Scoliosis is a deformity characterized by lateral curvature of the spine and accompanied by axial rotation of the vertebrae; it often causes varying degrees of trunk deformity. Research has indicated that topographic techniques can be used to describe the disorder and monitor its progression. A video image acquisition system has been designed which reduces the time required to quantify topographic details of the trunk and aids in the diagnosis, monitoring and research of scoliosis. This system integrates the capability of large, expensive grey-scale image acquisition equipment into a small, low-cost diagnostic imaging tool using current technologies and design techniques. The video digitizer accepts a standard NTSC monochromatic video signal as input and the unit is connected to a computer via an EEE-488 bus from which the ditigizer is controlled. The digitizer samples the video signal in real time using a high-speed flash converter controlled by an application-specific integrated circuit; the digital samples are stored in memory until the host computer requests that the information be transferred.  相似文献

A computer-controlled system for the investigation of the responseproperties of the tibio-femoral chordotonal organ in the locustis described. The computer is used to generate small amplitudesinusoidal movements of the tibia via a small servo-controlledmotor. A system comprising a suite of 4 computer programs has been developed for on-line rodent weight data collection and statistical analysis using an IBM personal computer. Data can be collected from up to 3 separate trials simultaneously, and can be stored for later statistical analysis. Mettler balances were used for the animal weighing. A new system for computing brain electrical activity maps on a standard IBM-compatible computer has been developed. The EEG is recorded using a CED1401 intelligent laboratory interface and stored in the computer; colour coded maps are generated using softwave developed in Turbo PASCAL and displayed on the EGA graphics screen. An acceptable computation time of 1.2 s for a 64 × 64 map displayed as a 128 × 128 pixel image has been achieved by incorporating assembly language routines and a maths coprocessor. The system may be readily upgraded as improved hardware becomes available and further software can be added. In addition to triggering auditory, visual and somatosensory stimulators, it provides the potential for the generation of complex stimuli for cognitive experiments by means of mass RAM and digital-to-analogue converters.  相似文献

A flexible program system for on-line analysis of pressure data from cardiac catheterizations is described. The programs are implemented on an IBM 1800 computer, equipped with remote oscilloscope/keyboard terminals. The current computer system can handle any combination of up to 4 pressure signals. During catheterization, measurement specifications (i.e. calibration levels or sites of pressure recordings) are entered via the keyboard immediately before each recording. As an option the whole expected measurement sequence may be stored on disk before the catheterization starts. This method will minimize the necessary interaction with the computer when the same catheterization procedure is used on several occasions. Changes from the predetermined scheme may, however, be undertaken before each recording to meet with unexpected events that may arise during the catheterization. After computer detection of calibration levels, the recorded signals are digitized during 20 seconds and analysed beat-by-beat. Calculated values are averaged and presented on the terminal oscilloscope in tabular and/or graphic form. The waveform analysis performed by the program system is validated in a statistical comparison between manually and automatically computed values.  相似文献

The Laboratory Animal Management System (LAMS) is a flexible, multi-purpose animal house management tool. It has a decentralized structure and was developed using UNIFACE and Oracle-database software. The multiuser LAMS system runs on a Micro-Vax computer and can be accessed from several workstations. LAMS has been designed to manage the following functions: animal study details; animal procurement; book keeping and follow-up; amendments; update of data; inquiries; statistics and numerous additional tasks. LAMS is a user-friendly interactive system which does not allow input of incorrect data and can be operated by staff with very little computer experience. The system fully complies with German legal requirements and is becoming an increasingly important tool for routine management of animal house facilities and animal experimentation.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Traditionally, observations on the nature of protozoa have been published in periodicals or books, or remain buried in research notebooks. The retrieval and processing of information on a particular species or strain are dependent solely upon individual investigators. Although various modern methods have been applied to the study of protozoa, no attempt has been made to develop a system with which information on protozoan strains can be stored, retrieved easily, and processed for various analyses by computer technology. Based upon an existing system for encoding data on bacterial strains, a complementary system applicable to protozoan strains was developed and is described herein.  相似文献

A program has been written in BASIC that allows DNA sequence gels to be read by a Tektronix model 4052 computer equipped with a graphics tablet. Sequences from each gel are stored on tape for later transfer to a larger computer where they are melded into a complete overall sequence. An automatic tracking system for rotifer swimming movements is described. The x and y coordinates of the Center of gravity of the animal are stored in the computer memory every twelfth of a second. Computer programs were developed to analyze the data and to calculate the average and the standard deviation for the following parameters per unit of time: distance traveled, turning angles toward the right and toward the left, distance from the point of departure as the crow flies. Histograms are traced by the computer showing the distribution of these values, as well as their evolution with time. This experimental system is dependable. The first values which we obtained for the swimming speed of rotifers correspond well with those which are given in the literature. The other parameters had not been measured until now.  相似文献

A data collection system has been constructed, based on the low-cost BBC microcomputer, which provides for the digitization and storage of the data from one or more g.l.c. or h.p.l.c. instruments, or from other data sources with similar data rates. The data can be observed during collection on the graphics screen, and are then stored on disk for subsequent processing. This processing is designed to be interactive, so that the operator can influence decisions about base-line drifts, peak separations, etc. when integrating the peaks, and can decide which peaks are to be stored in a time/intensity record, on the basis of a visual display of the trace. A low cost multi-channel precision ADC, using isolated voltage-to-frequency transducers sited at the sources of data, and multiple counters at the computer, may be used to measure several signals simultaneously even when they originate at some distance from the computer, and extra memory can also be added to the BBC microcomputer to allow temporary storage of data. The software is written in machine code (for the data collection) and BASIC (for the analysis routines) so that modifications to the latter routines can be made easily. The user interface is suitable for routine users who have no computing experience.  相似文献

A graphics program, MOLPACK, has been developed on the Silicon Graphics IRIS-4D computer system for displaying the packing of proteins in the crystallographic unit cell. In addition to the normal viewing operations of rotation, translation and scaling, the program has the ability to translate molecules along the cell axes while maintaining their crystallographic equivalent positions within the unit cell. This allows the user to observe the packing of protein molecules generated by molecular replacement, to create a new packing model or to locate an unknown molecule. A special feature of the program is that up to four independent molecules can be manipulated in the asymmetric unit.  相似文献

Unconstrained system that measures physiological information as skin temperatures and heart rate per unit time of a human subject was developed. The system contained portable device included memory control unit, instrumentation unit, timer and batteries, read-out unit, test unit and verify unit. Total number of data and channels, and interval were selected by switches in the memory control unit. The data from the instrumentation unit were transferred to memory control unit and stored in the Erasable Programmable ROM (EPROM). After measurement, EPROM chip was taken off the memory control unit and put on the read-out unit which transferred the data to the microcomputer. The data were directly calculated and analyzed by microcomputer. In application of the instrumentation unit, 8-channel skin thermometer was developed and tested. After amplification, 8 analog signals were multiplexed and converted into the binary codes. The digital signals were sequentially transferred to memory control unit and stored in the EPROM under controlled signal. The accuracy of the system is determined primarily by the accuracy of the sensor of instrumentation unit. The overall accuracy of 8-channel skin thermometer is conservatively stated within 0.1 degree C. This may prove to be useful in providing an objective measurement of human subjects, and can be used in studying environmental effect for human body and sport activities in a large population setting.  相似文献

The Highly Optimized Microscope Environment (HOME) is a computerized microscope design for assisting pathologists and cytotechnologists in routine clinical tasks. The prototype system consists of an IBM PC-compatible computer and a light microscope in which a built-in high-resolution computer display image is super-imposed on the optical image of the specimen. Also, an encoding stage and objective turret encoder are used to provide continuous monitoring of the stage coordinates and microscope magnification to the computer. This allows any position on the stage to be uniquely defined. Software, written in C language and running under the MS-DOS/MS-Windows environment, is controlled by means of a mouse-driven cursor. A specific application has been developed for cervical cancer screening, taking into account the needs and constraints of microscopists performing this task. Informatics tools offered by the HOME system provide them with precise flagging and relocation of objects on the slide, control of the scanning pathway, and ability to write and print the report directly through the microscope. The computer files generated by microscopic examination are stored and contain information available for quality control assessment and laboratory management.  相似文献

The software is used to count phytoplankton samples and produce summary data. A micro and macro ecological system hypotheses and their associated theory of total (direct and indirect) energy cost have been proposed to explain the meaning of system growth and the steady state condition. Models have been proposed which can be used to test the hypotheses. In brief, the hypotheses are that while the components of an ecosystem strive to maximize their total direct and indirect energy storage within the constraints of their production characteristics, the overall system strives to minimize the metabolized energy per unit of stored biomass energy. The steady state result is a system with the largest possible stored biomass under the general constraints of water, air, soil and sunlight availability.Feeding strategies are discussed with the conclusion that a net total energy-maximizing feeding strategy may be able to replace the present concepts.  相似文献

A model of the mechanical behaviour of soft connective tissue has been developed by considering the role of the collagen and glycosaminoglycan (GAG) components within the tissue in order to examine the mechanism by which a variation in the GAG components may exert a control over the mechanical properties of the tissue. It is proposed that the strain energy stored within the collagen fibrils of the loaded tissue can be transferred into a potential field created by the charged GAG components and their electrostatic interaction with the collagen fibrils. A fundamental mechanical unit is described to simulate this energy transfer and a combination of such units is used to represent the tissue. The computer implementation of the proposed tissue model shows it to reproduce many features which have been recognised in the rate dependent mechanical behaviour of soft tissues. These include the characteristic non-linearity of the force-deformation behaviour and the approximate invariance of the stress relaxation behaviour with deformation. The model is also consistent with earlier constitutive representations of tissue behaviour.  相似文献

An interactive system for computer analysis of nucleic acid and protein sequences has been developed for the Los Alamos DNA Sequence Database. It provides a convenient way to search or verify various sequence features, e.g., restriction enzyme sites, protein coding frames, and properties of coded proteins. Further, the comprehensive analysis package on a large-scale database can be used for comparative studies on sequence and structural homologies in order to find unnoted information stored in nucleic acid sequences.  相似文献
