An oligotrophic clearwater lake, initially characterized by a pronounced dominance of autotrophic phytoplankton and mostly by one species, the green alga Botryococcus, was subject to additions of dissolved organic carbon in the form of white sugar (sucrose) during two consecutive years. The hypothesis tested was that it is organic carbon per se, and not other possible effects of humic substances, that determines the differences in structure of the planktonic ecosystem between humic and clearwater lakes. The additions of DOC resulted in a significant increase in bacterial biomass and a decrease in the biomass of autotrophic phytoplankton. The biomass of mixotrophic and heterotrophic flagellates instead increased significantly, whereas no effects were found to propagate to higher trophic levels. As a result of the changes among biota, total planktonic biomass also decreased to a level typical of nearby humic lakes. We suggest that it is the carbon component of humic material and its utilization by bacterioplankton that determines the structure and function of the pelagic food web in humic lakes.  相似文献

Bacterial growth and grazing mortality were estimated from Mayto October in two south Swedish oligotrophic lakes, one beinga clearwater lake (water colour 5–10 mg Pt l–1 DOC2.9–3.4 mg l–1, Secchi disk depth 5.0–9.4m) and the other a humic, brownwater lake (water colour 105–165mg Pt l–1, DOC 13.7–22.7mg l–1, Secchi diskdepth 1.3–2.1 m). Specific rates of growth and grazingmortality were generally similar for both lakes. However, theabundance of bacteria was consistently 2–3 times higherin the water of the humic lake, suggesting that the total productionand consumption of bacterial cells were also higher than inthe dearwater lake. The ratio of bacterial secondary productionto primary production was higher in the humic lake than in theclearwater lake, indicating that the bacterioplankton of thehumic lake utilize allochthonous substrates, in addition tosubstrates originating from autochthonous primary production. Most of the bacterial loss in both lakes could be attributedto small protozoan grazers. This implies that allochthonousand autochthonous organic carbon fixed by bacterioplankton isless important in terms of carbon flow to higher trophic levelsthan would be expected if macrozooplankton were the dominantbacterivores, providing a more direct and efficient transferof carbon to larger organisms.  相似文献

Bacterioplankton from 10 oligotrophic lakes, representing a gradient from clearwater to polyhumic, were grown in dilution cultures of sterile filtered lake water. The bacterial biomass achieved in the stationary phase of the dilution cultures was positively correlated with the amount of both humic matter and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in the lakes. About the same fraction of the total DOC pool was consumed in the dilution cultures of all lakes (average 9.5%, coefficient of variation (CV) 24%), with approximately the same growth efficiency (average 26%, CV 28%). Thus, humic lakes could support a higher bacterial biomass than clearwater lakes due to their larger DOC pools. The relevance of the results to planktonic food webs of humic and clearwater lakes is discussed.  相似文献

The phylogenetic composition of bacterioplankton communities in the water column of four shallow eutrophic lakes was analyzed by partially sequencing cloned 16S rRNA genes and by PCR-DGGE analysis. The four lakes differed in nutrient load and food web structure: two were in a clearwater state and had dense stands of submerged macrophytes, while two others were in a turbid state characterized by the occurrence of phytoplankton blooms. One turbid and one clearwater lake had very high nutrient levels (total phosphorus > 100 microg/l), while the other lakes were less nutrient rich (total phosphorus < 100 microg/l). Cluster analysis, multidimensional scaling and ANOSIM (analysis of similarity) were used to investigate differences among the bacterial community composition in the four lakes. Our results show that each lake has its own distinct bacterioplankton community. The samples of lake Blankaart differed substantially from those of the other lakes; this pattern was consistent throughout the year of study. The bacterioplankton community composition in lake Blankaart seems to be less diverse and less stable than in the other three lakes. Clone library results reveal that Actinobacteria strongly dominated the bacterial community in lake Blankaart. The relative abundance of Betaproteobacteria was low, whereas this group was dominant in the other three lakes. Turbid lakes had a higher representation of Cyanobacteria, while clearwater lakes were characterized by more representatives of the Bacteroidetes. Correlating our DGGE data with environmental parameters, using the BIOENV procedure, suggests that differences are partly related to the equilibrium state of the lake.  相似文献

The ability of fractions of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) of different molecular weights (MW) to support bacterial growth was studied in batch culture experiments. Natural pelagic bacteria were inoculated into particle-free (0.2-μm filtered) water, taken from 10 oligotrophic lakes of differing humic content, and either used without further treatments or ultrafiltered to remove DOC of >10,000 MW or >1,000 MW. Stationaryphase abundance of bacteria in the cultures was used as an estimate of bacterial carrying capacity. High-MW DOC (>10,000) comprised an increasing fraction of total DOC with increasing total DOC and humic content of the lakes. High-MW DOC was generally more available to bacteria (i.e., more bacteria were produced per unit of organic carbon initially present) than low-MW (<10,000) DOC. The availability to bacteria of this high-MW DOC decreased with increasing humic content. However, although less available in humic lakes than in clearwater lakes, the higher abundance of high-MW DOC made it quantitatively more important as a bacterial substrate; i.e., a larger fraction of the total bacterial yield of the cultures was due to high-MW DOC compounds in humic lakes than in clearwater lakes. On the average, 48% of bacterial growth occurred at the expense of DOC of <10,000 MW. DOC of <1,000 MW was responsible for an average of 22% of bacterial growth, with no significant correlation to humic content and DOC concentration of lakes. The DOC which supports bacterial growth, as well as the total DOC, is of different quality in humic and clearwater lakes.  相似文献

SUMMARY 1. Biomass and production of picophytoplankton, phytoplankton and heterotrophic bacterioplankton were measured in seven lakes, exhibiting a broad range in water colour because of humic substances. The aim of the study was to identify environmental variables explaining the absolute and relative importance of picophytoplankton. In addition, two dystrophic lakes were fertilised with inorganic phosphorus and nitrogen, to test eventual nutrient limitation of picophytoplankton in these systems.
2. Picophytoplankton biomass and production were highest in lakes with low concentrations of dissolved organic carbon (DOC), and DOC proved the factor explaining most variation in picophytoplankton biomass and production. The relationship between picophytoplankton and lake trophy was negative, most likely because much P was bound in humic complexes. Picophytoplankton biomass decreased after the additions of P and N.
3. Compared with heterotrophic bacterioplankton, picophytoplankton were most successful at the clearwater end of the lake water colour gradient. Phytoplankton dominated over heterotrophic bacteria in the clearwater systems possibly because heterotrophic bacteria in such lakes are dependent on organic carbon produced by phytoplankton.
4. Compared with other phytoplankton, picophytoplankton did best at intermediate DOC concentrations; flagellates dominated in the humic lakes and large autotrophic phytoplankton in the clearwater lakes.
5. Picophytoplankton were not better competitors than large phytoplankton in situations when heterotrophic bacteria had access to a non-algal carbon source. Neither did their small size lead to picophytoplankton dominance over large phytoplankton in the clearwater lakes. Possible reasons include the ability of larger phytoplankton to float or swim to reduce sedimentation losses and to acquire nutrients by phagotrophy.  相似文献

Temporal and spatial changes of viral and bacterial abundance were examined in relation to environmental factors and hydrography at five stations between May 2000 and July 2001 in the brackish lake of Ganzirri (Sicily, Italy). Virioplankton abundance ranged from 5.26 × 104 to 7.54 × 108VLP ml–1 (on average 1.38 × 108particles ml–1) and was significantly higher at the three eutrophic stations located in the lake of Ganzirri (Stations 1, 2, and 3) than in the channel connecting the lake with the Straits of Messina. The virus-to-bacterium abundance ratio (VBR range, 0.4–117; average:14) showed the highest values in channel connecting the lake of Ganzirri with the meromictic lake of Faro. VBR values <1.0 were found in summer 2000 in relation with peculiar hydrographic constraints. Virioplankton distribution was dependent on salinity, and on dilution of the oligotrophic waters flowing from the Straits. Virioplankton was closely related with bacterioplankton indicating a close coupling between viruses and host cell abundance.  相似文献

We measured bacterioplankton (phylotypes detected by fluorescent in situ hybridisation, morphometric forms, abundance and production) in samples collected in summer in the littoral and pelagic zones of 10 subtropical shallow lakes of contrasting area (from 13 to 80,800 ha). Compared to the pelagic zones, the littoral zones were overall characterised by higher macrophyte dominance and lower concentrations of total phosphorus and alkalinity and higher concentrations of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and humic substances. Similarities of bacterial production and biomass turnover and density of active phylotypes and morphotype proportions were related to similarities in a set of environmental variables (including nutrients, humic substances content, predator density and phytoplankton biomass), and some additionally to lake area. Horizontal heterogeneity in bacterioplankton variables (littoral versus pelagic) increased with lake area. Bacterioplankton biomass and production tended to be lower in the littoral zone than in the pelagic zone despite higher concentrations of DOC and humic substances. A likely explanation is higher predation on bacterioplankton in the littoral zone, although allelophatic effects exerted by macrophytes cannot be excluded. Our results indicate that organic cycling via bacterioplankton may be less efficient in the littoral zone than in the pelagic zone of shallow lakes.  相似文献

We sampled the surface waters (2–50 m) of two deep peri-alpine lakes over a 1-year period in order to examine (1) the abundance, vertical distribution, genome size, and morphology structures of the virioplankton; (2) the virus-mediated bacterial mortality; and (3) the specific genome size range of double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) phytoplankton viruses. Virus-like particle (VLP) concentrations varied between 4.16?×?107 (January) and 2.08?×?108 part mL?1 (May) in Lake Bourget and between 2.7?×?107 (June) and 8.39?×?107 part mL?1 (November) in Lake Annecy. Our flow cytometry analysis revealed at least three viral groups (referred to as virus-like particles 1, 2, and 3) that exhibited distinctive dynamics suggestive of different host types. Phage-induced bacterial mortality varied between 6.1 % (June) and 33.2 % (October) in Lake Bourget and between 7.4 % (June) and 52.6 % (November) in Lake Annecy, suggesting that viral lysis may be a key cause of mortality of the bacterioplankton. Virioplankton genome size ranged from 27 to 486 kb in Lake Bourget, while it reached 620 kb in Lake Annecy for which larger genome sizes were recorded. Our analysis of pulsed field gel electrophoresis bands using different PCR primers targeting both cyanophages and algal viruses showed that (1) dsDNA viruses infecting phytoplankton may range from 65 to 486 kb, and (2) both cyanophage and algal “diversity” were higher in Lake Annecy. Lakes Annecy and Bourget also differed regarding the proportions of both viral families (with the dominance of myoviruses vs. podoviruses) and infected bacterial morphotypes (short rods vs. elongated rods), in each of these lakes, respectively. Overall, our results reveal that (1) viruses displayed distinct temporal and vertical distribution, dynamics, community structure in terms of genome size and morphology, and viral activity in the two lakes; (2) the Myoviridae seemed to be the main cause of bacterial mortality in both lakes and this group seemed to be related to VLP2; and (3) phytoplankton viruses may have a broader range of genome size than previously thought. This study adds to growing evidence that viruses are diverse and play a significant role in freshwater microbial dynamics and more globally lake functioning. It highlights the importance of further considering this biological compartment for a better understanding of plankton ecology in peri-alpine lakes.  相似文献

Flow cytometry (FCM) was used to assess microbial community abundances and patterns in three natural, large and deep peri-alpine hydrosystems, i.e., lakes Annecy (oligotrophic), Bourget, and Geneva (mesotrophic). Picocyanobacteria, small eukaryotic autotrophs, heterotrophic prokaryotes, and viruses were studied in the 0–50 m surface layers to highlight the impact of both physical and chemical parameters as well as possible biotic interactions on the functioning of microbial communities. Some specificities were recorded according to the trophic status of each ecosystem such as the higher number of viruses and heterotrophic bacteria in mesotrophic environments (i.e., Lakes Geneva and Bourget) or the higher abundance of picocyanobacteria in the oligotrophic Lake Annecy. However, both seasonal (temperature) and spatial (depth) variations were comparatively more important than the trophic status in driving the microbial communities’ abundances in these three lakes, as revealed by principal component analysis (PCA). A strong viral termination of the heterotrophic bacterial blooms could be observed in autumn for each lake, in parallel to the mixing of the upper lit layers. As virus to bacteria ratio (VBR) was indeed very high at this period with values varying between 87 and 114, such important relationships between viruses and bacteria were likely. The magnitudes of seasonal variations in VBR, with the highest values ever reported so far, were largely greater than the magnitude of theoretical variations due to the trophic status, suggesting also a strong seasonality in virioplankton production associated to prokaryotic dynamics. FCM analyses allowed discriminating several viral groups. Virus-Like Particles group 1 (VLP1) and group 2 (VLP2) were always observed and significantly correlated to bacteria for the former and chlorophyll a and picocyanobacteria for the latter, suggesting that most of VLP1 and VLP2 could be bacteriophages and cyanophages, respectively. On the basis of these results, new ways of investigation emerge concerning the study of relationships between specific picoplanktonic groups; and overall these results provide new evidence of the necessity to consider further viruses for a better understanding of lake plankton ecology. SUMMARY 1. The planktonic ciliate communities of eleven organically coloured north and central Florida lakes representing a variety of trophic conditions were examined during 1979–80. The total abundance and biomass of ciliates were not significantly different from comparable clearwater lakes and only minor taxonomic replacements were noted at the order level.
2. Timing of population peaks of oligotrophic lakes was dissimilar to clearwater lakes of the same trophic state, but seasonality in meso-trophic and eutrophic lakes resembled patterns described for comparable clearwater lakes.
3. Various ciliate components were strongly correlated with chlorophyll a concentrations, but only moderately correlated to dominant phytoplankton groups. No significant correlations were found between ciliate components and bacterial abundance.
4. Myxotrophic taxa numerically dominated oligotrophic systems, particularly during midsummer, and accounted for a large percentage of the total ciliate biomass. Estimates of the ciliate contribution to total autotrophic biomass indicate that these zoochlorellae-bearing protozoa may account for much of the autotrophic biomass during midsummer periods in coloured lakes, and thus may lead to an overestimation of phytoplankton standing crops available to zooplankton grazers if chlorophyll a is used as a surrogate measure of algal biomass.  相似文献

Estimations of bacterioplankton production and biomass werecarried out in enclosure experiments during two consecutiveyears (1989 and 1990) in oligotrophic clearwater Lake Njupfatet. The lake was limed in November 1989, and the experiments werecarried out both in 1989 (unlimed) and in 1990 (limed). Bags(3001) were manipulated with inorganic phosphorus and nitrogen, organic carbon, and metazoan zooplankton abundance. Both years, bacterial production was stimulated by inorganic nutrients aloneand in combination with organic carbon. However, the increasein bacterial production when inorganic nutrients were addedalone was much stronger in 1990 than in 1989. In 1989. bacterialproduction increased strongly only when inorganic nutrientsand organic carbon were added together. The phytoplankton communitywas dominated by the cyanobacterium Merismopedia tenuis-simaduring 1989, and the phytoplankton biomass increased only slightlywhen receiving inorganic nutrients. In 1990, when the lake hadbeen limed. M.tenuissima had completely disappeared and thephytoplankton community, dominated by Chrysophyceae and Chlorophyceae, responded strongly to additions of inorganic nutrients. Theincreased phytoplankton productivity in 1990 may have resultedin increased release of organic carbon, and this in turn thatthe carbon limitation of bacterioplankton production decreasedfrom 1989 to 1990. Zooplankton had a positive effect on bacterioplanktonproduction in 1989, but no effect in 1990. The loss of bacterialbiomass approximated 60% of the bacterial production in 1989,while in 1990 it almost equalled the bacterioplankton production.  相似文献

Bacterial utilization of dissolved organic matter (DOM) was studied in water from a humic and a clearwater oligotrophic lake. Indigenous bacteria were inoculated into either 0.2 m natural filtered lake water, or lake water enriched fivefold with colloidal DOM >100 kD but below 0.2 m. Consumption of DOM was followed from changes in concentrations of total dissolved organic carbon (DOC), dissolved combined and free carbohydrates and amino acids (DCCHO and DFCHO, and DCAA and DFAA, respectively) and by uptake of monosaccharide and amino acid radioisotopes. DCCHO and DCAA made up 8% (humic lake) to 33–44% (clear-water lake) of the natural DOC pools, while DFCHO and DFAA contributed at most 1.7% to the DOC pools. Addition of >100 kD DOM increased the DOC concentrations by 50% (clearwater lake) to 92% (humic lake), but it only resulted in a higher bacterial production (by 63%) in the humic lake. During the incubations 13 to 37% of the DOC was assimilated by the bacteria, at estimated growth efficiencies of 4–8%. Despite the measured reduction of DOC, statistically significant changes of specific organic compounds, especially of DCCHO and DCAA, generally did not occur. Probably the presence of high molecular weight DOC interfered with the applied analytical procedures. Addition of radiotracers indicated, however, that DFAA sustained 17–58% and 29–100% of the bacterial carbon and nitrogen requirements, respectively, and that glucose met 1–3% of the bacterial carbon requirements. Thus, our experiments indicate that radiotracers, rather than measurements of concentration changes, should be used in studies of bacterial utilization of DOC in freshwaters with a high content of humic or high molecular weight organic matter.  相似文献

Annual Patterns in Bacterioplankton Community Variability in a Humic Lake   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Bacterioplankton community composition (BCC) was monitored in a shallow humic lake in northern Wisconsin, USA, over 3 years using automated ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis (ARISA). Comparison of ARISA profiles of bacterial communities over time indicated that BCC was highly variable on a seasonal and annual scale. Nonmetric multidimensional scaling (MDS) analysis indicated little similarity in BCC from year to year. Nevertheless, annual patterns in bacterioplankton community diversity were observed. Trends in bacterioplankton community diversity were correlated to annual patterns in community succession observed for phytoplankton and zooplankton populations, consistent with the notion that food web interactions affect bacterioplankton community structure in this humic lake. Bacterioplankton communities experience a dramatic drop in richness and abundance each year in early summer, concurrent with an increase in the abundance of both mixotrophic and heterotrophic flagellates. A second drop in richness, but not abundance, is observed each year in late summer, coinciding with an intense bloom of the nonphagotrophic dinoflagellate Peridinium limbatum. A relationship between bacterial community composition, size, and abundance and the population dynamics of Daphnia was also observed. The noted synchrony between these major population and species shifts suggests that linkages across trophic levels play a role in determining the annual time course of events for the microbial and metazoan components of the plankton.  相似文献

Viruses in the plankton of freshwater and saline Antarctic lakes   总被引:8,自引:1,他引:7
1. Virus‐like particle (VLP) abundances in nine freshwater to saline lakes in the Vestfold Hills, Eastern Antarctica (68° S) were determined in December 1999. In the ultra‐oligotrophic to oligotrophic freshwater lakes, VLP abundances ranged from 1.01 to 3.28 × 106 mL–1 in the top 6 m of the water column. In the saline lakes the range was between 6.76 and 36.5 × 106 mL–1. The lowest value was found in meromictic Ace Lake and the highest value in hypersaline Lake Williams. Virus to bacteria ratios (VBR) were lowest in the freshwater lakes and highest in the saline lakes, with a maximum of 23.4 in the former and 50.3 in the latter. 2. A range of morphologies among VLP was observed, including phages with short (Podoviridae) and long tails, icosahedric viruses of up to 300 nm and star‐like particles of about 80 nm diameter. 3. In these microbially dominated ecosystems there was no correlation between VLP and either bacterial numbers or chlorophyll a. There was a significant correlation between VLP abundances and dissolved organic carbon concentration (r=0.845, P < 0.01). 4. The data suggested that viruses probably attack a spectrum of bacteria and protozoan species. Virus‐like particle numbers in the freshwater lakes were lower than values reported for lower latitude systems. Those in the saline lakes were comparable with abundances reported from other Antarctic lakes, and were higher than most values published for lower latitude lakes and many marine systems. Across the salinity spectrum from freshwater through brackish to hypersaline, VLP concentrations increased roughly in relation to increasing trophy. 5. Given that Antarctic lakes have a plankton almost entirely made up of bacteria and protists, and that VLP abundances are high, it is likely that viruses play a pivotal role in carbon cycling in these extreme ecosystems.  相似文献

Iron Constraints on Planktonic Primary Production in Oligotrophic Lakes   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Phototrophic primary production is a fundamental ecosystem process, and it is ultimately constrained by access to limiting nutrients. Whereas most research on nutrient limitation of lacustrine phytoplankton has focused on phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) limitation, there is growing evidence that iron (Fe) limitation may be more common than previously acknowledged. Here we show that P was the nutrient that stimulated phytoplankton primary production most strongly in seven out of nine bioassay experiments with natural lake water from oligotrophic clearwater lakes. However, Fe put constraints on phytoplankton production in eight lakes. In one of these lakes, Fe was the nutrient that stimulated primary production most, and concurrent P and Fe limitation was observed in seven lakes. The effect of Fe addition increased with decreasing lake water concentrations of total phosphorus and dissolved organic matter. Possible mechanisms are low import rates and low bioavailability of Fe in the absence of organic chelators. The experimental results were used to predict the relative strength of Fe, N, and P limitation in 659 oligotrophic clearwater lakes (with total phosphorus ≤ 0.2 μM P and total organic carbon < 6 mg C l−1) from a national lake survey. Fe was predicted to have a positive effect in 88% of these lakes, and to be the nutrient with the strongest effect in 30% of the lakes. In conclusion, Fe, along with P and N, is an important factor constraining primary production in oligotrophic clearwater lakes, which is a common lake-type throughout the northern biomes. This paper is dedicated to the memory of Prof. Peter Blomqvist (deceased 2004).

Based on the currently largest available dataset of phytoplankton in lakes in northern Europe, we quantified the responses of three major phytoplankton classes to eutrophication. Responses were quantified by modelling the proportional biovolumes of a given group along the eutrophication gradient, using generalized additive models. Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) was chosen as a proxy for eutrophication because all classes showed more consistent responses to Chl-a than to total phosphorus. Chrysophytes often dominate in (ultra-) oligotrophic lakes, and showed a clear decrease along the eutrophication gradient. Pennate diatoms were found to be most abundant at moderate eutrophication level (spring-samples). Cyanobacteria often dominate under eutrophic conditions, especially in clearwater lakes at Chl-a levels >10 μg l−1 (late summer samples). We compare the relationships among types of lakes, based on the lake typology of the northern geographic intercalibration group, and among countries sharing common lake types. Significant differences were found especially between humic and clearwater lakes, and between low- and moderately alkaline lakes, but we could not identify significant differences between shallow and deep lakes. Country-specific differences in response curves were especially pronounced between lakes in Norway and Finland, while Swedish lakes showed an intermediate pattern, indicating that country-specific differences reflect large-scale geographic and climatic differences in the study area.  相似文献

The influence of biotic and environmental variables on the abundance of virus-like particles (VLP) and lysogeny was investigated by examining 10 Antarctic lakes in the Vestfold Hills, Antarctica, in the Austral Spring. Abundances of viruses and bacteria and bacterial metabolic activity were estimated using SYBR Gold (Molecular Probes), Baclight (Molecular Probes) and 6-carboxy fluorescein diacetate (6CFDA). Total bacterial abundances among the lakes ranged between 0.12 and 0.47 x 10(9) cells L(-1). The proportion of intact bacteria (SYTO 9-stained cells) ranged from 13.5% to 83.5% of the total while active (6CFDA-stained) bacteria ranged from 33% to 116%. Lysogeny, as determined with Mitomycin C, was only detected in one of the lakes surveyed, indicating that viral replication was occurring predominantly via the lytic cycle. Principal component analysis and confirmatory correlation analysis of individual variables showed that high abundances of VLP occurred in lakes of high conductivity with high concentrations of soluble reactive phosphorus and dissolved organic carbon. These lakes supported high concentrations of chlorophyll a, intact bacteria, rates of bacterial production and virus to bacteria ratios. Thus, it was suggested that viral abundance in the Antarctic lakes was determined by the trophic status of the lake and the resultant abundance of intact bacterial hosts.  相似文献

Relationships between environmental factors and bacterial communities were investigated in 41 freshwater lakes located in mountainous regions of eastern Japan. Bacterioplankton community composition (BCC) was determined by polymerase chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis of the 16S rRNA gene and then evaluated on the basis of physicochemical and biological variables of the lakes. Canonical correspondence analysis revealed that BCC of oligotrophic lakes was significantly influenced by dissolved organic carbon (DOC) content, but its effect was not apparent in the analysis covering all lakes including mesotrophic and eutrophic ones. The generalized linear model showed the negative association of DOC on the taxon richness of bacterioplankton communities. DOC was positively correlated with the catchment area per lake volume, suggesting that a large fraction of DOC supplied to the lake was derived from terrestrial sources. These results suggest that allochthonous DOC has a significant effect on bacterioplankton communities especially in oligotrophic lakes. The genus Polynucleobacter was detected most frequently. The occurrence of Polynucleobacter species was positively associated with DOC and negatively associated with total phosphorus (TP) levels. In addition, TP had a stronger effect than DOC, suggesting that oligotrophy is the most important factor on the occurrence of this genus.  相似文献
