Previous studies have shown that tea consumption can impair trace element metabolism, particularly iron status, and increase the risk of anemia in humans and animals. More recently, however, evidence has been accumulating to show that, in animals, consumption of green tea or its polyphenols is associated with a reduction of the incidence and severity of a variety of experimentally induced cancers. In this study we have monitored the growth, trace element status, including hematological parameters of weanling rats given either (1) water, (2) 1% black tea, (3) 1% green, tea, or (4) 0.2% crude green tea extract as their sole drinking fluid while consuming diets containing either adequate or low amounts of iron. With the exception of manaanese, none of the trace elements studied (iron, copper, zinc, and manganese) or the hematological indices measured were affected by the type of beverage supplied, even though the polyphenol extract was shown to chelate metals in vitro and all the animals fed the low iron diet were shown to be anemic. There appeared to be an effect of black and green teas on manganese balance in, both the first and last weeks of the study. A lower level of brain managanese was associated with green tea consumption, and a higher level of this element in the kidneys of animals fed black tea. The results demonstrate that both black and green teas and a green tea polyphenol extract do not represent a risk to animals consuming the beverages as their sole fluid intake with respect to iron availability, although the interactions with manganese deserve further study.  相似文献

BackgroundHerbal teas are a good alternative to traditional green, black, red and white teas. Herbal teas infusions are also consumed for therapeutic purposes. Teas are the source of many valuable, biologically active compounds, including elements. Infusions drawn up from various teas may be one of the minerals sources in a daily diet. In the study, an attempt was made to assess infusions prepared from popular teas in terms of the content of elements in them.MethodsIn the work, the amounts of elements such as Ca (calcium), Cr (chromium), Cu (copper), Fe (iron), K (potassium), Mg (magnesium), Mn (manganese), Na (sodium), Ni (nickel) and Zn (zinc) were determined in herbal teas infusions as well as yerba mate and rooibos by atomic absorption spectrometry method (AAS). Their participation in covering the daily nutrient requirements for particular elements was also estimated.ResultsThe average amount (mg/g) of elements that passed from 1 g of teas to their infusions was following: Ca - 5.73 ± 3.33, K - 18.14 ± 9.50, Mg - 1.79 ± 3.47, Na - 1.34 ± 0.85, and (μg/g) for: Cr - 0.14 ± 0.14, Cu - 2.56 ± 1.53, Fe - 18.45 ± 11.90, Mn - 64.20 ± 88.82, Ni - 0.49 ± 0.30 and Zn - 10.77 ± 13.89. Among the tested teas, the infusions of hibiscus, horsetail, nettle, rooibos and yerba mate contained the largest quantities of minerals. A significant positive correlation was determined between the pH value of infusion and Mg content, as well as some pairs of correlating elements (Ca-K, Ca-Mg, Cr-Mg, Cu-Zn and K-Mg) were found in the analyzed brews.ConclusionsGenerally, the infusions of herbal teas to a small extent cover the daily allowance for elements, however they are a valuable complementary source of them.  相似文献

A 2-mo experiment with the white Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats was conducted to investigate the effect of the water extracts of black tea (BTWE) and green tea (GTWE) and the black tea leaves (BTF) and the green tea leaves (GTF) on the metabolism of mineral elements. One hundred eight 12-mo-old white SD rats were randomly divided into 13 groups; 6 of these drank the BTWE or GTWE in which the water extracts concentrations of black tea or green tea were, respectively, 0.6%, 1.2%, and 2.4%, and 6 of these had black tea leaves (BTF) and green tea leaves (GTF) added in which the contents of BTF or GTF were, respectively, 0.5%, 1.0%, and 2.0%, one of these was control. The teas and their water extracts could promote the absorption of manganese and copper. In GTF, BTF, GTWE, and BTWE, the apparent absorption rates of manganese were significantly increased. The manganese contents in the tibia were also elevated, and the differences between GTWE and GTF were significant. The apparent absorption rates of copper and the copper contents in the tibia were increased, but not significantly. The teas and their water extracts inhibited the absorption of calcium (p > 0.05) and iron (p < 0.05). The cerebrum calcium contents were significantly decreased, but the contents of calcium and iron in tibia were not significantly changed. Compared with the control, although the apparent absorption rates of aluminum in all experimental groups were not observed to be different, the aluminum contents in the tibia (p > 0.05) and cerebrum (p < 0.05) were increased. GTF and GTWE decreased the apparent absorption rates of zinc, but BTF and BTWE increased them; the zinc contents in tibia were a little improved, whereas its contents in the cerebrum were gradually decreased with the increase of tea leaves dose and tea concentration.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Total aluminum, arsenic, calcium, cadmium, iron, lead, potassium, magnesium, nickel and zinc were determined in black tea by electro thermal atomic absorption spectrometry after ultrasonic assisted pseudo-digestion with mixture of acid and oxidant. All the metals were also determined in the tea infusions in order to know the percentage of each element leached into the liquor. A conventional acid digestion on electric hot plate was used to obtain total metals under study for comparative purpose. Analytical results for Al, As, Ca, Cd, Fe, K, Mg, Ni, Pb and Zn obtained by ultrasound assisted pseudodigestion, and conventional wet digestion methods showed a good agreement, thus indicating the possibility of using ultrasonic assisted digestion sample preparation instead of intensive treatments inherent with the acid digestion methods on electric hot plate. The validity and accuracy of both procedures were checked by using certified sample of NIES No. 7 (Tea Leaves). Non significant differences were observed for P>0.05 when comparing the values obtained by both methods (paired t-test).

Principal component analysis (PCA) was applied in order to determine the different amount of metals as main sources of variability in the data sets and to establish the relation between samples (branded and nonbranded tea samples) and micronutrient, trace and toxic metals (variables). Hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) was used to explore the different branded and nonbranded tea samples grouping according to the essential and toxic metals as additional information to the out put obtained by PCA.  相似文献

Yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis), a widely consumed beverage in South America, contains various biochemically active substances, among them are several minerals. This paper reports on the results of a survey of trace elements in the yerba mate infusions. Three different commercially available trademarks of I. paraguariensis were evaluated, simulating the popular mode of preparation. Atomic absorption analyses for cadmium, lead, copper, zinc, aluminum, iron, chromium, manganese, molybdenum, and silver were performed using a graphite furnace. The levels ranged from 0.03 to 0.06?mg/L for copper, from 0.41 to 1.0?mg/L for zinc, from 0.32 to 1.7?mg/L for aluminum, from 0.12 to 0.23?mg/L for iron, from 2.3 to 7.0?mg/L for manganese, and from 0.01 to 0.03?mg/L for silver. The levels of chromium did not exceed 0.005?mg/L, while molybdenum, cadmium, and lead were lower than <0.01?mg/L. Metal content in mate tea infusions depends on a number of factors, some of which are controllable and others not, but the differences among various sources are admissible. Trace elements in mate plants seem to be weakly bounded to the substrate. The concentration of biometals does not exceed the limits accepted by Brazilian and international legislation when available.

In this study, we investigated the effects of Nigella sativa, vitamins C and E, and selenium on the levels of trace elements in the serum of N-methyl-N′-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG)-injected rabbits. The rabbits were separated into one control and three experimental groups, each consisting of eight rabbits. MNNG was administered to all rabbits at a dose of 20 mg/kg. Group A received a suspension of N. sativa, group B received a combination of vitamins C and E and selenium, and group C received MNNG without any additional treatment. Group D did not receive any treatment and acted as control. The concentrations of serum zinc, copper, and iron were determined for groups A, B, C, and D. The zinc levels were 155.3±25.8, 304.7±14.22, 117.2±27.9, and 87.0±8 μ/dL for groups A-D, respectively; copper was measured at 234.8±31.9, 214.3±14.2, 196.5±19.3, and 359.2±19.9 μ/dL and iron levels were 276.3±10.71, 260.8±7.15, 211.2±13.47, and 223.4±9.5 μ/dL, in the stated group order. There were statistically significant differences between groups (p<0.05). The results obtained in this work may be of use for monitoring and preventing the nocive effects of N-methyl-N′-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine and similar carcinogens.  相似文献

To assess the effect of concomitant iron and aluminum loads on bone aluminum accumulation and on the response to the deferoxamine test in rats with the same aluminum surcharge, Wistar rats with chronic renal failure were divided into three groups: iron-overloaded rats (N=6) (intraperitoneal iron); iron-depleted rats (N=6) (blood withdrawal two to three times per week); control rats (N=4) (no manipulation). All groups received intraperitoneal aluminum simultaneously. After 6 wk, a deferoxamine challenge test was performed. Thereafter, bone aluminum and iron were measured. The iron-overloaded rats showed higher bone iron content (iron overloaded: 147.7±55.4 μg/g; iron depleted: 7.9±1.0, and controls 13.3±9.9 μg/g, p<0.010) and lower bone aluminum content (iron overloaded: 14.2±4.0 μg/g; iron depleted: 70.9±35.1 μg/g; controls: 72.7±28.3 μg/g p<0.005). No differences were found between the iron-depleted and control rats. After the deferoxamine infusion, the iron-depleted rats tended to have higher serum aluminum increments (p=NS) and higher urinary aluminum excretion (p<0.012, p<0.020) than control rats despite similar amounts of aluminum in bone of the two groups. Aluminum bone accumulation was minor if iron and aluminum loads were given concomitantly. The iron depletion influenced the results of the deferoxamine challenge test in rats with similar bone aluminum burden.  相似文献

The reagent 9-fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl chloride (Fmoc-Cl) was used for the pre-column derivatization of the biogenic amines (BAs) cadaverine (Cad), histamine (Him), octopamine (Ocp), phenylethylamine (Pea), putrescine (Put), spermidine (Spd), spermine (Spm), tyramine (Tym) and the internal standard 1,6-diaminohexane (Dhx). The resulting Fmoc-derivatives were resolved by high-performance liquid chromatography on a Superspher? C18 column using a binary gradient generated from sodium acetate and acetonitrile. For quantification, the fluorescence of derivatives was used at 263?nm excitation and 313?nm emission wavelength. This approach was applied to free BAs extractable with boiling water from 14 black, 5 green, 1 Oolong, and 1 instant tea. Infusions were prepared by adding 35?ml boiling water to one gram of tea and extracted for 20?min. In the Oolong tea and two black teas, no BAs could be detected. Limits of detection were 0.07–1.0?pmol for BAs at signal-to-noise ratio 3:1. Besides most abundant Tym and Spm lower quantities of Pea, Put, and Spd were detected, albeit not in all teas. Quantities of Tym ranged from 16 to 431?μg Tym/L infusion (1.1–25.3?μgTym/g tea) and 31 to 319?μg Spm/L infusion (1.5–16.9?μg Spm/g tea). In none of the teas, Him was detected. Owing to the low amounts of free BAs in tea infusions, no health risks are to be expected even on consumption of large quantities of tea as beverage.  相似文献

This comparative study of the intestinal absorption of four toxic metals (aluminum, manganese, nickel, and lead) carried out in rats using the in situ intestinal perfusion technique was able to measure the partition of each metal between the intestine (intestinal retention), the blood circulation, and target tissues after 1 h. The perfused metal solutions were at concentrations likely to occur during oral intoxication. It was found that aluminum (48 and 64 mM), even as a citrate complex, crossed the brush border with difficulty (0.4% of the perfused amount); about 60% of this was retained in the intestine and the remainder was found in target tissues (about 36%). Conversely, lead (4.8–48 μM) penetrated the intestine more easily (about 35% of the perfused amount), was slightly retained (about 12% of the input), and was soon found in the tissues (about 58% of the input) and to a lesser degree in circulation (about 29%). Within the same concentration range, nickel and manganese showed certain similarities, such as a reduced crossing of the brush border proportional to the increase in the concentration perfused (0.17–9.5 mM). There was similar intestinal retention and absorption (about 80% and 20% of the input, respectively). Manganese crossed the brush border more easily and was diffused more rapidly into tissues. Finally, the addition of equimolar amounts of iron (4.7 mM) produced opposite effects on the absorption of the two elements, inhibiting manganese and showing a trend to increase in nickel absorption. This could be the result of competition between Fe2+ and Mn2+ for the same transcellular transporters and the slight predominance of paracellular mechanism in the event of “Fe2+-Ni2+” association.  相似文献

This article describes a study in which four trace elements (Se, Mn, Cu, and Fe) were analyzed in the blood serum of the patients with colorectal cancer from the Moravian region of the Czech Republic. Atomic absorption spectrometry with graphite furnace atomization was used for analysis of selenium and manganese and with flame atomization for analysis of copper and iron. The observed serum concentrations in adenocarcinoma colorectal patients of selenium were significantly lower (41.8 ± 11.6 μg/L) and those of manganese (16.3 ± 4.5 μg/L) and iron (2.89 ± 1.23 mg/L) were significantly higher as compared to the age-matched control group. Copper serum content (0.95 ± 0.28 mg/L) did not significantly differ as compared to healthy population.  相似文献

Urine levels of aluminum after drinking tea   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A microwave-assisted acid digestion procedure coupled with a graphite furnace atomic absorption method has been applied in the determination of aluminum (Al) in urine to verify the correlation of free forms of Al in tea infusions and urinary excretion of Al. Significant urinary Al excretion has been found in 24-h urine of four volunteers after tea drinking. However, the difference in amount of Al excretion in urine between the consumption of Oolong (black tea) and Long-Jin (green tea), each of them with unique Al contents and species, was not significant. These findings indicated that the high levels of free Al species in tea infusions did not result in significant change in urinary excretion of the metal, possibly owing to the transformation by ligands present in food and the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). However, it could not be assumed that there was no big difference in absorption of the metal in the human body if fractions of consumed Al retained in the body or excreted by bile or feces were considered.  相似文献

To detect the content of 12 heavy metals in blood and hair sample from a general population of Pearl River Delta area, and to analyze the influence of duration of residence, gender, age, smoking and drinking on the heavy metal content. Use inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry to detect the content of 12 heavy metals lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), aluminum (Al), arsenic (As), copper (Cu), chrome (Cr), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), zinc (Zn), tin (Sn) and antimony (Sb) in blood and hair samples of a total of 50 subjects from a general population, collected by multistage stratified cluster random sampling method. The geometric mean of heavy metal content in blood samples of general population (μg/L): blood aluminum 214.00; blood chrome 92.82; blood manganese 21.43; blood nickel 20.59; blood copper 0.67; blood zinc 11.50; blood arsenic 0.55; blood cadmium 2.45; blood tin 0.00; blood antimony 1.92; blood lead 158.84; and blood mercury 1.19. The geometric mean of heavy metal content in hair samples of general population (μg/g): hair aluminum is 84.65; hair chrome 0.00; hair manganese 2.44; hair nickel 0.61; hair copper 28.49; hair zinc 136.65; hair arsenic 0.75; hair cadmium 0.46; hair tin 1.04; hair antimony 0.05; hair lead 8.97; and hair mercury 0.69. Some heavy metals were correlated with duration of residence, gender, age, smoking and drinking. This was the first time that simultaneously detecting heavy metal content in blood and hair was used to analyze the internal heavy metal burden in resident population of Pearl River Delta area. These data can serve as reference for further research.  相似文献

The metal contents of eleven black tea samples, four cultivated in Iran and seven imported, and their tea infusions were determined. Twelve elements consisting toxic metals (Al, As, Pb, Cr, Cd, and Ni) and essential mineral elements (Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, Ca, and Mg) were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). Al, Ca, Mg, and Mn ranged in black tea leaves at mg g−1 levels, while Cr, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn were at μg g−1 levels. Analysis of variance showed no statistically significant differences among most elements determined in cultivated and imported black teas in Iran except for Ni and Cu. The extraction efficiency of each element into tea infusions was evaluated. The solubility of measured metals in infusion extracts varied widely and ranged from 0 to 59.3%. Among the studied elements, Cr, Pb, and Cd showed the lowest rates of solubility and Ni had the highest rates of solubility. The amount of toxic metals and essential mineral elements that one may take up through consumption of black tea infusion was estimated. The amount of realizing each element into tea infusions and acceptable daily intake, for safety consumption of black tea, was compared.  相似文献

In two fully-crossed, three-way, two-by-three-by-three, factorially arranged experiments, female weanling rats were fed a basal diet supplemented with iron at 15 and 45 μg/g, nickel at 0, 5, and 50 μg/g, and copper at either 0, 0.5, and 5 μ/g (Expt. 1) or 0, 0.25, and 12 μg/g (Expt. 2) A gram of basal diet contained in Expt. 1 approximately 16 ng of nickel, 2.3 μg of iron, and 0.47 μg of copper; and in Expt. 2, 20 ng of nickel, 1.3 μg of iron, and 0.39 μg of copper. Expt. 1 was terminated at 11 weeks, and Expt. 2 at 8 weeks because, at those times, some rats fed no supplemental copper and the high level of nickel began to lose weight, or die from heart rupture. The findings demonstrated that relationships are complex among nickel, copper, and iron. Nickel interacted with copper and this interaction was influenced by dietary iron. Signs of copper deficiency were more severe when nickel was supplemented to the diet provided that copper deprivation was neither very severe nor mild. Iron deprivation apparently enhanced the antagonism by exacerbating copper deficiency. Signs of copper deficiency that were made more severe by nickel supplementation were depressed weight gain (Expt. 2), hematocrit (Expt. 1), hemoglobin, and plasma alkaline phosphatase activity; and elevated ratios of heart wt/body wt, kidney wt/body wt, and liver wt/body wt. Because nickel and copper have similar physical and chemical properties, the interactions between those two elements were probably the result, of isomorphous replacement of copper by nickel at various functional sites that interfered with some biological processes.  相似文献

Element contents and radical scavenging activity in commercial Yerba mate tea blends from Paraguay and Argentina were determined. The potential health risk for the consumers was also calculated. Element contents in Yerba mate was arranged as follows: K > Ca > Mg > Mn > Fe > Zn > Na > Cu > Ni > Cr > Pb > Cd (leaves and stalks) and K > Mg > Mn > Ca > Zn > Na > Fe > Cu > Ni > Cr > Pb > Cd (infusion). In total 73% of K, 69% of Mn, 15% of Ni and Cu, 9% of Cr, 8% of Zn, 7% of Mg, 6% of Pb, 3% of Na, 2% of Cd, 0.34% of Ca, and 0.13% of Fe were extracted from leaves and stalks to the brew. Yerba mate tea was characterized by very high antioxidant activity. Argentinean Yerba mate had slightly higher antioxidant activity than Paraguayan. The combined non-carcinogenic effect (HI values) for each infusion and for all three infusion were below 1, which indicated that daily consumption of Yerba mate tea infusions did not cause essential non-carcinogenic health risk. The daily consumption of Yerba mate infusions provided necessary elements in the amounts significantly below 1% of the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) daily intake. The exception was amount of Mn in I infusion from the despalada kind of Yerba mate, which was equal to 1.43% of RDA for men and 1.82% of RDA for women.  相似文献

The Fe bioavailability and the weight gains were evaluated in rats fed a commonly consumed Tunisian meal 'bean seeds ragout' (BSR), with or without beef and with black or green tea decoction. The Fe bioavailability was evaluated in Fe-deficient rats by the hemoglobin repletion method and the Fe stored in the liver. The addition of beef to the BSR significantly increased the Fe bioavailability from this meal by 147% and the reserve of Fe stored in the liver by 77% (P < 0.001). In contrast, both black and green tea decoctions caused a significant decrease of the Fe bioavailability from BSR meal (-19.6 +/- 4.9% and -14.9 +/- 4.1%, respectively). The reserve of Fe stored in the liver was significantly lower in the BSR, the black and the green tea groups than in the positive control group (FeSO4). The weight gains were significantly lower in the black and the green tea groups (3.9 +/- 5.7 g, 13 +/- 1.9 g, respectively) than in the BSR group (24.9 +/- 6 g). The addition of beef to BSR meal counteracted the inhibitory effect of the kidney bean and considerably improved the Fe bioavailability and the Fe stored in the liver of rats. The green tea decoction, which constitutes an important source of antioxidant factors, had the same inhibitory effect as the black tea decoction on the Fe bioavailability from BSR meal. In addition, both black and green teas significantly reduced the weight gains, where the black tea decoction has the most effect.  相似文献

Cultures ofStreptomyces tendae andPenicillium expansum grown on Actinomyces and Czapek's media, respectively, were exposed to 5 mg L–1 of manganese, magnesium, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper and zinc, supplied as sulfate salts. Only copper markedly increased geosmin (1, 10-dimethyl-9-decalol), biomass, and spore production. inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometric analysis ofS. tendae andP. expansum cells did not indicate an accumulation of copper. Both 1 and 5 mg L–1 copper, as copper sulfate, increased total geosmin production in cultures ofS. tendae on several media, but decreased production on others, suggesting that substrate composition affects responses to copper.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to determine the concentrations of macronutrients and the mineral and trace element composition in maternal milk of Japanese women. We collected human milk samples from mothers living throughout Japan from December 1998 to September 1999, and defined as group A the 1197 samples among them that met the following conditions: breast milk of mothers who were under 40 years old, not in the habit of smoking and/or using vitamin supplements, and whose babies showed no symptoms of atopy and whose birth weights were 2.5 kg or more. We then analyzed their contents individually. We also analyzed the amino acid and free amino acid composition of the breast milk of pooled samples from various lactation stages. Large differences were found to exist among the contents of individual human milk samples. The mean contents of each component were as follows: energy, 66.3+/-13.3 kcal/100 mL; solid matter, 12.46+/-1.56 g/100 mL; ash, 0.19+/-0.06 g/100 mL; total nitrogen, 0.19+/-0.04 g/100 mL; lipids, 3.46+/-1.49 g/100 mL; carbohydrates, 7.58+/-0.77 g/100 mL; lactose, 6.44+/-0.49 g/100 mL; pH, 6.5+/-0.3; osmotic pressure, 299+/-14 mOsm/kg.H2O; chloride, 35.9+/-16.2 mg/100 mL; sodium, 13.5+/-8.7 mg/100 mL; magnesium, 2.7+/-0.9 mg/100 mL; phosphorus, 15.0+/-3.8 mg/100 mL; potassium, 47.0+/-12.1 mg/100 mL; calcium, 25.0+/-7.1 mg/100 mL; chromium, 5.9+/-4.7 microg/100 mL; manganese, 1.1+/-2.3 microg/100mL; iron, 119+/-251 microg/100 mL; copper, 35+/-21 microg/100 mL; zinc, 145+/-135 microg/100 mL; and selenium, 1.7+/-0.6 microg/100 mL. The content of each component varied greatly as the duration of lactation increased. In conclusion, it appears to be necessary to evaluate individual differences of human milk in order to perform valid research regarding infant formula.  相似文献

Mounting evidence shows that phenol-rich beverages exert strong antioxidant activity. However, in vivo evidence has produced conflicting results. In the present study, we studied the impact of the ingestion of 300 mL of black and green tea, alcohol-free red wine, alcohol-free white wine, or water on plasma total antioxidant capacity in five healthy volunteers. Red wine has the highest content of phenolics (3.63 +/- 0.48 g QE/L), followed by green tea (2.82 +/- 0.07 g QE/L), black tea (1.37 +/- 0.15 g QE/L), and white wine (0.31 +/- 0.01 g QE/L). Plasma total antioxidant capacity values of subjects who drank green tea rose at 30 min (P < 0.05). After black tea and red wine ingestion, the peaks were at 50 min (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01, respectively). No changes were observed in the control and white wine groups. Red wine and green tea were the most efficient in protecting low density lipoprotein from oxidation driven by peroxyl and ferril radicals, respectively. Phenol-rich beverages are a natural source of antioxidants; however, the phenolic content alone cannot be considered an index of their in vivo antioxidant activity.  相似文献
