School-based management, or local school control, is an organizational school reform effort aimed at decentralizing school decision-making that has become prevalent in districts throughout the United States. Using the groundbreaking Chicago system of local school control as an exemplar, this article outlines the implications of such reform efforts for arts education, especially in a time of increasing centralization at the level of federal education policy. Following a brief examination of Chicago's path to school-based management and its impact on the district's arts programs, this article describes both the challenges and the opportunities that such reforms may provide for arts education. 相似文献

Artificial intelligence is currently achieving impressive success in all fields.However,autonomous navigation remains a major challenge for AI.Reinforcement learning is used for target navigation to simulate the interaction between the brain and the environment at the behavioral level,but the Artificial Neural Network trained by reinforcement learning cannot match the autonomous mobility of humans and animals.The hippocampus-striatum circuits are considered as key circuits for target navigation planning and decision-making.This paper aims to construct a bionic navigation model of reinforcement learning corresponding to the nervous system to improve the autonomous navigation performance of the robot.The ventral striatum is considered to be the behavioral evaluation region,and the hippocampal-striatum circuit constitutes the position-reward association.In this paper,a set of episode cognition and reinforcement learning system simulating the mechanism of hip-pocampus and ventral striatum is constructed,which is used to provide target guidance for the robot to perform autonomous tasks.Compared with traditional methods,this system reflects the high efficiency of learning and better Environmental Adaptability.Our research is an exploration of the intersection and fusion of artificial intelligence and neuroscience,which is conducive to the development of artificial intelligence and the understanding of the nervous system. 相似文献

Changes in education policy—particularly at the federal and state levels—during the current era of ideologically and profit-driven “education reform” threaten balanced education in general and music/arts education in particular. Emerging answers to a number of pivotal questions will determine the future of the arts, arts education, and public education in general. Music educators and other advocates of quality arts education must not only adapt their curricula and instructional practices to reach students in a twenty-first century context, but also develop effective communications systems and organize coalitions powerful enough to influence policymakers and thereby shape policies supportive of quality music/arts education. Recent advocacy efforts by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) provide examples of how supporters of arts education might accomplish these goals. 相似文献

Curriculum integration can increase the presence of science at the elementary level. The purpose of this article is to share how two second-grade teachers have integrated language arts content as a part of science-language arts instruction in a garden-based learning context. One application was a teacher-designed Gardening for Homonyms lesson, which supported new ways of thinking about words and wordplay while developing science vocabulary related to structure and function, diversity of life, and interdependent relationships in ecosystems. This article provides the lesson and discusses its implementation in two second-grade classrooms. Examples of student work illustrate children's creative thought around and application of multiple meaning words. Pre-, post-, and extended posttest measures of students' ability to generate and to use homonyms demonstrate that this science-language arts integrated lesson can result in both short- and long-term learning. Applications and follow-up from the lesson over two subsequent years have engaged second and third grade students in study/inquiry about plant growth and life cycles while utilizing many facets of language arts, which have ranged from labeling an experimental design and writing predictions and results to conversing about digital “GigaPan” images on growing strawberries. 相似文献

This article examines the history of art education in Turkey. Since the beginning, the purposes of the arts and art education have been a point of discussion by various authorities. Whether art education should be taught, and how it needs to be taught, have been at the forefront of educationalists' minds. As a result, introducing certain models of art education has been a challenge. The objective of this article is to present the changes in art education since the 19th century in Turkey. The main focus is on art education practices and policies and an overview of key events in Turkey's history of art education. The article also presents issues related to the importance of visual arts education in Turkish primary school settings. This article explores the process of using lessons learned about high quality, effective arts education programs to help local educational leaders and practitioners create their own policy statements. It raises questions about policy implications from those lessons and connects them to the readers'own experience. It provides an intellectual framework and an action agenda for developing local policy at the classroom, school, or district level that supports high quality arts education for every student. It argues that effective arts education programs must be supported by responsive policy and ongoing tax levy funds to have a greater chance for providing quality arts teaching and learning that endures. 相似文献

This longitudinal study (2001–09) of two Hong Kong secondary schools highlights six issues with an integrated arts curriculum: first, integration of knowledge and skills negatively precedes the integration of learners’ construction of meaning; second, integration is perceived as challenging the profession's status; third, teachers are unaccustomed to co-teaching; fourth, teachers have little prior experience conceptualizing cross-discipline teaching and learning; fifth, Hong Kong's current systemwide education reform places arts integration as a relatively low priority; and sixth, because integrated arts curriculum implementation is not mandatory, the vagaries of individual school management create a plethora of integration approaches that confound the task of forging a common definition. Remedial recommendations include cascading “seed projects” to broaden teachers’ views of integrated arts and teaching, facilitating supportive school timetabling, and sharing integrated learning outcomes in the individual schools. 相似文献

More than 98 percent of children in Finland attend preschool, where different kinds of projects are carried out in order to strengthen the children's abilities. This article focuses on the effects of one arts education project from a school readiness point of view. The main question was, How did the Helsinki arts education project affect the children's learning skills and attitudes? The target groups were children aged three to nine years who participated in the arts project in day care centers and schools. A multidimensional evaluation method was used for the analyses. The research data consisted of interviews of the program artists and educators (n = 23), follow-up reports (n = 9), and other materials. The results show that the program motivated children and aroused their interest in thinking, problem-solving, practicing, and learning. It offered children opportunities to experience success, which increased their self-confidence and skills. The project also strengthened their abilities in listening, goal-oriented work, evaluating others’ work, and receiving feedback, which are all abilities required for school entrance. The subject matter of their school courses was also integrated into their achievements. 相似文献

菌物与人类生活息息相关,菌物学是生命科学的重要组成部分,与动物学、植物学一样,菌物学应当是高等教育通识课程的重要部分。但目前我国高校的通识教育往往忽略这一重要的生物类群,大部分高校未开设菌物学相关的通识课程。长期以来,公众和政府管理人员大都缺乏对菌物的基本科学认知,菌物在我国国民经济建设中的应用潜力未能充分发掘,在生物多样性和环境保护中的重要性也时常被忽视。本文以扬州大学菌物学通识课程建设为案例,同时参考浙江大学、吉林农业大学等高校的实践经验,从教学内容、教学方法、教学效果等方面进行深入分析,总结经验与不足,提出思考和建议,与同行讨论分享,以促进菌物学通识课程在我国高校通识教育体系中的普及和推广。 相似文献

Profound differences exist between the ways in which arts educators and artists personally value the arts and the rationales offered via arts advocacy campaigns for public arts support. The author argues that those discrepancies carry grave consequences for K-university arts education. The author describes means by which to better reconcile valuing the arts for their intrinsic qualities with intense political pressure to justify arts education in terms of its alleged ability to improve students' math and reading skills and to address concerns of social justice and economic development. The “Patient Diversity” assignment is an integral component for all medical and
other health care professional students rotating through the Surgery clerkship
at the Yale School of Medicine. Students are instructed to interview a surgical
patient who is of a varied social or cultural background to identify how
psychosocial factors impact patient coping strategies. In the process, students
often appreciate how health care providers’ own social and cultural backgrounds
similarly shape their sentiments and reactions in patient care. In this
interview with a 26-year-old surgical patient, one student strives to come to
terms with her personal insecurities in patient interactions and seeks to
overcome them through open conversation and honest introspection. By working to
acknowledge and understand patient diversity, health care providers can enhance
understanding of their patients’ conditions and form more trustful and empathic

The author investigates the condition of a public school's arts education program under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act and obtains teachers' perspectives on their experiences under the federal policy. The author used qualitative and quantitative approaches to conduct a case study of an Ohio public school district. The data collected revealed changes in the arts education curriculum, particularly in music. Teacher interviews provided the context in which the changes occurred and a more accurate representation of the decrease in arts learning opportunities and the challenges that exist for arts education funding under NCLB. The information illustrated how administrative decisions made to improve test scores and accommodate policies mandated by NCLB threatened arts education. 相似文献

Ex-captive orangutans that have returned to free forest life in Bornean forests offer exceptional opportunities to assess the cognitive challenges facing feral great apes. They also provide opportunities to track readaptation, which requires building expertise to survive in tropical rain forests and to integrate into orangutan communities. I outline some of the foraging problems that ex-captive orangutans encounter, the cognitive processes used in their solutions, and acquisition patterns. Evidence derives primarily from observational studies of feeding behavior in free-ranging ex-captives. Discussion focuses on implications for conservation initiatives. 相似文献

This study was conducted with a purpose to examine whether the T102C polymorphism of the serotonin receptor 2A (HTR2A) gene moderates the association between parental education and children's school achievement across nine compulsory school years. The study was carried out in a population‐based sample of Finnish students (aged 9, 12 and 15 years, n = 982). It was found that the HTR2A gene was not related to the school achievement at any school level, but moderated the association between maternal education and the children's grade point averages. The T/T genotype carriers benefited most from high‐maternal education, and suffered from a low one more than the carriers of the other variants of the HTR2A gene. The present finding may at least partly answer the important question why academic outcomes of environmental interventions vary even at the same intelligence levels of the students. 相似文献

In September 2013, graduate students from the Yale Immunobiology Department hosted the second Yale Immunobiology Student Symposium. It was an eclectic and thought-provoking event that encouraged scientists to think outside the box both in their research and in their endeavors outside of the laboratory. The speakers ranged from a government representative to a New York Times science journalist and included four research scientists at the cutting-edge in their field. Speakers discussed their current research, from the role of our gut microbiota in causing colorectal cancers to the biochemical modifications in histone tails that give rise to our unique human biology. Conducting weather studies is exciting and relatively simple research for students to perform.
