Abstract:Rapidly growing Haemophilus influenzae strain Rd bacteria were infected with bacteriophage HP1 and DNA extracts prepared at various times thereafter. A number of phage genes scattered along the entire phage genome were quantitatively assayed by transformation. The kinetics of activity increases of these genes suggests that phage HP1 DNA replication begins at a fixed origin about one-quarter from the right end and that it proceeds to the left.
