Polymer solar cells (PSCs) are fabricated without solvent additives using a low‐bandgap polymer, PBDTTT‐C‐T, as the donor and [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric‐acid‐methyl‐ester (PC61BM) as the acceptor. Donor‐acceptor blend and layer‐by‐layer (LL) solution process are used to form active layers. Relative to the blend devices, the LL devices exhibit stronger absorption, better vertical phase separation, higher hole and electron mobilities, and better charge extraction at correct electrodes. As a result, after thermal annealing the LL devices exhibit an average power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 6.86%, which is much higher than that of the blend devices (4.31%). The best PCE of the LL devices is 7.13%, which is the highest reported for LL processed PSCs and among the highest reported for PC61BM‐based single‐junction PSCs.  相似文献

A new weak electron‐deficient building block, bis(2‐ethylhexyl) 2,5‐bis(5‐bromothiophen‐2‐yl) thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene‐3,6‐dicarboxylate ( TT‐Th ), is incorporated to construct a wide‐bandgap (1.88 eV) polymer PBDT‐TT for nonfullerene polymer solar cells (NF‐PSCs). PBDT‐TT possesses suitable energy levels and complementary absorption when blended with both ITIC analogues ( ITIC and IT‐M ) and a near‐infrared (NIR) acceptor ( 6TIC ). Moreover, PBDT‐TT exhibits good conjugated planarity and preferable face‐on orientation in the blended thin film, which are beneficial for charge transfer and carrier transport. The PSCs based on PBDT‐TT : IT‐M and PBDT‐TT : 6TIC blend films yield high power conversion efficiencies of 11.38% and 11.03%, respectively. To the best of the authors' knowledge, the PCE of 11.03% for PBDT‐TT : 6TIC‐ based device is one of the highest values reported for NIR NF‐PSCs. This work demonstrates that TT‐Th is a useful new electron‐accepting building block for making p‐type wide bandgap polymers for efficient NIR NF‐PSCs.  相似文献

A wide‐bandgap polymer, (poly[(2,6‐(4,8‐bis(5‐(2‐ethylhexyl)thiophen‐2‐yl)‐benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene))‐alt‐(2,5‐(methyl thiophene carboxylate))]) (3MT‐Th), is synthesized to obtain a complementary broad range absorption when harmonized with 3,9‐bis(2‐methylene‐(3‐(1,1‐dicyanomethylene)‐indanone))‐5,5,11,11‐tetrakis(4‐hexylphenyl)‐dithieno[2,3‐d:2′,3′‐d′]‐s‐indaceno[1,2‐b:5,6‐b′]dithiophene (ITIC). The synthesized regiorandom 3MT‐Th polymer shows good solubility in nonhalogenated solvents. A film of 3MT‐Th:ITIC can be employed for forming an active layer in a polymer solar cell (PSC), with the blend solution containing toluene with 0.25% diphenylether as a nonhalogenated additive. The corresponding PSC devices display a power conversion efficiency of 9.73%. Moreover, the 3MT‐Th‐based PSCs exhibit excellent shelf‐life time of over 1000 h and are operationally stable under continuous light illumination. Therefore, methyl thiophene‐3‐carboxylate in 3MT‐Th is a promising new accepting unit for constructing p‐type polymers used for high‐performance nonfullerene‐type PSCs.  相似文献

In this contribution, a versatile building block, 3,4‐dicyanothiophene (DCT), which possesses structural simplicity and synthetic accessibility for constructing high‐performance, low‐cost, wide‐bandgap conjugated polymers for use as donors in polymer solar cells (PSCs), is reported. A prototype polymer, PB3TCN‐C66, and its cyano‐free analogue polymer PB3T‐C66, are synthesized to evaluate the potential of using DCT in nonfullerene PSCs. A stronger aggregation property in solution, higher thermal transition temperatures with higher enthalpies, a larger dipole moment, higher relative dielectric constant, and more linear conformation are exhibited by PB3TCN‐C66. Solar cells employing IT‐4F as the electron acceptor offer power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 11.2% and 2.3% for PB3TCN‐C66 and PB3T‐C66, respectively. Morphological characterizations reveal that the PB3TCN‐C66:IT‐4F blend exhibits better π–π paracrystallinity, a contracted domain size, and higher phase purity, consistent with its higher molecular interaction parameter, derived from thermodynamic calculations. Moreover, PB3TCN‐C66 offers a higher open‐circuit voltage and reduced energy loss than most state‐of‐the‐art wide‐bandgap polymers, without the need of additional electron‐withdrawing substituents. Two additional polymers derived from DCT also demonstrate promising performance with a higher PCE of 13.4% being achieved. Thus, DCT represents a versatile and promising building block for constructing high‐performance, low‐cost, conjugated polymers for application in PSCs.  相似文献

This study demonstrates high‐performance, ternary‐blend polymer solar cells by modifying a binary blend bulk heterojunction (PPDT2FBT:PC71BM) with the addition of a ternary component, PPDT2CNBT. PPDT2CNBT is designed to have complementary absorption and deeper frontier energy levels compared to PPDT2FBT, while being based on the same polymeric backbone. A power conversion efficiency of 9.46% is achieved via improvements in both short‐circuit current density (JSC) and open‐circuit voltage (VOC). Interestingly, the VOC increases with increasing the PPDT2CNBT content in ternary blends. In‐depth studies using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy and transient absorption spectroscopy indicate that the two polymers are not electronically homogeneous and function as discrete light harvesting species. The structural similarity between PPDT2CNBT and PPDT2FBT allows the merits of a ternary system to be fully utilized to enhance both JSC and VOC without detriment to fill‐factor via minimized disruption of semi‐crystalline morphology of binary PPDT2FBT:PC71BM blend. Further, by careful analysis, charge carrier transport in this ternary blend is clearly verified to follow parallel‐like behavior.  相似文献

A terthieno[3,2‐b]thiophene ( 6T ) based fused‐ring low bandgap electron acceptor, 6TIC , is designed and synthesized for highly efficient nonfullerene solar cells. The chemical, optical, and physical properties, device characteristics, and film morphology of 6TIC are intensively studied. 6TIC shows a narrow bandgap with band edge reaching 905 nm due to the electron‐rich π‐conjugated 6T core and reduced resonance stabilization energy. The rigid, π‐conjugated 6T also offers lower reorganization energy to facilitate very low VOC loss in the 6TIC system. The analysis of film morphology shows that PTB7‐Th and 6TIC can form crystalline domains and a bicontinuous network. These domains are enlarged when thermal annealing is applied. Consequently, the device based on PTB7‐Th : 6TIC exhibits a high power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 11.07% with a high JSC > 20 mA cm?2 and a high VOC of 0.83 V with a relatively low VOC loss (≈0.55 V). Moreover, a semitransparent solar cell based on PTB7‐Th : 6TIC exhibits a relatively high PCE (7.62%). The device can have combined high PCE and high JSC is quite rare for organic solar cells.  相似文献

Additives are known to improve the performance of organic photovoltaic devices based on mixtures of a low bandgap polymer, poly[2,6‐(4,4‐bis(2‐ethylhexyl)‐4H‐cyclopenta[2,1‐b;3,4‐b′]‐dithiophene)‐alt‐4,7‐(2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole)] (PCPDTBT) and [6,6]‐phenyl C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM). The evolution of the morphology during the evaporation of the mixed solvent, which comprises additive and chlorobenzene (CB), is investigated by in‐situ grazing incidence X‐ray scattering, providing insight into the key role the additive plays in developing a multi‐length‐scale morphology. Provided the additive has a higher vapor pressure and a selective solubility for PCBM, as the host solvent (CB) evaporates, the mixture of the primary solvent and additive becomes less favorable for the PCPDTBT, while completely solubilizing the PCBM. During this process, the PCPDTBT first crystallizes into fibrils and then the PCBM, along with the remaining PCPDTBT, is deposited, forming a phase‐separated morphology comprising domains of pure, crystalline PCPDTBT fibrils and another domain that is a PCBM‐rich mixture with amorphous PCPDTBT. X‐ray/neutron scattering and diffraction methods, in combination with UV–vis absorption spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy, are used to determine the crystallinity and phase separation of the resultant PCPDTBT/PCBM thin films processed with or without additives. Additional thermal annealing is carried out and found to change the packing of the PCPDTBT. The two factors, degree of crystallinity and degree of phase separation, control the multi‐length‐scale morphology of the thin films and significantly influence device performance.  相似文献

Semi‐transparent (ST) organic solar cells with potential application as power generating windows are studied. The main challenge is to find proper transparent electrodes with desired electrical and optical properties. In this work, this is addressed by employing an amphiphilic conjugated polymer PFPA‐1 modified ITO coated glass substrate as the ohmic electron‐collecting cathode and PEDOT:PSS PH1000 as the hole‐collecting anode. For active layers based on different donor polymers, considerably lower reflection and parasitic absorption are found in the ST solar cells as compared to solar cells in the standard geometry with an ITO/PEDOT:PSS anode and a LiF/Al cathode. The ST solar cells have remarkably high internal quantum efficiency at short circuit condition (~90%) and high transmittance (~50%). Hence, efficient ST tandem solar cells with enhanced power conversion efficiency (PCE) compared to a single ST solar cell can be constructed by connecting the stacked two ST sub‐cells in parallel. The total loss of photons by reflection, parasitic absorption and transmission in the ST tandem solar cell can be smaller than the loss in a standard solar cell based on the same active materials. We demonstrate this by stacking five separately prepared ST cells on top of each other, to obtain a higher photocurrent than in an optimized standard solar cell.  相似文献

A variety of measurement techniques including photothermal deflection spectroscopy (PDS), auger electron spectroscopy (AES), (sub–bandgap) external quantum efficiency (EQE), and impedance spectroscopy are applied to poly[N‐900‐hepta‐decanyl‐2,7‐carbazole‐alt‐5,5‐(40,70‐di‐2‐thienyl‐20,10,30‐benzothiadiazole (PCDTBT)/[6,6]‐phenyl C71 butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) films and devices to probe the stability under thermal annealing. Upon annealing, solar cell performance is drastically decreased for temperatures higher than 140 °C. Detailed investigation indicate changes in polymer:fullerene interactions resulting in the formation of a polymer wetting layer upon annealing at temperatures higher than 140 °C. Upon device completion this wetting layer is located close to the metal electrode and therefore leads to an increase in recombination and a decrease in charge carrier extraction, providing an explanation for the reduced fill factor (FF) and power conversion efficiency (PCE).  相似文献

An original set of experimental and modeling tools is used to quantify the yield of each of the physical processes leading to photocurrent generation in organic bulk heterojunction solar cells, enabling evaluation of materials and processing condition beyond the trivial comparison of device performances. Transient absorption spectroscopy, “the” technique to monitor all intermediate states over the entire relevant timescale, is combined with time‐delayed collection field experiments, transfer matrix simulations, spectral deconvolution, and parametrization of the charge carrier recombination by a two‐pool model, allowing quantification of densities of excitons and charges and extrapolation of their kinetics to device‐relevant conditions. Photon absorption, charge transfer, charge separation, and charge extraction are all quantified for two recently developed wide‐bandgap donor polymers: poly(4,8‐bis((2‐ethylhexyl)oxy)benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene‐3,4‐difluorothiophene) (PBDT[2F]T) and its nonfluorinated counterpart poly(4,8‐bis((2‐ethylhexyl)oxy)benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene‐3,4‐thiophene) (PBDT[2H]T) combined with PC71BM in bulk heterojunctions. The product of these yields is shown to agree well with the devices' external quantum efficiency. This methodology elucidates in the specific case studied here the origin of improved photocurrents obtained when using PBDT[2F]T instead of PBDT[2H]T as well as upon using solvent additives. Furthermore, a higher charge transfer (CT)‐state energy is shown to lead to significantly lower energy losses (resulting in higher VOC) during charge generation compared to P3HT:PCBM.  相似文献

Poly(benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene–alt–thieno[3,4‐c]pyrrole‐4,6‐dione) (PBDTTPD) polymer donors with linear side‐chains yield bulk‐heterojunction (BHJ) solar cell power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of about 4% with phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) as the acceptor, while a PBDTTPD polymer with a combination of branched and linear substituents yields a doubling of the PCE to 8%. Using transient optical spectroscopy it is shown that while the exciton dissociation and ultrafast charge generation steps are not strongly affected by the side chain modifications, the polymer with branched side chains exhibits a decreased rate of nongeminate recombination and a lower fraction of sub‐nanosecond geminate recombination. In turn the yield of long‐lived charge carriers increases, resulting in a 33% increase in short circuit current (J sc). In parallel, the two polymers show distinct grazing incidence X‐ray scattering spectra indicative of the presence of stacks with different orientation patterns in optimized thin‐film BHJ devices. Independent of the packing pattern the spectroscopic data also reveals the existence of polymer aggregates in the pristine polymer films as well as in both blends which trap excitons and hinder their dissociation.  相似文献

The charge generation and recombination dynamics in polymer/polymer blend solar cells composed of poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT, electron donor) and poly[2,7‐(9,9‐didodecylfluorene)‐alt‐5,5‐(4′,7′‐bis(2‐thienyl)‐2′,1′,3′‐benzothiadiazole)] (PF12TBT, electron acceptor) are studied by transient absorption measurements. In the unannealed blend film, charge carriers are efficiently generated from polymer excitons, but some of them recombine geminately. In the blend film annealed at 160 °C, on the other hand, the geminate recombination loss is suppressed and hence free carrier generation efficiency increases up to 74%. These findings suggest that P3HT and PF12TBT are intermixed within a few nanometers, resulting in impure PF12TBT and disordered P3HT domains. The geminate recombination is likely due to charge carriers generated on isolated polymer chains in the matrix of the other polymer and at the domain interface with disordered P3HT. The undesired charge loss by geminate recombination is reduced by both the purification of the PF12TBT‐rich domain and crystallization of the P3HT chains. These results show that efficient free carrier generation is not inherent to the polymer/fullerene domain interface, but is possible with polymer/polymer systems composed of crystalline donor and amorphous acceptor polymers, opening up a new potential method for the improvement of solar cell materials.  相似文献

A novel molecular‐ink deposition route based on thiourea and N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF) that results in a certified solar cell efficiency world record for non‐vacuum deposited CuIn(S,Se)2 (CIS) absorbers and non‐vacuum deposited absorbers with a bandgap of 1.0 eV, is presented. It is found that by substituting the widely employed solvent dimethyl sulfoxide with DMF, the coordination chemistry of InCl3 could be altered, dramatically improving ink stability, enabling up to tenfold increased concentrations, omitting the necessity for elevated ink temperatures, and radically accelerating the deposition process. Furthermore, it is shown that by introducing compositionally graded precursor films, film porosity, compositional gradients, and the surface roughness of the absorbers are effectively reduced and device conversion efficiencies are increased up to 13.8% (13.1% certified, active area). The reduced roughness is also seen as crucial to realize monolithically interconnected CIS‐perovskite tandem devices, where semitransparent MAPbI3 devices are directly deposited on the CIS bottom cell. Confirming the feasibility of this approach, monolithic devices with near perfect voltage addition between subcells of up to 1.40 V are presented.  相似文献

To advance polymer solar cells (PSCs) toward real‐world applications, it is crucial to develop materials that are compatible with a low‐cost large‐scale manufacturing technology. In this context, a practically useful polymer should fulfill several critical requirements: the capability to provide high power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) via low‐cost fabrication using environmentally friendly solvents under mild thermal conditions, resulting in an active layer that is thick enough to minimize defects in large‐area films. Here, the development of new photovoltaic polymers is reported through rational molecular design to meet these requirements. Benzodithiophene (BDT)‐difluorobenzoxadiazole (ffBX)‐2‐decyltetradecyl (DT), a wide‐bandgap polymer based on ffBX and BDT emerges as the first example that fulfills the qualifications. When blended with a low‐cost acceptor (C60‐fullerene derivative), BDT‐ffBX‐DT produces a PCE of 9.4% at active layer thickness over 250 nm. BDT‐ffBX‐DT devices can be fabricated from nonhalogenated solvents at low processing temperature. The success of BDT‐ffBX‐DT originates from its appropriate electronic structure and charge transport characteristics, in combination with a favorable face‐on orientation of the polymer backbone in blends, and the ability to form proper phase separation morphology with a fibrillar bicontinuous interpenetrating network in bulk‐heterojunction films. With these characteristics, BDT‐ffBX‐DT represents a meaningful step toward future everyday applications of polymer solar cells.  相似文献

To explore the advantages of emerging all‐polymer solar cells (all‐PSCs), growing efforts have been devoted to developing matched donor and acceptor polymers to outperform fullerene‐based PSCs. In this work, a detailed characterization and comparison of all‐PSCs using a set of donor and acceptor polymers with both conventional and inverted device structures is performed. A simple method to quantify the actual composition and light harvesting contributions from the individual donor and acceptor is described. Detailed study on the exciton dissociation and charge recombination is carried out by a set of measurements to understand the photocurrent loss. It is unraveled that fine‐tuned crystallinity of the acceptor, matched donor and acceptor with complementary absorption and desired energy levels, and device architecture engineering can synergistically boost the performance of all‐PSCs. As expected, the PBDTTS‐FTAZ:PNDI‐T10 all‐PSC attains a high and stable power conversion efficiency of 6.9% without obvious efficiency decay in 60 d. This work demonstrates that PNDI‐T10 can be a potential alternative acceptor polymer to the widely used acceptor N2200 for high‐performance and stable all‐PSCs.  相似文献
