring in the sequence as well as the competition between species. The pecularities of each type of ecological situation made it difficult to develop general models.  相似文献

1.   The prediction of macroinvertebrate community composition in flowing waters from environmental data has enabled pollution assessments that take account of natural variability. Polluted sites are identified by discrepancies between the observed fauna and the fauna expected at an unpolluted site on the same type of river.
2.   The usual method of prediction involves a sequence of (a) classification of unpolluted reference sites by cluster analysis of macroinvertebrate community data (b) multiple discriminant analysis to relate site clusters to environmental variables, and (c) use of site clusters, discriminant functions and environmental data to estimate the probability of collection of each macroinvertebrate taxon at sites that are to be assessed (test sites).
3.   This paper describes an alternative method that does not require classification and predicts abundance rather than probability of occurrence. The main steps are (a) multiple regression of biological differences between pairs of reference sites on differences in physical variables (b) use of the multiple regression relationship to predict the biological similarity of a test site to each reference site, and (c) estimation of the expected fauna at the test site as a weighted mean of the faunas at the reference sites. The predicted similarities of the test site to each reference site are used to derive the weightings.
4.   The method is illustrated using macroinvertebrate and environmental data collected in the upper Murrumbidgee River catchment as part of Australia's Monitoring River Health Initiative. In comparison with a classification-based analysis of these data, macroinvertebrate indices generated by the new method showed a greater distinction between human-disturbed and undisturbed test sites, and a similar or higher degree of correlation with physical and chemical indicators of human disturbance.  相似文献

Summary Resinicium bicolor (Alb. & Schw. ex Fr.) Parm. [=Odontia bicolor (Alb. & Schw. ex Fr.) Bres.] is an outcrossing resupinate basidiomycete associated with root and butt rots of trees, but is itself only very weakly pathogenic. The distribution of genets among every spruce stump in a 70-year-old 1250 m2 spruce stand was analysed using somatic incompatibility testing. R. bicolor was present on 40% of 8-to 10-year-old stumps. Nineteen genets were found occupying 32 stumps; yielding probabilities of colonisation following establishment by basidiospores of 0.20–0.24 and by mycelial extension or dispersal of 0.16–0.20. The probability of colonisation decreased with increasing distance from a point of establishment. R. bicolor responded to both enrichment and destructive disturbances by the formation of an extensive cord system which enabled it to colonise discontinuously distributed resources and to overgrow fungi adjacent to it in a single resource unit, including Heterobasidion annosum.  相似文献

揭示群落物种共存格局是群落生态学研究的重点内容之一,零模型的应用极大的促进了群落物种共存格局及其调控机制的进展,然而针对地下生物群落共存格局动态特征的研究并不多见。在帽儿山森林生态站的人工红松林内,通过5次调查取样基于零模型模拟分析小尺度空间(20 m×20 m)步行虫群落物种共存格局的动态特征。结果表明:(1)共捕获步行虫20种,2278只个体,其中Carabus billergi maoershanensis为所有调查季节数量最具优势且分布最广泛的物种,步行虫群落结构具明显的时间变异性;(2)2013年6月步行虫群落为集群性共存格局,而2014年8、10月为竞争性共存格局,基于目前的零模型指标和法则难以准确揭示其他月份是集群性还是竞争性的共存格局,但所有季节的群落均表现为明显的非随机性共存格局,这些共存格局的发现并不完全支持Diamond的群落构建机制理论;(3)所有调查季节均发现很少的显著物种对,基于更严格的检验表明群落中集群性物种对多于隔离性物种对,那些表现为显著的非随机性共存关系的物种对往往是群落内数量较大且分布广泛的优势和常见物种。表明非随机性共存格局可能是帽儿山人工红松林小尺度空间步行虫群落的常见格局,这种非随机性格局具一定的短期动态稳定性,但不同季节这种非随机性共存格局类型表现不同,群落内这些较少的显著物种对可能对群落物种共存格局具有一定的贡献。  相似文献

A study was conducted to determine the spatial distribution of somatic incompatibility groups (SIGs) in Rigidoporus lignosus populations responsible for white root disease in a south Sumatera rubber plantation. Most isolates colonizing the stumps were somatically compatible with isolates from either a nearby stump or a living rubber tree, which suggested evidence of stump-to-tree or stump-to-stump clonal growth of the fungus. SIGs of R. lignosus occupied an area territorially in which the minimum size estimate for the largest genotype was 25m in length.  相似文献

The urodelan genus Lyciasalamandra, which inhabits a relatively small area along the southern Turkish coast and some Aegean islands, provides an outstanding example of a diverse but phylogenetically unresolved taxon. Molecular trees contain a single basal polytomy that could be either soft or hard. We here use the information of nuclear (allozymes) and mitochondrial (fractions of the 16S rRNA and ATPase genes) datasets in combination with area relationships of lineages to resolve the phylogenetic relationships among Lyciasalamandra species in the absence of sufficient node support. We can show that neither random processes nor introgressive hybridization can be invoked to explain that the majority of pairs of sister taxa form geographically adjacent units and interpret that this pattern has been shaped by vicariant events. Topology discordance between mitochondrial and nuclear trees mainly refers to an affiliation of L. helverseni, a taxon restricted to the Karpathos archipelago, to the western-most and geographically proximate mainland taxon in the nuclear tree, while in the organelle tree it turns out to be the sister lineage to the geographically most distant eastern clade. As this discordance cannot be explained by long-branch attraction in either dataset we suppose that oversea dispersal may have accounted for a second colonization of the Karpathos archipelago. It may have initiated introgression and selection driven manifestation of alien eastern mitochondrial genomes on a western nuclear background. Our approach of testing for area relationships of sister taxa against the null hypothesis of random distribution of these taxa seems to be especially helpful in phylogenetic studies where traditional measures of phylogenetic branch support fail to reject the null hypothesis of a hard polytomy.  相似文献
